If it says you have one then you have one. Dell uses whatever it can get and I expect the old ones are no longer supplied. Dell uses quite a few brands/models.

You need to manage your battery using Dell Command Power. My laptop is 10 months old now, and it still has the exact same 9.9% battery wear it got out of the factory (which I assume is just some Dell precaution). It hasn't gotten worse, simply by managing the battery to stay as much between 50-70% and charge as little as possible.

So you think it don't work with 9560??
I suppose that, if it dont work for now, to make the app more interesting
with a future upgrades the list of the compatible machine will be more long.
I'll try it later, afert work, when I come back to home.

    Hi all,

SSDLife doesn't recognize my Toshiba SSD. Says no SSDs were found. I'm running in AHCI mode. What gives? Does someone recommend a similar program to monitor SSD lifespan?

not sure why you need to monitor your SSD lifespan, but you could use crystal disk info.

Anyone have any idea why my XPS 15 fhd, is constantly changing brightness while watching a YouTube video in fullscreen? It's super irritating.

It isn't, it is some kind of Chrome bug that causes the brightness or saturation of the video to change when you move your mouse. It isn't specifically an XPS issue. I have seen it on other laptops as well. Probably a bug between Chrome and the iGPU drivers.

Got a wemo monitoring switch via my phone. Looks like my undervolted xps15 when plugged in uses around 80-90w under stress testing the cpu and gpu. Anyone else able to report power consumption? I know the reviews say around 120w. I should put everything at stock and see if I can match 120w.

Yes, I know, I'm joking as well! I really appreciate all the help GoNz0 has been giving to everyone in this thread since it was started :)

Anyway, back to the important stuff:
After I had downloaded and installed this driver http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/drivers/driversdetails?driverId=TW53D the app Dell Mobile Connect on the Windows Store became available and compatible :)

It has been a long time since I posted smth here :)

I am looking into the Dell XPS 15 9560 to upgrade my Dell XPS 15 9530!
But before doing so I have a few questions and hoped you guys could help me out (like always :p).

    1. Can you upgrade to the bigger battery when choosing the "cnx95602"?
    2. Does the 8GB RAM Model come with 2x 4GB and the 16GB RAM Model with 2x 8GB?
    3. Can you run a 120Hz (or higher) external screen e.g. via TB3 or Displayport?
    4. Are there any known hardware issues that still exist? I remember how much Dell fuc*** up when I bough my 9530. Basically it was haunted by hardware issues that never got fixed.

As much as I love the touchscreen on my 9530, I will probably go for the FHD (which is non touch) on the 9560 due to compatibility issues on Linux. Also less battery drain and also less scaling issues on Linux.
How ever, I would want the bigger battery.
I will need a 1TB SSD which I will probably buy & install myself.
16GB RAM are a must, I wonder if 32GB are useful for me.

    Thanks guys!

    1. That looks like a Dutch model. You need to chat with or call Dell to see if they will customize standard sku #s

    2. Usually these ship with RAM in 2x smallest configurations (vs 1x large configurations) as that is typically cheaper. However, I don't think that is guaranteed and Dell will ship what they have in stock / is cheapest at the moment. With sky high RAM prices, I expect 2x

    3. Don't know but note Thunderbolt is x2 pcie lanes rather than x4 so that limits external screen options. Plus there are some complaints with the TB16 (which replaced the recalled TB15).

    4. I think the hardware, BIOS, drivers, and Windoze 10 have all improved significantly.

However, you should spend some time going through more recent posts in this thread to see the issues that might bother you (thermal throttling esp with 7700HQ, Killer wifi challenges, Thunderbolt issues noted above, slow but pretty monitor with some ghosting, etc.).

RAM is incredibly expensive now so I might try 16GB if you aren't sure 32GB will help.

Well I would prefer a Thinkpad but the hardware of the XPS is just WAY better and on top of that also cheaper.

Thermal throttling -> can be fixed with thermal pads / paste / undervolting?
Killer wifi challanges -> what are those and do they also exist on Linux?
TB issue -> I won't use TB for anything tbh. All I would want is to connect a 120/144Hz screen.
Slow ghosting monitor -> I guess I will have to look into this. But if its only noticeable when gaming then I am okay. Because for gaming I will use my external 144Hz screen anyway.

    1. no
    2. yes (not seen otherwise but you never know with dell)
    3. I think it depends on what you use but usb-c hubs seem to be the best option
    4. a few, ****ty screen alignment on FHD
You may be better speccing a better machine to start with instead of cutting corners then upgrading, plenty of offers come up. If you need a custom spec you need to go to the business models or the precision range.

