I ordered on 10/4 and originally had an EDD of 11/2. Being pushed back a week isn't too bad if that is how it actually works out. If it goes further than that, I am going to start looking for alternatives.
-
For those that are thinking of the DV-8t, I would go to Best Buy and look at the DV-7t and try out the touch pad. It is too smooth and it isn't easy to scroll your finger for hours on end. I almost ordered the DV-8t, but I am glad I tried it out before I did. It will be worth the wait for the XPS. The XPS has more of a textured pad.

Just curious, but assuming that Dell actually ships the 1645 someday, what's the plans for this thread?
I mean, there are over 1000 posts (100 pages) of people commiserating about their 1645 orders, yet not one single OWNER.
In the interest of having a thread that exists for people that ACTUALLY HAVE ONE and want to discuss/search for/ask about real experiences with the 1645 (drivers, reviews, other useful information), should there be a NEW thread created or what? Otherwise, this one will be basically useless in the future for reading from start to finish for those interested in the 1645...
( not to mention, if this thread is anything like the HDX18t forum over in the HP section, there will most likely be another 1000+ posts from people giving minute-by-minute updates as to where FEDEX or UPS has their 1645 and when it will be delivered. All very exciting for those waiting, but not so exciting for everyone else)
Just thought I would put it out there for discussion. -

This is the 1645 Owners thread...What are you talking about?
Yes, there will probably be a new thread started..Once peeps start to receive their orders, or when the Mod's deem this thread to large..and create a new one. This thread is not exclusive, just because those that ordered didn't receive their 1645's yet! They can discuss what they want regarding the 1645 ~ That is is what it is here for. And, it is open to anyone regardless of whether or not they have, or have not ordered.
I think, that having a *stickied* thread at top of the XPS forum is a good idea...as stated before ~ like the one already there for the XPS 1530. That right there is taken care of, with helpful information on drivers, etc. and any and all informative information on question/answers on the 1645.
And, your concern that everyone in this thread has been posting on their updates/delays on their orders for the 1645 has been solved. We had to do this before when the other 2 threads on the 1340 & 1640 were first created with the same issue you are referring to!!
-------------------------------------------------
Guy's...I have created a The OFFICIAL Studio XPS 1645 Intel Core i7 Order Status Thread
To help on the *thickness* of the Owner's thread here, and really we should be posting any Order Status Questions/Updates/Inquires here: Dell Shipping Order Status and Customer Service Issues, in this section of the forum.
Please post your Order Status Updates, Delays, any info here:
The OFFICIAL Studio XPS 1645 Intel Core i7 Order Status Thread
This will be very helpful, and easier to follow! There is a format setup!

Well this will be a boring thread now.
-
No she's right this thread should be targeted to actual owner's of the 1645. It was a good idea to create another thread directed at this specific problem.
-
And, the reason I didn't follow up on my previous post about starting a new thread is because of the sheer volume of order update posts that I get in my email, I tend to not look at them all...just a matter of my time vs. volume of posts here regarding order status.
Maybe the moderators can rename this thread, once the 1645 starts shipping, and append/prepend something like "pre-shipment" to it. I don't know...
(and yes, once the pipeline starts flowing, and deals start arriving on the 1645, I will be an OWNER of one!)
-
Dell said last Wednesday that it my system would arrive in five business days, so probably in another three days or so. So November 4th. Replacement for a M1730 that I first called about on August 5th. Three months is only a quarter of a year, right?

If any one has inquiries regarding the maintenance of any content in a thread, feel free to contact a moderator or create a thread in the Site Suggestions, Help and Announcements forum. If any modification is needed, the mods will handle them accordingly.
-
I never asked anyone at Dell about this--does anyone think that I'll be eligible for the Windows 7 upgrade, given that my system is a replacement and not a new purchase?
-
When the thread was created...The Orders for the 1645 were being taken and were supposed to be processed...Hence The Thread Title and making of the thread.
WE cannot dictate what happens with Dell, and how or why their orders were delayed, etc!
And, it is not fair to tell/imply/or insinuate to those on the Forum, that they cannot post in a Thread simply because it has not arrived physically *in their hands*.
If you don't like the way a thread is flowing, you have that choice, not to post in it.
All these people you see here posting are so uber excited, about the arrival of the their impending 1645's...that they are putting their $$ so I would say, yes they are owners.

