Dell is really starting to get to me. First I order the laptop on the first day it was on the site, wait over a month without any update other than "in production" only to find out that it most likely wont ship on 10/26 due to "parts backorder" and no decription of what part it is. When asked why no one has told anyone about this magical backorder I was told "our system will automatically email you with a new shipping date once the inital one has passed". I love this system and most Dell's just because you can upgrade and mess with the system. Seriously considering canceling my order and going to the local Best Buy that had a big banner about having Core i7 HP laptops in stock today..... But then I get this urge to vomit when HP is mentioned..... Oh well

It really dulls the excitement when you're expecting something only to have a delay. I didn't even order a 1645 and my order keeps getting delayed. I have a 1640 and something is holding mine up. I ordered it on 10.8. My eta has changed a couple of times and is now 11.6.
-
Illegal: That might be some sort of clue as to what is backordered. I was thinking that it must the be the proc as its new, but if you are backordered too, that means that its someother part that they should have had plenty of. That just adds insult to injury. All I know is that if it doesnt ship on 10/26, Im gonna give them a few choice words for their "system".

LOL, well you have to love Dell. At least when they screw up, they do it well.

I orderd my 1645 9/25 with EDD of 10/26. I got a very good deal like most of us, $1,319.58 (with tax) with blueray, 500G HD. VISTA as OS tho, asked about geting WIN7 preinstalled or atleast deliver upgrade disk with system, expecially since EDD is OCT 26. The manager said win7 upgrade disk will have to be orderd online after recieving system, then it will take who knows how long for delivery. After several emails my order was cancelled, 10/21. I want WIN7.
10/22 placed new order, this time through military exchange. Because Dell EPP site has 11/13 as EDD. The total from military exchange was a little bit more expensive, $1,682.62 (thats with a $100 discount coupon and no sales tax of course). This time I added Win7 Ultimate and BD burner. EDD is 11/7 (I do not believe it but I will wait and see) I think I will be happy with i7 and Win7 together. -

Well mdirmyer, maybe there is a ray of hope. Despite them delaying my order supposedly until early next month, I just got a ship notification 30 minutes ago. Hopefully, you will get an unexpected surprise and have your unit delivered soon. Best of luck to you.

-
Illegal: Congrats for the good news. Ill hold out a little bit of hope but at the moment, Im just hoping to get it in the next two weeks. Let us all know how it goes.

Ugh! I, unfortunately, did NOT get a tracking number yet. I have faith, though, as FedEx ships on Saturdays. Maybe tomorrow I'll get it. The latest it could ship and still meet my EDD would be next Tuesday.
~Ibrahim~ -
From the things I got told earlier, it doesnt seem like any of us who ordered 1645s will be seeing them anytime soon unless something happens over the weekend that is unexpected. I hope but Im not going to hold my breath......
-
Hmmm...
That's disappointing!
I wonder why the woman (actually from the Jaguar Sales Team) said that my system was finished/ready to be shipped. But, I have faith in her! I say Monday/Tuesday they all start shipping out.
~Ibrahim~ -
Anyway, I'm not taking word of any Dell Rep. At least online Dell Reps, they just seem to change their mind every day. "Oh, yes it's going to take at most 2 weeks before shipping", "I can't guarantee it will be up for that date", "Most likely it won't be for that date" and "What are you talking about, your order already shipped!"
I swear, next time they'll just tell me they replaced my XPS 1645 with uranium or some stuff like that. -
Mine is also still in-production with an EDD of 10/27.
-
m1: Im with you. Ive been told so many diffrent things over the last few days that Ive just about run out of faith in anything that Im told by anyone who works at Dell.
ikjadoon: I hope you are right about the Monday/Tuesday thing. -
This XPS 1645 is like a urban legend.
Ikjadoon : I hope your laptop will be shipped this week end ! -
There is now no mention of a ship date when I call the EPP order status line!
-
Thanks, guys.
I haven't been steered wrong by the Jaguar guys yet, so I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.
If the systems truly were delayed, I think, Dell would've changed the EDDs.
~Ibrahim~
P.S. Of course, the first person to get the system is honor-bound to post pictures or system screen-shots. Or we'll come to your house and steal your laptop... -
-
This is such a hard damned wait! Reminds me of the Calvin & Hobbes cartoon where he has to wait 6 weeks for his helicopter beanie and it seems like an eternity for him.
At least being able to see the status helps a bit. -
Do yall have the 9 or 6 cell battery ordered?
-
Hi All,
I've been looking at picking up the XPS16 and finally found a good E-Value Code in the October catalog (paper catalog, sent to me via mail): 6f984-dypcfx7. Problem is, while the code is valid, the processor is definitely not the Core i7-920 as stated in the ad, nor is the screen the 16" RGB but a 1680X945 downgrade. So I went thru the online chat with a rep in India, but couldn't get my point across that the build wasn't the same, and all he wanted to do was bilk me for another $250 to upgrade the screen to RGB. What I want is the system in the catalog, not a downgraded system. It felt a bit like a bait-and-switch, but I'm willing to accept Dell might have made an error with the E-code. Problem is, can I get them to honor it?
Do you guys/gals have any suggestions? I really like the config for the price (and was going to add the BD player). Thanks for any guidance. -

