Dude..... You are kidding right??? With a 90W adapter, there is no issue of heat coming into the picture as the laptop is throttled and hence lesser power consumption and which gives away lesser heat... Wait for your 130W adapter and then turn on a game or play a full 1080p HD movie and then you will feel what we are feeling.... FRUSTRATION.....

    Guys a little help here.....

Anyone tried to get a 6-cell battery for this laptop???? I need one and the freaks over at CUSTOMER CARE tell that this laptop is not compatible with this and crap like that..... I asked them the battery they use for STUDIO XPS 1640 and they said that 1640 comes with a 9-cell battery too..... What can i put into their brains so that they will ship me one?????

Another question: Does the 6-cell battery of the 1640 support the 1645????

Just buy it yourself through this link....
I don't know why you need customer care to buy a battery?

Well I was wanting a laptop with some power and liked the design of these XPS 16s so ordered one out of the outlet last night. Needed something powerful to run some VMs for SharePoint/.NET development.

After some research guess I need to request the 130watt adapter.

Seemed to have everything I wanted except I need to swap out the 4gb RAM to 8gb. Hopefully $1289 sticker price was fair. Seemed like it was with the SSD drive. Can't wait to try it out.

Hi everybody, just received my XPS 1645 just few days ago, and need some advice on a problem.

This problem is just bugging the crap out of me. I have my usual sites i check up on for daily news. This one happens to be a mmorpg news site for the latest online games. http://www.mmosite.com/
This site drives up my cpu usage from about 3% idle, to 20-25%. On my old laptop it went up to about 77%. Regardless, my old laptop can surf that site smoothly.
But on this new XPS I keep getting lagging/throttling effects. Its not a throttling issue, but i get sloppy slow effects. Example, I scroll down it takes a 30 seconds until it registers and scrolls down the page. Anyone know what this issue might be and how it could be solved. Im afraid doing any other intensive cpu resource hoarding will give out the same effect. Can this be tested?

I dont know what are the symptoms of throttling but my friend who got his laptop yesterday installed assasin's creed. After playing for a while, the system heats up and the game turns all wierd with graphic glitches here and there. Is that a symptom of throttling? He's on the 130w brick adapter btw.

If its almost as thin as the 90W adapter, its the slim one, no ? and yea, that is throttling ... the graphic glitches is throttling.

Ok so finally after tinkering for 4 hours i found the problem.

Not being use to the 1080p widescreen, the letters and pictures and overall site seemed too small to me. So i have the firefox app Nosquint to set me zoom views at 120%. Apparently the sites that me and Alchemist mentioned are not compatible to this view and can only be viewed at 100%. I find that kinda stupid, have no idea why that is, and now im stuck with small letters and pictures. If anyone can confirm this at the mmosite.com and try zooming in and out to see if it gives any sluggish slow issues, that would be fantastic.

    m1ntz,

I don't think there is anything wrong with you, the machine, or the browser. I think that that particular site overwhelmed me with Flash.

Fire that site up with No Script and Flashblock, and it works great; no matter the resolution.

Is it possible to make quickset not control the keyboard at all? I hate the little A box that pops up and it's giving me problems while I type, I press the button too fast for it to register sometimes and it lags and stops typing. without quickset installed this doesn't happen. It's very very annoying.

Sorry to burst your bubble man, but it is definitely an intergrated part of the motherboard in these laptops.

Some graphics card are swappable like possibly in the 1647s but definitely not in the 1645s.....

So stop arguing with people on something you are clearly wrong about.

    Hi all,

I had two xps1645s and sent both back (many issues from shaky bases to screen going blank when unplugging power to downloads or recording - laptop still went to sleep during those tasks! to SSD freezing, hard freeze)

Anyway, I am getting a full refund which makes sense for me since I bought in OCT so a full refund will be a few hundred more than what it costs to build the same today.

    Few things

    1) I was looking to Sony or a rival but amazingly, there is jack out there to compete with the XPS1645, Sony F series gets poor reviews for audio and screen - is there a true competitor to the XPS1645 (don't say envy)

    2) If I was to try the XPS1645 again, it now doesn't come with a BLU-RAY Burner so essentially tech. is going backwards on the XPS line, from I7's to I5s and from Blue ray to DVD. I know I can still get the I7 but does anyone know why they have dropped the BLU-RAY burner? I have been waiting the last two months for the option to re-appear, isn't happening

I figure I should hold tight till summer and maybe something will come up, not eager to try Dell again, poor workmanship and support but some of the best configs period, HP and Sony a joke compared to yesteryear in terms of config. for high end media laptops.

    Any advice...appreciated

Well it's official. This laptop as shipped SUCKS!

Locked 5 times since I got it last night. Uninstalled Soundblaster stuff as recommended and now I got no sound, can't open sound properties and Firefox locks up when trying to play a Youtube I assume due to the sound problem.

I know I need to rebuild, but I am not ready yet and I shouldn't have to.

EDIT: Now after another reboot the sound is back.

Just wondering, with everyone who has 1080p resolution, how can you stand the small size of everything. Especially when surfing the net, everything is miniature. Unless your zooming or using add-ons to make it better. If so which ones are you using

You've uninstalled Soundblaster which is the bogey software on this system (and really doesn't do much for sound). Now install the newest IDT drivers from this thread. The freezes in FF are not caused by the sound but the flash player. Uninstall your flash player and install the Flash Player 10.1 Release Candidate from here (Official 10.1 should drop soon, but these are good). Hope that helps.

Uninstal soundblaster, if u hav no sound now reinstal IDT audio driver from the dell downloads site.

And to fix the youtube freezes update the direct x drivers http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...010_redist.exe

Check out this thread for all the latest drivers

    @E.D.U. & JKleiss

Thanks for the info. Flash works again now that the sound is back. I'll probably update the drivers, but I am trying not to do to much. I just need to backup my stuff to another drive so I can use that drive for my clean install. Then I'll use that thread to install all my stuff.

If you didn't see my edit, sound came back after another reboot for some reason.

Most sites zoom. I've been doing that since I got my M1530 couple years ago and my sight isn't what it used to be.

That guy asked what n all are under the left speaker and i said the graphics card is also near the speaker..... I never said it is a chip or whatever you want to call it... No bad intentions..... Just want to get my point clear.

Just tell me.... If the graphics card is not a circuit or a chip then what is it???? I understand it is soldered into the mobo... Before that what is that part called????? :p :D

Anyways.... Let's just leave it there...... Cooleo!!!
