This looks familiar and something Dell won't recognice/acknowledge as a problem :D

"Ah, I see this is your first experience with the Modern Standby issue. Essentially your WiFi card or Bluetooth found decided to wake up, checked if they can connect to something, connected to it and woke the entire computer up. To fix go into Settings -> Device -> Power -> Don't connect to the network when sleeping -> Set to Always -> Reboot".

It's okay. Disabled Modern Standby via reg. So far, no real drawbacks, but at least it's not just going straight to hibernate (which completely kills the point of standby).

If I would buy again? I don't know. I still like the large battery and dGPU. Hard to replace both.

I still feel this new XPS is better than the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme. Your thoughts?

It's really a tossup, but for me I prefer the Dell:

    1. Arguably better looking design (really just my preference for sleek vs. classic)
    2. Better battery life
    3. American brand

For me, it was battery life and slightly lower price at the time. The X1E2 is still a tiny bit lighter (and larger).

I still like the KB layout of the Thinkpads better than my XPS15 (I still have a Thinkpad E485). Dedicated Pg Up/Dn keys, flustered Fn keys, and the fn-alt functions are better laid out (IMO).

Also doesn't come with Killer junk - ever. I've already removed the card and purged its drivers, but Windows Update still installs a Killer networking package onto my laptop. The trash just won't go.

I also feel the X1E2's 1650MaxQ is a bit more grounded in reality than a constantly throttled 1650... Even with just a quad core CPU, the XPS 15's 1650 rarely peaks above 1620MHz, and I feel it's just a bunch of extra heat for very minimal gains.

I'm probably forgetting a few things, but overall, I like my XPS15 and I'd be hard pressed to chose anything else, at the moment.

Does the Lenovo come with the Killer junk? For the reason you mentioned, I will ensure I don't get a laptop in the future with anything Killer in it so I don't have to deal with the stupid Windows update downloaded components. Even when I use the Killer Uninstaller tool to install the Killer blocking driver it still installs their crap from Windows update and the moment it does I feel my internet is slower.

Lenovo Thinkpads come with untouched Intel cards at the high end and the cheap Thinkpads come with a mix of Qualcomm and Realtek chips.

I replaced my XPS 15 7590's Toshiba 512GB XG6 SSD by the Samsung SM961 1TB which was on Slickdeals 6 months ago. Also switched the controller mode from RAID to AHCI as the NVME storage controller was not showing up in Device manager. With that changed I can now use the Samsung NVME 3.1 driver. I have not tested it extensively going from a modern Toshiba TLC to an older-generation Samsung MLC SSD but I suspect sustained writes (bigger than cache) will be better and longevity as well.

If you want to switch from RAID to AHCI, it is tricky as it may cause w10 boot issues unless you follow this sequence:
    1. install .inf version of NVME drivers if you wish to use branded drivers, not necessary if inbox drivers
    2. Prepare for boot into safe mode from the Settings/Recovery.
    3. As it boots to go to safe mode, go into BIOS using F2 (do not miss it). Switch controller mode from RAID to AHCI. Not sure if necessary to disable Secure Boot but did that as well.
    4. In safe mode, check the device manager to see if you now see the NVME storage controller.
    5. Enable Secure boot
    6. In non-safe mode use the full NVME driver installer in case it does things that do not get done when installing from .inf file.

It seems Dell likes to ship in RAID mode, my xps 27 all-in-one was the same way.

There is one objective major bonus on the X1E and that is 2 NVMe bays. I have 4TB of storage on mine as a result.

Another big one for me is a trackpoint. If Dell put a trackpoint on their precision model, I may consider going back.

Hows the battery life on it? Also would you say its superior to the 9550, 9560 and 9570?

How big of a performance difference is it compared to the i9 processor compared to my i5-6300hq quad core processor?

depends what you're doing. Coding/compiling... 4 hours or less with OLED/i7. Light media and browsing use with dark mode, 8-9 hours.

Hello everyone, I'm new here. Actually I have no idea which forum is best for having solutions for PC problems, like XDA for mobiles. I hope I have come to the right place.
So, I just bought the XPS 15 7590 i7 and although I already like the laptop, but the volume and sound quality of the speakers really killing me. So is there any well known solution for that to improve the volume at least? Please pardon me for not going through all 200+ pages of this forum. If possible, please point me to the right direction.
    Thanks in advance.