I don't think there is any argument that an Owners Thread/Lounge is a forum that people look to for helpful hardware and software issues. This forum is currently NOT THAT. Therefore, the overwhelming majoirity of the content of this thread is not appropriate for the title of the thread, IMHO, and I was hoping we could ALL come to some agreement on what to do about it.
You, 'Cin, started a new thread. Great. Thank you. But now, people are still posting about their delays, etc., because they haven't read your post about a new Order Status thread. So, the question remains (and maybe this is better suited to be asked to a moderator) is that once the 1645's ARE in the hands of the buyers, can we move all this pre-shipment content to the new "Order status" thread, and start this one again with new reviews and hardware/software discussion, or will we have to start a new thread???
Other ideas??? (this was the intent of my original question, to get some ideas and start a discussion on what to do...not point fingers at those who are currently posting here!)
Thanks. -

So, no one has actually received an XPS 1645 Core i7 notebook yet? 102 pages of . . . delayed orders. Okay.
This thread can stay open for discussion however once people start receiving their orders an [actual] owners' thread should be started and this one closed. For now I changed the thread title of this thread from "owners' lounge" to "discussion" so as not to mislead people.
If you report this thread when orders start coming in then a mod will come take the appropriate actions. -
Thanks for that.
It is a regular thing of Dell to do this, and IIRC there is a Sub Forum for shipping threads. -
Will do

The first person to get this is going to become an instant celebrity in this thread. I know I'm going to ask him 20 questions
-
The first persons with it were almost heroes...lol
But back to topic, I think this happened with the SXPS13 too, back when it was released... -
Mine should be coming in 2-3 days, but who really has any idea with Dell anymore?

Yeah but for me the other computers on the list I can check but for the XPS16 I kept getting that message. But it is working now. -
My 1645 is a replacement for an M1730 that had the graphics cards fail back in August (shocking, I know). They replaced my cards with cheaper ones; then they put the correct ones in, but these cards were already dead and my computer won't last for 5 minutes without tearing and dying. There were also problems where parts were missing from my computer after it got back from the depot, and they also messed up my BIOS config to the point where it bluescreened every time on start up. Basically, Dell really screwed me for upwards of two months. I went out and bought a Macbook back in mid-September after Dell techs came to my dorm and broke my laptop with the faulty replacement card.
I received confirmation of the final build specifications via e-mail on 10/26; this is after the computer was built and was awaiting final processing and shipping, which occurred two days later.

