thanks and again I use a laptop with my vga hookup to projector when I travel with it. Sure would like to know if there would be a solution to this or not while these offers on XPS 1530 can be taken advantage of. Thanks.

What is the best way to proceed at Dell site to get the most competative price on m1530. My intent would be to price a system with t8300 processor, 256 mb graphics, 9-cell battery, and LED screen and 250 GB 5400 HDD. The way I see the price now it is not coming out to be competative with the $1200 I can get an HP Dv5t at this point. If someone can advise, I would like to see if I can close the price gap and I might choose the Dell over the HP at this point. Thanks.

This is bleeding?......should i call and get it replaced?...

Thanks for the link. I will check this out. Has anyone ocnfigured their 1530 with a built in broadband card like Sprint, what I use. Do these work well and would you recommend it or stay with an ExpressCard version and thanks.

How do you tell if your replacement is a refurb? I haven't gotten it yet, but when I do, I want to be sure it's a newly manufactured laptop and not a refurb as they promised it would be a new one.

hey, to all M1530 + 8600GT owners.. lets make a poll to check the extend of the damage caused by the G84 ? People who've experience GPU failure please respond.. and preferably include the (estimate) date you've purchased ur laptop. Here's mine, laptop specs in my sig:.
Date of purchase : 23rd June
Date of arrival and first boot : 27th June
BIOS: A08
Normal Operation:
Idle GPU Temperature : 60-65c, depending on presence of air-conditioning.
GOW/COD4/Crysis average Temperature : 80-83c
Overclocked Operation: Only tried 3-4 times for COD4/Crysis. ; 650/1300/1000 ; rivatuner
COD4/Crysis average temperature : 83-85c (air cond.) ; 89-91c (non a/c)
Current Status : Still Working 100% fine, no video corruptions, hangs. graphic intensive games works fine so far.
I'm concerned should the GPU fail, it'll be a whole lot of trouble to go through the motherboard replacing process.. and I don't want it to fail right after my warranty ends by mid next year.. -
Hey guys,
What laptop cooling stand or laptop stand do you recommend for the m1530?
I will use while im on bed, lying on the sofa, on the table.....etc. -
-
Hey I have some back light bleeding. If I tried to get it fixed would I have to send my laptop in or does dell send people over?

Nice pics!!
I like the old notebook! haha xD
I hope it will come with the free accessories -
My notebook showed up at my house while I was on vacation, but someone was there to sign for it. I had some pretty decent backlight bleeding, but dell was happy to take care of it. Otherwise I'm pretty satisfied with the notebook. I imagine the backlight bleeding was due to it being in the same batch of notebooks as bens. Either way, for those of you watching at home, I definitely reccomend the m1530 to anyone, despite all of what is said on here. The overall fit and finish is very good. It runs well even with all of the bloatware on it, and despite the bleed, my screen was very nice and crisp. I'm currently blowing away the harddrive to reinstall everything.
-
Does anyone know how long it takes dell to get these things from malaysia to the states...im tired of waiting
-
Did you check the status of your XPS by calling their phone-line? It provides more detail than the website and if it's in the boxing stage that means its moving from Malaysia to here. My boxing stage was about 2.5 days.

Just got my M1530
I been pacing back and forth since I been waiting for it because of all the problems people have been talking about, but I am really happy with it. Here's my mini-review of certain things that stand out (good and bad).
First, the screen. I got a 1440x900 (not LED) SEC3157 Samsung. When I first found this out, I was really disappointed. However, after extensive testing, I am happy with it. There is little to no graininess and no backlight bleeding. There's probably no graininess at all as a matter of fact, but that word has been in my head for quite a while so I'm probably just paranoid... If I had never read about it on these message boards, I probably wouldn''t have noticed a thing.
The next thing is the keyboard. When I got mine, I got a little lump towards the upper center of the keyboard. I hadn't read about this before I got my laptop, but I did research and found out other people were experiencing this (so this problem wasn't discovered through paranoia!) I read the service manual, took apart the laptop, and moved around some wires under the keyboard and it fixed it for the most part. It feels like the keyboard is a little permanently bent though, but It's not a big deal.
Next thing... The touchpad. I'm not getting those weird unresponsiveness whenever I close the lid on my screen and reopen it, but I am not too crazy about the responsiveness of the touchpad overall. My previous laptop (xps m1210) was much better in terms of touchpad, but I'll get used to it.
There was a big cosmetic issue with this laptop. The piece of plastic directly under the screen (the one with the Dell logo) is a bit loose. It looks like it's supposed to be held down with double sided tape, so I might fuss around and fix it myself when I get the time, but it's not on the top of my priority list.
Just posting my experiences. I am really happy with this laptop. -
I just got my new m1530 without earphones, leather CD case or the screen cleaning cloth. I called CS and they said that "promotion" is over, but they were willing to give me a $75 coupon. Did I get ripped off?
-
Would you really pay $75 normally for some mediocre earphones, a cd case, and a dollar piece of cloth?
-
Dude, you just got a $75 coupon, for heaven sake just because they could not give u a tiny piece of cloth n CD case and some earphones.. when on earth would u have got these 3 for $75??
-
Thanks. I was just making sure. The CSR did say something along the lines of "trust me, those three items are much less than $75." I asked him if he was sure several times. He probably thought I was as much of an idiot as you guys must think I am.
-
sorry for bugging in, but i want to find out about any dell laptop that can compete even roughly with the new gateway 7811 in terms of graphics? thanx
-
My XPS has just arrived!!
I got it for £689 with the following spec: T8100, 3Gb RAM, 256Mb 8600M GT, 320Gb and 1440x900 screen.
I'm really glad i opted for the screen upgrade as it help loads with the photo editing i'm doing. I think the upgrade up would have been too much and text on the screen too small.
I chose the 9-cell battery and i actually like the fact that it raises the back of the laptop. It allows for more comfortable typing and helps keep things cool...also it'll give me longer bat life!
Hopefully i'll still be this happy in 6 months/1 years time!! -
I've finaly joined this "elite" club of XPS M1530 owners, and I just LOVE this laptop! Yesterday made an image of the entire HDD, and today I will downgrade to XP.
-
BTW, did you see my review and paint job on the XPS in my sig? -
XPS M1530 is a really nice machine
Maintain it well, keep it clean and take care of it well in general, and I am sure it would last the run with you.. at least for a good couple of years
Good luck n have fun.

