I am one disappointed ex owner of a M1730, from order to delivery 8 days, I was estatic but then the box was damaged. With trembling scales I set it up and to my great dismay found it was not in good working order. Eventually got hold of the correct customer service guy (customer service??) who has just told me they are coming to take it back next week. I am spitting mad
Great to hear some of you guys are happy with your new toys, damn makes me envious....enjoy -
I just have to say that I love my new XPS 1530. I play LOTRO in Directx10 on high settings and it runs pretty damn well! I might play in 9 though since the performance drop probably isn't worth it.
WoW looks and plays absolutely perfectly now. Anyone who says WoW has crappy graphics hasn't played it in high settings/resolution, and/or just doesn't like the art style. It's a beautiful and FAST engine.
I downloaded Orange box last night, and was very impressed by TF2. I ran in high settings and it was smooth (and fun as hell I might add). I can't wait to try out Episodes 1 and 2.
I'm pleasantly surprised by Vista. The games are running well and I'm not having any problems alt-tabbing around like I used to have with WoW in XP. Boot time is FAST, but I did reformat upon arrival. I'm already up to a lot of processes, possibly because I re-installed too many useless drivers, but there hasn't been any noticible slowdown since reformatting.

The Vostro 1500 with XP definitely delivered enough power to get the job done for me. I bought the notebook primarily as a portable workstation to run Solidworks. I did not know if the 256MB GeForce 8600M GT would do the job with large assembly files, but it has so far worked quite well. My desktop is an older PC with 3.0 GHz Pentium D processor and Nvidia 1500 FX video card. With 2.4 GHz T7700 processor, the Vostro's processing capability is similar to, if not faster than, my desktop, but the graphics is somewhat slower than the 1500 FX. This was expected. The faster processing power of the Vostro kind of evens out the playing field when comparing the overall performance of the Vostro to my desktop.
The Vostro feels solid in its build. The protrusion of the longer-life battery makes it look ... a little mean. It looks serious. Definitely not on the elegant side.

Hi everyone
I'm new here and I have some question about my Vostro 1500 that received two weeks ago
1-i use modified driver(16904) in this laptop and the question is why I cant use it in battery mode (performance for example decrease from 22 frame to 6 frame )but when using official driver from dell site I can use it in battery mode but I cant overclock it in battery mode or ac power
2-why I can't oc in battery mode? -

Well, I'm a happy camper!
Yesterday, FedEX delivered a XPS M1530 to my residence.
I've spent the last 12 hours loading programs and playing with this and it is the finest notebook I've had yet.
Got a PCMark05 score of 5880.
Too many photo's to post, so I made a website:

Hi.. im currently in the Philippines but I did order one XPS M1530 laptop which was delivered a couple of days ago to my cousin's house in the US.. was there supposed to be an earbud included in the package? I've read somewhere in the forum that there should be at least one pair.. someone even got two... I checked my invoice and there was no mention of any earbuds in the list? Should I ask Dell to send me one? or was this just a promo of some sorts until stocks ran out?

Hi everyone!
My XPS m1530 arrived today, and it's perfect (so far anyway)! The blue color is nicely darkish, not as bright as in some photos seen here.

Tonight is the night for the clean install/quad-boot (md/vista/xp/kubuntu) thingy, should be fun! -
I ordered my Vostro 4 days ago and it shipped yesterday. I ordered it on the night of 2/7 and I guess that they built it in two days, pretty good.
The ETA is from 2/13-2/15, I am hoping for the former. -
I ordered my XPS M1530 on Feb. 1st and I got it on Feb. 8th. I am so happy with this laptop. It is awesome! I can't seem to tear myself away from it and I'm sure my Inspiron 530 must feel awefully neglected... Here are my laptops stats:

