I'm thinking thats what happened, 3rd party merchants possibly selling off rejected cards cheaply or something. It's almost like you can't trust anyone these days, there's so much fake stuff out there![]()

I doubt the ebay cards are rejects, they likely just order a bunch as OEM for cheap and then relist them for a quick buck.
Besides failure rates on something like these cards is probably measured in parts per million, not near the quantities being sold.
They could be chinese knockoffs but that's another story.Last edited: Jul 9, 2018 -

Should you disable the default enabled disk encryption (semi bitlocker) btw for performance increase?

Worked fine for wifi - the Bluetooth range was exceptionally poor and unstable no matter what I did or tried. I also have a Canton DM75 in the same room and it struggled to connect to that, and its been working perfectly for years with other machines so something was defiantely wrong with it but I gave up in the end, sadly defeated!Last edited: Feb 12, 2019 -
I hope the card isnt bad or anything or maybe even fake. I actually read about there are lots of fake cards out there of everything, wifi cards, gpus, ect.
I actually finally got offer from normal Dell support to replace my 9570. It should arrive tomorrow.
@wood. Did you check the cables again? They're so tiny, maybe you accidentally broke them or didnt connect aux and main properly. You also have to reverse the colors I think on the Intel, so aux is main and main is aux compared to the Killer card. Windows 10 has lots of problems with BT btw since some updates. Did you try latest Intel drivers? You dont need to install the bad bloatware of Intel btw for the Wifi (Wifi Pro blub bla), use the For IT Administrators package zip, which is just a few MB in size with just the inf drivers, you can find them here:
https://www.intel.com/content/www/u...7246/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking.html
And then go into device manager and update driver from folder. Uninstall the Intel ProSet tools and all.
And Bluetooth:

Tried all that, swapped both leads over twice, they were fine and I've got the hang of clicking those leads on and off gently. Cleaned up all the drivers and did a new install, messed around with all the settings like changing wireless channels to differnet and non overlapping channels etc etc. Removed it all, tried Windows 7 drivers, and then swapped back to the original Killer 1535 which gave me about another 5 metres connection but still not good enough. Wifi worked ok, even in the garden but no improvement over my other machines really.
I have a Win 7 install on this daily driver machine (XPS17) L702X and it has a Centrino N1030 card in and its conection to the Inverter is rock solid, has been for 5+ years. It logs onto the SMA Sunnyboy BT and pulls the data from it every day. Its about 10m away from the table here and theres a wall inbetween us. The 9260 had no chance, I had to go in another room and the 1535 made it into this room but not as far as the table. I'm beggered if I'm going to stand in the hall with the laptop every day!
No where in the settings did it have Bluetooth Amp, where the N1030 has and I think this may be the reason, the EU or whoever are always banging on about signal strength so I think they've nerfed the cards power somehow. Or I got a fake or a dud.
Either way its back onto old Faithful for now! Thanks for trying to help anyhowsLast edited: Feb 12, 2019 -
There are plenty of knockoff wi-fi and bluetooth modules but I haven't read about that being a big issue for higher end laptop cards. The clones sometimes massively underperform data tx, use lots of power and don't work with newer firmware. This is one typical example

Regardless, buy at reputable retailer as this space has dubious actors.Woodking likes this. -
But if your old laptop holds a BT connection from the other room with a wall in between, then I think that laptop has some super pumped up BT chip in it!
I've never had any BT device that could keep good connection over 5m, let alone with a wall in between. I thought BT is designed for short distances and with "almost" clear line of sight, which has been my experience with all BT devices I've owned. -
They don't make 'em like they used to!Last edited: Feb 12, 2019 -

Not sure if this will help with the 9570 but when I was testing AS5 and Kyronaut thermal pastes with my 9560 the AS5 performed better in my application. I cleaned and reapplied with different applications (dot, line, spread, less and more) and all with similar results. For some reason the AS5 was about 5 degrees lower in temps with load and idle than the Kyronaut. Def worth a shot if you guys have some old AS5 left over.

Has someone tried to disable Turboboost on the CPU? Should be 2.2ghz vs 4.1ghz (boost) on the i7.
And how does that influence temperatures, fan noise and game performance? -
But utilizing SpeedShift and adjusting EPP (say via ThrottleStop) is a much better way of controlling performance on modern chips.franzerich likes this. -

TurboBoost is not a good idea if you want the fans quiet. It literally can boost your CPUs temperature for a second and also IN one second from 45 to 70. If you're unlucky that will trigger the fans on and off all the time. I wont recommend using turbo boost Mostly all games run same as good with 2,2GHz. It is just disgusting, that there is no way to alter fan profiles on the XPS. 45°c is too low for a trigger point. It has to be switched to at least 60°c.
The biggest issue is Windows 10 though because it is total garbage for a laptop or tablet. It will never be idle for sure and will always do something in the background (and trigger TubroBosst or letting the CPU always jump around). I hate that there is no "force idle" mode which literally deactivates EVERYTHING noise of Windows 10. Updates, WinSXS, 100 maintain services, SearchIndex, AntiVirus and Malware, Error reporting, logging, spying and telemetry, and countless other services running all the time in the background and decide its a good idea to do something randomly.Last edited: Jul 10, 2018splus and franzerich like this. -

