I’m so glad I sold it.

And for some reason Dell is now taking weeks to upload new BIOS updates to LVFS, after they're released on Windows on their website... Every day their service gets even worse and worse. I should have bought a Thinkpad.

Do you notice a performance hit in game? How does core and memory clock look?
I'm curious on what the consequence is when running something that would push it 100%Vasudev likes this. -
I didnt notice any clock based changes anywhere. The only change seems to be in the fan curve, into a more "silent" fan curve, resulting in way higher temperatures, for example while gaming. I did not do any Cinebenchs so far if results are the same. Totally have no idea, why they thought this was a good or needed change. The dGPU poll fan trigger issue wasnt changed, totally awesome and incompetent. Fans also spin up randomly all the time for at least 1-2 hours every few minutes or so during modern standby. I love it.Last edited: Jun 24, 2019pilililo2 likes this.

So that fan polling is still an issue. I cant say I'm surprised, but was hoping.
I am wondering if they took a page from Apple's playbook and decided to let it run hotter for decreased noise. Letting the fans only go 100% only at the last possible moment.pilililo2 likes this. -
Maybe when you stress cpu/gpu more then fans kick in and cool it. You said that they have 50% reserve in speed. It this turns out to be true it is a good situation. Lower noise on lower system load. I believe 250 pages ago people where talking that fans are too loud
Dell cant make everyone happy.
Did you noticed random fan kicking in while system idle or very light usage?
But i think they could at least fix random gpu fan polling...CryoBolt likes this. -

I tested the new BIOS version 1.11.2 on a Precision 5530 and my experience was somewhat different. I haven't noticed increased thermals and/or noise, but stability wise it's seems like a regression. My PC crashed twice during a day with same symptoms. Basically, both built-in and external display start flickering or immediately go blank, fans spin up to the maximum RPM and, in a few seconds, the laptop becomes completely unresponsive (had to use power button). When it happened I had a couple of browser windows open with few tabs each and a couple of VMs running in background. I checked BIOS logs but found nothing apart from a successful firmware update message. After the reboot the built-in display was still flickering. In the end, reverting to version 1.10.1 resolved those issues.

Hello guys,
I have an issue I did not have at all 2 weeks ago. I have a XPS 15 9570 since summer 2018.
The issue is when I'm gaming usually i can multitask with Chrome or Firefox easily. Now, I have an issue, when i do alt+tab to go to my internet browser, the browser is very slow to load anything. What is weird is my gaming performance are quite good, except when i go to my browser, then I need like 1 minutes to allow the PC to load the game at 60 fps. My computer reacts like the internet browser was extremely demending and impact other tasks. This happens only when i have a game loaded.
Fyi, I use Throttlestop with classic settings recommended by community. I did not change anything physicaly for thermal throttling and did not get any performance issue until this.
I have latest BIOS and drivers suggested by Dell and Windows 10.
Do you think it is software or hardware ? What can I do to resolve this ?
Thanks a lot ! -
sounds like not enough ram. Check ram usage in task manager.
-
I have 16 GB of RAM and i7 how can it be possible ? It is just gaming + browsing, no more
It works perfectly for like 10 months and now this happens I hope there is no physical damage.
I will check during my next gaming session, I would be surprised if it is the reason of the problem. -
Do you have gaming mode on? Windows 10's gaming mode surpresses background activities to free up system resources for gaming. Might be that it suspends the browser in some way so that it needs to restart those activities whenever you alt-tab.
-
Has anyone tried to follow this video and solve some problems? Thank you
-
Run Chkdsk /f /x on all volmes. Make sure battery cable is disconnected before proceeding. Do a power reset and wipe the gold contacts of RAM. Check page file amount in System Info > Advanced System settings.

So, am I stupid for even considering a new XPS15 after the failures with the 9570? Both Lenovo and HP seems to be dragging their feet with releasing updated "power models".

