I used my computer for several days with the pre-installed Dell setup, and yes, everything worked as it should. I only experienced this problem after I installed Vista X64 on my computer.
if it's not the Windows, could it be something I didn't install/install improperly when I wiped the hard drive? I have the latest Intel driver installed, also eveything that is on the first page of this post.
-
Quickset is now updated in 64-bit on Dell's site.
-
I installed the newest UPEK drivers from their website a week ago and my fingerprint reader seems vastly improved. I log on on the first try every time, unlike the multiple attempts it would take me with the old version. Still only supports logon though.
Drivers here:

so if i order the 64-bit home premium from microsoft, i just need to use my product key under my notebook and all is well?
-
You won't get the 64Bit version with premium (only Ultimate) but your key will work with the download suggested earlier in this article.

RE:UPEK
I installed it after uninstalling the lenovo UPEK software and I cant get anything out of it with the exception that it recognizes the fingerprint reader. I cant get a logon/off function or anything. Thoughts?
Was this just a driver upgrade to the lenovo software that was in there? -

Yes, you must have purchased a previous version over the internet with bitlocker (I believe) to be able to purchase as you directed me. I thought you were asking if you bought premium, does 64bit come with it...
-
I installed it over the Lenovo drivers. Works fine for me, but doesn't have the functionality of the 32 bit drivers. Here is the control panel applet:

I am having some troubles finding Vista 64-bit. Last I checked, it is no longer available on winbeta. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.
-
Hey guys awesome thread.. I installed Vista x64 on my Vostro but used the m1330 drivers for the ricoh media card reader... worked flawlessly.
-
Just starting today, all my 32-bit apps (IE 32-bit, Firefox, MS Outlook, Live Messenger) can't connect to the internet. Once the app tries to connect to the internet, a dialog pops up saying the app needs to be restarted..
IE 64-bit works just fine.. Anyone know what happened?
Found the issue: NOD32: http://www.eset.com/joomla/index.php?option=com_kb&page=articles&articleid=101 -
No prob with AVG Antivirus...if you are looking for another.

Hmm, the AHCI Fix doesn't seem to work for me. I did exactly what it said, and instead of bluescreening immediately, it bluescreened after about a second. I tried using safemode and it crashed at crcdisk.sys. By the way, I have the 7200RPM 200GB Drive.
Anyone know what's going on? -
you have to load/install ahci driver from USB drive before starting installation of vista 64.
-
Actually, thats true in some cases. I, and others, have been able to stop the BSOD by loading the driver after the fact and after a cold boot to prevent the BSOD.
-
Any way I could try that? Instructions?
-
Sure...do a cold boot so it soent bsod. Go to Dell or insert your driver disk in and install the Matrix Storage Manager (AHCI driver) Reboot.
-
Still says I don't meet the system requirements for it... Damn.
-
Ok...try this. restart your system and go into the bios/performance settings. Change AHCI to SATA and turn off disk caching two menus below that. Reboot and reinstall the driver. Reboot/back into bios and back to ACHI/caching/save and exit
and reboot again.
My life is sad when this all comes from the top of my head. -
Is there a way to integrate a x64 DVD with the dell key and dell activation files/cert that dell provides on their OEM cd? (it requires no activation)
-
Hmm, I already tried that, but for kicks I tried it again. The stupid "Does not meet system requirements" error keeps coming up. I have no idea why.
-
going off of that problem with crcdisk.sys, does anyone with my configuration (200GB HDD) and Vista Ultimate x64 want to send me that file? Maybe I could just get a new one and it would work.
PM me if you can help, or stop me if you think this wont work. -

My 64 bit vista up and running smoothly.....thanx to this thread !! repped u Trebuin...thanx flamenko as well !!
Just one tip.....don't forget to delete all system restore points....it took around 15 GB of my space.....!! -
Good stuff PV. Glad your up; you will find it much more stable.

Congrats to u.....ur tweaks thread has earned a place in my signature..... -
Wow. Thanks!! Now lets tackle the SATA/AHCI thing. have you tried to change it back in your bios? In order to change it back, you may need to change back the cahing option two menus below that first..simply a reverse of what you did originally.

