Starting to fry?!?!!! I am sure they aren't made with egg white'!!!!!

Anyway, please search around.. there are quiet a few huge discussion threads regarding this in Dell, Dell XPS forums...

    Good luck.

PS., And I have had this system for arnd 4 months now, and have no problem neither am I seeing anything that seems to be like a problem. Also I have known people who got their laptop way back in Jan or late last year, and they are happy too, without seeing any issues as such. I would go ahead and get these systems, and also get at least 2 to 3 years complete NBD warranty on them (and you would be able to add another 12 months with Dell' offer to extend the warranty')_

I had no problem with my GPU for 4 months and now the GPU temps have started to spike, my system has also shut down while gaming AND I'm using a laptop cooler.

I noticed that certain drivers are very bad for the temps, I'm on 177.83 now and the system has stabilized somewhat. I can play COD4 for an hour, but not GRID. I wrote a letter to Dell - still waiting on a response.

Question: I'll be getting my 1530 later today, can I just plug it in and start to use it, or do I have to plug it in, have it charge up, and then use it?

Had my 1530 for about a week now...very impressed with it's performance so far! The only gripe I really have about it, is the touch sensitive control bar. It likes to rub against the screen when closed I'm presuming and that whole shiny black area of the computer just gets completed scuffed up. I'm one of those people that likes to keep their electronics in pristine condition, and seeing these little scuff marks/scratches just bugs the crap out of me! However, they're so minute that my OCDness should just overlook them, but I fear for how they will look later. I also am waiting on my invisibleshield which I ordered from zagg.com that is supposedly prefit for an M1530. Can't wait because I will be carrying this laptop around in a backpack to school/work every single day of my life. Otherwise, I'm happy with my purchase.

To poser above, I plugged mine in and used it the minute it came in! The battery was already fully charged...

Usually the battery comes charged... you can start using it out of the box.. in any case, you can plug it in too while starting and setting up your system :) Good luck and have fun. Its a lovely system :)

I think i have a problem with my charger. If I have the charger plugged in and then turn on the system, during the loading process, a black screen with white font comes up and says that the comp does not recognize the charger and that the battery may not charge. It tells me to get a dell 65watt or more charger (which is what i have), it then gives me the option to continue, to never show the message again, or something else. I always just press F1 to skip the error and the charger seems to charge my battery perfectly. What should I do?

btw, I'm from Canada, what number should I call to complain about not getting the accessories(earbuds, cloth)?

Hey guy i have a question that doesn't really need me to start a thread about.

I feel like the hard drive is always on. Is that the fan or the HD? What is to the left of the touch pad, where my wrist lays upon, while i type this?

I'm pretty sure it's the hard drive. It gets hotter on the left due to that.

Did you try going to device manager, then hardware, then batteries then ac adapter and updating the driver? Sorry don't know the xps # for canada. You can try to call the regular canada # and then ask them to give it to you.

I had the same charger issue, but it only happens sometimes, not every time. And F1 seems to solve the problem, but I'm not sure what's causes it.
I am also in Canada, not sure what's going on with that. Anyone else had this issue?

Just received my M1530 with the LED screen, and generally I'm happy with it, except there is backlight bleed on the bottom to the point that there are two streaks on the screen that cause a color shift on the screen where those streaks are. Anyone else experience this? Should I return it for a new one?

    Thanks.

Yeah.. you might want to ask for an exchange. Although people have been saying you'd get a refurbished screen instead.

So they would send me a refurbished laptop? Even though I'm still within the 21 day return period?

Will they send me a laptop without returning the first one, so I can compare the two?

    Thanks!

This pushed my estimated ship date back to 9/18/2008. Then today I found the coupon section of this site with a code for 30% off, so I called back and low and behold I had to cancel and re-order again to get the 30%. When I rebuilt it online and added the 30% off, it would not combine with dell's discounts and was showing me all together a price $266 lower than what I had. The rep however was giving me a price a little over $1300. So I decided to upgrade my Warranty to 4 years and step up the CPU one more notch. Well He added it back up and now I was a little over $1500 but then he said wait and that he was seeing another promotion that brought it back down to just over $1300. He asked if I wanted to change anything else so I said sure upgrade the battery and all in all this is what my new order looks like

So I'm feeling pretty good about the upgrades but was wondering to my self how this happened. I added so much but am still spending $400 less and the best part is my shipping date moved up from 9/18/2008 to 9/11/2008! The only thing I can think of is that the rep took the 30% off on top of the dell discounts as to where when I rebuilt it online they took away the dell discounts and only took off the 30%.

    Ahhhhh!!!! Im angry!!!
I received a call from dell, they told me my new ESD, It's 09/10/2008. They told me can be before, too. They are waiting some components.
My past ESD was today and the delivery day was 08/29 =(.