If you need a laptop, I would consider the updated version coming out this summer. Maybe with the OLED panel.
You know this series of XPS models well so you can figure if it is buggy in a few days and just return it.
Personally, I will wait for Intel to move from the Skylake platform which might happen 2020 or 2021. -
Windows 10 ver.1903

I have an xps 15 9550. If i were to get a new xps in the future, would you suggest the 9570 or 7590?
My requirements are
1. Quad core laptop which seems all of the 9570s has
2. 97whr battery
3. Minimum 512gb ssd. Might even want a 1tb ssd.
4. 16gb memory
5. Non 4k Screen as i want long battery
Do you agree to always buy the laptop as is with the specs you want such as 512gb ssd and 16gb ram compared to buying one with 256ssd and 8gb ssd... and then you buying the 512ssd and 16gb ram on amazon and then having it installed yourself? But if you cannot do it yourself, it would not make sense pricewise to buy those parts since going to repair shop, they going to charge at least $40 to install the new ssd and another $40 to install ram right?
I also took a look at reviews of the 9550, 9560 and 9570 from someone here on this forum who posted review on it. He seem to say the 9550 is very good... the 9560 was the best... but the 9570 is the worst. Is this true or false? I read his review say the 9570 has more issues than any of the old models. Is this true? Example even said the 97wh battery seem to be worst than the battery of the previous modes.

Anyone getting random freezing for around 10 seconds on their 9570, mine is running latest firmware and drivers.
-
I hope Intel and nvidia GPU drivers are updated to latest ones from their website?
Check Intel rapid storage version if its below 17.1 get the latest drivers from Intel website and see if it fixes the issue. -
Yep running 17.5
NVIDIA drivers are latest too -
The freezing might be because of nvidia optimus.
Did you change Power management in nvidia control panel from Optimal to driver optimised? Or Optimal to adaptive.
Usually Adaptive or Optimal should work. -
I've never touched it, but it is currently set to optimal.
Anyone having trouble installing the latest 1.12.0 bios?
Whether I try to install it from Support Assist or from a download on the Dell site it always fails to install?Last edited by a moderator: Jul 30, 2019 -
That's odd.
Always double or triple hashes of downloaded BIOS say SHA1/2. -
What does this mean?
-
I've a bad habit of eating some words. Always check hashes to verify that downloaded file wasn't corrupted.
-
Has anyone installed the new bios?
Are there real improvements or new problems?
I always have a certain fear of installing new drivers or bios on this laptop ... -
Mine has the same numbers as the ones in your post.
Been onto Dell, they told me to disable bitlocker and use the firmware file in the link they sent me, still same result the file just doesn't execute (even tried in safe mode)Vasudev likes this. -
Is anyone having issues with external display audio?
For me external display audio only works if the laptop is using the Intel graphics card (ie. chrome web browser using YouTube)
If I run a game that use the Geforce Graphics then I get no sound from the external display, it just comes from the laptop speakers instead.
I never used to have this issue, wonder if it's related to latest Windows update? -
Managed to install it today, but had to put it on a FAT32 formatted USB stick, restart the machine and press F12 and install it low level from there. All seems fine so far.kuichido likes this.

Still using and loving my XPS 9570 for the most part.
I hope for next year's redesign they:
-Use a 16:10 Display
-Take out the chin bezel while keeping the remaining bezel-less design on the top and sides.
-Redesign and improve the thermal cooling
-Include the white options like the XPS 13 has
Really don't need to do much else... I think the same keyboard and trackpad, soft material + aluminum design, screen options, and performance class for it's size and cost is just perfect. -
Hey,
I have a question about reading 4K video files.
I have XPS 9570 i7 16Gb with 4K screen. I can read 4k video on Youtube, even play some light game like Hearthstone in 4K resolution with good fps but when it comes to video files, I have always a black screen with only audio on my 4K video files. Is this normal ?
I tried a lot of video player such as VLC, 5KPlayer and others & update my drivers but the issue remains.
I guess I missed something but the hardware should be able to play a 4K video file right in .mkv format right ? If yes, how can I solve this issue ?
Thanks for your help ! -
I would advise installing klite codec pack standard and use MPC with hw decode on for MPC only as player and try if it works

Hello there,
I recieved my XPS 9570 over the weekend, Outlet refurbished.
First thing I did was a fresh install of the latest build of Windows 10 (1903) and update all the drivers from the Dell website and the SupportAssist tool. I also downloaded the latest Nvidia driver for the 1050 from the Nvidia site.
Now when im on battery im getting a random BSOD (DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE) when on mains power its not a problem. A quick look online it appears to be quite common. So far ive:
- Update to latest 1.12 BIOS
- Changed all power options i could to performacnce (although the options in Windows seemed limited for some reason)
- Also tried intel driver updater to update drivers too.
Anyone else had this an manged to fix it? Some people have been driver related but a few people have said they have had their motherboard replaced. Maybe try the older build of Windows 10 (1809)?pressing likes this. -
@peter212693 Most of the time and if you have a kernel memory dump, you can easily find out which drivers causes the BSOD. Follow this guide https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2082-install-configure-windbg-bsod-analysis.html

