Nope. I didn't get any notification that my order had been cancelled and replaced. Like I said earlier, I even talked to that manager and he said it would be shipped next week.

The order being cancelled and replaced happened in the span of an hour at the most, I would say. I can't give you an exact time, but the new order had to have been placed almost immediately after the other one was cancelled.

You should be aware that, obviously, the order numbers are going to be different. So if you're checking the status online with the original order number, and not with your Dell Purchase ID or customer number, you may not see that the other has been placed.

    No problem! :)

You can also try the 1-800-433-9014, Automated..but the other one is good too! :)

    That's a great one!

    Ok Sparky! :p

Oh, yes of course, you rock! ;)
I forgot what humor was there for a moment....

Glad you got an update...The Automated Dial & Web will almost never match up. It always seems like the Automated Dial is more accurate. But as of late, who knows.

fwiw, I finally got transferred to somebody in the EPP department (who actually sounds like he's in the US), and he seems like he can actually help. I'm on the phone right now, and the guy said he could definitely get the same price as before. I guess if he makes things right, I'll keep waiting. There may be several laptops in this price range that are comparable, but nobody else has 12 months/no interest, which was a big part of why i ordered from Dell to begin with.

Excellent info, use the Dell Purchase ID.

    Just continuing to update everyone:

I'm on the phone with and extremely helpful and nice gentleman named Harold (he's in the EPP department). We're at a slight dilemma right now because the base memory on the system is 6-gigs versus the 4-gigs. He told me he didn't see a problem with matching the price, but wanted to get approval first through his supervisor (due to the memory change). He put me on hold, and after a few minutes came back asking me if I would agree to $100 more (on the old config, going from 4-gigs to 6-gigs was $300 upgrade). I told him that I didn't feel that was fair due to the original order being 4 gigs as the base, plus the fact that they have cancelled my orders twice (1st time a mistake, 2nd time because of Dell's issue with the wrong configuration with the wireless card). He said, "I notice you used your DPA, so I'll inform my supervisor, and I feel that he'll consider that and just match the previous price".

So now I'm on hold. I'll update as soon as I get the order back in 100%. I'm not mad (not yet, lol), and I'm very patient (takes a bunch to get me PO'ed ;)). However, I can understand what some of you are going through right now. It isn't fair that this happened to all of us, and I apologize we're having to deal with it.

Not really a good deal. Basically the same price as the standard config if you chose 6GB and BD-ROM then looked at the price to upgrade to 8GB and BD-RE. Btw 3 yr + CC isn't $80, it's $229. Read it carefully and you will see.

I just got off the phone with the first dell rep who has been helpful. He re-placed my order at the original price ($1397) and because of changes in the specs, I ended up getting upgraded from 4gigs of ram to 6 and from the 1600x900WLED to the 1920x1080WLED. My new EDD is 12/2, but the guy said he'd put in a request to get it expedited, which hopefully puts me at the back of the front list :p

I'm still annoyed that it took this many calls to get satisfaction, but for ~$350 in upgrades, I guess I can wait a little longer.

So, it appears the tactics at Dell are changing and they are possibly delaying even longer now (Dec), and giving 6GB upgrades plus other goodies in exchange for another cancellation/reorder/delay?

Could that be a sign that nobody is getting theirs until December???

This is better than a soap opera!! :)

I think that we, as customers, have been treated like sh$t by Dell. Is there enough basis to a class action lawsuit?

I'm thinking about filling a complain @ Better Business Bureau. Some user suggested that all of us should call a particular representative and demand some explanation? If anyone is serious about this, I'm in. If we don't do anything, Dell thinks it can do anything without consequences.

Also, users who are having their orders replaced/canceled/re-ordered with free upgrades, can you guys post your original order date as well?

Hmm, this looks quite nice. I wonder, they cancelled your order and then you talked to them to re-order for the same price and the guy got you the free 6GB ram update? When did you ordered?

