    Hope that helps.

And FWIW, all these information are available in various, sticky threads, as well as long popular threads in NBR. Its not that there is no information for new users. You just have to look around, in the appropriate forums. Cheers and good luck.

Look in the device manager. You can find the info there.

Also, you could get the info. from Start > Run > msinfo32

Look for disks, and on the right panel, you can see the "model" entry.

    Cheers.

So if none is answareing I supose its OK to opet your laptop once a month to clean the vents and every 6 months to clean thermal paste. Is this process any harder than one on the M1330? I suppose it should be the same :)

ok the model states that its a WDC disk
And two things that i note in my M1530 are:
1>I can hear scratching noises from my HDD area
2>My GPU goes from 43 C to 69C,the fan comes on and the temps go down to 55C and then up again to 69C.

Are the above two things normal?
Apart from these two things every thing else is great about mt lappy :D

Edit 1:temps are when idling and/or medium browsing

Rohangarg, did you upgrade bios to a09? It's supposed to help with temps.

Hello everyone. I've been hanging around these forums for awhile and you all actually, inadvertently, helped me choose to buy my dell xps 1530. Thanks! I just had a couple of questions. I've been reading about the grainy screen issue and I don't think I have a problem, but my screen isn't the LG. According to device manager I have the "CMO 1555." Has anyone had issues with this screen?

My second problem also has to do with the screen. This is one of those really strange problems that don't have easy explanations, I think, so I understand in advance if no one knows what the hell I'm talking about. Anyway, so the other day I was fooling around in the NVIDIA control panel program (I have the 8600 btw). I have a second larger monitor (also a dell) attached and have my desktop extended onto it (so two screens, one laptop screen, one connected lcd). I noticed that, on this larger screen, I had the option to increase my refresh rate to 75 Hz. This is a relatively normal setting (and better than the 60 Hz it was set to), I thought, so I changed it, and immediately the screen on my laptop (which is NOT the screen I was messing around with in the program) goes dark. I don't mean like "black." It was almost like the LEDs turned off (yes, I have the LED screen, 1440x900 I think). I don't even know if that is possible (the LEDs turning off). But anyway the screen is really really dark, no longer bright and beautiful, so on and so forth. So I immediately turn the refresh back to 60 (which changes nothing, screen still dark) and update my video card drivers from the dell website, which FIXES the problem, however whenever I restart my computer, my screen is bright as the desktop loads, all my processes start, and right at the very end of booting, right when pretty much everything is loaded, it turns dark again and I have to re-install the video driver to fix the problem (I re-install it and say "restart later" and then just don't re-start). Does anyone have any sort of idea as to what might be happening?

Also, anyway to persuade dell to give me a harddrive that doesn't do the clicking thing? I have the most expensive warranty for the item and I am still in my first 21 days. Maybe if I just say it is severely abnormal and annoying (which is somewhat of an exaggeration).

Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance.

Hi. I've been reading quite a few threads at NBR and finally decided to join in. Got my M1530 for about 5 months ago for about £630. Basically the same specs as when I first got it. Hopefully it'll keep up to my gaming needs until some point in the future.

@mosquito0016: Not sure about your screen problem, but should be possible to persuade Dell about the non-clicking hard drive. Might as well tell them about the screen problem too.

Hey guys. I actually fixed both the clicking problem AND the screen dimming problem using this thread:

    hxxp://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=168425

These forums are incredibly helpful if you just look around.

However, using that same program recommended in the above thread, it has now been revealed to me that my CPU is running at around 108 degrees Fahrenheit... Is that a normal temp? I just have word docs and Mozilla open.

Ok so again, just looked around and it seems like that is totally normal.. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I have a question for all you guys...

how are your monitor settigns set and in which program do you control them.