I just got my "new" D410 from a company that buys and sells used computer equipment from companies etc.
It's a pretty standard one, 1.86Ghz, 12.1", 6cell battery, 1GB ram, 60GB drive, paid $700 incl. shipping and one year warranty from the company, this is pretty cheap for norway...
it was stated to be in fair condition, but upon arrival I found that to be false.
It actually looks like new! The battery even seems in good condition, which is surprising. Gonna check the service tag later today to check if there's any warranty left.
Also ordered a 9cell battery off ebay a couple of days ago, for $90, just hope it isnt a fake (stated to be genuine) and not worn out... -
Getting mine tommrow

Not bad I think for £602 including VAT and delivery and seems to be very good in general. Tiny amount of keyboard flex on the right and slightly weak bluetooth signal are the only problems...
I can't see any screen graininess at all. -
I just had my laptop delivered, the screen is fine even though it is a samsung. All other aspects are really good too, the processor and ram make all of the difference in everyday computing.
-
I just ordered my first ever Dell notebook!! I got it for a great deal, what with the 15% off refurbished notebooks coupon that was made available today. Here are some of the great perks:
Dell XPS m1530 Tuxedo Black (wanted Crimson Red, but this deal was too good to pass up)
- Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 (2.2GHz/800Mhz FSB, 4MB Cache)
- 15.4" WXGA+ LG Widescreen TrueLife LCD 2/ 2.0 MP Webcam
- 8600GT 256mb GDDR3 Video Card
- 250GB 5400RPM Hard Drive
- 3GB DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz (2 DIMMs)
- Intel 4965 802.11a/g/n Dual-Band Mini Card
- Dell Wireless 355 Bluetooth Module
- Microsoft Vista Home Premium
- Roxio Creator LE
- 9 Cell Battery
- Sound Blaster Audigy ADVANCED HD Audio Software Edition
All this for the low, low price of $1088.88! It even came with Lord of the Rings Online! This is the most exciting computer purchase I've made ever! The best thing is, I sold my other laptop for $1225, so I made a $136.12 profit on a computer that's basically as good as the last one (albeit not as strong a processor, but the graphics make up for it). Now I have to decide what to use the rest of the money on. What do you guys think? -
I just ordered my first Dell laptop a couple nights ago... the juicy bits are:
XPS M1530, Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7500 (2.2GHz/800MhzFSB, 4M L2)
Midnight Blue Casing With Microsatin Finish XPS M1530
2GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 Dimm, for XPS M1530

256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
200G 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive Free Fall Sensor
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition, English
I'm pretty excited about it, I'm definitely going to dual boot it with XP Pro as soon as I get it. The estimated shipping date is the 27th and the estimated delivery date is the 29th (2nd day shipping), but based on all the status posts I've seen on this forum it seems like 8 or 9 days from now is a more likely delivery date, which suits me just fine! Getting the higher resolution screen seems to guarantee me a Samsung screen, so I guess I'll just have to see how bad it is before I go through all the LG replacement hoops that so many others on this board have had to "enjoy". -
Just ordered mine yesterday! First Dell Laptop as well. Major upgrade over my old (and current) desktop.
XPS M1530,
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7700 (2.4GHz/800MhzFSB, 4M L2 Cache)

15.4 inch Wide Screen WXGA+ TrueLife LCD with 2.0 MO Camera (LG Screen)
256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
200GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
Came with a free upgrade to a T7500, bumbed that up to a T7700, and also squeezed in a extra 5% discount. Got it for just under $2000 ($1980) Australian, which was my budget. Getting the 4 Gbs of Mem as a birthday gift from the GF, in a month.

Ordered an XPS M1530 refurb. Took the longest time debating on when to buy and what to buy. Almost went with a T61, but the alloy outer case and price on the 1530 won me over. Thought I'd come back on the forum while I catch up on technology.

