So I redeployed my drive image to my new XPS 15. My CPUs in device manager had yellow triangles. I got rid of the triangles by installign the "processor" driver. However, it seems my CPU's c-states are totally disabled. Any ideas, so I don't need to completely reinstall?

edit: nevermind was able to find my c-states by updating the CPU drivers to intel ones

    Returned my FHD, i7-7700HQ, 8GB, 256GB, 56Wh build that I paid $1720 CAD for.

Ended up getting the FHD, i7-7700HQ, 16GB, 512GB, 97Wh for $2150 CAD less $192 due to ebates and less another $107.5 due to Dell's cashback, making it a grand total of $1850 CAD.

Definitely a better deal than my first one since I'm doubling the memory, storage, and the battery size for the same price as a replacement 97Wh battery (which I was planning to do).

Compared to the first one I received, the second laptop has a snappier keyboard (first one was slightly mushy in areas) and the front LEDs are balanced (first one was noticeably darker on the right half). The only disappointment is that the new laptop has the Toshiba NVMe SSD compared to the Samsung one, but I guess it doesn't really matter since they're still miles faster than a standard SATA based SSD.

I haven't repasted the new laptop yet, but I was surprised to see how clean Dell applied the thermal paste to the first one. I ran a short P95 test comparing the two (w/ Turbo off) and the new laptop even without a repaste was only a few degrees hotter at the low 60s.

Other than that, my experience for both my 9560s mirror the experience I had with my 9550s and I am very pleased.

Anyone tried the new bios / drivers for the XP 9560?

I run Throttlestop at -135 for core & cache, - 50 for the intel gpu and disabled turbo boost. After updating all the drivers to the ones released on feb. 23 including the new bios, I feel there is a lot less/no throttling happening.

    Regarding the new bios:

    Dell XPS 15 9560 1.1.3 System BIOS
    1. Improved the DELL Thunderbolt(TM) Dock stability.
    2. Improved the System Stability During Cold Boot , Warm Boot and Hibernation.
    3. Improved the NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Card stability.

Anyone else tested the new bios along with the updated drivers for the thermal framework and more ?

Updated to the latest BIOS, but I didn't really have any issues prior to really compare.

The only thing I've really had to do was update to the latest Intel graphics drivers to remove the Chrome stuttering and update to the latest Killer drivers to remove the instability on 2.4GHz.

I have fans on a lot of the time now and the fans surge when turning off, anyone else notice this?

To make a fresh install of Windows 10, I had to go with AHCI Settings in the BIOS.

But right now, I'm having some freezing issue while browsing internet (I'm using Vivaldi), three freezes happened randomly during the writing of this message ...

I think I saw people having the same issue a few days back no ?

What do you think about it ?

Should I go back to RAID setings ?
    (I have the toshiba SSD)

I have toshiba SSD too. When I clean installed windows in AHCI, windows was seeing one Toshiba SSD as 4 different disks(disks not partition, disk0 1 and 2 with 0 mb unallocated, and disk3 was 3 partition reserve, recovery and windows), and boot took about 7-8 complete circle loading on dell screen.
Now back to RAID and boot completes i less than 2 loading circles.

I do notice the fans surge when turning off/restarting.

Anyone find that the nvidia hotfix drivers give you a code 43 error when installed? The card will be unusable until I roll back.

The stuttering is almost certainly due to old intel igpu drivers, you have to update them manually.

No 378.77 went on fine for me, maybe try DDU before you install?

Quick warning that the latest Chrome browser is FUBAR, I thought it was the fact I moved my SSD from my 9550 to my 9560 as chrome would lock up and writing in the text box would lag like hell.
Did a fresh install and SSD #2 and the problem came back before I logged into my google account!

Narrowing a search to 1 month reveals it is a new issue with chrome.

Yeah I just noticed that I accidentally installed the wrong drivers.

So now I realize that apparently, windows 10 and optimus cards have been broken with diagonal screen tearing w/ vsync in a lot of games? Doom has it, at least. Apparently there is no solution?

Yep it is missing or not a feature for this board. TPM and HDD for bitlocker but Dell don't supply self encrypting drives so it wold be software and use system resources.