I dont know if worth it to wait that long (I placed my order 07/31).
Should I keeping going or cancel the order and buy another dell laptop???

I am on my new notebook now! At the moment, I'm trying to optimize things and get rid of bloatware. If I'm up to it, I'll try out Medieval II after I get everything all set up...

*edit: Just checked my display settings and I am happy to report that I HAVE AN LG SCREEN!!! It looks great, and this is coming from someone who's spent a lot of time around macbook pros. I might go so far as to say that this one is better. I was a little iffy about the processor after I saw a lot of people getting the t8300, but I must say there is no way I'm sending this lappy back. If I feel the need for more power, I'll upgrade it myself in a couple years when my warranty expires and I can get a t9500 for cheap. I also have to say that this is a really nice looking machine, and after the initial setup, everything I've done has been running very smoothly and snappily. I've still yet to try games, as today was a pretty exhausting day for me... but I still might try it tonight...

*edit 2: I just want to say that the workmanship of this machine is excellent, no manufacturing defects whatsoever, as far as I can tell. I would go so far as to say that this is the nicest laptop keyboard I have ever used. It also runs quite cool, even on performance mode, contrary to what some have said. I have had it on for hours now and it remains cool enough to put on my lap without any discomfort.

Shipping seems to be very fast, dell ship tracking has gone fast through the 5 stages and has displayed the senders website in a few days. I guess iv been lucky.

That is a ridiculous deal. They definitely screwed up somewhere. Since I ordered mine almost a month ago I have never seen a better deal posted here than the deal I got in my sig even counting refurb deals but yours puts mine to shame by probably over $600.

    Hello all,

Recently over at the M1730's owner's lounge we decided to start up a wiki for all things XPS, given the huge amount of information contained within these threads, so as to make it more accessible for newbies to XPS systems wanting to quickly bring their system up to spec with some excellent optimizations and for the power user who just wants to refresh his/her knowledge or re-tune the system after a reinstall. Currently there are numerous topics. We're hoping that the articles will be of great help to everyone here, and that maybe some of the local posters could write up some articles specific to the M1530.

Here are some of the articles we currently have:

Hope its all a help to you and that you can add your own experience!

Yeah when he gave me the price I was literally jumping up and down and could barely breathe. He asked if something was wrong and I said "nope, I'm not sure what happened but I upgraded alot of things and am still paying over $400 less than before!!! and my shipping date moved up a week!!! so all I can say is thanks!!" and he just laughed. He sent me a quick email for me to check, since this just seemed to good to be true, and I compared it to my old order to make sure we weren't leaving anything out. Once everything checked out I said ok and that was that.

So I'm pretty excited to get this laptop :D I then threw it in my girlfriends face who teased me about spending to much. Last year she spent just over $1600 on an inspiron and I told her that was to much. So she was bustin my chops and I got to say Ha look what I got and it was still cheaper than yours!! :p

hey guys question. I have had my 1530 since around mid march and i use it as my main computer and it gets used about 6 hours a day between personal and work use.

My question is next to the mouse pad where my wrist lay i can see if the light hits it right u can see its wearing either the paint or a clear coat whichgever a bit. Is there a way to protect that area so it doesnt fade where its noticeable at all times? Or is that just something that happens with laptops.

    Dont worry :) :)

I never used Vista before I got this laptop, as well..... but following Les' guide to begin with not only tweaked by Vista, but also made me learn many things :) about how things work in Vista and such...

And IMHO, Vista is a more well organized and well laid out OS... I found quiet easy to learn and walk around and start doing things on my own.. :) Good luck.

Placed my order on Thursday, looks like I won't be enjoying the notebook until 8/10 though. I'm nervous about backlight bleeding and a loud HDD, but I guess we'll see what happens when it arrives. I upgraded to the T8300 & LED backlit screen from the $1099 model's defaults.

What program has everyone been using to make a backup image of the default HDD config? And I'm going to be installing OpenSUSE 11 with KDE4, anyone else have experience with it on the M1530?

Probably its just some dust / dirt below the key??? have you tried blowing with a can of compressed air or something? For me, I don't have any issues with any keys from the time I got this ~ 5 months back till now..

I see a lot of you opted for the higher resolution screens, like 1920x1200 and 1680x1050. How's gaming performance at those resolutions?

i was wondering this too and upon closer inspection of the product details I noticed it said "standard coverage" and below it gave a brief blurb about what standard coverage was.

    As per the website:
Standard coverage: Top, wrist rest, track pad and mouse button(s)*

it did stipulate that some models do not come with mouse button protection so I would deffinitely contact them to make sure if the m1530 skin set comes with what you are looking for.

does anyone here actually use this?

edit: found this thread, should've searched first I guess, lol