Tantan911, I'm switching over from an Acer Aspire 5021. Personally, any of my future purchases will have either an alloy case or an alloy roll cage, like the T61. If you move the laptop around a lot, I would definitely recommend a more business oriented laptop with the previous features. I'd probably look at a Thinkpad T or the Vostro instead of the 5920G. My two cents. -

Is it strange that I have yet to receive any tracking numbers for my order? It shipped on Thursday (Happy Valentine's Day to me), but these past two days, all it has said is, "Data Temporarily Unavailable". Has this happened to anyone else? It does say ETA is 2/19-2/21, but I'd really like to keep track of it in case something happens. Thanks!
-
Hooray! I ordered my M1530 early Wednesday morning and it apparently was shipped this morning, meaning that I'll get it Tuesday in all likelihood for a total time from order to delivery in less than a week, pretty amazing if you ask me, and I customized my order too. One question... I ordered one of those Belkin sleeves for my computer off of the Dell order page, yet it doesn't list any sleeve in the item list on my order status page... is that normal, or should I call Dell to make sure my sleeve is coming with the laptop? Ridley, you should have a tracking number, I already do and mine was just shipped, maybe you should call them... Can't wait to get my laptop!

Woot! Just ordered my 1420! t7500 2.2 gig cpu with 3 gig ram, 250 gig hd, vista premium, 3 year complete care. Getting to here has been quite a ride!
One thing that surprised me about the ordering process ... I thought I would be able to 'stack' a coupon code from this site ontop of a 1420 package with an 'instant savings'. Unfortunately ... nope, not gonna happen. I wanted to 'stack' the $400.00 coupon onto of a $374.00 savings. All I ended up getting was the $26.00 difference between the 'instant savings' and the coupon savings. In all ... you can't combine instant savings and coupon. bummer. I know it's cheap ... but I really wanted to stack that coupon!
Oh well ... done is done. Now the waiting begins. -

Those who bought a refurbished XPS M1530: Tell us what do you think..Thinking to buy one.

Just ordered a 1720, T8300, 3 gb memory, HD screen, 250 gb HD, used the Dell 25% off coupon and got $650 off.

I just picked up a refurbished 1720, stats in sig, for $850.00. Dell outlet is definitely the way to go.
Ordered it Monday, it shipped Tuesday, should have it between Friday and Monday. -

Ordered mine yesterday to replace the 1520 that was stolen from my home a couple weeks ago. The money I saved will go towards the purchase of a new shotgun to protect this baby...and laptop insurance.

$1304 - $400 Coupon = $904 -
Purchased a Vostro 1400 on Tuesday with the following specs.
Intel Core 2 Duo T5470 (1.6GHz/800Mhz FSB/2M L2 Cache)
2GB, DDR2, 667MHz
128MB nVidia GeForce 8400M GS Graphics Card
160GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
14.1 inch WXGA+ TL LCD
Bluetooth 2.0
Windows XP Home
Intel 3945 WLAN (802.11a/g) Mini Card
Total Cost (Before Tax): $1145 - $299 instant savings = 847.00
Estimated Ship Date: 2/26/08
Then today I saw that there was a $500 off $1249+ coupon for Vostro Laptops (which expires 2/27) and tried to cancel the previous order, but when I called it had already entered to boxing process and could not be canceled, so I bought another 1400 with the following modifications:
Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 (2.2GHz/800Mhz FSB/4M L2 Cache)
250GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
14.1 inch WXGA Matte LCD
Total Cost (Before Tax): $1276 - $500 coupon = $776.00
Estimated Ship Date: 2/29/08
I'm pretty sure that I will return the first one I bought. The coupon purchase seemed like a better deal and I wasn't sure if I would like the glossy screen plus given the various issues, I went back to the matte with the lower resolution, even though I had a high res on my old Inspiron 8100 (which I'm replacing after 6 years). Now I just have to wait. -
Just ordered my 1530 yesterday; ships 3-10-08. I've spent a LOT of time reading through the threads here, so thanks to all who have shared their experiences. Hopefully all will go well... I'm going to try and be open-minded about what screen I get and judge its quality myself.
The ordering process itself was a pleasant experience. I didn't feel rushed at all and was able to discuss every aspect of my purchase to my satisfaction. Here's hoping that I'll be equally satisfied with the new toy once it arrives.
Ah, sweet anticipation!
BTW, I got the free next-day shipping -
Mine just arrived 10 minutes ago!
I'm super impressed with it, and so far have nothing to complain about!

