    Hi Sackling,

when I purchased it as well, the bluetooth option was not available (in canada) but was in the US. When I inquired why, they said the system was able to handle it but couldn't explain why it could in the US.

I will say that you can see the bluetooth indicator on the front left edge of the chassis, next to the wifi light, so I would assume it should be upgradable - but I am not sure how "easy" it would be.

Perhaps someone can post the part number that came on their dell packing slip.

    Hi Sackling,

I bought my Bluetooth module off ebay, just arrived today :D

Here is the link to the seller who I bought it from:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160407261655#ht_5344wt_1165

I offered $15 and they accepted. Shipping to the US is free and I paid $10 to Canada which was the lowest shipping rate. It took a week to get to me.

    @zimmyntrn

I haven't installed my Bluetooth module yet but I did take off the bottom cover of the machine and it looks fairly easy to install. There is a slot for the module and a wire that needs to be attached.

The Bluetooth module that I bought did not come with the mounting screw :(

The listing said the mounting screw should be pre-installed in the laptop but it wasn't

EDIT: Used a screw from an old HP laptop, worked perfect!

My laptop has arrived, first impressions... Wow it is beautiful. The screen is gorgeous the speakers are nice and I like the keyboard. Friday is when I will have time to fresh install Windows 7 and put all on my software on. So at that point I will post pictures and impressions of the laptop!

mine showed up as well, very very nice, I'm super happy. Keyboard and display is perfect. I'm working on configuring it now. I did setup most everything. Shut the laptop down and replace the thermal paste with artic cooling mx-3. I'm going to get the rmclock setup and a few other programs to see if I can find the sweetspot. Also my system did NOT have A07 on it. I placed my order on Feb. 16th, 2010. Laptop arrived today around 4:00PM EST. Not bad at all. I did only get a 90W ac adapter, but according to what Bill was saying they might not need a 130W ac adapter with a 720/WLED/90W/A07 bios. We shall see!

Unless i'm mistaken I believe he was talking about the 1647. It has been proven with A07 that 110w from the AC side are being drawn. Therefore the larger adapter would be required. Unless things have changed in the past week. BUT i'm going to call Friday to request my adapter as well as hook my baby up :D

perhaps your right and I just read it wrong. I sent Bill a PM, if he can't help I'll just call and get one :)

I wish I could have gotten prosupport for IT for cheap. Considering I diagnose and fix laptops/desktops/etc all day long, messing with this isn't a big deal. I literally only ran it for 15 minutes before I swapped the thermal paste. No scared of the inside of this thing :)

Just wondering does changing the past void warranties? I know how to do it, but if something down the road goes wrong can they point to that and try to blame it on me? Or would that be covered in accident coverage plan which I have?

It doesn't void warranty as long as you don't break anything while your performing the task (thermal paste application). I did it before on my m1530 under warranty, the dell tech. came in, and didn't notice a thing. The paste can't really cause any problems to your laptop in the future, it's just a cooling agent. Just be careful not to break anything, which is pretty hard to do if you're paying some attention and have an idea of what you're doing (which I'm sure you do). :)

the only thing I can tell you to worry about is when you try to pull the actually finned part of the heatsink out, it has a piece of black tape that connects the fins to the top of the fan, gently pull up/out on that heatsink part. If you jerk it or pull to hard you could bend/break/damage the heat pipes. Otherwise its cake.

    Hi Ppl,

I know it may be the wrong thread buy, I too own a SXPS 16 with i7. So, just thought you ppl might help.

Until last week it worked like a charm. Then, out of all the madness in the world, I chose to update the Driver of my graphics card. The installation and everything else went smooth. But later when I started to play, I noticed that there is a BLACK AREA around the window. Problem description goes something like this:

    a) I installed the latest driver for my graphics card.
    b) Now, when I change the resolution of my screen (Say from 1920x1080 to 1200x720), it DOES NOT fill up the entire screen which it used to previously.

    c) I tried to un-install this driver and ROLL BACK to my previous driver, but still the problem persists.
    d) Now all games have to be played in this resolution, which brings a lag which previously I didn't have.

    Please help :|

No Bill said that 90W is enough for 1645 WLED and that only 1645 rgbled would get proactive recall of 90w adapter.

he did say though that wleds can still get 130w adapter on NBR or if you call - just don't expect them to call you.

    ahh that's what I thought.

I'd still feel better with the 130w adapter, just in case. I did load up the cpu and check it with throttlestop and it never did drop below 12-13x multiplier. It did get nice and toasty. I'd like to see if its possible to undervolt it.

my understanding is that intel's new chipset - the i7s don't allow it - but this is just from what I remember people saying back in the day, at the beginning of the throttling thread that you can't - also I am pretty people tried to undervolt the GPU and couldn't either....

but someone correct me if I am wrong.

ahh, well then. I didn't bother with rmclock yet, maybe I'll mess with it later.

my laptop keeps locking up randomly now. it's really irritating. I'm considering just doing a fresh w7 install before I bother calling dell and dealing with them. I'm not sure what the hell it could be though.