I can't quite tell if this means I'm getting a Windows 7 upgrade or not, it's not listed on here. Also, the screen I'm getting is the full 16.0" RGB but it's listed incorrectly here, although I read here that it is a known issue with their invoicing.
Anyway, assuming the Customer Resolution guy wasn't lying, the computer has been shipped and should be here in a couple days. He did promise me that I would have "first dibs" (my words, not his) on a new laptop, given what I've been through. But I would think that the first batch would be ready at around the same time, so I'm sure everyone will begin to receive their computers next week. -
It'll be interesting to see when I get mine. My EDD says 11/13 but that supposedly means nothing at all, as my rep was able to get my 1645 approved for "front of the line building and production" due to the 2 weeks of ty service we received just trying to get an order placed. He gave my orders (we also purchased a xps 13 which we already received) their fastest priority next-day shipping. Supposedly my 1645 should be hear "long before that" (my reps words) because the EDD wont reflect an update to your delivery until the laptop is done due to the way the system handles laptops that get pushed forward (assuming they actually move them to the front of the queue).
Does anyone know if Dell actually does push builds to the front of the queue or is it just a "get off the phone" tactic?
Also, I have the 5300 wifi card part number thats rumored to be bad so that may throw a wrench in eventually, although my rep says the order is fine when i checked on friday. -
-
-
But if the computers aren't available, they're not available. I'm half-expecting a call or e-mail to come in the next few days telling me that my order is delayed, despite already having been informed that it shipped.
Also I just realized that I won't even have my computer when it arrives. My account lists my home address but I go to school 500 miles away, and I don't think I ever told them that I need it shipped to my university address. Oops. -
-
-
Bleh, I'm not thinking of this anymore, I'll just wait until it gets, which could be until christmas eve. God I hope not, but there's just not much I can do. -
But I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more
Just to be the man who received the first 1645
To fall down at your door -
-
-
I'd be pissed if Dell is going to ship the SXSP 1645 as replacement units and not to fill the new orders. I understand that the guy went through a lot, but still...
-
Hopefully, soon, someone will actually GET a 1645 and we will contact you (or a moderator) to make some changes. Thanks again. -
You check the part number by looking at the order status webpage. Have you tried to check on your order status online? You said you handled everything by phone/email, but they still might have put up your order online. Who knows. It's no matter though. It won't be long now till we all have our shiny new laptops.
edit: By the way, my laptop is supposed to ship tomorrow. That's what the sales rep and the order status phone number said. I have a feeling it's not going to, but if it does, I'll post it here. -
On the issue of compensation, Dell randomly offered to ship me a 16GB (not too shabby!) flash drive because of how long its taking to get my 1645 to me. I'm sure you guys could get something like that too, especially because it seems like some of you have waited a longer than I have. -
Ohhh interesting update. I logged into my Dell account for the first time in a while on Bryan505's suggestion, and I found THREE orders for my computer (odd, because it's a replacement.) The first two were on 10/13 and were listed as canceled. The third is on 10/28 and is listed as in production with an unavailable EDD--odd, because I had been assured on Wednesday that it had been shipped and would get here in five business days.
What's worse, is that the ship-to address is completely incorrect, it's my dorm building that the techs came to when they tried to fix my old computer. It's listed as a corner of two streets because dorms can't receive mail, all mail and packages to the university mailroom.
Thank you for recommending that I check my account, I didn't expect there to be any info on there but this helps a lot.
Update Edit: My EDD is November 4th according to the sales rep, so that's good. Unfortunately, the address is wrong and he said they can't change it. He said the only way it could be corrected is if Dell shipped the computer there, UPS/Fedex realizes that the address is wrong, and they ship it back to Dell, and then they can change it. So that's going to add another couple of weeks.
Given my M1730 experience, the fact that it will now have taken 3+ months to resolve this issue, and this idiotic system they have... I will never buy another Dell computer again, period. -
This is the old number:
-
Part number is 430-0737... doesn't seem to match yours. Although the part numbers on the two canceled orders do match yours.
-
Well I checked my again today and NOTHING has changed....but again, my delivery date is not til the 17th so they may wait til I get closer before they decide they are going to screw me. I do seem to have the new wireless card on my original order so mabey there is a small light of hope...This week should be interesting for alot of us...
-
Well, since I dont have my XPS16, I guess I wont be posting here for the next month, maybe two, depending on dell.
-
-
Well... at least for now. -
The thread is not made for owners-only, then there would not be a point, since the laptop has not yet been shipped.
You are free to post things regarding the 1645.
Manuals, pics, hands-on, thoughts, impressions, whatever related. -
Hopefully within the coming weeks(month?) we'll get some reviews and pictures in. I was one of the earlier orders (9/29) that got cancelled and replaced with the different wifi card. The date is still set for 11/19 and they mailed me a 'Windows 7 transfer cable' the other day.
Hopefully this date will stick. We'll see... -
Geez almost 2 months since the first orders. I hope we get reviews within the next few days... I wonder if anyone anywhere has gotten their XPS 1645. I mean several people already have HP's Envy 15... come on Dell, step it up a notch. Better give everyone at least some discount or freebie, especially to those that have been waiting the longest!
