Guys I am having a serious problem with my LED equipped 1530. It's the CMO1555 one. I need to be able to adjust the individual colors and brightness settings. I opened the NVIDIA control panel and went to the place where you adjust brightness, color, gamma etc. Moving the sliders does absolutely nothing. There are no changes in brightness or anything else. In fact, opening the computer power options and reducing / increasing brightness there does nothing either. The only way that is working is the FN+up or down. I need more precise adjustments of color and brightness for the work I do. Is anyine else having this problem? This is a new piece from dell outlet.
I have tried swapping the nvidia drivers, and that does not help.
Secondly, the 320 gig seagate HD is not silent on default setting. Is anyone else facing this issue?
Lastly regarding the bios ram speed. I have ddr2 800 ram. The modules are right, but the BIOS says it's running at just 667? Is this a mobo restriction?

Thanks in advance for any assistance! Cheers :D

    hey everybody.

I've been pricing out the Dell XPS M1530 and I'm very interested in it, but just wondering...are there any problems with them? any minor/major cons?

example, the Studio 15 has issues with the multimedia touchpad/speakers/eject button

does the M1530 have similar issues??? I'd be thinking no, since this is a more 'properly built line' of systems.

    thank you

IMO you made the right choice on the M1530. While the M1330 is more compact unless you have smaller hands or you can adapt to a smaller keyboard the M1530 was the better choice. Its a fullsize keyboard so it is a natural progression from a normal keyboard to the M1530. The M1330 would leave you fumbling around on the keyboard at times.

I have to switch from a normal desktop to my laptop quite often, I have used other laptops smaller then the M1530 and i always make mistakes typing.

Just my 2 cents though. They are both great laptops.

Nice! It's a cute color, you will like it :D

    Hey there,

    Try this:
In Device Manager expand Monitors and double-click on Generic PnP Monitor. Click on the Details Tab and change the Property box to Hardware Ids.

Then it just requires a quick search once you find the ID. :D

I have finally finished reading every single page of this thread...
Now my question hasn't been asked on here.
Ive ordered my M1530, t9500, 8 gig ram...

The RAM listed in my order confirmation is 2x4GB 800mhz DDR2
I thought the m5130 motherboard ram bus was clocked at 667mhz.

    Has there:
    a) been a motherboard revision and they have increased the clock cycle?

    or

    B) sent me out 800mhz ram as they couldn't source any 4gb 667mhz ram, allowing for the fact that the ram will underclock itself to suit the bus its on?

a- Not that I know of.
b- I have the same issue. I spoke to dell and yes the mobo is limited. The ram will downclock to 667. Frankly speaking they are being cheap skates. The faster RAM is nothing but a gimmick and you literally get no value from it.

Aren't the T9500s spec'd for an 800 FSB? Or am I reading that incorrectly?

Yep but the memory bus is seperate to the FSB, so the cpu is @ 800 while the mem is @ 667 :(

Great little laptop, i've had mine for just on a year now. Love it...

    Originally has a T7500, 2Gb RAM, 320Gb 5400RPM Samsung.

Over the year it grew stronger and became a T9300, 8Gb RAM, 320Gb 7200RPM Seagate. Oh and a useless Intel Turbo Memory thingy (waste of $10)

Had an overheating GPU recently, seems that the heatsink wasn't making good contact with the GPU as one of the mounts had snapped right off the board (No 5). Board was replaced under warranty! thanks dell!

so, my fingerprint reader has stopped working for good I fear. I am dual booting windows 7 beta and os x 10.5.6. Somewhere along the way, the fingerprint reader stopped working all together.

Anyone had any experiences with Dell warranty and replacing/fixing the fingerprint reader. I am still under warranty until November of this year.

Also I saw a couple posts back Wesleyrpg mentioned that their dell grew "stronger" and had a better cpu. Did you install the new cpu yourself? what's the deal? I have t5800 core2duo 2.0Ghz with FSB of 800Mhz. Is my cpu upgradable to another core2duo with fsb of 800?

Yes the CPU is upgradeable to a T9300/9500 or even a X9000 (i wouldn't use a X9000 as the M1530 already has enough issues dissapating heat as it is). It's not hard to do at all, takes about 5 mins to do, just make sure you have some good thermal compound such as Artic Silver 5 to replace the old stuff.

The fingerprint reader is part of the palm rest so the ENTIRE laptop is going to have to be pulled apart! My bet is the connector has come off the mainboard!

Hey guys, I got this laptop today. I tried using Vista's partition tool but it says I don't have enough space. I did some reading and it seems like there is a restriction on the number of partitions you can do?

Can anyone help me with this? What should I do? I wanna be able to dual boot Windows7 for a bit, then delete it and give all the space back to Vista.

I had the same problem - I put W7 on 2 machines. I could only get 20 gig after spending hours on my 200gb drive. I researched, and researched when I couldn't get more than 4gb on a 3/4 empty 250gb drive on my home machine. I had to tweak a bunch of stuff - page files, etc. I then found JKDefrag - freeware (donations accepted) and it did a really good job of opening up the drive - I wound up with 50gb of space which was plenty. I have ditched my other defrag programs and am using JKdefrag now for everything.... hope that helps.

A question for the group. What is the difference between the two
    batteries for the 1530?
One says primary 9 cell and the other says the same thing only has
a pointed part to it? Any help would be appreciated.

Hey Jane..are you trying to distinguish between the 6 Cell and the 9 Cell.

6-cell is flush with the lappy, 9 cell is elevated..lifting the back a tad for ventilation, etc.

Do you have the link to what your looking at?

Ahh I see: This is my 6 cell:

    This, is my 9 cell:

Oh, no this isn't the same problem. I doubt it's a defrag problem since it is brand new. What I did was, I was able to get 35GB separate but when you right click on the space and try to make New Volume Label (i think that's what it is) you then have to assign a drive letter and format it, so that you can install anything on the partition, and when I try to do that stuff and say OK, it says not enough space, which is nonsense since....it's just a matter of formatting the space already there. I've seen people talk about it, but no actual fix. All I am getting is that the OEM vista isn't allowing any more partitions than there are already.

Yeah, there is a limited number of primary partitions you can have (5, I think?) so if you're trying add another, it won't work. I know you can upgrade Vista to Win7 so you could always try that; not sure about downgrading, though.

If you do manage to get a dual boot going, can you post back on whether or not Win7 deletes restore points from Vista or XP? This has been a problem in the past with dual-booting different Windows OSes.

I'm currently running Win7 on its own. No problems thus far!
