I got the first wifi card and dell rep told me it already shipped. I guess you guys should be receiving your order much much more earlier than what they said. By no means I think I'll be receiving it before you guys who ordered on september when I ordered on october.

is it just me, or does it seem both ironic and absurd that a COMPUTER company has an ordering system that won't allow basic functions like changing an order (I can understand why they wouldn't necessarily want to allow the consumer to do it, but they can't do it either?) or updating a shipping address?
fwiw, my order hasn't been messed with yet. I ordered with the 720qm processor, 500gig HDD, and 430-2955 wireless card on 10/6. My EDD hasn't changed from 11/9, which means I should expect a shipping notification in the next few days. . . right???
At this point, I'm pretty much waiting for them to screw with my order so that I can (hopefully) cancel it and order an ASUS G51j.
a part of me wishes I hadn't found this board, so I could be blissfully ignorant right now instead of spazzing about how long I'm going to be without a laptop (I was hoping my current laptop would last until the SXPS came, but it died last night). -
-
Tell me folks, why on God's green earth do you NOT ask for a tracking # when they tell you it has shipped??? WTH?
-
Dell customer service just gets better. I talk today again with another dell rep and told me other rep was wrong. Not only that, he implied the other dell rep was a "she"...
After 15-20 minutes he just decides I was going on circles and decides to end the session. How cool is that?! -
Well, I feel a little better about my chances for getting my 1645 order cancelled when it's inevitably delayed after reading about the FTC's Mail Order Rule.

lol, it's funny how Dell doesn't give a sh** about how their screen parts are listed on the order (see the first post for those that don't know), but an incorrectly listed wireless card is important enough to cause Dell to cancel all orders and put in an entirely new order without so much as an email/phone call to update everyone that they've been pushed back at least a month longer (and don't even think about compensating anyone either).
EDIT: wow, after seeing Jeff's post above, this part must have been REAL important because it caused Dell to forgo what they are supposed to do! lol -
As long as Michael sleeps well tonight, the hell with everyone else...Too bad we dont have much of a basis for a lawsuit...this would be a sellout session.
-
I'm sure most of these peeps have asked for a Tracking Number anyways, when their order has shipped, and have been told *it is not currently available*. And, if they are trying to find out thru the system they would be told, that their date is *currently unavailable*, if it is switching hands between the carriers, etc.

PS. Tried building one today, no other option now for Wifi Card but: WIRELESS CARDS Intel® 5300 WLAN Wireless-N (3x3) Mini Card. Looks like they are learning, we're the guinea pig. -
WOW. I think systems are officially on its way because D3ll posted its drivers online, though no manual yet...

I was getting my hopes up. My order was 11/2. Pushed back to 11//9. I ordered the same day as my business partner. He was also 11/2, pushed to 11/9. The only differences were.
Me / Him
820 / 720
bluetooth / no bluetooth
RGB screen / Standard lower res screen
He just got an email today saying he was pushed to 11/20.
I'm calling in the morning. I'll report in. If mine is pushed back, I am going to the dv8t. I like the dell better, but 2x hard drive space for the same price (minus the RGB screen) is a little too good to pass up. Also blu ray reader included.
The HP also claims a build date of 11/9... I think I'll make sure I get a sales person to confirm that though -

I doubt it's the bluetooth thing. Compare your friend's Intel WiFi 5300 AGN card number. "Wrong" number ends with 2955 -

So I ordered my 1645 on October 22nd with an esitmated delivery date of 11/13. I'm already very anxious to get this laptop and after keeping up with this thread I'm concerned about receiving my laptop on time. At this point, what do you guys think I should do to try to get my laptop as soon as possible? I've got the supposedly bad part number for the Wi-Fi card - 430-2955. I placed my order on-line and have never received a call from a rep or anything. Right now I'm considering calling them up and inquiring as to all of the delays experienced and as to the state of my order with the bad Wi-Fi part. Sound like a good idea? If so, is there some way to get to the top of the "food chain" or at least get with someone that may have an actual idea as to what is going on? Is there some "super-secret" number to call?
Thanks is advance for any advice. I'll let you know if I hear any good news. Good luck to everyone - let's hope it is worth the wait! -
Ya they screwed up my order also and fully resubmitted the order. All I got told when i called was that i was on priority and that it could ship any day, but that was by some dude didnt know squat. I ordered this the day that it came out with the new i7 precessor but i dont see how that payed off. Its a huge marketing sceme and now they are charging 1600 for the computer vs the 1300 i payed, and i got blue ray and some other features. It just building hype, and there are still no solid user reviews yet because their are no users but plenty of sales. If they dont get it to me in the next week, im going to start calling them and asking them for some free stuff or accessories or ram upgrade, but that could just delay my computer even farther.

"the cpu in your order has some shortages, sorry for the inconvenience."

Man, so depressing with all these orders delayed. And here I thought everything was going to go smoothly.
-
I think it was thoughtful that you posted it! Someone will be able to use it, if they are seeing coming upon the page, I'm sure!
Will surely let you know on the manual, and you do the same!

