No but the drives are supported so long as you don't mind an additional password at startup.

So I think I fixed the sticky touchpad left click. I opened the base cover, removed battery, and added two pieces of electric tape between the trackpad and the dome click switch. Somehow that seem to help the trackpad bounce back.

However, I just found out that the headphone jack isn't working. Left side not working. Hopefully it's a software issue... Will look into drivers.

It should ask you what you have plugged in so it can use the correct connections.

I tried both headphone or headset. I'd select the appropriate headphone or headset setting, but it'd only play sound on right side. I could kind of hear left channel when the headphone is pullled out slightly.

Agree with you about matte screen. I running mine laptop (9560/UHD/16GB/512GB) for one week, I missing matte screen ... but ordered matte screen protector so i'll get rid of that glare very soon + I have external matte display - so not hurts very much until ordered screen protector arrival.

The one thing I can disagree with you - you're blaming windows about horrible scalling in "some apps" ??
Are you joking? Are you really developer/programmer? It seems like your knowledge just little above zero about how scaling in apps appear. Its not operating system draw apps. It apps itself arrange their controls e.t.c. Properly developed app doesn't have scaling problems at all... it just not scaled by OS ... it scaled (taking into account current DPI settings) by design ... . Please blame programmers who does apps even not bother about others who have higher than 92dpi displays. Bless to MS they implemented automatic stretch for that badly designed apps so we can use high-res displays. Of course you'll notice side-effect of that stretch - just like you zoomed low-res picture by scale-factor.

    You don't need C6/C7 states
As C8 - is replacement for those C6 and C7

Since MS built in their own antivirus - I never used any other

Whats the point then of this software compared to whats in the BIOS? Or doesn't the XPS15 BIOS support SED passwords?

It doesn't support any HDD passwords iirc. When this happens you are at the mercy of other solutions such as bitlocker apart from Samsung being utter tits and not including it.

The point of the software is pretty self explanatory, it protects the hard drive data :)

AFAIK it is the SSDs themselves that does the encryption but the challenge is to be able to control the password. I thought that the XPS15 could do this in BIOS like the Thinkpads, but if not, maybe I should reconsider.

It has BIOS and system passwords but I don't think it encrypts the HDD data?

Does over clocking the 1050 cause much of a temp increase? I'm curious what sort of heat increase can be expected considering voltage doesn't change.

Anyone playing the Andromeda trial on their XPS?

I got carried away playing on my desktop, and now the download on my XPS is slow because the preload just started for everyone that preordered. So while I wait I figured I would see what other people think. I'm travelling this week and need to play it on my 9560.

[edit] answered my own question. It runs great (for a few minutes) 1080p medium settings solid 60fps. I'll test tomorrow for throttling.

The BIOS has options for HDD and M2 passwords . Bitlocker works fine with TPM

Had some wifi disconnect issues when I tried to download a large game. I tried uninstalling the Killer perfomance suite and restarted my computer. I was going to update to the newest drivers on killers website, but before that I was curious to see what my internet speed was without KPS installed. It was 100 Mbps, and when I installed the newest killer drivers, that dropped to 30. I'm going to uninstall these drivers again to see if my speed will go back to 100. Is there any downside to removing killer performance suite?

    Hi to all.
And again, after a fresh installation with the properly drivers, i have again a BSOD.
    The problems seems the same
    http://imgur.com/a/ZabuZ
So, i have the pc from over two weeks but i can't work with it because i have those problems.
Someone can suggest to me a solution?
After the fresh installation, as usual, i have found the bad 630 drivers installed.
I have installed the new one and after a reboot i have again the bad drivers and, in order to have the good, i had to do a roolback
    Now i have the 4590.
About the nVidia 1050 i have installed the 7877.
Can someone can help me to find the way to use the pc without problems

1st of all - you most probably use undervolt - so try to set 100% safe undervolt (I think it could be -100mV or so, just to be sure it's not cause. I can run mine for long on -150mV but it may BSOD once per day or two especially when idling, so went to -140mV - no BSOD for 2 days yet)
2nd - did you switch between RAID/AHCI? I saw someone mentioned about SSD issues in AHCI mode which may be also related to you...

Sure. Just answer if you running apps like XTU or ThrottleStop to make your lappy cooler and faster? If so - you most probably undervolt your CPU. Improper undervolt might cause periodical BSOD (mostly on low FID, when your laptop is idle - voltage drops bellow 0.55V - which is ~ minimum for Intel's 14nm tech-process)

Ahh ok. No, i don't use any apps.
In every case i thinks is a gpu drivers conflict.
Or of the 630 or of the 1050.
About the 1050, do you know if there is new relase of it?

My return to DELL has completed very quickly and I received a refund one day after they received the items.

I now got an amazing deal from DELL for their top spec XPS 15 which I could not resist. Maybe this time I'll get lucky and the machine will be good enough to not return :p

I've read a few debates about whether disabling touch on the 4k actually makes a significant battery life difference. What's the most up to date observation people have on this? Are there different ways to disable it with different effects or is the process straightforward?

I'm returning my 1080p model due to issues i have mentioned previously with the screen. I re-ordered a 4k version already.

Thing is, when i ordered the 1080p version, i got some headphones with it, but they're saying I also have to send those back. :( Has anyone has else had to send back the extras they ordered with a laptop? I want to keep them.