Getting a BSOD followed by a cycle of restarts
Edit : oops....sorry to trouble u....I forgot Intel Matrix manager drivers....will do that -
BSOD is created through hot reboot. Shut it down and do a cold reboot, then you can install the drivers, now after the fact.
-
I'm not sure this was mentioned before, but the Lenovo Thinkpad T61 has the same fingerprint reader as the M1330. I just installed the 64 bit software from their website and it works provided I use the registry fix in the same software section (requires a reboot after you run the registry fix, be forewarned).
whether it's any more *functional* than what Flamenko included? Well, that's a different story. I'm still in the process of playing with it. -
Thats actually the one Treb recommended because it is 64bit. It will work only on the logon menu and does not assist in websites and programs.
Thanks!! -
Dell took down their 64-bit driver page again. I hate them.
-
-
Same here, I'll have to work on putting together every driver needed now. I'll have that in about 2 weeks for you all, plus the latest drivers.
-
Wow, cos I _just_ ordered a 1330 with a 64GB SSD drive and the Wireless USB card, and there's no way I'm going to find 64bit drivers for the Wireless USB card, right? Why on earth did they take down the 64bit drivers page?
However, the items all have stuff like this on the invoice:
1 430-2566 Dell Wirless 355 Bluetooth Module (2.0+EDR) $20.00
1 430-2692 Dell Wireless 400,Ultra Wide Band $40.00
so it seems like all I need is the driver for the Dell Wireless 400 card from any product of theirs that has it and has a 64bit driver available, right? -
with Dell BT355 or 360 64bit driver(i have both 355 and 360 modules tested), i can't connect bluetooth earphone although laptop could find this earphone but couldn't set up a connection(before i switch to 64bit OS bluetooth, the earphone could get connected in 32bit vista). anybody found a solution for this?
-
Can someone post the M1330.zip fil on a other server. I have lots of problems downloading it...
thanks! -
ethernet card 64bit driver update: 10.62.0.0 http://www.broadcom.com/support/ethernet_nic/driver-sla.php?driver=570x-Vista64

i now have 2 program file folders
Program Files & Program Files(x86) -
I'll try to find a better place for the drivers in the next few days.
As for two program files, one is for 64-bit apps and one is for 32-bit. This is normal and totally automated. Most of the stuff you use will be in the 86 folder if you need to find them.
Dell's 64-bit driver page is back up but still does not provide all the drivers. -
after installing the 64-bit audio driver, i randomly get an error message about my audio driver and thhe speaker icon gets a red x. then next thing you know its working again
-
I found drivers for everything.
Appreciate everyone posting. This is a great resource.
Wireless USB driver was provided by dell. Lots of stuff was picked up by windows update. I installed the fingerprint reader driver and software from IBM. I believe I got the Ricoh 4-in-1 driver from toshiba. The Synaptics touchpad driver is far superior in my opinion than the alps, I couldn't even figure out how to disable "tapping" in the alps.
My machine crashed once when coming out of sleep, and windows update told me it had a fix for me that replaced some acpi.sys and batt.sys files, since then I've had no more problems.
So, here's my remaining issue/question:
The only problem I'm having is my hard drive is set to ATA and I really want to set it to AHCI. I tried following the instructions where you select the drive for he specific controller, but when I do that I get constant bluescreens and have to go back to last known good.
Is there anyway to get this going once you've installed the OS? I don't relish the idea of rebuilding, and I can't really as I don't have the time to do all that until next year, but it would be nice to be able to do this.
Has anyone successfully after install switched the driver for the controller to AHCI? Instructions were posted earlier in the thread. If I hear someone has done that successfully, I will try again.
thanks! -

