Ok, here is what I got from Dell's Chat.
This is the third time this week.

Sad to say, It could be worse! You get your Vista Laptop in 2 weeks. Go order your Win7 Upgrade disk, same issues come up and your upgrade disk EDD is 2010.
WTH? Its NOT in Phyisically in production. It can't be in production for 3+weeks? Can you imagine your laptop in assembly line for 3 weeks, one bolt a day. Plus they cancelled my order with out my consent? Maybe I sould give you the sales rep who cancelled my order on her own. -
On the US site the only difference i saw was that it comes with 6gb of ram standard instead of 4. Price went down on the RGB screen from $250 to $175 now. But it still cost $245 more than my build and I had MS office student included with my build.

Here is DELL's email explaining the official reason for changing the order
"
We had to make a change to your order due to a Dell operations request. Due to web page error the original order did not quoted with the correct sku number for Intel® 5300 WLAN Wireless-N (3x3) Mini Card. Therefore, we had to cancel your original order and resubmit the order with the correct sku number.
Here is your new order #xxxxxxxx
If you would like to check the status of your order, please call Dell’s automated order status enquiry system at 1-800-433-9014, or visit Dell’s Order Status page at: www.support.dell.com
Once your order gets In Production status we will submit a request for expedite.
Thank you for your patience and understanding and please accept our apologies for any inconvenience.

kinda sux that's its almost 100 pages on on an owner's forum, and still not a single owner
-
Well I believe that's why we have the other thread for the true owners, once that happens... This is basically an order issues thread at this point with pointers to alternatives.
Which... I was looking into getting one of the Asus laptops. But I'd be compromising in some way (which, with any laptop, something is compromised).
I decided to look at the Sony's... I've been afraid of them and I thought the FW series at 16.4 was too big. Turns out that the actual dimensions are very close to the XPS 16. So if my order doesn't go through I might switch, can also get a bluray drive and Windows 7 Pro pre-loaded with a clean install (no bloatware). Video card is the 4650, but since I believe its the same as the 4670, just slightly lower clocks, not too much of a concern and I can still get the 900p screen which isn't an option with Asus. All for about (almost exactly) the same price as my i7 XPS 16 order, which does not have bluray or bluetooth (standard on the Sony).
The big pull for the XPS is that I believe it still is a better build for venting than many other similar laptops, has better dimensions, and the i7. I do wish I ordered mine with bluetooth but maybe in the end that will get me lucky on my order that I didn't pick it, we'll see. Plus the XPS16 has DDR3 1333 memory, which as far as I understand, should pair very well with the i7. -
What's the new part no. for the " Intel WiFi Link 5300 802.11AGN Half Mini Card?" Mine is 430-2955. Nothing has changed to my order so far.
-
430-0737 1 Intel WiFi Link 5300 802.11AGN Half Mini Card
Is what I had in my order from a few days ago. (Canada) -
430-0737 is the new one
-
My EDD went from 11/2 to 11/9 this morning. I guess that is good considering what some folks have gone through.
-
Argh... mine's still listed as 430-2955... I'm guessing this may mean mine's getting pushed back. The EDD is 11/13 though, so still 2 weeks away. -
-
-
-
I'm considering calling Dell up and asking them about the wireless part (mine is also still listed as 430-2955 with an EDD of 11/9), but I imagine I'll be given the run around. Those of you who have had their orders cancelled and reissued, has your EDD been bumped up at all from the ridiculous late November and early December? Someone mentioned something about the order being expedited once it got into production.
-
-
I guess we'll find out soon eh or at least some people will...
-
Estimated Delivery Date: 11/9/2009 (updated)
I still have not received one notification from Dell... I'll wait out the 11/9/2009 delay... But if it happens again I think I'm going Sony.
I'm tempted to call and try to confirm if they can GUARANTEE the 11/9 date... I need my laptop before the week of Thanksgiving, and I would prefer it before 11/20 as I have work to do that weekend and I'd like to not be restricted to my desktop so I could head out and about. -
-
Like everyone else, I'm starting to think about alternatives (need a new laptop asap for class). -
The correct wifi part number is: 430-0737.
I will be calling my rep. on monday to see what they can do to compensate me for the multiple delays. And I better get my laptop way before the EED of 11/23. The EED would make me having to wait two months for the damn thing!

