So after 81 days, I get a phonecall from Dell saying my order will be delayed (Yea, No $hit Sherlock ) as there are supplier constraints, I literally had 3 days of use from my first one before I sent it away between christmas and new year and my "fast tracked replacement" will be delayed and would I like to pick something else.
Everytime I see Unknown Number on my phone, I know it's Dell stating your order has been delayed. Despite the fact people who ordered a XPS 12 after I had mine picked up get theirs (in the UK) before my replacement "Fast Tracked" system comes.
That Microsoft Surface Pro is looking awfully tempting now, 3 months into ownership of the XPS 12 and I've used it 3 days and spent over 80 days in waiting for the blasted thing to arrive.

Ordered mine today, EDD of 04/04/13, seriously !
-
Running the "remove everything and install windows again" option did nothing for the touch screen, so I doubt it is a configuration issue.
Getting another replacement screen today
Btw, does anyone else experience high-pitched condesator noise when the AC power is plugged in?
Seems to disappear when it runs on battery. -
That would be coil whine. Most XPS 12s have it. Mine does even when the system is unplugged. My guess is that it has something to do with the power delivery system to the CPU or just the power delivery system in general because I can hear the noise change depending on load.

So over 5 weeks wait and still in pre-production!!! Have phoned Dell a few times now but phoned tham again yesterday as I was confused that they state that a component shortage is holding up systems but on the uk website the middle configuration which I ordered (i5,8GB,256GB) is showing a ship date of 6th Feb! i.e. tomorrow, the other 2 configurations were showing mid March. Before I pointed this out to Dell they said that the delay may extend to end of March or April!!!! He was lost for words when I told him my findings & was going to send an email to the marketing dept to find out what was going on??? My EDD is 14-Feb but I don't have any faith that I will get it then and reading this forum it will probably have some problem anyhow??? I was going to cancel and wait for the Lenovo Helix but just found out that has been delayed until Spring time...I think I'll make another decision on the 14-Feb if it is still showing Pre-Prduction...Its all so frustrating!!!

Well DinoDonis I'm in the UK also and I got my XPS12 after 5 weeks but had to send it away after 3 days just after christmas and before the new year and I'm still waiting for my "Fast Tracked" replacement.
Got a call the other day stating "They are no longer able to supply your configuration", would you like to choose something else. Well I was pretty much lost for words, the i5, 8GB RAM and 256GB HDD was still being advertised (and orders fulfilled) on their website, Aside from the 3 days ownership Dell have had my money for 3 months now and now they say "Whoopss, Supplier fault, choose a different one", simply terrible customer service, especially as the promised £50 gift card for my original delay never appeared and the customer service call centre denied all knowledge of it and then said we will organise a replacement as soon as possible. (Which was utter bull, as people on here in the UK have ordered the same spec after I requested a replacement, and they've already had theirs) and now I get a call essentially stating "Thanks for waiting, but you're not going to get what you ordered back in November"
HOPEFULLY though, I can at least get my replacement system without them cancelling that, they've "upgraded" me to the i7 version, so I'll see when it's going to come. If it's anytime in March I'll be driving to Ireland and chucking bricks through their windows as I don't plan on waiting over 4 months for something I paid for back in 2012. -
DinoDonis Has your order slipped past the original date?
Mine is still Estimated Delivery Date: 15/02/2013 (Order Date: 08/01/2013)
i7 - 8GB - 256GB
Not sure when you ordered yours. (UK also) -
I have been looking through the website, and on a number of other wesites concerning my issue, so any info on this would be great.
I recently got a XPS12 about 2 weeks ago and am loving it. But today I realized the lower 25% of the touch screen was getting rather hot. Normally the bottom of the keyboard gets warm were the battery and fan are located, though not overly so, unless there is heavy usage (playing some Civ5 or something). Typically though the screen itself doesn't usually get warm let alone hot.
I hadn't noticed it the heat before, though it could have been there all along. So am I just overly concerned about the temperature or should I be concerned? And should I do anything to test it to make sure?
Any info or direction would be helpful. Thanks! -

Maybe you guys should order via EPP. They seems to get it fast. Order mine and got it deliver in less than 15 days....
The EPP code is available google, can easily look for... -
I would cancel and order again, but the Top Spec XPS12 cost me £900, so while extremely unhappy with the way I've been treated, its just too much of a bargain not to wait. -
For those having screen issues this is what they are telling me. From what engineering has found from some of the systems that they captured from the field is that the eDP cable was cabled. This is the data cable running from the LCD to the rest of the system. They are suggesting that tech support sets up a service to have the cable replaced. so we will see if this fixes the touch not working.
-
And for the guy who has waited 80 plus days for a replacement, dell is obviously not treating you as a priority, if others are having orders delivered before you.
Why is Dell still taking new orders if they know people who ordered in dec/jan have no chance of getting their orders for at least 3 months? And people who need replacements just god knows when?....it's just all kinds of wrong! -
Quick survey, does anyone else have issues with the touchpad not working while typing, or shortly after typing or using a button on the side? I am currently PM'ing a Dell Cares Rep over twitter and would like your feedback to help determine the problem. They want to replace the touchpad where as I think it's driver related and replacing the touchpad will not solve anything.