Hey guys just a quick question. I ordered my studio xps 16 few days ago est time is april 7th. Any way im not a huge computer person, I know basics and have gotten much better than I used to be. Once I get the computer is there any "bloatware" that windows 7 brings that is not needed? Also Is there anything to do to adjust the factory settings to make it better or would I be good to go right out of the box?

this thread is worth a read, I did do a complete reinstall on mine, it doesn't really seem any 'faster' for what its worth. I did remove the soundblaster crap because it apparently is slightly related to random lockups. Also disable the sleep power settings for your HDD if you ordered an SSD.

A number of people have had sound problems for various reasons.

For a few days, my 1645 thought that headphones were attached when they were not. Does your IDT control panel happen to report that headphones are attached?

That's probably not your issue, though. It might help if you could report more specifics about when you hear sound and when you don't.

Okay. When I go to the "playback devices" after right-clicking the volume control on the right inferior corner of the screen, I have speakers/headphones checked and appears as the default device. Independent headphones appears as ready, and ATI HDMI output says not plugged in. On volume mixer, on device, the speakers/headphones appear checked.

Right now there is no sound whatsoever coming from the speaker, except once or twice that it came for a second when playing a song but then went out immediately.

    should be speakers/headphones.

sounds like you might be having a problem with the speaker connections inside the laptop. Sounds like lose wiring to me or a bad headphone switch (ie the switch is stuck inside the headphone jack, so the laptop thinks you have headphones plugged in) I would take a headphone jack plug, and push it into both headphone jacks and see if your sound comes back. Maybe its stuck.

So just finished speaking with dell's technical support. Spent almost an hour! No solution to the problem. The guy at tech support told that the IDT driver is faulty and they (signatel) are working on a new patch. My system is thinking that I still have the headphones on and therefore speakers have no sound. He said that there is no solution to the problem now other than either doing a clean window install or waiting for the patch. Doing the window install now would momentarily solve the issue but he said it may was well happen again that once I plug the headphones in the system will think they remain in even when i plug them out. He said the new patch should take about a month.

    Oh well, any advice?

Hey guys finally got my laptop up and running. But I can't seem to figure out why TF2 and WCIII have these two inch boarders on the sides. Is there a new driver I need or setting to change. Thanks. (Have it running at max resolution but still stays in this border zone).

Did you verify that the machine thinks that headphones are attached? In the "IDT Audio Control Panel" (which has a black background, there is an image in this post: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5797005&postcount=24), there are images of jacks on the right. It was on this screen that my computer indicated there were headphones in one of the jacks.

In any case, my problem went away after a few days. One thing to try is to disable the service called "Audio Service" and then reboot.

You could also try reading through this thread for some ideas:

For TF2 change the aspect ratio in your video card settings and change the resolution. For WCIII I'm not sure if they have widescreen support.

Wondering if anyone else has this problem... The metal piece at the right edge of the palmrest that borders the right speaker grille is raised (maybe bowed) and not flush with the grille. Its not this way on the left side... Not sure if it calls for a replacement palmrest.

Thanks, yeah I slapped my forehead on the TF2 one, and the WC3 doesn't support it :(. Oh and one more thing. I kind of messed up my video drivers. The CCC doesn't open due to an "implementation" problem. Is there a way, to clean sweep the ATI files without messing things up. Thanks.

I had the same problem when I loaded the latest driver set from Dell over the top of the existing installation. The upgrade appeared to go well, but then the CCC program would not load with the same error as you have reported. It seems as if the new driver and CCC application cannot or does not uninstall or upgrade the previous version correctly leading to a number of corrupt registry keys. The problem was the CCC user application and not the ATI driver itself in my case.

I fixed the issue the hard way some time ago, but did not fully document the solution. From memory it went something like this.....

    - Uninistalled the CCC control center
    - Disabled the Startup service for CCC in the MSConfig StartupTab
    - Rebooted
    - Used RegEdit to remove all instances and keys related to CCC
    - Rebooted (But defaulted to the limited windows default display driver)
    - Reloaded/Re-installed the CCC Application program and driver

The problem was fixed and I have had no secondary issues or warnings and CCC plus the ATI driver are working perfectly. CAUTION: using RegEdit to delete so many CCC application keys and references is not for the faint hearted and I would stongly recomend a Registry Backup + System Restore Point be set before you start.

Would like to know if somebody has a much easier solution myself......