Just received my XPS...how can they design a keyboard this size instead of using the available space???????
I've also a thinkpad x1 yoga and the keyboard is bigger (the laptop is smaller), how can the XPS have such a small keyboard???????? -
@wood ...
I am an IT expert, I know what I'm doing. Of course, I use O&O ShutUp10. That was already included in what I said. WITH a tool like O&O ShutUp10, the things are like I said. It just limits some telemetry, not all. All the stuff I mentioned is still active with O&O ShutUp10. Windows 10 isnt designed properly for a nondesktop OS, and it is just terrible. It will never really idle. And the worst is... if you let the laptop idle, Windows uses this as "hey the user is away, let's do stuff while he is away!!!", and this will always burn your batteries or heat up the tablet or laptop.

Plus, sometimes other users might not be aware so all answers may help someone whos not aware what it is.
W10 is a pile of junk, and I've been in I.T. since I used to install DOS 6.22 on floppy disks and used everything inbetween up to this OS so I guess I'm allowed to say that. I'd never call myself an expert though, not these days as things are moving so fast. I was happy with XP, then W7 but its all gone pear shaped now.
I did have a list of telemetry sites on my router I used to stop W10 updating itself on my W7 machines but it still doesn't stop W10 stuff from happening on the machines themselves, although they can't 'call home'. There's a lot of posts on here about W10 clean installs, and how to lock them down if you want me to find the one I used?
Edit : Heres a link you or others may find useful if you want to lock W10 down to behave itself a bit better, lots of tweaks on there even for I.T. experts

Windows 10 is just terrible, and to me, it is still in beta. I think I read before, that Nutella fired 80% of the old Windows team, and that the Windows team is now just a really small number of people "keeping it alive". They introduce bugs after bugs with new updates and dont fix anything. It is so ironic because I was an insider since beta and I made a list of bugs, like in the first 10 minutes of using Windows 10. And these bugs... ARE STILL IN WINDOWS 10.
Then there is the problem, that there are too many services running. Most are maintaining, updates, virus and malware, but also stuff like SuperFetch, memory compression (BAD BAD BAD), error logging. WinSXS maintain (this burns my tablets like every day, 50% cpu for 20 minutes when it's idle), all kinds of notifications, tips, Cortana (which you cant deactivate properly). If you look into the task manager and let the laptop idle, there is always some Windows process which boosts into first ranks for a while, it will never be really idle.pressing likes this. -
What I didn't like was MS installing 10 in the background without users knowledge or permission, caught lots of people out. On the plus side it earned me lots of treats as neighbours brought their machines round for a fix.
We've slipped off topic a bit here Mr Maffle, perhaps go onto the OS forum here if you want a good old moan (or read)
about W10, you wont be the only one and its only getting worse with every upgrade

Man... all this reports of severe throttling give me a headache in deciding which one to buy:
- Notebookcheck made a review for the i5-8300H+1050 gtx, and says it's good, almost doesn't throttle and fan noise only 43dB.
- When I look for comments about the i7-8750H+1050Ti gtx, people say it throttles like hell and fans are very loud, talking about 48dB (saw that on reddit sometime)
I mean... what the hell? It's like there are worlds different between these 2 devices. Can it really be? Anyone has experience on both devices?
And if throttling and fan noise are really that bad on the i7 version, would it make more sense to go for the i5 version? I mean what's the point of a HexaCore+1050Ti if it throttles so much down, that it (maybe) ends up having the same performance like the Quadcore+1050 (or a slightly overclocked 1050).... -
Sorry if this has been mentioned in the thread, but what brand of SSD does it ship with?
Is it any good? Just grab a 256 and upgrade myself? -
Mine came with hynix SSD... (1TB)

