i am planning to buy a new XPS 16 with i7 processor
is it compatible with ubuntu or any linux os
does it hav any problems with linux
-
-
Is there any possibility to upgade xps 16 display on touchscreen, like new 17 model?
-
not heard of it yet but dont be surprised if the dell ppl incorporate this in future
-
At Step 2 there is no such link with Dell and bing cashback on it, that shows up. Please help.
-
It is before tax. I just got my Bing notification this morning:
Details
Dell.com Home & Home Office Store
Unit price: $2878.62
Quantity: 1
cashback $575.72
What a sweet deal.
I doubt it will work through your EPP. First, you cannot stack discounts or coupons using Bing. Second, it appears to only work if you let Bing take you to the Dell site and then order from there. -
I have tried everything but cant find the dell xps studio 16 cashback link...can you please post the link? thanks
-
Are you in the U.S.?
-
-
yes..that link takes one to XPS adaptors with 5-8% discounts only.
-
No, do not look at that middle column. I have said that before a couple of times.
Look at the column on the RIGHT side of the page. It looks like a vertical list of Google-style ads, BUT THEY ARE NOT ADS. The first one (at the top of the column) should be the cashback offer you want (20%). I am looking at it now.
Are you in the U.S.? -
i see one which is 10% off on ebay...nothing with 20% off
-
Then you must not be in the U.S.
-
im in mclean, VA. and the bing site says US on the top right hand corner.
does the link vary based on ones location? thanks -
I sent you a PM to try to help. It works for me also.
-
The Dell Studio XPS 16 should be above the Ebay one, at the top of the list under "Sponsored Sites."
-
I tried to access bing through anonymizer to make it believe that I'm from US and still no luck :-(
-
ok just to clear some confusion, bing cashback ONLY works in the us
-
Pardon me if this is out of line, but is the Owner thread really the right place to still be talking about bing cashback?
-
Technically, no, but the conversation diverted to that route and I am not going to let "wrong thread" concerns preclude me from trying to help some folks out. I think your eyeballs will recover from the strain of reading a few extra posts.=)
-
thanks! it worked with IE.
Since im doing it for the first time:
my laptops price is 3404$ (it has an automatic discount of $374) and so it comes does to $3034.
So if i understand it correctly I will get 20% or $606 in about 2 months? I ask because I dont see any bing cashback sign on the dell purchase page. thanks a lot -
I have a friend in us, but i don't want to bother him with this stuff, he will just send me the laptop.
What I want to do is just order it to his address using bing cashback, but it doesn't work... I'm using IE8, I also tried anonymizer (proxy) to make bing believe that I'm really from US, but nothing helped :-(
2athreya: what have you done? -
It will be 20% times the pre-tax amount.
-
thanks. But less the instant discount which is already on their site right?
-

i think it is sufficient enough to clear your doubts about 1066 vs 1333 RAM, as for benchmarks and additional info, i have added webpage excerpts as pdf files and mailed it to you.
Plz note that the performance of RAM's depend upon the CPU combination used and Latency, Overclocking, Motherboard Chipset etc., so according to me theres not much difference between the two RAM's for gen everyday use & medium workloads but these do make a difference when one needs heavy computing power such as video encoding, software pro's, high end gaming etc.,
As for your opinion that you like to keep up with latest/faster tech, then i advice you to go with 1333 Mhz RAM! and it solely depends upon your preferences.>!!! -
@ athreya
Hey i found the perfect webpage you needed:

To those outside the US wanting bing cashback, it will not work. First, you need a US mailing address. Second, they would only deposit the cashback in a US bank account. But it will work if you have both of those, but place the order outside the US [i.e. live in the US, but traveling abroad].
-
Yes, I believe the 20% is multiplied times the AFTER Dell discount price.
-
bing cashback will work with only INSTANT DISCOUNTS, any coupons will void it
-