I've scoured the first 60 pages of this thread and haven't found anything for my problem (or maybe just missed it), but
has anyone experienced constant lag spikes? When I am playing League of Legends, my laptop gets constant lag spikes that makes the game unplayable for 2 seconds. I know it is not my internet's fault because I can play with 0 lag on my old computer. I have updated to the latest wireless drivers on dell's website. Could it be some dell or intel software that's causing this? -
It's just a minor issue, but I'd like to know if anyone else did experience the same.
My xps works perfectly after cold booting it. But when I put it into standby (closing the display) and wake it up again the fan is running constantly although it's just pushing out cold air. It's not a sensor problem (checked that with hwinfo). After booting it up the fan isn't coming on till around 60 °C, but after waking it up from standby the fan is running at cpu temperatures around 40 °C.
Maybe anyone has an idea that might fix this. -
Bah, 20 days estimated delivery time for the replacement screen, from the "next business day" support.
-
Not much you can do about the integrated graphics GPU but there are loads of tweaks that can help a lot. Have you tried changing your screen res, also just search reduce gaming lag in google or YouTube there are lots of things you can do to optimise both your game and PC settings to make it more playable and less laggy.
Sorry if you know all this and have tried it all - it's just you don't mention in your post what you have already tried to resolve this. -

*Sigh*
10th of April is my estimated Delivery date for my replacement system....
To put it in context
Original order on the 26th of November, unit gets delayed until after christmas when it gets delivered on the 27th of December Thats 31 days
New unit ordered on 2nd of January after system becomes unusable due to faults after 3 days and replacement unit cancelled by Dell on the 6th of February Thats 35 days
New unit ordered for cancelled unit due to specification no longer available ordered on 6th February, EDD on 10th of March
Thats 70 FU¢KING DAYS
Dell expect me to wait a total of 136 days after taking my money for a product that I can actually use?
Am I being unreasonable here? or can anyone see a flaw in Dell's Customer Disservice. -
-
What spec was it ? -
-
-
What caused it to be cancelled of the 6th Feb? As I have ordered the same spec, unless they have updated the CPU?
-
No KingChris, they simply stated that they are unable to fulfil that specification anymore, No CPU update so far.

Same here i7 8gb 256ssd
I am emailing my account manager 'Deepack' every day. Hopefully he gets annoyed and fast tracks my order -

Anyone else experience intermittent touchscreen unresponsiveness?
It'll stop registering my touch input every once in a while. A restart fixes it, or sometimes it just sorts itself out. -
It is a fairly reasonable business choice Dell have made, decrease the options so it's easier to produce two SKU's instead of three, they can't get rid of the top end spec, and theres more margin in the i7 for a extra £100 than the i5.
Oh well, perhaps you'll get a email or phone call like myself saying they'll upgrade you "For the delay" and kick you right to the back of the queue again. -
Yes, get a call into Dell it won't get better... Lots of people are having screen issues... -
Very disappointing. The Dell is a very cool design, but it seems to have serious reliability issues, not to mention the customer service problems reported here.
Good luck all. -
Several times while I have been playing Civ5 in tablet mode the screen stopped working. I switched to laptop mode then alt-tabbed to the desktop and found that a pop-up window had come up (twice for my battery hitting the 10% level, the other because McAfee had updated itself). After I closed the pop-up windows the screen became responsive again. -
How many people on here actually received their XPS12 on/near/before their estimated ship date?
-
-
Yeah when did people order and when did they get it delivered? What's your spec?
I ordered on 4th Feb. At the time it was giving my spec (i7 8gb 256) as 11th March shipping date. On getting my invoice however the estimated delivery date was 4th April. -
I ordered mine on 6th Jan (i5, 8GB, 256GB), EDD 14-Feb so 1 week away & still in pre-production stage, how long does it normally take from production to actually receiving it? I'm in the uk....

I don't think production will take more then a day either. So if it goes into production on or before Monday it can make the EDD. -
Do you receive an email from Dell when it goes from Pre-production to Production? I'm getting fed up of checking every day only to be very disappointed ....

Ordered my i5/8/256 on the 1st February, received on the 6th of February
Im in the UK btw
edit: No idea why mine has taken just 5 days (theres a weekend in there too....) -
I'm in the UK to
i7/8gb/256
Ordered 14/01
EDD 21/02....(we shall see!) -
Regarding my non-working touch screen, I see in the event viewer that the touch driver is not loaded due to signing/logo errors. If I boot into safe mode, it works...