Great machine.
One Question though:
What is the benefit of Sound Blaster Audigy ADVANCED HD Audio Software Edition? Is it worth the extra money? -
I've done a bit of research though, and it helps with external speaker throughput and maybe a few other things afaik.
So in my case, I'm glad I went with it, as my current home setup is my Laptop on my left, plugged into a speaker set, keyboard, mouse and 19" monitor, running dual screen. -
I had previously posted that I ordered my 1530 Friday (2-22-08). They originally told me it would ship on March 13, and while I was still on the phone with them they changed it to the 10th. Today I went online to check their progress and according to the website it was already shipped today (Monday 2-25-08), and is scheduled for delivery tomorrow.
I wasn't expecting that to happen, but we'll see what happens tomorrow. This is great news! -
Just ordered Vostro 1500 using $500 off coupon and I'm returning the previous one I had.

Got my XPS 1530 in Yesterday:
Pros:
Screen is awesome at 1440x900
keyboard is nice to type on
overall design is great
slim for a 15'' notebook
1.6 GHz CPU runs all my programs w/ flying colors.
Vista running smooth w/ 2GB memory
Accessories in abundance.
Intel WLAN card has good range and so far I have not had interference problems like I had w/ my old laptop.
FingerPrint reader is actually useful on certain websites.
Windows Gadgets r quick ways to get information and check email
Does everything I need it to do and it looks and feels awesome.
volume buttons r touch sensitive.
Cons: (all are minor)
Case can't even fit my micro usb receiver, the notebook just clears it w/ no room for extras.
Runs kinda hot, especially just under the screen near the battery port.
Power cord plugs in right next to two USB ports and is kind of in the way when I go to plug in a flash drive or usb receiver.
I don't no if its my imagination but I feel the keyboard and speaker surfaces are slightly warped (maybe this curve is by design or maybe its my eyes deceiving me, i dunno but it does not seem to be an issue.)
Power cord is somewhat short.
Lid gets fingerprints instantly
Recommend: Yes -
I think the wire just under the key does make it curve upwards on the right slightly. Effect on day-to-day usage = none.
Its something I only really care about when I'm in pedant mode I'd have to say!
I'm absolutely useless at the fingerprint reader I have to say. Meh.
Started with an LG screen, but have been through some repair kerfuffles. Now on an AU Optromics so trying to get back to an LG one again! -
nice poll.... just thought I'd mention it

I was unexpectedly impressed when I started opening the boxes. The little extras Dell included (like the sleeve and the softsided book for storing the manual & Dell discs) were sweet. The travel remote hadn't been listed when I purchased my notebook & wasn't on the confirmation page, but there was one included.
The notebook's case is gorgeous. I really like the black color, and it doesn't show fingerprints at all. Style was low on my priority list, but I have to admit it's nice having a hot looking machine.
As soon as it booted, I knew my M1530 had a Samsung screen. A quick trip to Device Manager confirmed it. The other thing I knew almost instantly was that I won't be able to work at the 1680 x 1050 resolution. Even with glasses, my eyesight isn't that good. The resolution I'm using is 1280 x 800.
There's what looks like a light black smudge in the bottom right corner of the screen. Not sure what to call it. It's a little annoying.
I've put the M1530 next to my old Inspiron 6000. WOW! How'd I ever work all those years on the 6000's display & think it was good! Even the Samsung screen is an incredible improvement.
Sometimes I think the screen is just fine. Other times I wonder.
Other than the screen & mediocre sound (not unexpected in a laptop), I'm very happy with the M1530! The battery fits fine, there's no whining noise, and no "shock" when touching the metal area below the keyboard. I purposefully ran down the 9-cell battery yesterday. It ran for 3 1/2 hours in High Performance mode while I was online & installing software. Not bad at all. I'm sure it'll do significantly better with a different power plan.
I go back & forth on whether I'll keeep the M1530. I do know that I won't be going for a screen replacement. I'll either keep the machine or send it back. Since I'm using a lower resolution, it may make sense to return it.