We really need to start taking this BIOS apart to see what we can enable via the EFI shell.

Guys there is way to limit CPU TDP to 35W for better battery when on the go.

    Code:
    powercfg -attributes 48df9d60-4f68-11dc-8314-0800200c9a66 4a44b800-4f72-11dc-8314-0800200c9a66 -ATTRIB_HIDE
    powercfg -attributes 48df9d60-4f68-11dc-8314-0800200c9a66 07029cd8-4664-4698-95d8-43b2e9666596 -ATTRIB_HIDE
This will enable Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework settings for setting CPU cTDP and Power Limit.

With my setting of cTDP Low and Power Limit 1, I can have battery life of 10 hours with 4k touch screen and normal youtube/coding and brightness at 40%

Please try and let me know.

Chrome freezing is just one of many problems I'm having with the 9560.
Solution for chrome freezing is installing newest intel graphics driver ending 4590.

    Hi guys,
Just seen that my new XPS is shipping, -in the packing list, I can see that the 1TB SSD has the following item number...

400-APWJ 1TB PCIe Solid State Drive

Does anyone know if this relates to either a Samasung, Toshiba or LiteOn drive ?

    Thanks

It means a generic 1tb drive, best way is to pickup the service tag from the shipping docs and putting it into the downloads page, if it shows no firmware for SSD's you have a Samsung. Otherwise it will show firmware updates for the drive you have.

Yeah speedshift is BIOS unlocked, maybe that is why it wont work?

Any idea how to hide them again?

No, you can only specify specs for drives on the precision series, I tried to get a samsung and have a toshiba XG4 coming.

I don't have the 9560 but for parkcontrol hiding, I just changed the last few characters of each row from - to +:

    [+ATTRIB_HIDE]

    EXAMPLE:
    powercfg -attributes 48df9d60-4f68-11dc-8314-0800200c9a66 4a44b800-4f72-11dc-8314-0800200c9a66 +ATTRIB_HIDE

    Just received a 9560/1T(Tosh)/4k.
Has anyone installed a SED (self encrypting drive) such as the Samsung 950 or 960 and had the BIOS option for drive encryption listed on the bios security option screen?

There are entries for admin and system, but this is a separate entry that is not shown on my system. I believe the Tosh SSD is NOT SED capable, so on my system there is no line in the BIOS security tab for drive security. Would it show up with a SED capable drive?

    That did it thanks.

    No
Dell do not supply SED capable SSD's on the 9560, you need to spec one on the precision range.

As for the option I never had anything extra on my 9530 so I doubt you will get anything on this. Admin and system are protecting the BIOS and prompting for a password before booting whatever media, it doesn't lock the hard drive as you just take it out and stick it in a caddy.

You have to use bitlocker with a SED and to do that you also need windows 10 pro.

Hey I was wondering if the "Dell internal part number XDYGX, "Cable,SATA 7mm,9550/5510"" works for the 9560 too!!
I also wanted to ask if the 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD version came with 1x8GB or 2x4GB RAM.

    Thank You...

    Interesting, I'll try it.

I've found something a bit odd with my USB-C port. My Dell USB Type-C dock doesn't connect unless I first plug in another device in to the USB-C port, such as a mouse with a type-C adapter. Then it recognizes my dell USB-C trinity adapter (which is plugged into my HDMI monitor and USB mouse).

I think my Thunderbolt controller is borked and needs to be swapped. While my monitor and mouse are plugged into my Dell trinity USB-C dock my computer sometimes randomly shuts down and then the type C port won't work until I insert another type-C device, like a mouse. Then I can put the USB C dock in and it will work again for a while. The USB C dell dock works perfectly on my skull canyon NUC.

Dell sent me a replacement AC adapter as the original that came with the laptop had a Coil Whine I could sometimes hear from a distance of a couple of meters, it's an HA130PM130, date code: 1612. The new one is still HA130PM130 but the date code is 1611 and I can barely hear it with my ear on it. Now both the laptop and the AC adaptor are really silent. Apparently, there are quality variations between units of the same model.

Updating the Intel drivers as instructed here:

Will fix any stuttering issues. At least it did for me and everyone that's done it so far. Silky smooth after it.