I'm afraid I can't help much, but it looks like your are on Windows 7?
Is the hardware supported by Windows 7? I read recently that Microsoft stopped supporting OS updates from Sky Lake onwards with Windows 7.

Not really talking about the "System password" here but rather the ability to set the password for the SED. If not, you could just move the SSD to another computer and read the contents anyway.

Any suggestions on a matte screen protector for our 4K display? I live the screen and the color but can't help wishing for matte, eve if it degrades visibility a bit.

Viewguard was my stock store for matte screenprotectors but they arent replying to my inquiry. Saw here a few who mentioned getting a matte screen protector and was wondering which brand/venddor you got it from.

    Thanks!

If you cant wait - just buy from amazon https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_...d-keywords=xps+15+9560+matte+screen+protector

Of course you have to send them back, If Dell notice that you "forgot" is another matter as I have returned a laptop without a power supply by accident and they never said anything as it is returned to a 3rd party not Dell.

My point. I see no HDD password but tbh have not looked since installing the 960 so I need to check again :)

While it supports SED it doesn't support IEEE1667, and IEEE1667 is needed by bitlocker to allow it to be a SED :(

Hi guys: have little Q to all of you who experienced factory battery wear level.
When mine 9560 arrived - it has ~92k mAh (but internally was able to charge 104%)
hwinfo report same 4% wear level..
I tried fully discharge through BIOS and then charge again (staying in BIOS) ..
it charged from 99 to 100% for more than 30 minutes ....
when it finished - battery report says mine FULL capacity is 90K mAh but again remaining 97k... (108%)
hwinfo reports wear level those 8%...
    Any thoughts...
As it seems DELL sells batteries with proper capacity (wear level around zero%) ... but somehow battery controller report FULL capacity bellow actual level...

Seems quite common that the batteries are not calibrated, i have had 2 with 10 and 9% wear level and a 3rd on the way as I class it as defective if the chips reporting wrong.

    You probably not understand...
It doesn't matters you running W10 or W7.
Boot it in safe mode and uninstall graphics drivers (else you simply cant install updates)
Then update your W10 to the latest version (usually it takes very long ...)
    Then install drivers

Yes I had the same and had to disable windows updating the intel driver via group policy but this is a pro feature.

    Don't be so categorical...
I reinstalled my PC yesterday (initially laptop came with Polish language, so I decided to reinstall from scratch).
Mine experience shows - attempt to install latest intel graphics drivers caused often graphics card recovery after failure and finally BSODs.
The only way I fixed this - installed updates prior to install Intel graphics driver. That's probably not cause for this guy ... but newer knows...

I say you're wrong because my custom ISO contained this driver and not the official Dell driver yet it still rolled it back despite it being 100% up to date. It still rolled back after being interested by your method and trying it, I am now back to a group policy instruction to stop updated on the HD630 driver.

I have 2 XPS 15's. One UHD w/ 97 whr battery and one FHD with 56 whr battery. Dell says they don't have the 6 cell battery here yet, but I know they do since they replaced my defective 6-cell; they just won't sell me the upgrade. Any ideas on how I could finagle/trick Dell into giving me a 6-cell? Perhaps saying "OMG MY 6-CELL EXPLODED AND NOW IT'S... A 3 CELL I NEED A NEW ONE!" :)

Well, thanks so much to all for the replies.
After some bdos without do nothing and before to proceed with another fresh installation, i have upgraded the 630 with the last drivers (even if they are a beta) and the same for the 1050.
Now, after a lot of tests, seems (and i say seems) all goes well.
Cross fingers and now i can start to work with the Dell.
The last question. There is a way to use always the 1050 or,
how can setup the gpu in order that it work with the softwares that i want?

Why would you always want to use the 1050 considering everything it does passes through the Intel GPU?
You can select prefer the nvidia in the NCP but all that will do it make the laptop run hotter.

How do you guys feel about the keyboard? Have really tried to like it but compared to my MacBook Pro 15 from 2015 it just feels cheap and a bit "tacky". It works but a laptop in this pricerange really should have something better I feel.

I had a Macbook Pro Retina from 2014 and feel the same. A few reviewers have noted likewise too. But the new Macbook Pros have really shallow keys, not to mention they cost several hundred dollars more, and the Yoga 720 15 4K is not out yet, with no bet their keyboards are any better. If and when Dell comes out with a Latitude with infinity display and similar specs, I imagine its keyboard will beat this, but till then we're out of luck. At least the reviewers do mentioned that after a while, one gets use to these keyboards fine ....

Can anyone help me out with a really weird one, that I just can't figure out:

I hear a slight low-frequency scratching-like sound (from the lower left side next to the touchpad) whenever I scroll on a browser (on any browser), but only when power is plugged in! If I take the power tip out and work on battery, no noise at all whatsoever. But when the power is in, and I scroll (on Edge, Chrome, Firefox, with a mouse, with the touchpad) there is a very faint scratching sound - again only so faint as to be able to hear in a quiet room, but audible none the less. I'm using the stock Dell 130W power adapter.

Still, slight scratching sounds when scrolling is really weird ... anyone notice this? Any idea why only when plugged into power?

It's OK, but not great. My typing is pretty loud even when I try to type softly. My previous laptop had much deeper keys, but I guess that is out of fashion nowadays.

There is definitely some variance in the keyboards. My FHD's keyboard has a lot less wobble than my UHD's.