I'm using nvidia control panel and its not bad. I noticed that colors on my laptop lack in contrast or how should I say it... lack color compared to my dell 2007wfp. I gained stronger colors trought nvidia control panel by increasing digital vibrance. I raised it to 50% and than I realised that RED is ****ty than. So I lowered to 25% but now it doesnt wanna to remeber these settings. On my startup it always loads 50%. any ideas?

(by default digital vibrance was set to 0%)

    Hey everyone!
Just ordered my m1530 earlier this week and I'm anxiously awaiting its arrival.
I ordered it with the black casing, Core 2 Duo T5800 2.0GHz 800Mhz 2M L2 Cache, 3GB, DDR2 667MHz 2 Dimm, WXGA TrueLife LCD with 2.0 MP Camera, 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M G, 250GB 5400RPM SATA, Vista SP1 Home Premium Edition, 8X DVD+/-RW Slot Load Drive, Dell Wireless 1395 802.11g Mini Card, 6-cell Battery, 1 Year Warranty, and Finger Print Reader.

I got all that for $759.21 through the military's dell premiere store. It was a Veteran's day only deal. I see most of you have the 8600m GT. I thought about upgrading from the 8400 to the 8600 but honestly I don't plan on gaming with my XPS much at all. My fiance might occasionally play WOW or I might try out Spore, but the 8400 should more than adequate for my needs, which are working on papers for grad school, using outlook, surfing the web, watching downloaded movies, and syncing my zune. I was originally looking at the Inspiron 15 so the XPS is a lot better. My current lappy is a low budget inspiron B130, so this is a big upgrade for me. Anyhow I'll see you around on the board.

ESD is 11/21/08...hopefully it will get out sooner than that...we'll see. I think I've watched almost every unboxing video on the net already. I've been thinking about upgrading the hard drive to a 7200 rpm one later. Can anyone comment on the speed differences between 5400 and 7200 rpm on opening word documents; photoshop; unRARing files, etc.

I've also been wandering about Vista x64. I'm considering upgrading to it, but will it really be faster? With only 3GB of RAM I know it won't be any better for that, but will apps run better? Is the driver support ok? I think I am mostly looking forward to Windows 7 next year.

I checked "Adobe Photoshop + Premiere Elements"...what is Adobe Photoshop elements like? is it sufficient for photo editing or should I install CS4? What's premiere elements like compared to windows movie maker?

Can anyone discuss the benefits of upgrading from home premium to ultimate?

Hi, I am confusing on whether to buy a M1530 or not because of a lot of complains about over heated GPU ( which happened to my hp dv2500 1 month after warranty T__T and still have not fixed yet).
Btw, i saw a cheaper deal for M1530 in laptop for small bussiness ( i am in UK now) with Vodafone logo. I wonder if there is any trick there ? ( I tried to order this but Dell refused )

Anyone could help? Thanks in advance ^.^

The business ones usually appear cheaper, though in most cases its merely because the vat and tax hasn't been added to the total, plus you also have to set up a business account, or buy through a business.

The complaints regarding the gpu are a lot more to do with the 8 series graphics cards (i.e the one in the 1530)
being fatally flawed, and dell not officically releasing anything about the issue or whether its been resolved for newer laptops. Personally, unless it is a very good deal, I would not consider buying it.

My two year old e1505's harddrive just failed and I decided to go ahead and just spring for a new computer and found the lovely xps on sale. purchased it this last thursday 11/13 and esd is 11/21 (I'm really anxious to get my hands on this thing).

    XPS M1530, Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 (2.4GHz/800MHzFSB, 3M L2 Cache)
    Tuxedo Black Casing XPS M1530
    4GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 Dimm, for XPS M1530
15.4 inch Wide Screen WXGA+ TrueLife LED LCD with Camera for XPS M1530
    256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
320GB 7200RPM Hard Drive with Free Fall Sensor, Seagate Casey,M1530
    8X DVD+/-RW Slot Load Drive for XPSM1530
    Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy
    Dell Wireless 1505 Wireless-N Mini-card
56 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion P Primary Battery

total came out to $1310 +$65 tax (how does that deal compare to others?)

