If you haven't solved your problem try to use this driver version for Intel OED Smart Sound -> 9.21.0.2277 and this for intel audio -> 10.22.1.97.

Sometimes, I get a GPU/CPU cinebench score of around 100fps/744, and sometimes it's stuck @ around 89/710. Let's say that temperatures are not an issue.
CPU, iGPU, GPU are otherwise undervolted and stable.

    Most probable causes:
    1) power profile (for example max-performance vs balanced vs power-saver)
    2) background activity (e.g. updates/virus protection/huge network activity which cant be offloaded by device)
    3) platform throttling triggered (some laptops may not restored its performance once high temp reached and requires power-cycle)

Dunno... one day it behaves one way, the next day is different, even after reboots. I checked Task Manager, and nothing is out of place. processor usage is usually less than 1% on idle.

Finally I got replaced Killer NIC with Intel 8256...
    1) Better Bluetooth connectivity (my iClever BT keyboard and BT mouse now work much better and reliable)
    2) Better energy efficiency (It simply add ~1h battery life when watching youtube)
    3) Processor package C8 state around 55% at idle, sometimes more than 70% (when used Killer it was usually 40%)

Killer's not good with power efficiency. 1 hr battery life just by simply changing the card is unbelievable.
Killer cards hate power savings, so if I'm using 2.4GHz band the net power consumption on battery is 7-8W when I'm far from the router some 10-20ft away. When I switch to 5G band since 2.4G band is unstable and disconnect when I am in my room, the power consumption is 10-15W with C7 state on alienware.
Only downside to Intel card is its range is not at all good whilst comparing Killer cards.
I enabled IRST power savings that allowed the cpu to consume 0.2-0.7W when idle. So I get 8-10 hrs battery on 92Wh. Maybe C8 state will add some minutes to battery runtime.

Just received one of these today from the outlet store, has a ship date of July 20 2017, Netherlands from its tag.
Not too worried about that as I have two years next day support warranty.

But my first issue I've found with it is bubble witch saga and Minecraft in the start up menu. so looks like they didn't do a proper reinstall before they sent it out. So that's something I need to do this weekend.

My first issue I've come across is its poor sound quality, had a XPS l501x before which had some of the best speakers for a laptop.
So maybe I'm expecting too much, but as that's a 7 year old system I thought this newer machine would be better than it is.

Are there any drivers I should download or setting I should adjust to get the best sound out of this laptop.
I know the speakers fire downwards, so there may not be much I can do.

    Any help much appreciated

    Update

Played some video, not impressed with the response time on fast moving images.
The quality is not as good as on my old machine, but that was a glossy screen.
Not sure if that makes much difference to what I'm seeing.

I knew that there be a difference to the colour not popping as much.
But didn't think there be an issue with things like the ghosting on web page games.

I know the 4k screen is glossy, but read that had ghosting issues as well.
So I don't think that will help with my issue if I upgraded the laptop.

Thought by getting one of Dell top machine's, it would have the best screen and sound available.
But its not a patch on my 7 year old laptop, not sure what to do now.

I did have to change the refresh rate from 59hz to 60hz.
But not sure if there's anything else I can do with the settings.

All I can think to do now, is a full restore and see how I get on for the next couple of days with the laptop.

Maybe I should have just got a cheap £300 laptop, if this what a Retail £1400 buys. (ok I paid £935, but still)
At least at that price I wouldn't have expected so much for my money.

    1) Actually MS added this feature to Windows a while ago... That's not means these apps installed on your PC - its just "featuring" apps ... When you click on them - they would be proposed to download/install.. so no worries here
    2) Sound quality - something very different from one model to another .. even premium models might have bad sound comparing to cheaper ones (but focused on sound). Anyway I would recommend use headphones or external speakers.
    3) And MOST IMPORTANT: Here is the topic about XPS 15 9560 ... as far as I can see - it isn't your laptop model ... so probably better to start new thread or use more generic thread? most of your issues not related to this particular model. Almost no one here can answer if sound quality common problem of YOUR model ...

Um my new machine is the XPS 9560 ;) didn't write that in the thread as I was comparing it to my old machine.
As this thread is about the XPS 9560, felt redundant to write I was talking about the XPS 9560. :p

But thank you for your response, but don't think I should need to use headphones or external speakers on such an expensive laptop.

