So, what are the options of running 2 4K@60 hz with the XPS15? Can the TB16 do it?
Based on the horrendous TB15 fiasko, please indicate if you have actually got it working or just think that it would![]()

Ive seen users reporting there are no flickers on those lower levels but they have diff bios version. Is there anyone skillful enough to help the community make those lower levers come back through EFI SHELL? I am a newbie into to this, i cant try it myself :/. Removing lower brightness level and say that 'issue has been fixed' is complete nonsense from Dell.
Maybe using this tool: https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-READ-FIRST-Access-Advanced-settings-through-EFI-shell?page=37
Edit: After reading lot of pages of bios-modding i dont think this will be a easy thing to accomplish.

Just a friendly reminder for new users, if you are having problems with DPC Latency, disabling SpeedStep in BIOS will do much. I disabled C-states as well but not sure if that is needed. If you are a road warrior though prioritizing battery runtimes you might think twice about this but then you probably shouldn't have bought a Quad Core to begin with
Edit:
Throwing out that Killer NIC is not a bad thing to do also, but then Gonz0 might not get his bonus this yearLast edited: Sep 26, 2017pressing likes this. -
I guess it's down to a good home network setupcustom90gt likes this. -
Funny, if I had the luxury of being paid to engineer the XPS and related software, I would be all over these boards all the time to learn about real-world issues and fix them ASAP. Suppose this comes down to a difference is professionalism and pride in workmanship. . .Vasudev likes this. -

Hi Guys
I dont know what happen with my laptop. Since I watch youtube or any video, The screen divide into 3 separated layer with darker colour at the middle. Everytime I move mouse, it appears again. It is freaking annoying and I know it properly comes from software but dont know how to change it manually -
Is it just me or do you also experience this weird black color in this video?
Look at the black color here ... https://imgur.com/a/Ntwk7
Video:
Ive seen it in others also. -

Guys i posted this on reddit, please upvote me and read this.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/736pd5/dell_removed_lower_20_brightness_levels_on_xps/
" Hey all, I just found out that Dell removed lower 20% brightness levels via Bios update due to PWM screen flickering. However this happens only to FHD screens. Users who has UHD(4k) screen could lower their screen to much lower level. I hate using 3rd party tools to dimmer my screen more because its too bright at night and it messes up my colors. You could even get better battery with this! Since 9560 is using latest 9550 bios with these "removed levels", theres no option for us to revert it back.
proved by ( https://www.notebookcheck.net/Dell-...HD-InfinityEdge-Notebook-Review.156462.0.html)
" We noticed PWM flickering at low brightness levels (two lowest settings) of the FHD model. The UHD model did not have this problem, so there is no flickering at reduced brightness settings. The phenomenon is known as screen flickering, our UHD panel does not suffer from it. "
Can we demand "bring us back those lower brigthness levels" from Dell for us UHD users please?Last edited: Sep 29, 2017 -
Sounds very strange to me ... or probably mine English is poor? -
I am telling you that when you set lowest brightness level on FHD screen and on UHD. FHD screen starts to show screen flickering but UHD does not. However they solved it by removing lower brightness levels for both FHD and UHD via Bios update.

I think my 9550 UHD still flickers a little bit, especially on battery (it used to be okay firstly... Then quite unbearable after a BIOS update which supposedly fixed flicker for FHD but I could workaround by reverting to a particular older Intel video driver... Then returned to acceptable with the latest Intel video driver after another BIOS update).

one for FHD another for UHD display users -

Anyone else experiencing problems with the fingerprint reader lately (probably started with the latest Windows Update round).
-
When i run tpm.msc, I get the following error: Compatible TPM cannot be found.
Edit: Was able to update the fingerprint reader driver through devmgmt.msc, but it didn't help. :/
Edit2: Tried bios recovery. Didn't help.
I get this error when trying to re-add fingerprint:

I have reinstalled Windows today and cleared tpm. It is activated in bios but not recognied in device manager
-
btw: you can feel happy if you not lost anything on your harddrive because of this.
usually all data on HDD/SSD become unusable after TMP failure if you have enabled drive encryption) -
-
You probably need MB replacement (or just TMP if it done as separate module) -
Dell will no doubt insist you reinstall windows 1st but you could always give Dell diagnostics a bash via the F12 key during post.