Only two things I am second guessing now - the wireless dell card and the sound blaster audigy. I heard the dell card is not that good and I am thinking I should have gotten the intel one. In my e1505 I have a intel card - would it be easy to switch these out? And I also heard the the sound quality wasnt as good with the soundblaster but I am hoping its ok through high quality headphones.

either way, those things are minor. looking forward to finally getting this beast and playing some games other than civ4 and cs source.

Yea they don't seem to include the accessories anymore, I didn't get them either and when I asked they said I had to buy them. On the AC adapter issue it is very commone and updating your BIOS to the new version A11 should take care of it.

Doing so what? You mean updating your BIOS voiding your warranty? Absolutely not, and in fact, I think you should already be having the most recent BIOS for the _M1530, considering you got your system last tuesday.

If else, you can check your BIOS version during boot up or just type in msinfo32 from Start > run and you could see the BIOS version there.

If its not , then download the BIOS from the _Dell drivers n downloads section, enter your service tag or select the model, look under BIOS and download it.

To make it easier, here is the A11 BIOS direct download from _Dell

just recieved my xps m1530 from fedex. it is beautiful! didn't come with any accessories, though...just the media remote. kinda bummed, because I wanted the ear buds and case and whatnot, but I am very happy with my xps. I started it up (came with vista x86 home premium). Then I rebooted it and am not installing Vista Ultimate x64. yay

Hi guys, got a quick question.
Is there a web site / guide / whatever that centralizes information about the physical structure of the XPS M1530 ? I think I have a small problem with my fan's connections and would like to look at it physically...

That's simmilar to my first M1530 the 2.5ghz under volts really well you must do it mine cooled down like 10C or somthing like that it was a descent amount. have fun also i hope you overclock its also worth it ;) :p ;) have fun

    questions:
64 is better and will be slightly better because you use all your ram Ext.
    ied just get A12 bios
as for drivers i run 174.93 from laptopvideotogo

Yesterday I ordered one very very similar to yours! Only differences: Vista 32, Intel Wireless and Red color!

On dell it says the laptop is on stage 4 (preparing to send). Looks like I will have it sooner than expected!

Does anybody who has a 1530 had any trouble with the
silver component around the touchpad and where your hands lay?
I have almost like a little crack in it about 1 inch long on the side,
hard can see it but you can and feel it.

Wasn't sure if I should call them and try to get it changed out..
or discount. Or if it might get bigger

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

    it's getting kind of soft
there ain't any cracks on it
it might be due to the pressure of my palm or the high temp below I dont know

The main reason I got Vista 64 was to take advantage of the 4gigs of ram. Im mostly gonna be using it for some music production and gaming.....and of course college :D Looks like you might be getting it before me...let me know how your order goes.

Wow soft.. if it gets that way I'm wondering if it will like crack more..
Also I wonder if it is an easy part to replace.
Does yours really get high temp? hmm

I'm going to GTA 4 PC. Do you think that our XPS is going to cope with it at the minimum/medium and native resolution (1280x800) ? I have 8600 GT and T8300, 3GB of RAM

I suspect GTA to be fairly taxing on the system, but it should be playable on minimum/medium settings.

I might stay away from GTA, I've had it with developers trying to push DRM on me.

I've had my m1530 for a couple weeks now, and I have no significant complaints. About the only thing that bugs me is that it is just so pretty and prone to fingerprints. Also I have had some random BSOD happening. It has probably happened 4 times in 2 weeks. Most of those were playing Spore. I am pretty sure it has to do with the video card. But doing normal things like word processing, surfing, email, photoshop it never chokes. I think it could also have to do with the 3GB of ram. It worries me that all my ram isn't running in dual channel mode. So, I think I will be buying a 2GB stick to make an even 4GB soon.

Overall though it has been fantastic with x64 bit Vista. HD video looks very nice on the screen. I can't wait for Windows 7