I have an M1530. Firstly I need to thank the members of this site for providing the XP drivers that Dell still have not posted up (last time I checked anyway). I cannot start to thank those members enough, as it saved me many hours of grief when I did just not have the time to spend to sort it out.
I do have a little question though. When I use my laptop the fan sometimes needs to kick in. Whenever it does it increases to full speed for a second and then slowly slows down to a nice quiet speed. It will do this several times during an hour, and is a little annoying. The other day though, it gradually increased the fan speed to what was needed, making the noise levels much less intrusive.
Has anyone else noticed this, and is there a way to make the fan always gradually speed up, rather than suddenly sky rocket and then slow down. -
It's the only way to keep the cpu and especially the gpu cooler as they tend to run quite hot. -
I know the fans have to spin up, its just the way they do that I was wanting to change. Its so much nicer when they spin up slowly to the speed they actually need. Rather than go full blast and then instantly slow down. -
Are all of the laptops off of dell's site where you customize them new laptops as opposed to a refurb?
-
So, after reading through countless pages and switching choices between the Macbook Pro, Sony Vaio FW, Sony Vaio Z, and the Dell XPS M1530, I still don't know what I'm going to do.
In my "what laptop to get" thread, people recommended various laptops including the XPS M1530 but there seems to be too many quality issues. I'm especially concerned with the display (grainy, light-bleed).
Gaming will be intensive and the 8600M GT will probably give out but I'm planning to get 4 years of warranty on it anyways.

I want to minimize the likelihood of getting a bad screen, so would upgrading to the 1920x1200 screen help? -
The price you have quoted is WAY high for what you are ordering. Look around for the EPP deals and you can get a much better price. I haven't seen anyone with a grainy 1920x1200 but then all in all I haven't heard that many complaints about grainy screens recently compared to before.
-
And I know it's kind of expensive ($1,499 with the standard warranty) but this was only a quick configuration if what I wanted. I am not ordering anything because to be honest, I'm still torn between the Vaio FW and the M1530. Plus, my dad has to talk with his boss to see if he can get any discount on the laptop since the company uses Dell computers and laptops.
By the way, what is this EPP deals?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT: I tried using the Dell codes found on the NBR site but unfortunately:
1. They don't work in Canada.
2. The laptops are already "discounted" and on sale and if you add the coupon code, it will REPLACE the sale discount, not add on top of it. In the case of the M1330, it's not even worth entering the code since the sales discount is higher than the coupon discount.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT2: Never mind, I found this:
http://www.notebookreview.com/dellCoupon.asp
which explains everything about the Dell coupons but I still haven't found a better deal on the M1530. :S -
Just placed an order for an M1530, after dell told me the M1330 order was canceled. I think I'll be much happier with a faster graphics card and processor for the same price as the M1330 I configured.
T8100, 8600m GT, 250gb HDD, 2gb RAM. $1080 including tax and shipping. -
I am now an OFFICIAL XPS M1530 OWNER!!! WOOT!!! Just got it yesterday, it wasn't going to actually ship out from my local FedEx until Monday, so I headed on over to the FedEx store and picked it up on Friday. I am very happy. I love the style, it stays cool during gaming (i was surprised after all of the overheating threads). All for under $1000 too ... yay
Now I just need to add Vista Ultimate 64-bit (for $30 at my college tech department
) and I'm all set.
-
Awesome! I'm new here, waiting for a system much like yours to be shipped.

I purchased a dell xps very early in the morning on mon 11th, and it progressed through first for stages to delivery at what seemed like a normal time. when it entered the delivery stage on fri morning, the website stated that i would recieve a call within 24 hours from the couriers (Walsh Western international?) and a link to their tracking page would appear within 24 hours. however, i have not yet recived any call and no link has appeared on my order status page. i am going on holiday on the evening of wed 20th, does anybody think it will arrive then and should i be worried?
