I'm loving my XPS1530, Its awesom. I am also very happy I received the LG screen and not a Samsung! The display is amazing on the WSXGA+.

I orderd a HDMI Cable to try out watching netflix videos so hopefully thatll get here quick.

How can I make the most out of my laptop as far as making it faster? What is it about the "drivers" everyone is formatting? Will that help and its it something easally done?

    Thanks!

I'm glad to see you're getting a new notebook. I got the same model and mine had (and still has to a lesser degree) stuttering sound problems. Dell swapped it and while the old one was far worse, the new one still does it. It happens on all audio. I don't think there's a fix either.

Dell did support it though but what can they do?

I hope your's works better. I'd like to know if it does.

My Vostro 1400 just showed up.

    T8100
    3 GB RAM
    128 MB 8400M
    160 GB HDD (7200 RPM)

    Initial impressions:

First Dell I ordered - I ADORE Dell for actually giving me driver discs. The packing was very nice and neat.

I love the feel fo the case. Very sturdy.

A little heavier then I'd like for a 14.1'' but I guess considering what I ordered that is to be expected.

The 9 cell batt sticks out the back, I was lead to believe it would prop the laptop up slightly but this is not the case. Color me satisfied

Not to big a fan of the power supply but meh

First boot was a bit sluggish. Machine works like a breeze though now that I'm into Windows

first orders of business are to install a lot of software. Already grabbed Firefox and Thunderbird. Gonna install AVG in a sec. After that I'll probably just grab my Firefox addons and browse the net for awhile. Then will come happy fun time when I get to install World of Warcraft.

Oh, I gotta check out my travel remote too. It looks nice.

It took exactly one week from the day I ordered it for the machine to arrive at my door. So far my initial reaction as a new Dell customer is one of tremendous satisfaction

I got the extra sound option on my Vostro and these speakers are far better then the Altec Lansing speakers on the DV6000 I was using for awhile last August. I think it's kind of funny that a business notebook could perform better then HP's vaunted media notebooks.

That's my basis for comparison though, I haven't heard the Dell speakers with or without any options besides the one I mentioned I grabbed as the Vostro 1400 is my first Dell machine. I'm glad I got it though and it wasn't all that expensive.

Are you getting the 64 bit version of Vista?

i'm not getting 64-bit, but i'm planning to upgrade that myself in the next couple of months maybe when my power needs increase (if they do)... do you have the dedicated sound card or do you have the software?

Just got a Dell XPS M1530 new. So far I think it's a good machine, however it didn't rival the euphoria or excitement that I got receiving my MacBook Pro.

    See signature for specs.

    Pros:
    • Great looking laptop (MacBook Pro still looks the best ;-))
    • Is very thin and light for this specification
    • Games run very well (even Crysis on med-low settings)
    • Great performance all around
    • HDMI port!

    Cons:
    • Smudges collect easily on the lid
    • Scan lines and interference on the VGA out (with power connected), goes away when on battery
    • Lack of DVI-D port
    • Lack of Gigabit LAN

I'm disappointed by the interference for the VGA port. VGA is always prone to this problem, but it's annoying that the placement of it was right next to the power connector. However, in saying that, you can always hook up an HDMI -> DVI-D converter with no worries, which makes me think why Dell ever bothered to put it in.

Overall it's an excellent laptop though, it manages to chew up anything I throw at it so far. The graphics card is fast, the CPU is blazingly fast for a laptop, and I'm getting about 4600 marks in 3DMark06.

    2GB RAM [1x2048, 667MHz] (will upgrade to 3 or 4GB shortly)

using my xpsM1530 for a few hours now. Never used vista before so im still exploring things. I dont really like vista looks good but looks to me thing go slower then they should. The screen is just amazing i got a 1440x900 LG screen and it just looks beautiful ! Battery live seems oke ik get around 2 hours out of a full battery. Just wondering where i can download drivers for the 8600M can only find drivers from november 2007. WHich cant be right i think since those drivers also dont give any OC options.

    Update:
Today i reinstald vista to get rid of all the bloatware i went from using of 1,06GB of memory to 550-600 after startup. took some time to figure out which drivers i needed but i got them all now :p Installed office and most programs i use frequently just need to instal the adobe CS and cod4 / cs:S. Oh and it totally replaced my desktop :p my dekstop is a C2D 2,8Ghz with a ATI X1950Pro. just peformce a little better in gaming but not by a huge diffrence. tuesday will be the first day i take it to school i will report how it survives its first day of school.

