Everything has been excellent on my 64 bit m1330 for a long time now, but all of a sudden I am having an issue with a driver. For the MAT****A DVD+-RW UJ-875G ATA Device, the device manager device status appears as:

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

The drive letter no longer appears in Windows Explorer. When I try to check for new drivers, it just says that the driver is up to date. Any advice on this?

    Edit: I got it working again. I found a solution in which you edit the registry listing: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11*CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

I deleted the upper and lower filters, then restarted the computer, and the dvd drive shows up again.

trebuin first and for most THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your step by step was like a Bible to me in installing 64-bit

The only problem is that the biometric reader site is down......the official site told me that they couldn't give me the 64 bit version and the rapidshare site says that due to copyrights or something it has been removed from their servers :(

Know where late bloomers in the 64bit install can go??

I'm going to set up something that will enable us to download it. I'll probably end up digging the old driver link I used to provide and direct you to install that. From there, you can use explorer, and explorer only to download the current drivers.

AT FIRST the first one didn't work (IE or FF3)

I used to second one and got an excellent install

Here is the wierd part: after I installed I clicked on the first link by accident (with FF3) and it worked

    :p

Either way THANK YOU Trebuin!!!!! I have my computer 100% with 64 bit thanks to you :D

EDIT:::: Firefox people remember to get the FF3 plug in!!

I should have been more specific, by installing the file from the second link, the first link will then work. The first link is an update link and it checks to see if the program is installed. That's why it worked the second time you visited this.

thanks for this thread, just got my copy of vista ultimate 64 yesterday and the install went well, the only issue i have was the drivers for the video. Kept getting errors with the laptopvideo2go drivers. So i just googled it and found someone else that had the same issues just used drivers from another dell I think vostro 1500 not sure but everything working 100%. I don't really have many 64bit programs but the computer itself seems snappier and my web browsing seems after also. thanks everyone for there post.

I'm sorry if this has already been asked but I am a complete rookie at trying to install vista and all these drivers. I built a pc SEVERAL years ago but forget most of the install process because someone helped me out with that. I just bought an XPS M1330 with the following specs: 2.5GHz, 4GB Ram, 128GB SSD, GeForce 8400M, Intel Wireless N mini-card and Sound Blaster Audigy soundcard.

I have a couple questions. First, have any of you removed the media direct partition when you do the re-install? How hard is it and does it mess anything up to not have it on the computer? Second, what is the recovery partition? Is that something dell did and I will remove during the re-install or is that necessary? And finally, where do I find all the right drivers? I saw the links on the first page, but how do I know which ones apply to my computer and the specific components?

Any help would be greately appreciated. I am just coming back to the Windows world (from Mac) and really want to get Ultimate 64 bit working.

    Thanks in advance!

I kept the media direct partition because I don't want to deal with accidentally hitting the media direct button with the system off. It doesn't do damage unless you try to fix it the wrong way. It basically changes your partitions around, corrupting all data. If you happen to hit it again, it changes your partitions back...un-corrupting all data provided you didn't try to change anything (I'm guilty of this). I found the easiest solution is to just leave the partition, and use it for extra storage for docs and whatnot. Currently, some of my boot stuff lies on that partition as well.

It stays this way until there's an option to totally disable that button, which there might already be, I just haven't looked around.

I cant seem to be able to put Sound Blaster Audigy Advanced MB back on the laptop. I know for a fact it was installed when i got it with Home Premium 32 bit

It keeps saying Audio Drivers not found when i know for a fact i downloaded from dell website and installed.

I installed Vista 64 bit Ultimate

    Any ideas?

Yes. The Audigy software WILL NOT work in 64-bit. Problem is you need to request Dell to provide the 64-bit version since Creative does not support it. This is the main gripe for those who shelled out the extra chump change for MB and then converted over to 64-bit.

Not as easy as i thought

We do not have media that is listed specifically for 64 bit. Many of the Creative drivers work with both 32 bit and 64 bit versions.
    11:18:50 PM Agent XPS_David_157337
Do you have the Sound Blaster disc that came with the system?

David obviously doesn't know what's going on. There is no 64-bit compatible software available for the MB. We have been asking Dell to provide some for months now. The disc that is shipped with the notebook is 32-bit only.

The person i spoke with via chat provided me with this link:
    http://support.creative.com/Product...ED MB&subCatName=Audigy&CatName=Sound+Blaster

Which seems like something "that would work" but it obviously doesn't.

So the way i see it the only alternative is to get the SRS thing from the first page?

SRS doesn't have the same features, it just enhances the audio giving a more realistic sound to your notebook. AudigyMB gives adds EAX which realistly only provides sound enhancement for Games (echo effects, tunnels, ect). EAX also provides this over windows, but I have never used anything other than "living room" so SRS actually will give you more here.