Does anyone else with the UltraHD IPS screen have display issues? I have noticed certain gradients will be blotchy on my XPS 15 but smooth on other displays? I have also noticed some issues where parts of video, especially things in the background, become blotchy and unattractive too. Again, if I watch the same file on my MacBook Pro, it looks fine.

Is it a colorspace issue? Is there some color profile limiting your display gamut? Are the Intel IGP power saving functions enabled for some reason (outside of panel self refresh). Is the player actually gamut aware (is it trying to output 10bit content via an 8 bit pipeline, unawares?)? These are all things a MacBookPro does well out of the box, admittedly.

Honestly, I hardly understand that. The computer only gives me one color profile to choose from. I know that. How would I check Intel IGP power saving functions?

I played around in the settings, and it's gone. I know I changed one thing to image quality vs. power. That may have been it. So glad my video files look good. I love video quality, and that felt like such a loss.

Intel Graphics Command Center->(on the left)System->(on the top)Power->(middle-ish)->OnBattery/PluggedIn

Inside of the On Battery tab, or both tabs, "Display Power Savings," and "Enhanced Power Saving."

Panel self refresh is fine to keep active, it doesn't seem to cause screen flicker in the 7590.

If I needed more storage, for me, the better alternative would be to keep the larger battery and add one of the newer portable external drives for storage. Western Digital and others now make 4 TB portable drives that sell for under $100. They are smaller/thinner than a deck of playing cards, and they get their power right from the USB port and, thus, don't even need an external power source.

Interesting, I have noticed the same thing but not really put any time into investigating it. In my case its a small area to the bottom right that is distorted when playing some videos, but have assumed its som kind of software issue as the screen seem to work fine more or less for other things.

Do you also have problems that the screen flickers on lowest brightness?

So, anyone tried the new BIOS and can comment on it? Based on Dells BIOS upgrade history, I am reluctant to be the first one through the gate :)

    Hi All,
I'm new here and have a new 7590 OLED i9. I've been using it for nearly 3 weeks now and I'm very pleased with it so far.
It was purchased to replace my ageing Thinkpad T420, mainly for college work but I also wanted something that would be capable of editing 4K home videos I've shot on my Panasonic G80. I've tried a very basic edit using Pinnacle Studio 23 and was very pleased with how the 7590 handled the challenge with no crashing during editing and a very quick render time to produce the final movie.
I also thought the 4K screen would be great for watching commercial 4K movies.
However having a slow Internet connection I've been limited to a few short trailers I've downloaded.
I've tried watching a 4k UHD Blu-ray but this seems to be too much of a challenge and the technology just doesn't seem ready for mainstream consumer use and from what I've read getting it to work reliably requires a lot of luck and very much hit and miss, I wonder if anyone has been able to play UHD Blu-rays on their 7590?

I play 4K Blu-rays with PowerDVD with no problem. You just need an optical drive that can play UltraHD Blu-rays. I played UltraHD Blu-rays on the 9560, so the latest XPS 15 is most definitely capable. That would be going backward, and I wouldn't have bought it.

Hi, I sorry if these questions are asked before but I wanted some advice.
I currently have the Alienware Area 51M, And to be quite honest, I've had it with gaming laptops. Especially since I also don't game that much anymore. I miss REAL portability, AND I do care a lot about the looks of the laptop too.
In terms of looks there are only 2 laptops that I really like.
Razer blade 15 and the dell XPS 15.

The razer blade 15 I tried getting, but it's a pain to get the US QWERTY layout in Belgium, and then the warranty can also be an issue if I end up getting a US version.

So I said screw it, since price wise it's the same I am now thinking about combining an XPS 15 With a Razer Core X Chroma.
I couple things I like about this is, Basically one cable to connect my GPU, monitor and peripherals, Maintain real portability, As I practically never game on battery, or on the go, and I have the nice slick laptop with the business looks.
And Dell has a lot better support than Razer + better customization options.

    Now to my questions.