I was the other days looking through my system logs and noticed, that the Intel HAXM had error entries in my log, saying it cant start because "HAXM can't work on system without VT support".
I thought this was some bug or mislead information, because the Intel i7-8750H obviously supports VT and also VT-x ( https://ark.intel.com/content/www/u...-8750h-processor-9m-cache-up-to-4-10-ghz.html ). But then I used the Intel processor ident tool and it says:
The heck!? I looked into the bios and VT is enabled. What is this now again? Anyone else can confirm, VT-x not working/disabled on their 9570?
=== Logging started: 12.08.2019 20:14:15 ===
This computer does not support Intel Virtualization Technology (VT-x) or it is being exclusively used by Hyper-V. HAXM cannot be installed.
Please ensure Hyper-V is disabled in Windows Features, or refer to the Intel HAXM documentation for more information.
I tried toggling it off on in bios like suggested here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/4eac0h/psa_how_i_got_vtx_working_on_my_dell_xps_9550/
I dont have Hyper-V installed either. Looks like an awesome Dell bios issue again, or they secretly disabled it.
Update:
I did a reset all bios settings to default, toggled vt off on again, and NOW it is working:
All should chek the same (maybe do a bios reset to default to be sure and set back settings they want to off/on again), mostly something messed up over one of the countless last bios updates. I LOVE DELL.Last edited: Aug 12, 2019 -
Instead of disabling HT they disabled most important thing for VMs and virtualization tech. Typical Dell.... Try disabling HT and see if it enables VT-x?

Dell continues to bait and switch XPS 15 9570 owners over Modern Standby sleep issues Notebookcheck.net | Sept 2, 2019
Dell has quietly posted an update on its support website for the XPS 15 9570 titled "Modern Standby Performance Improvement Package Application". The 66.94 MB update promises to fix Connected Modern Standby being enabled by default, a change that Dell previously claimed required re-installing Windows 10. The company labels the update as urgent, with it apparently updating machines to BIOS 1.12.0 too. The update is available to download now.
According to the thread started by u/pokechat8978, the .exe installs BIOS 1.12.0 and Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver 17.5.0.1017, the latter of which it last updated under two weeks ago. According to the changelog, it seems that the update disables Wi-Fi while asleep, which is already possible from within Windows 10 Settings. We cannot yet verify this, but frequent r/Dell poster u/mkdr claims this is the case.
Hence, it seems that the "Modern Standby Performance Improvement Package Application" is a cumulative update that introduces nothing that XPS 15 9570 owners may have already installed or enabled. Oddly, the update claims to re-enable Disconnected Modern Standby when Connected Modern Standby is active, something that Dell previously stated required an OS re-install to do. More smoke and mirrors from Dell? We shall endeavour to test the update and report back when we have done so.
-
> Oddly, the update claims to re-enable Disconnected Modern Standby when Connected Modern Standby is active, something that Dell previously stated required an OS re-install to do.
Someone mixed up Disconnected Standby and old S3 Sleep. It shouldn't be a problem to turn of wifi during modern sleep (S0) to get disconnected standby - except that it may not stop the apps, drivers or the OS to do funky things rather than sleep during S0 despite being disconnected.
Here, nobody is promising to bring S3 back (which per Microsoft requires a reinstall, however also requires BIOS to report S3 available and S0 unavailable to be possible, otherwise reinstall defaults back to S0).
I guess they just patched a couple of bugs in Intel RST and BIOS, or packaged updates so that someone having sleep issues would apply them. Which may or not solve a sleeplessness issue a particular laptop is having. Check using SleepStudy...
The way things stand, Dell can't really fix S0, because it is broken by design by Microsoft. -
I did the update of windows to the 1903 version. Report error, the BSOD starts with the indication "UNEXPECTED KERNEL MODE TRAP". Element that caused the problem: intelppm.sys
The system restarts automatically but systematically tries to solve the update problem with the result that shares another BSOD ....I had to do a system restore but I still see the error and update failed.
Do I have to go and look for an older recovery point? And anyway, this damn win 10 will try to reinstall the update sooner or later ...Solutions? Step to win 10 pro and block updates?Last edited: Sep 11, 2019Vasudev likes this.