I heard that the remote control that comes with the computer has drivers. Does anyone know anything about it and if there are drivers needed, do they come in 64 bit versions? Also, I have been looking for 64 bit drivers for the external modem that you can get with the 1330 (and 1530) but have had no luck. Does anyone know of such drivers? Much thanks!

Hi, can I be a total beginner and ask for advice? My m1330 is being delivered as I type, with Vista Home Prem. Am I right in saying that will be 32-bit? How can I upgrade to 64-bit and is it worth it? My basic specs are: T8100, 4GB RAM, x3100.

I reinstalled with Vista Ultimate 64bit and didn't need any special drivers for the remote. I have Dell QuickSet installed for the onscreen brightness and volume control so when you use your remote from a little further away you're able to see the volume going up or down.

    Should work either way.

My bro told me to put my computer in standby (sleep) and to slide the wi-fi catcher button. It lights up on and off. Supposedly its there to detect wi-fi signals without turning on your computer

    Makes sense

Thanks to all the advice given in this forum my Dell XPS M1330 Windows Vista x64 Ultimate clean installation went off without a hitch. Unfortunately, I've been forced to return to my original x32 system due to a number of important drawbacks:
    - I use this laptop for office work and our company network currently supports the Cisco VPN client dial-in for remote access. Since Cisco does not provide a 64-bit version of this software, I downloaded NCP SecureClient, which allowed remote access with a bit of technical support. So far so good.
    - Our HP Color LaserJet office printer refuses to download and install a 64-bit driver, and attempting to install the correct version locally to access the printer via a TCP/IP port doesn't work either. My only choice here as far as I've read is to install VMWare Desktop to emulate a Windows XP environment.
    - The NVidia Vista x64 version 174.74 is fine for overclocking via RivaTuner, but GPU temperatures are running around 10°C higher than my current x32 Dell-provided driver.
    - The total cost of purchasing licenses for NCP SecureClient and WMWare Desktop tops $300, which is a helluva lot of money to dish out just to make my system compatible with our office environment!

If anyone has any suggestions how to circumvent these problems using freeware or by modifying the registry or some other tweaks, please let me know! In the meantime, my x64 original system has been backed up to a separate hard drive thanks to Norton Ghost.

I'm having a problem with my M1330 Vista x64 when I close the lid. I have the power settings set to "do nothing" when I close the lid but when I close it I hear the sound for disconnecting a usb device and I'm pretty sure it's my wifi card (4965AGN) because my torrent downloads stop basically. When I open the lid I hear the usb connection sound and the wifi card starts right up again. I have also disabled the power management feature for my wifi card in device manager properties.
Has anyone else had this problem before and what's the solution?

    Help Needed Guys..

After reading the threads to install Vista Ultimate 64 bit, i convinsed myself to install it on my XPS 1530. I got the OEM Dell Vista Ultimate 64x DVD, but it gives always gives me a error while installation on "install.wim" file.

Currently i am having a Win XP Professional 32 bit..

After reading the threads i noticed that something to do with RAID/AHSI drivers or may be it requires to be slipstream... not sure.

I have already updated my BIOS to A09 version.

    My Laptop is XPS 1530, T7700, 4GBRAM, 320GB HDD

    Any suggestion or ideas????

Bluetooth comes with vista x64, however, it does not support anything. You can go to dell's site and they provide 64-bit drivers for bluetooth. I ran into the exact same problem with several bluetooth, thinking that I really had it installed. I installed dell's drivers and everything works fine.

What you're probably seeing is that when you add a device, it tries to install more drivers, but fails to find any. If you use dell's drivers, it will work then.

Hi there... i dont really have a great solution for you however i can give you the alternative for VMWare... Just check out the free and open source application called http://www.virtualbox.org/. It works great just as VMWare.

About the Nvidia driver try the last one 179.13. It is doing fine here. The glitch that the previous version had, was fixed so now your digital vibrance is stable. http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/
Moreover this version has a better CUDA support which the 174 dont even have it.

I cant believe the only thing keeping me from installing Vista 64-bit is the stupid Cisco VPN software!!! In order for me to access to scientific journals, library catalogs, etc off campus, I need to use VPN and needless to say I use it heavily. An alternative would be great, but my Google search on this showed no hope at all about a 64-bit compatible VPN client... Sigh...

Not too familiar with VPN and virtual machines, But could you run your VPN through a 32-bit OS run in Virtualbox? I run virtualbox in order to use some stuff on campus as well. Works right fine for me.

He could, but it would be a bit of an annoyance having two operating systems eating up that much disk space. I would recommend windows XP over vista in that case.