planet_vikram,
did you use one of these methods?
With the Intel controller set on IDE mode, go into device manager and locate the Intel controller that the drive is connected to. Right-click and select upgrade driver. Select browse my computer for driver software. Select let me pick from list. In the screen untick the box "show compatible hardward". Scroll down under the Manufactuer column and select the Standard AHCI driver and select next. This should install the Microsoft AHCI driver. (Alternatively, you can install the latest Intel AHCI driver at this time if you have it handy using the "Have Disk" button.) Reboot. Then go into the bios and change your Intel controller from IDE to AHCI. Once your reboot you can then install the AHCI driver for your particular motherboard. This is assuming you are running Vista, I'm not sure if XP has default Microsoft AHCI drivers available.
--- or ---
1) In some random install, you receive a blue screen of death, go into Bios and under installed deviced, look at SATA. If it says it is set as AHCI, change it to ATA. You'll have to disable one other device...it tells you...and then come back to this and disable it. Save and exit.
2) If you can boot now, you are running in ATA mode which is slower than AHCI (25 sec boot as opposed to 15 secs). This is fixable.
3) hit start, enter in the search/run "regedit" without the quotes.
4) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\msahci
5) Double click on "start" and change the setting from 4 to 0
6) reboot, go back into bios and reverse your settings. Windows should continue to boot correctly now.
7) INSTALL Serial ATA: Intel Matrix Storage Manager
--- or a variant of ---
ou can install the Miscrosoft standard AHCI driver from within Vista through Device Manager. In Device Manager select your IDE/SATA controller (in my system this was listed under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, and was below the Ultra ATA controller). Right click and select properties, select the driver tab and then and select update driver. Then select browse my computer for driver software. Select let me pick from list. In the next screen untick the box "show compatible hardware". Scroll down under the Manufacturer column and select the Standard AHCI driver and select next. You will get a warning that this may result in the device not operating if it is not the correct driver. I ignored the warning and it worked for me, but there are no guarantees! This should install the Microsoft AHCI driver.
Restart, and go into the bios and change your IDE/SATA configuration to AHCI. Once you save the bios change and reboot you can then install the Bad Axe 2 AHCI driver. Wait for Vista to install the MS AHCI driver before you proceed. I used the executable Integrated Intel® Matrix Storage Technology (RAID) driver (STOR_ALLOS_7.5.0.1017_PV.EXE from http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_ ... 2&lang=eng ). Just double click the file and follow the directions. After rebooting, the drivers installed and I had to reboot again. After the second reboot, Vista installed a driver for my Seagate HDD, and once again I had to restart.
which method worked for you? -
just found toshiba bluetooth stack works much better in vista 64bit than dell/widcomm/microsoft bluetooth stack, this applies to Dell 360/355. download link: http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/bluetooth/pages/disclaimer.php?dt=bts&download=3-64bit
-
I just posted another method in another thread with regards to this. No method is a firm and working method as it seems. I installed a new drive and the methods I had described previously, including one above...did not work.
I had to get the driver package and download it onto a usb flash disk. The driver needs to be the one that has aahci.inf and a number of others opened and not an exec file. It started as an exec file but created a directory (where you chose or in c:\dell\drivers)with all the files and DID NOTcomplete an installation routine in the system.
I then went into the installation routine and when it came to the screen which let you choose what partition to install to, click driver and install the driver from that disk. It will automatically pick out the correct driver as there are several.
Look at the last page of my "Dell Clean Install" thread...It may have been there. -
flamenko,
thanks, that sounds like the clean install process though, right? I already ahve the OS on here, and I don't have the kind of time I need to do a clean install and rebuild.
thanks -

Minimalist....this worked for me
1) In some random install, you receive a blue screen of death, go into Bios and under installed deviced, look at SATA. If it says it is set as AHCI, change it to ATA. You'll have to disable one other device...it tells you...and then come back to this and disable it. Save and exit.

5) Double click on "start" and change the setting from 4 to 0
6) reboot, go back into bios and reverse your settings. Windows should continue to boot correctly now.
7) INSTALL Serial ATA: Intel Matrix Storage Manager -
I understand but as Im saying, in some situations it will not allow the cold reboot/install driver method and i don't know of any other way around that. That is what i just ran into with reinstalling my 64Gb ssd.

What flamenko says is right......it didn't allow me to cold reboot....but then the above mentioned steps worked for me.....