Hi guys - just tripped over this place when doing a search, and thought I'd ask my question here. Sorry if I get the protocol wrong here - please shout if I do.
Ok, mouse drivers? Are there any?? I want to disable tap to click on the mouse pad and this is the first notebook I can remember that doesn't have mouse drivers. None on the site.
I was talking to tech support and they said make a boot disk from the Dell support site and it will include all that stuff, and guess what it didn't. Although it *did* load the 1511 version of Win10.
I have also learned that we are going backwards in time - I had to load an "F6 for floppy driver" to load the driver for the SSD I've not done that for *years*.
And since when did windows stop you partitioning only half of the drive (I have a specific setup OS/DATA/DRIVERS it wouldn't let me)....
... sorry, sorry... just venting...
So then, mouse drivers for a recent 9560? Anyone.
Oh and thanks for all the info up here. -

Shame you didn't look at the trackpad settings.
Start > coggy thing (settings) > devices > touchpad > uncheck "Tap with a single finger to single-click"
And you idiot, fancy calling Dell for help!
So they ****ed you over with an outdated ISO, this is why I made my own back then as I baked in the Intel drivers to skip the F6 crap.
You should find that the current ISO direct from Microsoft no longer needs any F6 nonsense but if you can wait a couple of weeks the fall update RS3 will be out with a brand new ISO, both should work fine without anything (maybe wifi drivers to get you online then windows update will take over for missing drivers)
The only reason the 1502 version needed Intel boot drivers is the chipset was so new they didn't make it into the ISO, 1703 should have them.
As for the partitioning, dunno!
Maybe a quirk with the outdated version but failing that you have several 3rd party programs that will do it. -

Does anyone know why Dell does not sell batteries for this model 9560? I have been searching around the web and found nothing. Dell only sells the powerbank, but what happens after 2-3 years when battery dies completely?
-
2, they had major issues that I assume stopped production and they have only just started to come in stock for warranty issues.
3, finding the right person to speak with at Dell helps but due to point #1 you will have a hard time with them not being a user changeable part (as in flicking a button to remove it rather than taking the bottom off) -
Oh the shame of it - I realised this yesterday as I was shaking my head about 'really *no* track pad control?' and typed trackpad into the windows search bar - imagine my surprise! I've been using windows since about win 386, and this 'two places for looking for settings' is doing my head in. Every time I think I have the settings down they change them...
And, yup, calling dell for help... as useful as a chocolate fireguard.
I had already wiped the system and put on 1703 but I was flummoxed by the trackpad thing - dell suggested using their image and the voyage of discovery began.
The biggest discovery for me was the two types of 'system install' that are around now.
Dell provide a 'restore' image which wipes the partitions, puts its in own, and throws in a partition in *after* the system partition. You get no control of this (so you can't jump in and do shift F10 and person handle diskpart to do it) and when you try to shrink the partition later it doesn't allow you to go below 50%. Which means 450Gb for me which is not what I want. Yeah could have used something 3rd party but I wanted to do it natively as possible.
I prefer the standard install you get from the MS image.
One final question though: I was looking at the drivers thread, and was interested in the 'optimum driver install list' MS have got most of the drivers in the ISO now, does anyone actually still go through the loading the Dell drivers any more - I kinda have to cos that's how I have always done it, but I realise we aren't in Kansas any more...
Aaannnyyway. Thanks for the info, sorry to be a dimwit, sorry for trusting Dell support (I used to 'fix' mainframes I have a distorted view of tech support).
I'm now off to try your trick of switching on AHCI and standing well back - oh yes and reinstalling the whole shooting match again... (and doing the same thing all over again with 1709)

Apart from having the wireless drivers to hand just in case I find windows update puts all the drivers on with the same date as Dell offer. Never expected windows update to work but it does!
-
Well Quite.
I have a directory with all the drivers on the USB with the ISO on it - and I love this 21st century thing that Dell are offering: a button to allow you to extract the drivers. I do that to them and when device manager says ''what the bloody hell is this" I point it to the folder and tell it 'its in there'. And most times it sorts its self.
Sorry about the double post - where is the delete button on this system...

can I have the old abd the new one togheter ?Last edited: Oct 6, 2017 -
You could try updating the TPM firmware via Dell's utility, but I don't see much working for you outside the mobo swap.
Hoping you have better luck with the whole thing -
Contemplating on buying the 9560, do you guys know any online sites besides the Dell Outlet?
Bestbuy has them for like $1400 with the 4k screen, i7-7700hq, 512GB SSD, 16GB memory. Is this a good deal already?
Thanks -

Thinking of getting these or a MacBook Pro Mid 2015. -
They first came to pickup my old XPS for repair, but after 1 week I already got it back, without any explanation. :s
So I called Dell and they told my the laptop wasn’t repairable...
They decided to send me a complete new system. (probably refurbished)
Despite the fact that I had to call them several time for an update on my case, service was impeccable.
Hopefully I can now enjoy my XPS without too many bugs/issues...
I have another question.
I’d like to backup my Toshiba (OCZ) NVMe drive, before I boot for the first time and erase the drive.
On my previous XPS I managed to do it with EaseUS Todo Backup (paid version), from a bootable Linux Flash Drive that I created with Todo Backup. I then loaded the NVMe drivers (from here) so it recognises my NVMe drive.
I tried it again yesterday but it didn’t work. Also “disabled” raid in bios.
Any one knows how to solve it?Last edited: Oct 12, 2017