Things have come on a lot since the 9530 I had

Hmm I have ran through the checks but it seems like it doesn't pay off when looking at the total price. Even with the 10% discount I get from my company.
Or is there anything that you can recommend?

What do you mean with "Things have come on a lot since the 9530 I had"? Lots of positive or negative things? :p

    Thanks!

Hey, I found a good solution around the web.
Well, for the first thing you need to activate the "developer mode" (see the image attached)
    https://imgur.com/a/MCvdJ
    It can take some minutes
Then you need to download and install the DellMobileConnect_1.1.4253.0.appx from
    https://mega.nz/#!gzYEEQYB!9zIfVhgJJrdsEv6WqMIuAYiPnW505SN5kuv5QgRdnb8
at the last you need to do download and install the Dell Mobile Connect Driver from
    https://mega.nz/#!lnRxzRDK!7j25-PTLFgZo9KA_ba6J29WMGBfDTRHilhqiU8zN7bY
After you do that all work fine. For me is ok.

Nice one, I was looking for the app download and couldn't find it. It is installed but my phones sat in a UPS warehouse so I will try tomorrow when I get it back from repair, no way on earth I'm trying this on my old S2 backup phone as it takes 30 seconds to open an email

Hello to the topic. First of all i'ld like to excuse me, my englsih isnt by far the best

I've got my Dell XPS 15 9560 recently and everything seems to be fine exept my ssd and a bit of coil whine. After registrating my xps and then fresh installing windows i realized how slow my boot/load times in windows are in general, before and after the fresh install.

Got the same disk like Athonline. A SC300 from SK Hynix (256GB variant). But all my results are pretty low compared to his.

    Results from CrystalDiskMark:
    SeqQ32T1: Read 1568.0, write 433.6
    4kQ8T8: Read 763.9, write 431.7
    4kQ32T1: Read 224.1, write 217.1
    4kQ1T1: Read 11.91, write 53.45

I have no idea what could cause those bad numbers. I let Windows install all drivers and also installed the Dell Updater wich only installed the latest BIOS driver. So i guess all drivers are installed. Intel RTS and maybe one or two other feartures wich i have to figure out later the day are not installed yet. Overall my system feels a bit stuffily.

But before i install them. Are they worth it, do they improve things?
Should i switch the SSD to AHCI mode instead of the Raid On?

My boot times are in between 16 to 21 seconds. Some people get 9 to 11... And in Windows for example moving/copying files does take to long and the installation times of some programms especially MSI Afterburner take several minutes.

Another small problem wich doesnt border me that much is coil whine. I had to swicht my energy settings back to normal cause of too much coil whine.
Without changes you can hear it but its acceptable.
When plugged in i registrate a bit more coil whine, not much but it is defenetly there. Maybe a broken power supply? Any thoughts?

Here is my power supply number. If it that may help: CN-0V363H-CH200-76K-03N5-A00 DP/N 0V363H

Would appreciate your help very much.

    Greetings from Germany.

The second file is available at Dell
    http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/drivers/driversdetails?driverId=TW53D

Can't get an official download of the first file on my laptop as M$ Store says not compatable. Why can't these be simple downloads!!!

Have u activated the "developer mode"?
Have u download the app installer from the link shared?
If yes for all, most probably you need to install, before, the Microsoft App Installer from the store

In every case mine are the official files shared on mega for the forum.
They are the same used by me.
Happy that now all work fine.

This is really annoying. Just recently updated the BIOS to version 1.7.0 and have issues I didn't have before:

    - Speedshift is not working anymore
    - CPU Package will not go beyond C3 state, at all times, the minimum package power is 11 watt or higher (versus 0.7 - 1 watt before, while idle).
    - As a result of these two things: I now idle at 40-45 degrees C (versus 35C before) and the fan is always on.

Anyone else had issues like these?

I don't know if it is related, but Dell Command | Configure and | PowerShell provider recently supposedly support SpeedShift.

I think I mentioned it covers every option for every machine so changing speedshift settings wouldn't do anything, you will find lots of things that won't work on the XPS15's
I had a play with it a couple of years ago on the 9550 and thought I found some interesting things, turns out they did sod all unless you could already change them :(

It would be nice to be wrong though!

Who wants to put a bet on 2018 machines supporting it? (not me mind :D )