I just found that dw5540 hsdpa is available for xps16. I would like to ask if it works in any country with vodafone network.Does it work with sim card?
thanks in advance -
Yes, but the Dell discount is of the instant variety, and will not void the Bing deal.
-
I know that it works only in US, friend is in US and I want to ship it to him, he can also pay it, but first I have to FIND the bing cashback which I can't even when connected through proxy so that bing thinks that i'm from US.
That's what I don't understand... :-(
Here is what I get:
EDIT: Just in case: if somebody would be so kind to make order through bing to provided address, please PM me...Thx -
I was trying that bing thing... went to SXPS with i7...and seen this:
HD+ Widescreen 15.6 inch WLED LCD (1600x900) W/2.0 MP, XPS 1647
So, with the lowest screen its a 1647? what the hell
oh ya.. here -
I should be getting my computer tomorrow too (unless dell has figured out a way to make "next business day" shipping take more than one day, which wouldn't surprise me at this point
) and am wondering the same thing.
I seem to remember someone saying they had issues with reinstalling soundblaster X-Fi MB after a clean install. I think I understand the benefits of a clean install, but are there any disadvantages?
Is there some comprehensive list of the drivers/etc that need to be reinstalled on a clean install, or are what's on dell's site and the disks that come with the comp everything? -
to be honest, nowadays, with the studio xps anyways, there isn't a big reason to re-install. i only removed like 5 apps, and installed my codecs etc, and i was good to go. I'm still rocking my Dell Win7 install, and performance is great, and it's troublefree. if you do re-install, don't forget to install QuickSet, that gives you teh onscreen display for brightness and volume control etc.
if youd like, when you get your comp, post a screenshot of the add/remove programs screen, and maybe your startup via msconfig. and id be more than happy to explain which app is, and whether or not you should personally remove it. ^-^ goes for anyone pretty much. -
Appreciated... i will post it asap.
-
jbartlettjr, do me a favor,
clear your cookies and Go to dell.com and check if you order the same exact unit, its price is $2878 like the price you got through bing.
Just seeing if this is true.....
Is Bing Cashback Costing Users Money? Sometimes, Yes
Negative Cashback from Bing Cashback -
cool, sounds good
-
I would like to know what expercience you guys have with the Blu-ray Burner in the XPS1645?
Is it worth the extra money or is it better to wait a little bit and buy in time an external Blu-ray burner?
Is the quality of this all in one burner less in the CD/DVD read/burn area against the Blu-ray ROM or isn't there any difference.
I rip a lot of cd's and this must go fast and in a perfect quality.
Looking forward to your reactions, thanks a lot in advance. -
thanks. I'll be taking you up on that offer too.
One of my main goals with a clean install would be repartitioning to have a ~150gig partition for the OS and programs and the rest for data (I have the 7200rpm 500gig HDD). Is this worthwhile, or not worth the hassle? -
Okay, just did it. For the same specs, and through Bing, today Dell quotes $2,918 before tax and $3,158.73 with tax.
-
jbartlettjr,
After clearing cookies what is the price "without" going through bing?
Thanks alot for your time. -
Okay, just did it. Exact same price.
-
The XPS 1645 sounds awful tempting. Does anyone know if it runs hotter than the Studio 1557 (which also has the i7 processor) for things like surfing the web, watching movies, etc?
I recently bought the Studioi 1557 and it runs relatively cool (just slightly warm near the touch pad), but I would like to trade it in for the 1645 if the running temps are similar.
Also, does anyone know if it is possible to set the GPU in the 1645 to run within a certain temp range, so that it will downclock when a certain temp is reached?
Thank you.
Mitch -
Man, over 3k before tax. What the heck do you guys have in these machines!
-
Same here.. i also ordered a 500Gig HDD.. i want just 100 GIGS for OS and programs and the rest for DATA.. i want the OS drive separate becoz in any case OS gets corrupted, you have to format the Drive in which the OS was to reinstall it..
Is there any way to repartition the Drive space without doing a clean install??(using any programs or softwares or windows CD)?? -
THE FUTURE(Technologies of COmputing)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
You can use Disk Management in Windows Vista or 7 to resize a partition without formatting. I also believe it can done during Windows Setup (not entirely sure though).
Myself, I don't bother creating multiple partitions anymore, I used to do it. Unless I want to dual-boot more than one OS. Otherwise I just keep one single partition and backup my user profile. Less hassle and I use all the available space effectively. -
Thanks...! yeah i'm keeping an option of dual boot open for future and i need multiple partition to manage my data well.. usually:
1 partition for Chess
1 partition for study related docs and data
1 partition for Entertainment(movies/photoes/music etc.,)
1 partition for P2P Sharing... etc like that.. you got the idea i guess?
I tried to manage all in one partition in my desktop but failed utterly.. ever since then multiple partitions are my easiest way of handling all my data.. it releives me a lot of hassels as i update my data regularly (daily basis as P2P and new Chess stuff)! so any suggestions can you give me or a better way to manage will be heartily appriciated..
THANKS AGAIN!