Should I go for i9 or i7? price is not the issue for me. Temperature is the real concern to me. Does the i9 get hotter than the i7? Even with an undervolt (as I most certainly will do an undervolt)
Also, anyone else who has experience using the razer core x with the XPS 15?

Any issues? Is performance fine? E.g. I'd like to use an RTX 2080 with it, Will my performance be worse than the RTX 2080 I have in my current laptop? Which is a slightly weaker version than the real deal running at 180 Watt.
Also how about the Drivers? There is a GTX 1650 in the laptop, and the RTX 2080 through the razer core. which nvidia drivers do I install?

Anything else I should worry about this setup?

It won’t be a one cable set up I am afraid, when I tried this a while ago the xps would only end up getting 60w from the core and not the 100w it should receive. I had to also plug in the barrel 130w connector as well as the thunderbolt

    Hello All,

Black Friday is coming lads and I would like get a new laptop :)
    Thinking about two rigs, one is Dell XPS with I7 9750H / 16 GB Ram / 512 m.2 GB SSD / 1650 4GB and OLED display, the second one is Alienware m15 R2 with I7 9750H / 16GB Ram / 512 GB m.2 SSD / 2060 6GB with OLED display.

The first one cost atm 2000 Euro and the second one approx 2500 Euro, at Black Friday will be possible 15-25 percent discount, so leave me know with one I should get, and why, thanks a lot :)

    Kindest Regards

I was curious about whether those who have been getting the OLED display have had any issues with screen burn-in. I know that burn-in can be an issue with OLED panels on TVs when static images are left on the screen for extended periods of time, and I would think that, with a computer, there might be a greater likelihood that static images would be left on the screen for longer periods of time, and, once the burn-in manifests itself, it is likely permanent.

Samsung -which is the manufacturer of the OLED panel used in the 7590 OLED- has been selling OLED laptops for 5 years now, none of their laptops has had any burn-in problems in the past 5 years. So, the OLED panel in the XPS is NOT a new technology at all.

Knowing this should make anyone drop their suspicion, just saying!

Going to review my new 7590, got some questions.
Currently, I am using matebook x pro with dual monitor setup.

1st, does the 7590 support dual monitor? if so, what is the best connection method?
2nd, does it support 4k or 5k monitor? if so, what is the best setup?
3rd, I heard there is a dock you can buy for better cable management. Any recommend dock to buy for this laptop?
4th, What is the max numbers of monitor you can output for this notebook in 1080p or 4k or both?

    Thanks.

Best is too look up that info from Dell. If I recall correctly, the TB16 might have better multi monitor support, at least in theory. This of course depends on resolution as well and connection type.

It does depend on your TB16 though. Mine has been perfect since I got it (~2 years ago). Only issue I had was a monitor validation issue in Windows that caused refresh rates higher than 120Hz to flicker incessantly. After cleaning my registry, the issue went away and it's been smooth sailing since with the TB16. Since I'm selling my XPS soonish though, I'll have to sell it as well. Don't pay a lot for one, and get one with a warranty so you can get replacements from Dell as needed.

Well, I'd rather say the configuration decides how well it works. In a multi monitor configuration combined with frequent "hotplugs" it has been a nightmare, all which is gone with the new docking station. And if you Google it, you will see that I am far from the only one to have come to that conclusion. As an added bonus, you don't have to live with what might be the most irritating fan in computing history (and that's coming from someone who owns a laptop with a built in 1080 GPU and an overclocked CPU).

I used to have two TB16s, now I have only one after having smashed one of them to pieces. Perhaps not my proudest moment in life but I would lie if I said I regretted it. And I am usually not someone who smashes things on purpose.

Just ordered an XPS 15 7590 with i9 processor
Will need to undervolt it but what is the best program/method lately? I've read there were some issues with sleep mode etc?
Anyone can link me a good beginner guide please? Thx in advance!
Would it be a good idea to reinstall W10 also . I will upgrade the ssd to an 2TB EVO 970 Plus and maybe I can copy the partition with True Image or is this not a good idea?

What is the consensus/recommendation regarding graphics drivers for the XPS 7590 - stick with official Dell-approved drivers or use the latest reference drivers from Intel and Nvidia?

I use the Intel video driver from Dell and nvidia from GeForce experience on mine. Seems great so far!