I really wouldn't worry too much about this. My computer is being shipped in two days, according to someone I just spoke to on the phone; I'm sure many, many others will be shipped out this week, despite the N/A listed for a lot of our EDDs.
-
I know some have bragged about "Team Jaguar", but has anyone specifically asked them to "come clean" about the truth in the delays, or the issue with the WiFi card and/or part #s for it? Or would they even know? Just curious, and thanks!

I don't know how this will affect us but CIT the financing company for DELL is filling for chapter 11

Just a follow up. My order was delayed until the 9th. My business partners order is delayed until the 20th. My guess is that it is a processor shortage as mentioned a few posts earlier. My business partner got the 720qm. I got the 820qm. I'll update if i find out anything more.
-
It's outrageous if the whole reason behind this delay is the processor... the delay itself is fine, however unfortunate, but the lack of transparency would be maddening.
My order (with an 820QM, no B/T, and the old Intel 5300 SKU) remains scheduled for delivery on the 9th, so at the moment I can't complain. Reading through these posts, however, it's upsetting to see the kind of service that people are receiving... even when I get the notebook, now I've got more concerns about service if anything goes wrong. -
-
My current EDD was 11-03, now they changed my EDD to 11/10/09. my original order date was 09-28. Are the new EDD's around 11-10 that you all are getting?
-
-
-
I have 720qm with RGB LED and 430-2955 part # for the wi-fi. the new EDD is now 11-10.
-
It turns out my business partner was actually canceled and re-ordered w/ a EDD of 11/23. He had the old part #. same as mine. I don;t trust Dell to not cancel mine, so I am off to find something else.
Good luck to all of you. I really liked the XPS 16, but I do not like the way Dell is handling this at all. -
One more quick update.
My Business partner just tried to cancel and they wouldn't let him.
Thanks for the FTC link posted a few pages ago. I told him about it and he is now calling them back to chew them out.
BTW, they only offered him a $50 coupon for his delay to try to keep him as a customer. He is now getting something besides a Dell. -
Does the information in that FTC link still apply if you ordered online (without involving any sales representatives)?
-
From the bulletin:
It applies to most goods a customer orders from the seller by mail, telephone, fax, or on the Internet.
It does not matter how the merchandise is advertised, how the customer pays, or who initiates the contact.
I think it does. I also think it doesn't matter. If it has taken this long and you refuse delivery and they bill you. Do you think any judge will let them collect on anything? They are being unreasonable by cancelling your order and resubmitting w/o your approval. Also, at least in my partners case, this appears to be to get out of the 1 month rule. They did it on day 29. I'll let you know how it goes, he's on the phone now.
I'm in a little different boat. I got a notice with the option to cancel. I do not believe for an instant that they are not going to cancel mine or delay it. I really want the Dell, but the way they are treating people here, myself included, is inexcusible and they don't deserve my business. I guess its now the lesser of two evils. HP vs Dell. -
-
-
I just canceled. No hassle. I got the option to cancel since they never canceled and reordered w/o my consent. Since I went over the 30 day rule, they had to let me out. My partner called up and they said they couldn't cancel his. He is trying again since I was on and off the phone in 2 minutes with my order canceled. He was told no and waited for 15 minutes.
They are hassling him now. They have told him to not accept the shipment and it would go back. This is the last time I do business with Dell. With this economy they are treating customers like this????? -
I still have an estimated shipping date of this Friday, but I have the old part number for the wifi....
-
I was on top of them and called a few days ahead of shipping. I think this somehow messed up their script. It appears, this is not an accusation, that they are waiting until right before shipping, which for many of us was 1 month from ordering to pull this cancel and re-order trick. If they do this to you, you will go through hell to cancel. My business partner is still on the phone for his second call where they are refusing to cancel. It appears that they do this cancel-reorder to get around the FTC rule technically. They are still violating the spirit of the law, but they are technically w/in their rights, I think. Although, I don;t see how they can cancel and re-order without your consent.
My advice:
1) call early and often to check on your order.
2) if the cancel-reorder and you don;t want to wait, call and cancel
3) if they refuse to cancel, get something in writing, or send an email and/or certified letter that you are refusing shipment. This should protect you if they try to charge a restocking fee.
I am not a lawyer, but any sane judge would accept this, in my opinion if it came to that. I can still hear my business partner arguing over the wall. They refuse to cancel. Good luck to those who are waiting. I'm still following this since I am interested in seeing how this turns out. -
My EDD is still 11/9 here. I guess the order is going to be canceled / re ordered like everyone else. I have the "wrong" wifi part (2955).
If it is getting delayed during the week I will have to cancel because I can't wait anymore since I m leaving the country for at least a year in few weeks. They will have no choice than letting me cancel my order since I'm gonna close my bank account lol.
The whole thing is just ridiculous...I didn't know it was THAT hard to build a laptop...I mean they could have just told everyone that there is going to be some delay because of some fake reason.
And about the fact that they can't modify a single part in an order...For a company like dell...Do they know CRUD ? -
This is pure speculation, but I'm wondering if Dell has been having issues with the heat on this laptop and that is the real resason for the display. I think a few pages back, someone said that the assmebly part was out of stock or something. I'm wondering if the reason for the delay is for them to figure out how to solve the heat problem by having a better cooling solution or using different components (does the new wifi card use less power?). The machines were already hot enough before they added power-hungry i7s, which might have just been a few watts too man.
