***Official Studio XPS 1645 Intel Core i7 Discussion Thread!***

They're putting the 920XM in the 1645 now? Please confirm. Why don't they put it on-line?

Are you saying the Studio XPS 16 can be purchased (over the phone) with the i7-920xm processor? If so do you know the preminum to upgrade from 820QM to 920XM?

I know the i7-820QM and i7-920XM both fit a PGA988 socket (I am sure the 920 is not available in the Studio XPS 16 - it is available on the Alienware laptop w/15" screen). So who at Dell do I have to call to order the 920 on the Studio XPS 16?

 

On the website my re-order that they did the other day still says "Order Processing", how long did you guys have that? On my original order it was only up for a couple hours. The automated system tells me it is being processed.

No this is my second order after they cancelled my first, it's "Order Processing" as in they are validating payment and whatnot I believe.

 

If your using Dell's Credit card, you might want to call them to get your order off hold...seems to happen to a few people here.

 

No, I was using my debit card.

Two things to note for my order.
1. Under My Orders on My Account page, there is nothing.
2. Under My Payment Information where it lists credit cards, both are blank. Don't know if there was an option to not save this info to my account when I ordered or not... As I normally do not want my card info saved on sites.

EDIT: Status updated to the long waiting "In Production" now... we'll see when the automated line updates, probably will just wait till tomorrow. I do find it odd about my payment info but if it made it to "In Production" everything should be good.

 

I was really hoping that I would read today that a few people got the laptops today...Congrats to the person whose I7 15 inch shipped, one small step... Hopefully by friday we will see a few of the 16's get shipped.

I know it's not quite shipping, but it's good to know they're at least finally past build stage.

 

That is good to hear. Maybe we will finally start to see some movement in the next few days. Mine revised EDD in this coming Monday, but I am still in production.

 

Im sorry, I must have missed that one , Yahoo, That is definately a step in the right direction. I will be happier when you actually have it in your hands though. And of course, get ready for 1 million question from the rest of us who have to live the excitement through you...

Yes sir. The EDD is still 11/18 -- I have no idea how long 'boxing stage' takes...seems like a couple of days from I hear on the ordering stage wiki thread.

I'll keep you guys updated with any changes, delays, etc.

OK, the team is now Team Music City (....). It went from Jaguar to Cavalier to Music City?!

Whatever. Anyways, dude says that my system is in Tennessee (I'm in KY) on the final stages, should be getting out to me soon.

But, the best part. He doesn't know if I can get Windows 7, but did say that some systems did ship with Windows 7, even if they got Vista if it was after the deadline.

Hope it is true. What does the phone system say about your order? Did you get a tracking number yet?

 

No, but I legit am so close. He tells me it is "in transit" which is why nothing can be changed (like W7).

He says that when it's in transit, it's going from Dell to Fedex. As soon as Fedex gets it, I get a tracking #. And the best part? Even though I have 3-5 Day Shipping, since it's already in Tennessee, I should get it very soon!

Dell.com has always just told me that it is in production. The number that Hayde posted gives additional details on what stage of production it is in (eg build, boxing...). That is the one that I have been using to check my progress. I noticed another phone number posted yesterday that just gives the same level of detail as the web page.

Well it is partly that, partly that the EDD is the day I'm leaving for vacation. I want to make sure I can have someone pick it up for me. I'd really like to have it before I leave. The bluray player will be nice for the planeride.

So far from the day of ordering (Studio XPS 16, i7-820QM, 8GB RAM, 16" RGBLED LCD, Intel WiFi Link 5300), everything has remained consistent and on track. I have called the rep, checked online and called the number you show. All methods of checking agree and are consistent. So far seems Dell is doing what they said for my order.

 

Yup. Now that both things seem to match up, I think next week is my lucky week.

Amen ikjadoon, I know that I have had a hard lesson of patience this order.I knew there was a reason that I like to buy local. I wish Bestbuy would take my Dell card (since they sell dell) but I think this laptop will be worth waiting for...

 

I think I got to give up on expecting the laptop before the 13th. It's very unlikely, a shame because now I got to wait another month :S

I would think you would need to if they will. But that will probably push you to the end of the line and delay shipping at least a month....or more.

 

Ibrahim, I'm seeing in your sig that your EDD is 12-2. IF thats true DUDE I WOULD CANCEL because you ordered in Sep right? I recall your order already delayed once???? THIS IS BS!!!!

 

Still, he might be getting his on a week, and I got delayed aswell and will probably get cancelled and re-order again as many other people which also got a EDD of december.

 

Well im not even giving them one chance to cancel and reorder. If they move my date, im done, Im canceling. 3 weeks is a long time to wait for a laptop, I cannot imagine or even try to wait 3 months....they need to give you some serious compensation.

 

Ibrahim - Even tho I ordered before you and mine is still in the build stage, I sure as hell hope that your order is really on its way (lucky SOB). If they cancel my order and re-order. I'm going to aim to get at least a free backpack for college. After that, maybe 6GB RAM, BD, Windows 7 or/and SSD. Ha, I'll be happy if they give me the backpack to be honest. Does anyone know if the XPS backpack that goes on the store can fit for the 16" screen?

 

What a surprise ! My order has been canceled and not re-ordered (this is the third time)!
I'm gonna have some serious talk with my rep tomorrow.
I borrowed a laptop so I can wait now and I'm patient if they keep giving me goodies for the same price (1769$ CAN before taxes : RGB LED, 256Go SSD, i7 720, 4Gig RAM, Artic White).

 

I just tried this number for my XPS 16 that I ordered on October 12 (i7,RGBLED, old WIFI part number).

The lady robot told me it has shipped to courier and that a tracking number would be ready shortly. This got me excited.

Then she told me it shipped on Oct 24 1999. One, I have a hard time believing it was built in 12 days and the odd year she stated makes me wonder about the accuracy of this system.

 

how can they not reorder it, I can understand them pushing it back for stupid reasons but not to reorder after canceling is just a slap in the face..it should be real easy to scream and yell at them and see what the give you in return.
