Call them and tell them you are experiencing throttling with your laptop.... Most probably you will get connected to DELL CUSTOMER SERVICE INDIA.... And you tell them about the throttling and they willl ship one to you in a week's time... But the only thing is that they will take the old charger back....
-
Oh i see..well i don't mind them taking back the old charger..it'd be useless anyway once you've got ur hands on the 130W adapter..
but how am i suppose to send it back to them?
-
Can i know how to connect 5.1 home theater to lap..
I thought of giving through HDMI but my receiver is HDMI pass through..so no use..
Does any1 know how to connect from sound card..
it has 3 output...2 headphone and 1 mic? -
When the courier guy comes to your home to give you your new charger, the has an extra box to put the old charger.. And he ll take care of it.... You dont have to bother...
JUST TAKE IT AND GO... lmao....
But beware... They might send you the brick adapter... Ask them especially for the slim one.... happened to a few of the folks...
-
they have the slim adapter for the 130W ? I thought only the brick one was available ... which is why i wasnt planning on calling for it.
ROFL ... Just take it, and go! Russel ... classic. -
Yup.... Thats the reason everyone is happy and not complaining about it!!
But it is a little bigger than the 90W which it will obviously be, but way way better than the brick!! Even if you get the brick, call them and tell and i "think" they will send the slim one..... Ask the guys from INDIA who got the brick and got it changed!!
And dude do you have any idea where to get the ZALMAN in india???? want to get one... Or else will settle for the COOLER MASTER INFINITE NOTEPAL!!! -
This one might be new for you guys....Or the way I am going to put it it will surely be new
Anyways, as you should be able to see, I am from Pakistan and apparently the trend is a lot different here. We don't just go on DELL online customize and order (maybe because there isn't a DELL Pakistan). Instead, we tend to buy them off shelves (they happen to be updated due to some eerie reason). Now here is where the problem comes in....It is in contacting DELL support...These rigs come all the way either from USA, UK,Singapore or UAE. Now (I don't own a DELL yet !) I am unaware that what reference do you have to give when you call tech support. Is it that you call DELL support of your region only or is the DELL support is something like centralized ? If regional, then how will I know here was my rig made ? Does some number on the box say so ?
In simple words....how is it going to be that I take a sxps 16 off some shelf (whose birthplace is unknown!), come home, ring DELL support and ask them to get a 130w to me ??? (and have their 90w back so that they can ship it again with some sxps 16 and continue the cycle
)
See if you can solve this :confused2:
Edit : Do I actually have to 'ring' DELL ? Or is 'chat' a good alternative ? -
I don't think that's a real problem. Dell's operations are international anyway. The birthplace is the same: it's not USA, UK, SG etc... it's China (and most probably Dell's Xiamen factory.)
As long as the warranty is international, and you ask about this before you buy, it will be OK. I was overseas in Australia a few years ago (bought the Dell in Singapore), had a problem with the 56k modem, the guy came to my OZ apartment the next day to change it. It was shocking to me at first that this 'globalized thing' actually worked, but it shouldn't be surprising I guess.
You can check your details by inputing your serial number into a certain Dell website. They keep all your warranty info/your components.
Now the problem is which number do call? The closest to the shop where the physical product was bought, I guess.
The 130w power supply is now standard in newly built 1645 systems, last I heard. -
From the manual,

Setting Up the 5.1 Audio Connections
To set up the 5.1 audio connections:
Click Start → Control Panel → Additional Options. Run IDT Audio Control Panel. In the Jacks tab, there are three connector icons. Follow the instructions to finish the setup.
Click the microphone icon, select 1. Device: Rear Speakers, and plug your rear speaker cable to the audio in/microphone connector.
Click the middle headphone icon, select 2. Device: Center/LFE Speaker, and plug your center/woofer speaker cable to the middle audio out/headphone connector.
Click the right headphone icon, select 3. Device: Front Speaker, and plug your front speaker cable to the right audio out/headphone connector. -
just picked up xps 16 with i7 720, rgbled , 4gig ram , blu ray burner , etc.. for 1300usd after tax from outlet..
also picked up studio 17 with i7 720, 1080p B+RG screen, 4gig ram , blu ray burner for 1240 usd after thax from outlet as well..
since some members said that B+RG screen was better than rgbled on xps 16, i had to pick up both to compare them side by side by myself... will keep one of them hopefully....
unless these glassy screens make me wanna throw up, i really wanted anti glare RGBLED from dell precisions =(, oh well in worst case i will return both laptops and take a plunge with precision m6500 .... -
Yea, this is completely new ... if your going to 'pick it off a shelf' (hopefully after paying
, kidding) then it means its being re-sold. literally. like the shop you bought it from, had actually bought that laptop somewhere else ... and is selling it to you. So im completely unsure of how the contacting Dell process is going to happen, im not even sure if they will service your laptop, because in their records, its the shop people who own it ... right ? I dont know how the system works there. but from whatever I know, I do have a small piece of advise ... that if you really want to buy it ... you can always buy another, non Dell 130W adapter as long as your BIOS is updated. Hope that helped.
-
Just use your service tag in the chat - and I am sure they will direct you.
It shouldn't matter that you bought it from a store. You can buy dells at walmart and futureshop in Canada, and the ownership is transfered to you upon the sale. So really it shouldn't be a problem.
You could always call customer support because all dell's support is in India (or most) and there is a "Special" center for XPS systems. -
Chat is fine.
If you buy it off the shelf, it should have come with a receipt.
Choose a country from the list at this link:
http://support.dell.com/support/top...etail_landing_page?c=us&l=en&s=gen&~ck=anavml
Register your product, make sure that you have your service tag.
Request your 130 Watt adapter via Chat. Point them towards this page:

Good Luck
-
Thanks a lot guys. One other thing. Is it possible to know from some number on the box that where was it bought from ?
-
Thanks very much...i never thought i could reconfigure mic to some other speaker output...How noob i'm
-
OMG OMG OMFG OMFG
Until yesterday, I was checking my Dell Order Status, it was for 24th March. I was pretty happy. now I see its for 5th April. ?? -
Where can I put in my product number to find the place wjere the laptop was bought from ???
-
ATI 4679???
-
Altairahmad,
I'm assuming that you had bought this from someone, if so; I would call Dell and have them transfer the information for you. Contact the person that you received the laptop from to help you in obtaining that information.
If it's a new purchase, that is somebody bought it off the shelf, then there is a good chance that it was never registered.
Enter your service tag, as a new retail owner at the links that I had provided earlier.
Either way, it will still be covered by the manufacturers warranty. -
Hi everyone.
Wanted to update a few things here:
1. Received my Zalman NC2000 from Newegg.ca today, and boy is it sexy!!
2. My Dell XPS 1645 ordered March 11th and slated to receive April 19th was shipped today!! I was shocked when I received the e-mail notification!
Now I just hope they sent the slim 130 watt adaptor and not the brick one. Has anyone else who received this laptop recently with the 130watt by default (i.e. you never had to call because they automatically shipped it with the laptop instead of the 90watt) received the brick or the slim adaptor?
Thanks again for your help!!
A very excited Groovyfa -
ok ok..Checked out..typo..
-
I would love to hear back from your reviews.
Out of curiosity. When you order from the outlet isn't there a 15% restocking fee? is there any way to avoid it? -
sadly comparison wont happen =(
dell cancelled my xps16 order , i have no idea why
tried to talk to rep on phone but they kept me transferring to different people like 10 times b4 i lost patience and hung up.
I guess they didn't wanna sell loaded xps for cheap. -
soe letters i keboard do't work!!! as tis appeed to aoe before?
-
getting my laptop today as per the automated Purolator call!
-
Is dell shipping those B+RG screens from their outlet on melmak?
-
Can u explain ur problem in detail..
becoz i have ordered 1645 in india..its been 2 weeks and still i have'nt got it.. -
has just installed Crysis warhead on my xps 1645..
but i'm too scared it'll overheat and throttle during gameplay..
i can't wait to get my hands on the 130W adapter and upgraded bios to A08 =(
and they don't have the dell technical support here in Indonesia, so crap! =( -
nmpraveen,
I order xps16 from dell outlet, it comes with very good config and i got it for very cheap price. but later they cancelled the order, which I saw on my order status page. I might just look for similar config again later.. but its so much hassle to find right config from outlet inventory... -
Question :
Without 130W but with notebook coller + A08 upgrade....will it throttle playing crysis at high ??
And is it true what Dell says that some users will not need to a 130W adapter after they update their bios ?? -
Altairahmad,
Guaranteed to Throttle Playing Crysis without the 130 Watt adapter.
If you do not game, or have your screen on high, you should not need the 130 Watt adapter.
Save yourself the grief. Get the adapter. No Question. -
Well, I received my laptop today and they sent me the 90 watt adaptor AFTER confirming prior to shipping that it was being sent with the 130 watt adaptor.
Damnit I'm mad. I can't believe the level of stupidity this company shows, especially with the 50 minutes of being transferred to over 20 different people to get the damn problem rectified.
WARNING TO ALL: They are obviously not shipping with 130 watt adaptors as they have promised. You will need to search on the dell website for the part number to verify what wattage it is as it doesn't clearly mark it anywhere. -
Is it at least cooler than b4 though? since the bios is now A08...?
or the problem still occur if you have not change the adapter to 130w?
and is it alright to use any 130w as long as it's compatible? or does it have to be the one from dell?
i really want the slim 130w if there is one, dont want the bulky 130w one =( -
It is actually hotter than before as the throttling limit has been raised for the CPU and now the GPU throttles... There is a sperate thread about the new problems.. GO check it out...
1. GPU throttling : http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=462786
2. Heat vent Issue : http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=460540
It still throttles big time if you have the 90W... You will need the A07 or A08 and the 130 W to experience no throttling. But after 30mins of gaming you GPU will start throttling....
They usually send you the Slim 130W adapter.... If they send you the bulky one call them and they will replace it for the bulky one....
I hope that answers your questions....