Not sure where you expect them to ram good speakers in an ultrabook that is a 15" crammed into a 14"chassis but something (ok many things) have to give for this form factor, speakers are one. Turning off all the enhancements helps a lot as they tend to push bass into a speaker that is no more than a glorified tweaker.

I would have put the speakers beside the keyboad personally rather than underneath it.(or a bigger keyboard) But what good a small laptop if you then have to then carry speakers to use it. :(

I was hoping I missed a setting or something. As I really couldn't believe how bad the sound quality was.

Now with the screen quality issues, I think I need to return it and find a better machine.

Don't understand how this scored so high in reviews.

Probably you've lost point of all reviewers: all of them mentioned UHD touch screen which actually brilliant. It have exactly same color repro as professional displays targeting demanding designers working with color (like Adobe RGB e.t.c.)

Besides this this PC really good => decent battery life 10h, very lightweight and pretty looking but still powerfull, build quality very good.

The sound and screen are subjective measurements. If you look at the quality of the screen (color gamut) it is pretty darn good, the response time is the part that is lacking. I don't have any issues with it, but it's my subjective opinion. The sound isn't great in my opinion either, but at low levels it is fine for me.

It scored so high because of the hardware they stuffed into a 14" chassis. There is no perfect notebook that I know of and they all have an issue or two. You may want to try the Yoga 920, I seem to recall people liking the screen and speakers (it has its issues as well though).

But Dell command covers a vast range of Dell PC's/Laptops so I doubt we will suddenly find a BIOS release with a speed shift option. Having toyed with the command software in the past irrelevent switches are not used so it wouldn't work like throttlestop does.

How is everyone's fan going these days? Just picked up my XPS15 2 weeks ago and it seems to run the fan super loud almost all of the time, especially when it's charging. I can be doing simple web browsing and the fan will blow full speed. Kind of sucks since I picked up the Dell over the Lenovo 720s because the 720s is known to have fan issues.

I want to say the BIOS updates made the fan issue worse, but I've only had the computer for 2 weeks so I didn't have a lot of time with it before the update.

No I read reviews of the FHD screen and they were all positive of it, Its not a bad screen just average and not as good as the one in my 7 year old laptop. :)

Last issue/question with this machine, from looking at pics on line I seen to have a different enter on the keyboard layout.
I'm in the UK are your keys like mine or different? its way too small in use.

I give dell a phone tomorrow and see if its possible to upgrade the screen, but I'm guessing I have to return this one and reorder.
I do like the build quality and it is nice not having to carry a brick around like with my last laptop.

All I really need is a well built laptop, good speakers and a high grade screen,
The reason I went for this machine as its a continuation of my old one, but things don't seem to have moved on.

I get the appeal of this machine, small form, fast cpu and gpu and a gorgeous sleek design.
But for me if the two most important factors are the screen and speakers, as they are the parts your going to be interacting with the most.

I check out the Yoga 920 (thanks for the heads up custom90gt) and the Lenovo 720s also looks interesting.

So I have tried 2 different 56W/Hr batteries in my 9560, both were identified as non dell batteries. they were supposed to be for the 9550 / 9560 series with the part # RRCGW.

Does anyone have the part number from a 0560 with the 56w/Hr battery installed so I can compare.

I called Dell 2 months ago, they were not much help either.

    Just add mine five cents:
1st layout is international (not just UK/EU) it was standardized by ISO (International Organization for Standardization)
while 2nd layout (actually more preferred by me) standardized by ANSI (American National Standards Institute). I like this layout much better than ISO because it feels much sturdy. And of course habits ... all my keyboard were ANSI last 25 years.

I understand a Quadro/FirePro card (Precision) is needed for 10-bit output in graphics programs via OpenGL. It might work in games (DirectX). Not positive about this.

Top one is the intel HD video m8, you may have to manually install by extracting the driver folder then pointing to the inf file.

Hi guys, from today I`am a new member of the family with the i7 fhd version.
First thing after turning on the laptop was checking the ssd and, with great wonder, I realized to have a samsung SSD, but not the pm951, the pretty new pm981! Is this possible? :)

My 9560 run is coming to an end, Coil whine noise's I can't stand. Battery Wear at 20% on a 4 month old laptop. Can't wait to RMA this puppy and get something else.
It's a shame I love the display so much.