Back to topic:
I have the issue of sometimes stuck at Dell logo at boot, it is not frozen though, because I can press shift lock and the leds are working. If I press the power button, go to STR S3 sleep, turn on again, it starts at Dell logo again and get unstuck. Anyone else having this issue?
What about the disk encryption, should you disable it? Does that give you a bit more performance?
I also have lots of Intel Audio Service (IntelAudioService.exe APPCRASH) and Waves MaxxAudio Pro (WavesSvc64.exe APPCRASH) crashes in logs, others here have it too?Last edited: Jul 11, 2018 -
No appcrash either. System seems to be generally stable. Again, that's after clean install. not sure anything to do with pre-installed crapware.
I am using a EX920 1TB SSD. Bitlocker has some negative impact on read speed. Write is not affected as much
Seq Q32T1
Bitlocker off: Read 2883 MB/s, Write 1671 MB/s
Bitlocker on: Read 1608 MB/s, Write 1733 MB/s
The difference seems to be quite significant, however I decide to keep bitlocker since in reality I am not gonna feel that and security is more important to me.improwise likes this. -
Now I do have some standby issue with the 9570/Windows 10.
By default, the standby mode in BIOS is set to OS decide. And Windows 10 decided to use "Modern Standby", or better known as "Connected Standby". Basically system is in S0 state (low power idle) and can perform processing when it wants to. Two problem here:
1. At one occasion I put the laptop to standby mode. 6 hours later I tried to wake it up and found the laptop burning hot and the battery nearly depleted. Use powercfg /sleepstudy and log reported that the laptop was sleeping all the time. This really concerned me that the modern standby is not that reliable (failed to enter or something in the background keeps doing processing).
2. Standby power consumption is high: around 2% each hour when it works.
So I turned off Modern standby (set registry csEnabled = 0). Sleep study shows now the system is doing hybrid standby. it works fine but each time it enters sleep it will write about 2GB to SSD.
Then I turned hibernation off. Sleep study shows the system is doing standby (normal standby). One issue with standby is that sometimes the screen may flicker every few seconds until computer is restarted.
Next I entered BIOS and change standby to Suspend to RAM (S3). (Windows 10 claims that if you change the standby mode you need to re-install windows, however I did not see any problem without re-installation) Now everything just works like that in good old days. Close the lid the system goes to standby, with power consumption of 0.5% each hour. You can still use hibernate if you want (e.g., when battery gets critically low). Surely I cannot connect to the wifi during standby, but hey I am using a laptop not a tablet and what's the point. -

^ ... You have to change in bios (force S3) which is normal suspend to RAM. That's the first thing you do of course. No one wants to use modern standby on a laptop. You dont need to reinstall Windows for that. It is even dangerous because any Bluetooth mouse move will wake it up even the lid is closed. You can also force connected standby off by registry and just set hybrid standby to off via energy settings.

But there are no app crashes. -
So what's the word on throttling vs previous models? I'm going to purchase today and don't have time to flip through 60+ pages. Can someone give me a brief summary? Are there any other major issues with the laptop? Much appreciated!
-
I had no coil whine but replaced the m.2 SSD with a Samsung. The screen is good, (FHD) and the killer wireless card has some issues that may be fixed at some point with updates.
Its fussy with RAM but if you read this forum you can find upgrades that work.
If you are buying mainly to game on this I'd look elsewhere, and do your homework on the other reviews of it.Last edited: Feb 12, 2019 -

Is it only me who finds a bit strange that hardly anyone talks about other qualities of this laptop besides just thermals?
How about the battery life? Can anyone say what's the power consumption at idle at 60-70% and at 100% screen brightness for the model with 4K display?
Actually, I'll be buying the 9570 with i7 and 4K display in a computer shop in a week, which means I'll have to check it there in the shop if everything is OK or not.
Any suggestions what basic checks to do in a busy shop as fast as possible? I'm guessing the laptop will most likely be in a factory reset state, so I'll have to create a Windows account first in order to go into Windows and try things. I could download and bring any software with me on a USB stick, if that's needed?
I'm little concerned because there won't be much time and space to do thorough checks and tests, but at least I can do the basics, if I know what I need to pay attention to. -
Plus I wouldn't want an ex-display model with others dirty mitts all over it, eeewwwLast edited: Feb 12, 2019 -
I've got the sealed new replacement laptop today, and I'm done with Dell. The new one has even worse coil whine than the other, I shipped back. Strange confidence, huh?
- coil whine is permanent
- making all random different electric noises, (high-pitched) buzzing sound, clicking, under stress and load of SSD even mice like LOUD short clicks and buzzing sound
- periodic beeping noises with little white noise ever 2-3 sounds
- going with your ear on the laptop and it's a zoo
- all coming from the top center area where the voltage regulator sit
I have the same issues btw with the 2nd new laptop, than the other one:
- randomly on power on it stops at Dell logo and doesnt continue.
- Intel Sound Service app crashes in the logs (go into control panel and to maintenance, then reliability report, it will show the crashes in there)
- I let a few Twitch.tv video streams run for a while and it had the same issue, that they would exit randomly after 10-20 minutes. I connected a usb lan adapter, and they were running fine. This **** stupid Killer Wifi cards seems to overheat maybe with large or longer steady downloads. I also had some random defective downloads, like downloading a 400mb file (geforce driver) the exe file was corrupt. All my other wifi devices work normally.
- back bleed in whole is less, BUT this model now has one LARGE back bleed spot in the left middle area. When turning on it's not much visible but then gets more and more after short. I am sure it is because of the glass gets warmer, and the temperature makes it tiny little bit bend an create the back bleed.Last edited: Jul 13, 2018 -
Dell haven't covered themselves in glory with this model it seems, and I'm struggling to see why they can't sort these issues out before they start shipping them. I'm going to wait a while before getting a new laptop and see if there's anything better built out there - doen't have to be a Dell either, losing faith in them slightly.
Hope you find something better, and please let me know if you do.Last edited: Feb 12, 2019 -

I'm not sure about my rights there once I pay for the laptop and take it out of the shop. I think I'm officially in the hands of the Dell service from that moment...