Well, I don't think they're really giving that as compensation. It's just that their ordering system is so FUBAR'd that they can't downgrade it from the current minimum spec of 6gigs to the old spec of 4. It looks like that's the case with the display too.

The guy I spoke to just now asked right away if I had ordered with DPA, so I guess that bypassed the step of trying to convince me to pay more for the extra ram.

Since you haven't been charged, and there is no monetary loss, what would be the basis of a lawsuit? Pain and suffering? :)

Targeting some poor, helpless, random representative isn't fair to him/her. It sounds like, given the variety of excuses up to now, that these people aren't being given any accurate information. It's not really their fault.

I'm not a lawyer, but Dell's terms specifically state that buy buying from them you give up the ability to join in a class action suit. I don't know how well that would hold up in court, but I'd take a good hard look at their terms before thinking you're going to sue them and get anything.

You know Lancorp is right, the pee-ons are only going to spew whatever propaganda that the suits are telling them to say. Unfortunately, we have no retaliation effect with them but mabey we can ALL send an email in Mass to Michael Dell and ask HIM to tell us what the hell is going on.

yeah, I know. But that adds another step of litigation before you can get to the meat of the suit.

fwiw, the terms also say you agree to binding arbitration.

I have no idea whether their terms would hold up in court, but it would cost a lot more than the $1400-$2000 we've spent on our computers to find out.

As far as that goes, I dont think it is fair for them to cancel, reorder without the buyers consent and then not giving the option to cancel it if the buyer doesnt want to wait another 30 days for a laptop that should have been in in 10. If they are going to cancel and instantly reorder and not let me cancel, there sure as heck better be some free upgrade on that or I will scream at people until the cancel my order just to get rid of me.

Note: I've included all my posts from earlier today so everyone can get an idea of what's going on with my order(s).

As you can see in the first post, I've been getting updates from a couple of employees in the Dell Resolution department, and their email stated that everything was still on track with my now cancelled order, which as we now know isn't the case. I did just email them back to let them know of what happened since they emailed me this morning.

Anyway, what a whirlwind it has been with me and my orders. That was actually my 3rd cancelled order in the last 30 days! As I said in the my previous post, I'm a VERY patient individual, and I proved that again tonight. My new rep, Harold, was able to match the price 100%, so I'm still extremely happy. Actually, I'm even happier now, especially considering my new order has Windows 7 (versus Vista), 6 gigs of RAM (versus 4), and a black leather case (just had the standard black case previously). Yes, my new EDD is now Dec. 2, which the old was Nov. 9, but I can wait. It seems that patience is a virtue for some of us who are lucky enough not to need the laptop right away.

As for so called "expedited" orders, I asked for one, and he said he'd put that in for me. However, I'm not so sure that those really even exist, at least for the most part. I think it's just mainly something they say in an attempt to appease us.

    Here's my actual config:

Actually, you'd be surprised how far you get emailing the CEO. I had a dispute a few years ago with a cell phone company over $20. I simply sent an email stating, is it worth losing a customer over $20. I got a prompt response and it was taken care of immediately.

I've abandoned Dell already, but I would encourage you to find the email via google (thats what I did before) and send an email. it can't hurt.

Someone had said something early in this thread that they have to be at least 30 days past your shipping date before they have to let you do that..someone who is more knowledgeable in this please comment.

You certainly have been through a lot. Though when will it ever end? Will Dell ever send your Order? Or will they continue delaying your order until you finally got a M17X with the highest specs you can get from dell?

    Time is so underated....

I encourage you to read it.
My understanding from reading it is:
    1) they have to supply a ship date not more than 30 days out.
    2) If they cannot meet the date, they must give you the opportunity to cancel. They cannot assume that you have given consent. Its spelled out in the PDF.

In my case, on day 30 which was the estimated ship date, I got an email detailing the delay and giving me the opportunity to cancel.

In my partners case, they canceled and resubmitted his order. They then claimed the couldn't change his order. The trick is they did this 1 day before the ship date, thus skirting the law, albeit I don't think legally.

