I just checked my order status this morning and I got this notification right under the status info about consenting to the delays that are required by the FCC. I signed the consent as it said my order will ship today. I did not get this on my screen yesterday. Has anyone else got this notification on their order status?

    - Garrett

p.s. I am still giving hope to dell as I got my laptop for a very very sweet price and if I were to cancel and re-order now, the laptop would cost me over 2100!

Yeah, apparently laptop now standars 6GB RAM where as before it used to be 4GB. It used to be 1349$, now it's 1649$ standard, the increment in price is consistent with the RAM update price before (300$) but it seems it also includes the BT module which used to cost 20$ extra and it also includes windos 7. Still is a little bit to high for me, as I wanted the RGBLED screen.

This is just an excuse to justify the 64 bit proccesor IMO. My order is still in production and EDD remains still at 11/2.

For what it's worth - and I know some of the zealots will call this thread-crapping - I cancelled my Dell order a few days ago and walked in to my local Canada Computers and purchased the Asus G51j-A1.

Couldn't be happier. First off, it's faster (for play) thanks to the nVidia 260m. This will net me some additional futureproofing, I think. Secondly, it's not vapourware! I am very disappointed in Dell's ability to ship what they advertise in a timely manner. A 6-8 week wait is ridiculous when I can walk into a local retailer and grab an HP Envy 15 (which I looked at - HATE the trackpad!) or something like the Asus.

To each his own. I am sure you will all enjoy your new computers - as will I. Let's just hope they are worth the wait.

    Thanks for nothing Dell!

Same boat here. My order is scheduled to ship today and be delivered on Monday. Web site say In Production with a EDD of 11/2. Phone system stills says In Production in the Build Stage but no longer gives an EDD. Not holding my breath that I will see it anytime soon.

Well, some idiot decided to cancel my order and move my shipping to 11/25, I ordered on 9/26.

I really liked this laptop but I won't deal with Dell's bull anymore, I'm canceling my order.

My order was due to ship today, so I called to check.
They said the delivery date has been moved to 11/9, and that they didn't expect any more delays.
    Fingers crossed...

i also just checked my order. I got the same FCC message about my order. My EDD went from 11/5 to today 10/30. I hope they ship Fedex so I get my laptop tomorrow. Will keep you all updated and post pics/reviews if I get it. :)

So in my mind, ive got a 50/50 shot. Either someone messed up with the date on this FCC thing, or they got the parts sooner and are ready to build/ship those who ordered in Sept.

On another note, anyone who tells you that your order got canceled due to the Intel 5300 Card, tell them they are full of it. Go build a new sxps 1645, it still lists the 5300. On the bluetooth thing, I screwed up my order and left out the bluetooth and had to order one seperately (which arrived over a month ago btw). If Dell is canceling orders due to something in the bluetooth module, Id like to know why as I ordered seperately and got the updated part the everyone is mentioning..... Which I find interesting.....

I also have decided against canceling my order. If i were to go to any other laptop, Ill just end up paying more for it than I will the 1645. In light of this FCC thing, Im willing to give them until 11/7 which was my old updated EDD. If i dont have it by then, Im going to talk with Team Jaguar and get something to comp for being lied to on multiple calls.

First off, Axial Pro, nobody cares. Are you an emp of Asus?

Second, those that are cancelling their order, is it because of:

A: I'm upset & want to make a point (which, trust me, you really aren't), or
B: I don't have to have a new laptop, but I want a new one (and I have another that will get me by until then), or
C: I need a new laptop now, & I can't wait any longer (and I don't have another one that can get me by)

My guess is most are falling in the A & B categories, LOL!

No, I don't care if it takes 2 more months, I'm not cancelling my order.

    @BfB

Oh, so I guess that makes you a Dell representative, so you're completely biased and we shouldn't even consider your posts, right? See how it feels?

No, I doubt the real reason anyone is cancelling their order is to "make a point" (though that is a quasi-perk). I think people don't like giving a company money who has such poor service in their eyes: who is to say this poor service won't continue when they get their product?

I'm glad you're patient: it's a virtue most of us are lacking.

    ~Ibrahim~

P.S. Just about to call. :)

    So anybody knows whats happening?

I sent one email askign them to retrieve my old EDD or cancel "my" (I didnt order it) "new" (i want my old) order... And 5 minutes later I sent email asking to cancel my order because I was afraid that it will be too late if it gets to "in producion" phase.

I'm very dissapointed. My friend is going back to Croatia 17.11.2009. and I need it delivered... So it's not patience... I really need it then.