    It are here! \o/

XPS M1530 from the outlet, its in incredible condition, still had all the original protective plastic on it and still has the brand new smell :) The only defect I can see is a tiny chip of paint missing from the wifi catcher button

    Got a T8300 2.4ghz Penryn
    4gigs of DDR2 667mhz
    320gig 5400rpm Samsung HDD

Didn't get the XPS pouch or the DVD Holder, but hey I saved nearly 400 euro off the retail price :)

I just cannot get over how awesome the screen is, after reading all the horror stories about the screens on here I was nearly expecting a dud but I got an awesome LG panel \o/ Very good Horizontal Viewing Angles, Good Vertical Viewing Angles and even backlight...

I look forward to spending some time in the forums in order to get the most out of this "absurdly expensive laptop" (to quote my wife).

Hey everyone, been reading around the forums for the past few days since I ordered my Laptop. Learning a lot, and hope to stick around for awhile. The wait is killing me, as it probably has for everyone.

    Here is what I got:

    Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T8300 (2.4GHz/800MHzFSB, 3M L2 Cache)
    4GB, DDR2, 667MHz
    1440x900 WXGA+
    256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
    320GB 5400RPM SATA
Vista Home Premium (Plan to upgrade to a 64bit version)

    Just ordered...

    XPS M1530 (Tuxedo Black)

    CPU: T9300 2.5 ghz
    RAM: 4 gb
    GPU: 8600 gt
    Res: 1440x900
    HDD: 320 GB at 5400rpm
    OS: Vista premium (32 bit)

    £704

Thanks to everyone that helped me choose what stuff to put in!

I do have one little query though and that is about the Media CD. I had no option to get one and I have seen it mentioned in some people's build on here and in that guide to remove bloatware.

    It's not essential is it?

Also, I only got one year for the warranty thing.

I figured that if it was going to break, it would do so within a year and then I could get it fixed. Plus it is pretty expensive to get more years.

    Was that a mistake?

Not a mistake at all. Make sure its right the first time, check it, if problem, replace it if its a physical problem. Chances are after a year we'll see Calpella or something else that you'd be inclined to buy, though the M1530 should be able to last you much longer than a year as it is a very self sufficient notebook unlike past models that had a poor graphics card.

Well, I FINALLY got my computer! After my order (see stats in sig) was delayed, I canceled and bought a laptop with the exact same specs off of eBay for $400 dollars less. It got to my house two days after I bought it. :D

For all of you who are worried about your m1530 laptops, please don't lose sleep over it. I don't have a bump in the keyboard or a grainy screen or any dead pixels or leaking...or really any problems at all. I checked my screen and it is a samsung but it's still absolutely gorgeous.

No complaints; seems to be a very solid machine. :) *sigh of relief* Now to install 64-bit vista...

I'll add myself to the list, I received a M1730 from the Dell Outlet for €1220.

    Saphire Blue
    T9300 (2.5GHz/800Mhz FSB/6MB cache)
    Vista Home Premium
    4GB 667 RAM
    2x8700M GT SLI
160GB 7200RPM Hard Drive Free Fall Sensor (Fujitsu)
    8x DVD+/-RW
    Dell 1505 Wireless-N
    Dell 355 Bluetooth
    17" WUXGA Display (SHP13D9)

    Windows Experience Index: 5.1
    Processor: 5.4
    Memory: 5.1
    Graphics: 5.9
    Gaming Graphics: 5.6
    Primary hard disk: 5.3

I have the Sharp display which seems fine to me, in fact it's very impressive. I calibrated it with an Eye-One Display 2 but haven't had time to view many images on it.

I had to disable the A band on the wireless card to stop the audio from crackling/breaking up. I haven't tested it fully but that seems to have solved that problem.

Because it was an outlet machine I couldn't pick any specs but my priorities are to get a larger/2nd hard drive and possibly a Blu-ray drive after seeing how impressive the display is. The hard drive seems slow to me but I'll probably wait until 320GB 7200 drives are more readily available (ie, drop in price) before I replace it. I'll probably do a clean install at that time. Other than that, I'm very happy with the machine and think that I good a good deal.

    DUDE!

I almost bought this exact one... It popped up and then it was gone! I kept hoping it would expire from the cart of whoever snagged it. Low and behold...

I had the M1530's sorted from highest processor and 8600GT and kept hitting refresh until an LED lappy popped up. Midnight Blue is the best color.

Congrats on your purchase... purely a coincidence that I saw this one the few seconds it was available before you snagged it.

I found one a couple hours later with identical specs, but a 2.5 instead. $1039, but what the hey. I haggled them in to giving me free shipping... still a kick ass deal and you dont have to wait a month for them to build it. Hopefully these thing arrive in one piece!