I listen to too much radio law, but if you've been waiting for over a month, I think you have a good case to get out of it.

I am not a lawyer and not giving advice. Just my opinion.

So, since I'm pretty sure my order is going to be cancelled soon (EDD 11/9), I'm going to e-mail my rep (to keep a trace) and ask him about the order. He will tell me (for sure) that my order has no problem at all, that it has already been shipped, that the box may already be at my front door blablabla...
If he e-mails back I'll have something to negociate next week, and will have some goodies.

so, they placed an order without his consent. Either way, I think if your partner keeps pushing he can get his order canceled. And if he ordered with a credit card, he can always take it up with them.

Well he ordered using the Dell Preffered Account.
He has already told them that he is going to refuse the shipment and that he will sue if he gets charged a restocking fee. It just seems that either:
    a) Dell is dumb and wants to eat the shipping cost and return of a PC that has been refused (He already ordered an HP)
    b) They are hoping he will cave and accept the order (not going to happen)

    HA! :D I needed a laugh.

Oh and good news  : my current laptop, a Dell E1705, is dying. Well, I think the GPU is overheating. Whatever it is, it's putting artifacts on my screen and forcing it to restart. Times is hard.

that definitely sucks. When my order was canceled, my first thought was to close my DPA account before they put in a new order. The only reason I placed the new order is I called to make sure they hadn't put in a new order without telling me and ended up talking to an EPP guy who actually helped me. If not for the 12 months, no interest, I probably would have just ordered something else from someone else.

do you guys think they will cancel my order cause i got the mini10 for $100 with my order if they cancel my order what happens to the mini10 that i got on the 10/22. I order on 10/13 and my edd is 11/16. I don't want them to cancel my order and end up charging me $300 for the mini10, i only bough it because it was $100.

320-8335 1 Premium FHD WLED Display, Obsidian Black, 2.0 MP Webcam

    BFB,

I know this has been addressed in earlier posts, but since nobody has gotten their 1645 yet to verify, did you ask Harold or anyone else if the FHD WLED is in fact the RGBLED?

Ok then, IMO, it would be best to choose one of this repertory of Dell Execs. It surely will arise the attention if they think the problem is happening a lot. (Since they would most likely think they shouldn't get that many attention calls toward a specific problem, unless of course we are just a tiny itty fraction of dell's current gigantic problems)

So why don't we pick one?

    Thanks for the info, Cin!

Check the first post. There are 3 ids for the RGBLED and yours is consistent with a RGBLED.

We're assuming that it is a typo, and that the screen is in fact the RGBLED one. I don't think it is 100% certain that our assumption is correct, but a lot of people who ordered (and paid for) that screen are ending up with the part number you listed. So it's a safe bet to assume it's a typo.

    Hopefully.

I read that too, but I can never get too many warm and fuzzies from unverified sources. No one has gotten their 1645 yet, so I still have a little doubt, unless this was also the case with the 1640.

I agree with Cin....mabey someone should draft a form letter and then we can all copy and change the information with our own information and then send them all at the same time...Revisions??

It would have to be several drafts because if they were to detect a similar pattern then it might be suspicious. More over, if we were to send it all at the same time it might even go as SPAM. And look who we're trying to get, Dell XO.

It is INDEED the RGBLED screen. He confirmed this with me. He said they use multiple part #s for that screen, as has been confirmed multiple times in this thread.

I think the "doubts" this screen will go on and on as long as the doubts are on the shipping of these systems, LOL! ;)

Swiftly kick me in the shins if this is completely irrelevant to you XPS'ers, but I thought it might be relevant because I'm ordering an i7, too: my order status for my Studio 15 changed to "Shipped' today, and says it will be delivered on Nov 6. Previously, it was not supposed to be delivered until Nov 23. No tracking number yet, so still suspicious. Has anyone else been told that their order has shipped?
