    Hi all

I ve got a question re: 4GB RAM only showing as 3.5...ok ok before anyone feeaks out...yes I know the 32vista will never show 4GB...but it did! after my previous format and installaing my XPS was showing the full 4!! I formatted today and now its back to the 3.5....

can any one shed some light? on what would have made it show the full 4GB previously? maybe a driver I downloaded? ???

    thanks

more specifically, sp1, under the computer properties dialog, will report what the bios tells it: 4GB (2^32 bytes).

pre-SP1 did what the task manager did all along:

task manager, under the performance tab, will display exactly what's available to the OS within the 4GB memory range(2^32 bytes) after devices (such as your gpu have been mapped [2^32 bytes - N, where N is whatever memory-mapped I/O consumes]). this figure is what really matters to you.

Congratulations on your order! Welcome to the XPS family...where there are many abound! ;) :)

No, nothing to really know about...just look it over carefully once you receive it! And, check to make sure all is in *working order* for you ;) :)

And, if your going to be doing any reformatting, or cleaning up any bloatware, after you have checked it over ~ that would be a good time to do it! :)

Then, Viva LA ENJOY! ;) :)

    Cin ;) :)

    Thats a nice system...

As for anything to know about, there are quiet a few things you might wanna know or be prepared to do once get it.

First off, as others said, check everything completely.. make sure all parts n components are fine, start it up, make sure everything is working n starting up well..

YOu might want to check the temperatures, idle, min n max... you could search around for some nice tools to do these.. or just drop in later once u receive the system :)

Also, see if u can get everything you need to work... if not, its better u fix it right away and set up ur system all stable n fine..

In general, the M1530 is a top class system.. So shouldn't have anything major to worry about.. other than the system manufacturing quality n functioning.. also make sure the battery is charging up well n stuff and you don't have any issues with that..

    Have fun

I will make sure to check everything and I will post back if I have any problems. I love this site. It has been helpful since the beginning, when my brother had to order a laptop. We ended up getting an Inspiron 1520. Anyway....I forgot to include the price:

    Help Needed Guys..

After reading the threads to install Vista Ultimate 64 bit, i convinsed myself to install it on my XPS 1530. I got the OEM Dell Vista Ultimate 64x DVD, but it gives always gives me a error while installation on "install.wim" file.

Currently i am having a Win XP Professional 32 bit..

After reading the threads i noticed that something to do with RAID/AHCI drivers or may be it requires to be slipstream... not sure.

I have already updated my BIOS to A09 version.

    My Laptop is XPS 1530, T7700, 4GBRAM, 320GB HDD

    Any suggestion or ideas????

I got my laptop yesterday after only a week of wait. :p I love it very much so far. i think the sound is pretty good as I was expecting pretty bad from what I hear in the forums. Also, I do have a little keyboard bulge that is noticeable around the F7-F9 keys but I am not sure what I want to do with that. Apart from that (and also that I did not get the XPS accessories), I am pretty happy at the moment. Thanks to all that helped me out!! And yes, this includes you Cin! :D

    Congrats.

That small "bulge" is present in many systems, as seen from user posts... though I don't see it in mine... but if u r really annoyed with that, you might want to see under the keyboard for some sticking out screw' or something... there was another thread recently on this, you might want to look there to see for any possible tips / suggestions.

And XPS accessories are rare now.. Atleast, AFAIK.

Have fun with ur system.. Cheers.

well gang... I have a replacement coming... soon I hope.

I have just noticed that the barrel hinge is bent... not just the gap to fascilitate opening but its bowed out. also the space bar is iffy... but the kicker: the bluray drive ate my disk!!!

such a long wait and all these problems on day one :(

oh well... at least i have it to use til the replacement arrives. (whenever that may be)

    Hey there, EB ~
Sorry to hear that your new 1530 didn't work out for you, and that you had these problems (esp. with what happened with the bluray drive)

It's too bad that you had to wait a bit for it's arrival and now this :(

Well, at least you are getting a replacement ~ and it will be a *new* 1530! I also hope that this one is in the condition that you would expect your new 1530 to be! ;) :)

I like how you are remaining fairly positive about what has happened! ;) :)

Oh, for some reason...the *replacements* sometimes tend to ship quicker than actual new orders! ;) :)

*fingers crossed* for your new replacement working out for you!

