Dell pulled this BIOS. This is rather unusual because usually they don't pull flawed updates, probably because they fear admitting sloppiness. In this case Intel admitted premature ejaculation. If you're not in trouble of some sort, just wait for the next update and a couple weeks more, so that potential new cockups get reported here / on Dell redit / on Dell support forum. Mind downgrading led to bricks in some cases, seems to have caused more trouble than the flawed update itself.

Nah, no trouble. What was the trouble with Intel? I didn't hear the news. Just received my XPS 15 the other day and it's still on it's stock version of windows 10. (other than entering the CD key to go with Pro) All I have done is get my USB drive ready to do the work on it. Serious kudos to the OP for making this guide and doing the research on the drivers. And if it so happens to brick, I have the warranty until 11/18.

Does any of you know the app "Snappy Driver Installer Origin" ( http://www.snappy-driver-installer.org)? It´s a neat piece of software for automated driver updates and (in my opinion) not one of this bloatware apps. I´m quite impressed by now but would like to hear if anybody has negative experiences with this.

read this recent article from the AskWoody web site regarding new Intel firmware patches:
https://www.askwoody.com/2018/intel-says-its-new-spectre-busting-skylake-firmware-patch-is-ready/
Btw, try this Realtek v6.0.1.8328 x64 driver from MS (106.8Mb) [posted January 2018; includes MaxxAudio software, Realtek ASIO and the crucial HDXMA7.inf & HDXSSMA7.inf files] - should also work on the XPS 9560 and other XPS laptops
supported hardware IDs for this specific driver pack (listed in package details tab of this download but check the INF files to see if your hardware ID is listed)
-
It's quite annoying that the Kaby Lake BIOS is still in test stage. Once it drops I'll add it to this post as well.
Also @epguy3, did you test the 8328 driver? -

Hey Guys,
Was wondering if you could help me make a decision. Because of some of the issues I have been experiencing with my machine, Dell offered to provide a full refund. I have a day or two to make a decision.
The machine seems to be running well now, but I continue to have issues with the 4k Display. It seems like these displays just suffer from back-light bleed problems. The end result is that there are tone changes in some parts of the screen.
If you were in my shoes? Would you take a refund and go with another computer or stick with the XPS 15?
Are there any other notebooks that you would recommend over this one? I use it primarily for graphic design, and 3d rendering. I don't really game much at all.
Thank you in advance. -
Post updated! So far BIOS 1.7.1 seems fine, 1.7.0 gave me 1 unexpected shutdown when sleeping.
-
BIOS 1.7.1 working like a charm.
-
The recent 391.01 Nvidia Driver is giving me a huge amounts of issues. Opening Windows Explorer, right clicking on cmd and running as admin etc. have multi second pauses. Persisting across multiple reboots. Rolling back to 390.77 fixes it.
This is the third time in a year Nvidia drivers have had terrible breakage for me (error 43, breaking multiple games, latency on opening apps). -
-
Because on my XPS 9650 it's working just great. Without any glitches and problems, no pauses, no reboots, at all. -

as well as the 6.0.1.8372 driver pack from Dell themselves (for the Inspiron 7472 & 7572 laptops but should also work on the XPS 9560)

Looks good to me!
I'll update the post with the latest bios, audio drivers, and GPU drivers later today. -
I just wanted to share that after uninstalling the Dell provided 8261 audio drivers and reverting to the stock audio drivers provided by Microsoft version 10.0.15063.0 I noticed a much higher volume output for headphones and noticeably better sound quality for headphones and internal microphone.
At first I assumed this was due to my Maxx settings, but I had all features disabled and had the Large Headphone profile selected while Maxx was installed.
I'm curious if anyone has noticed anything similar? -
Alright, all up to date. Should be good for the Spring creators update.
Integrated the newest stuff from the 9575 release.
Seems like Dell pulled the 1.8.0 and the 1.8.1 BIOS, since they both reset RAID/AHCI settings.
And also seemingly introduced keyboard bugs:

I see some new Killer drivers went up, anyone tried them out?

Do you recommend the Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework [A00, Mar 23] driver update that you have listed? [Version 8.4.10500.5526, A00]?
I saw some very recent comments from Dell Reddit (last month) to avoid it:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/7yhc8v/new_xps_9560_system_bios_171/
I am still on Version 8.2.11000.2996 -

Hi guys, new person here.
Just a note ref the " Realtek Audio w/ MaxxAudioPro [A02, installs Realtek 6.0.1.8372]" drivers.
On my machine I got a note from the fat controller saying that the "Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology (Intel(R) SST) OED" drivers hadn't loaded, I uninstalled the above drivers and loaded the current dell drivers "Realtek-High-Definition-Audio-Driver_HH8W2_WIN_6.0.1.8216_A09.EXE" and all was fine, anyone else get this?
And do the advantages of the new driver outweigh having the Smart Sound OED driver broken?
Oh and thanks for the info here... -
you to need to force update
Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology (Intel(R) SST) Audio Controller
in device manager to the same version as the one on the OED, otherwise it wont start -
Bios 1.9.1 out today.

TBH I can live with 3 seconds. -
I did notice, while the BIOS was loading, there was a new message on the screen saying that something was enabled, but I didn't catch the actual wording. I suspect that whatever that was is what accounts for the longer boot time.
While I know that adding a couple of seconds to the boot time isn't the end of the world, I admit to being OCD about things like that. -
Yes Dell keeping up with the usual ****e have fubard another BIOS, you need to load factory defaults to shift that message as it thinks it is in setup mode from the factory.

Is there a good reason to update the BIOS? To v1.9.1. Unless there are security flaws that have been patched, I don't want to mess with v1.7.1

Dell really has to get their act together regarding BIOS updates. This time, with 1.9.1, not only did I have to reset to factory settings, but I had to do it twice just to get my external keyboard - connected to the TB16 - recognized during pre-boot. What a pain in the ass! Seems to be the norm from now on that we must reconfigure the entire BIOS after each version upgrade.
-
BIOS 1.9.1 update is made reset of my settings and I had to setup everything back again.
-
So I guess we can expect another BIOS version (2.0.0?) to address another intel security flaw?
http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...rs-alter-or-delete-bios-uefi-firmware.815741/ -
Well, I truly regret having updated BIOS to v1.9.1. My external keyboard connected to the TB16 won't work until Windows is up, so I must type the Bitlocker PIN on the XPS keyboard every time I power up. Sounds like a small deal, but it's a PITA.

Did you try toggling the new MAC address pass-through option in BIOS?