The people who ordered 1645's early on and had an EDD of around 10/26 should have an updated date. Mine just went from 10/26 to 11/2
-
Yes mine changed from 10/26 to 11/2. I am really pissed off! I have been waiting over a month for this thing.
- Garrett
p.s. With this new date better come with the option of windows 7 installed! -
You guys picked what components? 720QM? SSDs?
-
-
-
Yeah Im pissed off now too as my date went from 10/26 to 11/5. Ill bet anything they are giving the Alienware laptops priority if it is a shortage of procs.
-
noooooooooooooooooooooooo! what a horrible thing to wake up to (my EDD was updated to 11/2 also).
-
people with EDD of 10/27. Has your EDD changed to to November also?
-
-
I would have to say anyone who had a date of 10/26 (me included) or later is now ESD of sometime first week in Nov or later which sucks. The other thing that gets me is that go build a new order, the ESD is only a few days after my current date despite having ordered on 9/26. I think Dell was taking orders on purpose and waiting for the parts. What a load of crap.
-
Someone at Dell UK has just been messing with the 1645 page as for a moment the price went up from £1079 to £1199 then back again but after clicking through to configure the laptop the page won't load just says it's trying to retrieve the page.

Im in school so I can get Win 7 any edition for a huge discount $29.99 USD last time I looked. I didnt really care about Win 7 or Vista as Im going to dual boot Win 7 Pro with a Linux (undecided flavor at the moment). Im just erked because they didnt even call me to tell me that my order was going to be delayed. I had to call in about it, and get lied to 3 diffrent times. Their customer service is getting worse. Maybe ill cancel my order and go with another laptop. I was going to get a m15x or m17x but after reading about the issues with those laptops, I chose the SXPS 1645. Im starting to think that was a mistake.
-
Ordered on 10/9. My original EDD was 11/12 and it hasn't changed as of now.
-
Ordered mine on the 28th and still showing Estimated Delivery Date: 10/27/2009. I ordered i7 820QM with SSD and RGBLED. I also had next business day shipping because it was free for EPP. I guess I will see if it ships on Monday or not.
-
same here, ordered on 28th. EDD still 10-27.
-
I ordered n 10/4 and my EDD is still showing 11/2 (for now).
-
I ordered on 10/16 with and got a EDD of 11/12.
-
My order date was 10/2/2009 and my EDD remains as it was since the end of the first week 11/3/2009. (Was originally 10/29/2009 when I ordered)
I really hope that there aren't more delays... This is just rediculous. They already had a severe waiting period on these laptops and now they are extending those with no notification of it and why? This is some of the worst business practice ever... I hope that many of us report these issues to the Better Business Bureau.
If anything, Dell should have labeled these as "Pre-Orders" if they didn't have all the parts required to assemble these laptops. -
Did all of you order the 9 cell battery?
-
I did order the 9 cell
-
mine is also 9 cell.
-
NOOOOO! NOOOOOOOOOOO! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Blasphemy! She said it was ready! UGH! And, TBH, I ordered on 9/25, so this has become a 40-day order.
I'm not that angry, but free upgrades anyone, lol??
FYI: there is no choice between the 9-cell and the 6-cell for the SXPS 1645. If you ordered the 1645, you get the 9-cell, at least here in the USA.
~Ibrahim~ -
Mine had the 9 cell as the only option I believe. So yes, mine has the 9 cell as well.