    Cin ;) :)

I am not sure about this, though I remember vaguely, reading about a member here managing to keep the hd, after talking with dell support.. May be some other expert can shed more light on this... Here in Italy, dell said its not possible to keep the hd.. system has to be returned as it is.

I think maybe you can? Not sure though (so I can't say yes at 100%)! Alas, I found some threads relating to that! I don't know if you need the go ahead from Dell though! So, I would be sure that all is in order before/if you choose to do so. ;)

Well, you know look at it this way...it may seem like a bit off..but you will have it before you know it!!! And, there are lots of things to do to keep your mind busy while you wait! :D Like YouTube unboxing vid's LOL, looking at any potential accessories you may want to add, reviewing things on the forum, etc.. ;) :)

And, *sigh* I do remember the waiting was the hardest part!!

But, Dell usually over-estimates the ESD!!! So, there is a chance that it may be shipped sooner! ;) :)

Also, The CSR that called to update me about my 64-bit Vista disks was able to put in an order for the XPS Accessories that I wasn't sent.

I got an order number for accesories, laptop and vista 64-bit disks.

I'm sure the ear buds will be the creative EP-630 kind as those were mentioned by name, however I'm not sure if the rest will actually be the XPS branded ones.

I'll post and let ya'll know once I get it.

    also: @cin

thanks for the links regarding keeping my HDD, I asked Dell and they said that I could n fact keep my hard drive as long as the one sent back with my old system is the correct capacity and RPM.

Just got mine the day before yesterday!!! Very nice laptop, I must say I am impressed so far. Only ran into a few issues.

    1. The blu-ray drive wouldn't play newer discs. Dell's sending out a disc for PowerDVD 8(downloaded the trial and works perfect) - Problem solved

    2. When restarted the laptop would tell me the ac cord was the wrong wattage and the comp wouldn't give me proper indication of battery. Called Dell, followed instructions - Problem solved

I went to pick up a laptop I had being fixed under warranty by the Geek Squad and the problem with that laptop was having both Norton and Spysweeper so they uninstalled the spysweeper since Norton was doing that too already. I had Spysweeper on this new laptop with McAfee(also has anti spyware) sine it was Dell recommended but the Geek Squad guy said I should not have both since they conflict with each other? Is this true? So I uninstalled Spysweeper.

So other than some Vista issues which the Dell rep says is normal and warned me of a few more I may encounter, everything is pretty good. He said Vista is still new and needs bugs worked out.

My new M1530 (with 9 cell battery) received a few days ago does this as well with message displayed (I believe) that a charger of a least 65 watts output is required. May I ask what "instructions" Dell support provided to correct? TIA!

    Look here....

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=3768852&postcount=40

And the thread in full > http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=280591

See if that helps (though I don't know the Dell tech gave a similar solution for the previous poster too!).. but for me, I never had the problem since then...

some people say dw306 from service tag can see it is v2, but some people say it has been discontinued. i google dw306 cannot find many but xk309 got a lot. ebay.com and other dell parts shop cannot even find the dw306... then from this point, it seems xk309 is better? or dw306 is indeed newer but discontinued? thanks

Thanks much for the information and your insight. I will say that I have not messed with BIOS on my new M1530 at this point and that I got the same message by using older and smaller AC adapter furnished with my 700m laptop. So this evening, I pulled the 9 cell battery and held the power button while in shutdown mode as an initial step. So far so good but too soon to know for sure. The build quality on this unit is great and I don't want anybody to mess with it if at all possible...

Guess I should post here now too since I got a 1530 recently. It's been working great for me, so thanks to all those threads that convinced me to buy one. :)