We're all out for a bargain these days, huh?
Well how's this for a bargain: Dell is replacing an Inspiron E1705 with XPS 1645 of my own choosing, it's been more than a week almost however and there's still no order number yet. My Dell rep says it's still being processed. This must be related to these other delays with the 1645. -
[430-0737]. I cancelled that order to get win7 and the RGBLED and the new part number on the order placed 20/10/09 had part 430-2955 INTEL WIFI LINK 5300 802.11AGN ... Maybe different cause im in canada? -
My order was Oct. 28, 2009 and I got P/N 430-0737 in Canada. Weird...
-
-
my EDD is still 11-3 as of now
-
At this point, I am just hoping that someone -- anyone really -- gets the damn thing so we can find out whether it is in fact awesome or spontaneously combusts upon boot. I am keeping my fingers crossed that despite Dell's gross mismanagement here, the actual units will have been worth the wait.
-
when my laptop order got screwed up and remade, they used 430-2955 on both... so who knows. My order was cancelled because dell financial screwed up on our credit processing. My rep did get back to me and said that my order looks like its still progressing through the build process, and that it doesn't seem like anything is wrong from what he's able to check on.
He was careful to not make any promises though.
On a lighter note, my wife got her Studio XPS13 that was ordered at the same time. She's loving it so far. It runs WoW at near-max settings 60fps, L4D with all settings on high like butter, and just zips around in whatever she's doing. So thumbs up for the SXPS 13s. -
There are at least two different models of the 5300. One is a full minicard, the other is half size.
-
any heat issues associated with this laptop?

What is the closest ETA of any new owner?
On the HP Envy thread, Tuesday seems to be the day to start and get ours... -
Well mine was due on 2nd of November. Though I just checked and my order got updated to 9th of November. No email, no explanation and no idea if they'll just cancel the order after the revised date like the others.
I think there was someone who was getting it on 5 or 6, but I don't think we'll see any 1645 until late november. Why do they push the EDD 1 week and then cancel the order anyway? Shouldn't they re-order it right away? -
-
-
It is rather offensive too.
Now, to the question asked. There is no way to know, since nobody actually owns one. -
But no, they rather update their EDDs and then redo their orders with almost no explanation as of why this has happened. The one who realised there was a mistake should have told his supervisor there is probably a mistake with the current 1645 production and he should have provided us with accurate information within due time! It's not that hard.
Asus G51 starts looking very nice, it's a shame it doesn't have longer battery times. I'm not a fan of 1hr durations.... -
Toss my hat into the ring of people who have gotten cancelled. The ONLY difference in the old order that Dell cancelled and the new one they remade for me is:
Old said:
430-2955 Intel WiFi Link 5300 802.11AGN Half Mini Card
New says:
430-0737 Intel WiFi Link 5300 802.11AGN Half Mini Card
No other differences. -
-
I ordered my on the 26th or October and it is not suppose to be here until the 17th of November. I feel that 22 days is a long time to wait for a laptop but from what I ordered I was prepared to wait a week or so. The part that I have a problem with is that the sales person lied to me point blank.I asked him if there was ANY delays on this laptop (this was before I went to the forums) and he told me NO, and they offered free next day shipping so I am interested in seeing how this goes. I would love to have that laptop but if they put me off for another day, im just gonna cancel. This is sad to take peoples money and then not give them the product.
-
Just called Dell to find out why the order was cancelled(to see if I got a different story.)
The guy I spoke with said it was cancelled and reordered because it sat in production for so long. The 1645 is one of their top sellers and they have been having trouble keeping up with the demand. They cancelled and re-ordered to get me my computer as soon as possible?
Does not compute... -
My original order that was done on the 26, October have the new type
430-0737. Hopefully there wont be any delays. I had this same problem with a TV that I "tried" to buy from them, they promised Next Day and then cancelled the order and then put it for 2 weeks later, no call, no email, I noticed it on their website when I checked its status. -
did they give you a new EDD?? and whos fault is it that it sat in "Production" for so long, surely not yours, I smell a lawsuit in all of this somewhere.
-
-
Things a guy got to go through to get a decent mid-ranged price laptop from dell.... -
My new edd is 11/30 and i had email enabled for status changes on the order and did not get an email either. -