Unfortunately I'm part of the C group, I'm currently chained to my desktop and it's driving me insane, I had a hard enough time placing my initial order knowing it would take them a month to ship it, but two months? that was just too much for me, especially since I'm paying $2000 for a computer.

I just got off the phone with Dell, they offered a $75 discount if I agreed not to cancel but wouldn't give me a straight answer when I asked about the November 25th shipping date (I ordered September 25th) so I canceled anyway.

It sucks because it looks like a great laptop, maybe next year I guess, for now I think I'm going with the HP Envy 15.

Make sure you try out the envy 15 in person. I didn't like it at all and for the money I'd rather buy a real Mac. If you want a nice 15-16" laptop with great performance and value, consider an Asus G51 or Sager/Clevo. Both are better than anything Dell/HP is putting out. I used to have an SXPS 16 as well but sold it.

My XPS 1645 order was "changed", as it says so now on the status page instead of "in production" as it was before. My EDD was 11/12, but now it says "not shipped" as well. Does that constitute a cancelled order that was remade, or was my actual order just edited or "changed"? I hope my edd doesnt change despite the fact that it is not listed anymore..

They canceled your order and remade it, if you check the bottom of the screen you should see something called "Associated Orders", your new order with a considerably further away delivery date will be there.

It's utterly ridiculous that they're cancelling orders seemingly for the sole purpose of pushing back the delivery dates. Are they trying to make their lead times look shorter? Worse yet, it doesn't seem like Dell is even e-mailing customers about this; people are finding out themselves by logging in.

My EDD hasn't changed, but I'm starting to think it's inevitable. At this point, it's also starting to look inevitable that I'll wind up canceling my order.

lol, so I called. It's actually pretty funny.

The guy said that since Dell is a "main-order company" (I have no clue) they can't guarantee shipping dates. I might get lucky and get my order before December 2nd, but that is only a possibility. More delays could occur and I could do nothing about it.

His manager wasn't helpful, but after being on hold for ten minutes, I had to cut it short and go to a meeting. Promised he would call in 45 minutes. It's been over two hours. :D

So: sales people in Dell are useless. I'm trying Jaguar now, hopefully get this whole thing sorted. If it is coming after November 5th (the EDD that they were "confident" in)....shoo, heads are going to roll!

How is this possible? What were they doing during last month with the laptop? I understand some parts are delayed, but they should provide a definitve EDD not this cancel orders non-sense.

If it gets delayed past 12 Nov, I'm not going to see it until 19 Dec. Merry Christmas to me....

Well I just got screwed. I just got a call saying that there is an issue with the current intel 5300 and that they need to cancel the order and reissue it with a diffrent part number for the intel 5300 (new card version). I am livid at this point. Im going to call Team Jaguar and raise hell.

Seems like they're trying to buy time and cancelling/reissuing orders for anyone who had an already delayed EDD of sometime next week. Anyone out there still with a EDD of 11/2 or 11/5?

Well the same just happened to me.. no email, no call, just a cancelled order. The reason I got from tech support was very funny. "There was a problem entering your order into the database , so it was cancelled" ( atleast rehearse your excuses). The guy seemed even happier if I wanted to cancel my order.

Since I am leaving US on 15 Dec and the new date is pretty close to it and I am still not sure if the order will be shipped by then, i guess I will have to cancel the order. But that may just be what dell wants right now. Safe to say this my first and last dell order.

Anyone knows where we can buy a Asus G51 fast? Amazon now says "ships in 1-2 months" now.

    Hi All,

I've been following this thread for a while now. But my story isn't any different than anyone else. So, I'll leave it at that and have you all form your own stories.

But I just wanted to mention that I'm still on EDD as 11/3/2009. Of course, no guarantees that'll be the date, but just wanted to let everyone know and I'll post again if/when this gets changed.

Well just a little ray of hope shined on me today. Got a call from a supervisor, Shelly, at sales. The 2nd order I placed had EDD of 11/19 (with 3-5 day shipping since I ordered thru AAFES). They moved EDD to 11/16, with next day shipping. :)
I've been whining like a little baby about the how my original order placed on 9/25 got cancelled, and how they couldnt give me a straight answer on Win7. So I left that order cancelled and re-order a new one on AAFES.
She said she will keep following up on it with manufacturing, and try to push EDD sooner since my original order was 9/25, but no promises
I dont know what the issue is with some of your orders, Bluetooth module not working with Win7? Did they just get Win7 yesterday? Joe Shmoe had his hand on Win7 months ago?

Well I got a little worried when I saw this, but I think it will be ok, looks to be an issue with the Intel Wi-Fi 5300.. I placed my order on the 27th; the EDD is 11/18. It looks like all of these orders got pushed back due to this error.