I would like highlight the issue i found on the below thread after updating the Bios to A08 on XPS 1645
http://en.community.dell.com/forums/t/19281775.aspx
Please suggest should i upgrade the BIOS to A08 or A07 to use 130W adapter as at present i am having A03 BIOS version. Will the same case happen to me
:confused2:
-
Neva heard of this issue before.... Another one affecting some of the people i guess.... But i have upgraded to A07 and so have the rest of the world and there is no problem in that version.... Update to A07 if you think that the A08 is not safe..... I will update after confirmation of this issue....
A07 is absolutely safe.... Best thing to do is call CUSTOMER CARE and make them install the BIOS upgrade in your system... And hence if anything goes wrong you can blame them..... and get it repaired.....
-
Does that mean if we upgrade they wont repair?
and one more thing (dont know if this has been discussed previously)
In indian website, for S-XPS 1645,they have option for 2 kind of adapter..that is 90 and 130W..but when i ordered there was only 90W..
so can i have free replacement? or should i pay and get 130W.. -
Dude.... Just call tech support and tell them that you have recieved the 90W adapter and have upgraded the BIOS to A07 and you are experiencing throttling. They will ship it to you free of cost... But you have to give old adapter back... It is a replacement program in INDIA unlike US, where they shipped it without asking the old one back....
If they dont do it free of cost....... MAKE SOME NOISE.....
As far as i knw they will do it free of cost.....
-
this didn't happen to me..
i upgraded my Bios to A08, and the eject disc button still works fine =) -
dude, if my country for tech support isn't on the list, what should i do =(
i'm from Indonesia, should i call the closest country to mine? e.g Singapore
will they still ship it to me?
if they do, i'd have to send them back the old adapter through what? -
Hope everything goes well..Ill update when my lap comes..
-
Thats the bios for the 1640 LOL
-
That would annoy me to no end

Got a refurb XPS 1645 in immaculate condition and flawless screen in on Monday. While scouring the outlets for my bud who wants a B+RG 1747, I just couldn't pass up the ridiculously good price that I have yet to see again on the outlets. Ordered Thursday and it shipped friday. Free S&H.
i7-720QM, RGBLED, 4GB 1333, BT, DVDRW, Backlit KB, Merlot Red / leather, 5300, 9-Cell. You know all the standard Studio 1645 goodies sans a BR drive.
I already had a 150W PA-15 adapter here. The refurb shipped with a 90w which I'll be getting replaced with a 130w.
Unit came with A03. I updated to A08.
Installed a 920XM w/ MX-2 (no curing time vs. AS5). Works fine.
Immediately replaced the stock compound on the GPU which, as always, looked like it was sprayed on with a fire house with MX-2. Actually found the 3rd retention screw on the GPU to be loose.
Clean install of 7 with newest drivers (newest defined as when able, getting from from the OEMs) and 10.3 Cat.
Played WoW for a few hours no problem (native res, all details to max except shadows). CPU routinely spiked and stayed at 65w in player dense scenarios (Onyxia 25, VoA 25, Dalaran). Temps never went over 77 for the CPU or 74 for the GPU. Lower left screen, as reported gets very warm but you can put your hand on it no problems and hold it there. I'm not really worried.
For those that suffered with World of Warcraft on the 3650/3670, the 4670 is like night and day. Great performance and frame rates versus with the 3650 having to ramp things down to 1440x900 and/or dial back details. I still chide my bud with his 1737 and RGBLED when he plays WoW (I've been scourin' the outlet for a 1747 B+RG for him).
Comparisons to the 1747?
They feel like they weigh the same. The 1645 is really dense, whereas the 1747 has a roomier, hollow feeling. This thing feels like a lightweight 17" laptop. Construction is pretty on point and solid. Merlot red looks hot.
The 16" screen feels more like a 17" compared to my old M4400 which was a 15.4" LED but felt smaller screen wise. Of course the 17.3" is pretty spacious.
RGBLED is, as always, insanely beautiful except for the need to calibrate those reds. B+RG is a bit toned down IMHO and more neutral. I actually prefer the B+RG. You trade off the RGBLED's extra richness for much better calibration and lower icc profiles needed. 90% gamut vs. 100%+ eh.
As always the 300+ nit screen can overcome just about any lighting situation. The RGBLEDs can get intensely bright.
The 1645 does feel like a denser, compact luxury version of the 1747. The thinness of the front palm rest/bezel is actually nice after a couple days use and gives the impression of typing on a keyboard with its low profile.
Oh yeah, it's a fingerprint magnet but that's no problem. I'm there to use the computer not worry about fingerprints.
1645 doesn't have the 1747's sudden extreme ramping up of the fan that many 1747 users have complained about. The fan never really bothered me on the 1747.
Only two minor complaints are it shipped with A03 and a 90w PSU (readily fixed) and no USB ports on the right side. -

LOL.... I would have to remove it and order another on ebay. $3 fix to save your sanity.
-
There's a USB port on the right side. It's labeled 'esata' but there's also the usb logo beside it.