Really sad that an issue like this would happen because of a driver. Just send me the hardware, I’ll install all that crap manually :p, I’m going to be wiping the drive and partitions and putting Win 7 Ultimate on it anyway. I hate waiting, I’m really excited to get a hold of this laptop.

Its actually not the driver, its the card itself. There is some sort of issue with the old style cards and rather than just send the system with the new one, they have to cancel, put in new order with the new part number, and push you back several weeks from having the system. Dell sucks.

Anyone want to make a separate thread with expected dates b/c this is getting silly. Also, should probably include country (though I assume most are USA) but I'm interested in Canadians :p

edit: Just talked to a Dell rep and the reason why Canadians don't have bluetooth option is because there are compatibility issues w/ Windows 7 and their 370 module. As to why the US site has it, who knows. Hopefully anyone with a current XPS 1640 and running Windows 7 can tell us if Bluetooth isn't working?

They better compensate for this crap they are pulling. I like many others have ordered on 9/25 and have to wait two months for the laptop? This is total BS! Sorry for the rant. I bet we will be seeing more and more people on this thread doing the same thing. I wish you all the best of luck and hope to receive the laptop. They better compensate the people who have ordered early and have to go through this.

    - Garrett

p.s. what I find funny about the new order, is that they never changed the OS to windows 7 but kept windows vista. They better install Windows 7 on the laptop.

Did anyone purchase the laptop around the end of september and used the 15% bing cashback promotion?

I did, and my order got canceled by dell, and now my 240$ bing cashback account is wiped clean.

This entire ordeal is awful, I'm calling dell now to cancel my order.

I wish I could give up on dell. The price is just perfect and the screen + cpu is exactly what I need.

Well, my order from 10/16 is still listed for an EDD of 11/10. I called Dell up to cancel my order (preemptive strike) based on everyone's comments and hold out to the end of the year. Dell refuses to cancel the order claiming the system is being built and they see no reason why the order would be delayed. I guess I'm the only one who wants to cancel here but can't.

Also, when I purchased my system there was a note on the website saying the systems would ship with the Windows 7 upgrade DVD in the package. The Dell rep said this wasn't true. I don't know what to believe anymore.

There's a couple interesting changes on the Dell Canada website today. A couple of the big ones is the 820QM processor is not available at this time, and the Intel 5300 Wireless cards are not available either, but the Dell 1397 and 1520 are. I wonder if these are indicators of problem areas causing of all the issues?

I also find is kinda strange that the 6GB RAM deal is not available like on the US site, and the price on a lot of upgrades has all of a sudden gone way up (6GB RAM upgrade is $550, 1080p RGBLED is $400, 3yr Warranty with CompleteCare is at $299?.... , are you kidding me???)

Over the last few months, I have found that the USA and CAN sites are almost identical in what they offer, but the changes are becoming larger as far as parts availability.

well I looked at my old "cancelled" order and my new order and even though they changed the Bluetooth description, the part number remained the same (as I stated earlier). But I just noticed that the WiFi card description stayed the same...yet the part number is different. So now I'm not sure which part was the "problem", but considering everyone else is being told it's the WiFi card, I'm inclined to think it was the same for me too (despite that none of the 7 reps I talked to could answer that simple question for me). Just thought I'd update everyone else on my finding.

Honestly, I'm sorry to hear so many people had their order's canceled. I can am fine with an error here or there, but when such a large amount of orders were screwed up at once, it really shows how crappy Dell's business practices can be...especially since they refuse to help bump us up in priority! I mean jeez, our systems should all be built (except MAYBE that wireless card)...so why not still send them to us only with the new order numbers tagged to them. simple fix if you ask me...but whatever.

Unfortunately for me, I landed a pretty sweet deal when I originally ordered and I'm hesitant to cancel my order (yet). Man I'm torn between extremely boneheaded business practice and a great laptop for a good deal.

I'm going to wait until Mon or Tues to cancel because I want to see if anyone finally gets a tracking number. IF people do, then I feel I can wait it out since our shouldn't be TOO far behind...especially since a few people have completely canceled their orders now. I'm crossing my fingers, but I really have lost hope and will most likely end up ordering the Asus next week.

    Good luck to us all.

I got another call from the same Dell manager today. He said he anticipates no delay with my order and expects it to ship Monday or Tuesday. I don't know why I have received so many calls giving me updates about my order, while others haven't been told anything. If anything changes with my order I will post it here (like everyone else haha).

Oh and I ordered with the Intel 5300 card and bluetooth.

My EDD is still 11-3 and my dell rep said that she will call me Monday in case there is any change. Let's see what happens.
