    Hi,

    I have 2 questions:
    1. Is there a DDR4 support ?
    2. Is there a DDR3L support for more than 1600Mhz?

    Thanks,
    Andrei

    Hi Guys,

I am one of the first adopters of the laptop . Sadly i am having issues with regards to sound while on windows 10 . The issue is that off late all of a sudden sound quality deteriorates randomly (develop crackling sound ) and then completely goes off . If i try to trouble shoot using windows 10 it says "please plugin a speaker or headphone". Sometimes restarting fixes the issue , but not always . I tried various versions of audio drivers to no avail. The only way to fix is to re flash bios to any version and reboot . But issue reappears after a day or two or sometimes in an hour .

FYI : There is no such issue when i am on linux so definitely its not a hardware issue (i think) .

Anyone else facing a similar issue or have any suggested solutions.

Hi there not got this laptop yet it's 'shipped' but I believe your problem is the dell audio suite/software disable or uninstall it and your cracking will disappear. I've seen it mentioned on other sites and this was the fix

    Hi Everyone,

Is anyone running Linux on this? I got an Inspiron 7559 with the UHD screen, and have tried various versions of Ubuntu, Mint, Manjaro, etc. But under any Linux once the fans start running, they run almost constantly at the lowest speed. I am not sure if something is heating up under Linux, but lm-sensors is showing cool temps.

Under Windows 10 the fans hardly ever come on. This is a real bummer because otherwise I like the laptop, but no Linux is a deal breaker for me.

Anyone else seeing this on Linux?

I am running kubuntu 15.04 . I dont have any problems other than not being able to install nvidia drivers without running to trouble . I remember having to add nomodeset to get the installation going . Other than that installation was staright forward .

If the BIOS don't end up throttling it down to 1600MHz

Thanks for the reply. I must either be losing my mind or there's something wrong with my laptop. In windows the fans rarely kick on. Temps are good if I view them in core temp.

Under Linux once I boot up the fans are off after about 10 minutes of normal usage the fans will kick on and stay on. They are on at the lowest speed, barely audible, but running nonetheless. The laptop does not appear to be hot, lm-sensors report cool temps, and it's blowing cold air.

I have been trying to figure this out for days trying to figure out if its a Linux issue or a hardware issue. Are you 100% sure your fans are not running? They are barely audible at the lowest setting, and if the machine is cold it will take a few minutes before they kick on.

    Thanks

My fans don't turn on . It may be a driver issue with the GPU due to nvidia optimus (gpu not turning off) . I have the nvidia GPU turned off permanently in Linux using "bumblebee" ( i use Linux only for work - not graphically intensive) . I don't want to try resetting it and check because if i tamper and ruin it i may need to re install :) . Not enough Linux geekiness to fix broken stuff :) .

Ah interesting. Did you turn it off with bbswitch or bumblebee? I've tried bbswitch but it just crashes Linux. Wouldn't happen to remember how you installed bumblebee would you?

    I think i used

    http://blog.10ne.org/2014/01/23/disable-the-optimus-discrete-graphics-gpu-in-ubuntu-using-bbswitch/

but i am not 100% . I remember trying a lot of stuff to install linux .Once i got it installed my battery used to drain out in 45 mins . Since in my old laptop i had the same issue I tried to turn off nvidia using an online guide and one of them worked (which i think is the one posted above) .

FYI : If you dont do this and run your laptop on battery , the battery will likely go toast in a few months as gpu will always be on and battery is not meant to handly that load.

Thanks!! Switching off the discrete nvidia card with bbswitch does help. The fans take longer to turn on, and they finally shut off! So I think it almost works. I say almost because once the fans start, it still takes them 10 to 15 minutes to shut off under Ubuntu.

I watched lm-sensors while I was testing this, and I *think* the fan control is somehow tied to the SODIMM (RAM) temperature sensor. As I am using the laptop, the RAM temp will slowly creep up to around 55c. At this point the fans kick on at the slowest speed. With the fans on, the temp then slowly decreases until the SODIMM temp is 39c, at which point the fans turn off. Unfortunately, this is taking around 15 minutes which to me seems excessive. (although better than never shutting off)

So still not sure what's going on under Linux. Under Windows 10, fans are a non-issue. Fans rarely turn on, and when they do they shut off after a minute. I am actually really impressed with how cool the laptop stays in Windows - But I need to use Linux :(

Just out of curiosity, which version of the BIOS are you running?

    Thanks again, big help.

Yes, I've tried with various kernels - 4.4, 4.5 etc. It's frustrating because I see reports of users who have the fan issue, but then others who say they don't. I can't figure out what the difference is. So far I've tried:

    Ubuntu 15.10 stock
    Ubuntu 15.10 with kernels 4.4, 4.5 and xenial linux-firmware
    Ubuntu 16.04 beta 2
    Linux Mint KDE 17.3
Various nvidia drivers, turning off nvidia, prime-select

The most headway I made was using bbswitch to disable the nvidia gpu. But still the fan runs more than it needs to.

I'd be willing to bet your fans do turn on but you don't hear them. Next time you're using linux for a while, install lm-sensors

    Code:
    sudo apt-get install lm-sensors
sudo sensors-detect (hit enter for all questions)

    then run the command
    Code:
    sensors

And check what the RPMs for the fans are reporting. Obviously if you do this right after turning the computer on they'll report 0, but once it is warmed up, I bet you will see they are turning.

364.72 is working fine for me. I did not know that I was risking a bricked card. But it still fixed the black screen issue...

EDIT: Nevermind, I got a new black screen. I'll try the official Dell driver...

Yesterday dell service has replaced my old LCD (code YHDGT) with new one with code 2M4XM.

Do You know what are the differences between them?

I have found that YHDGT is produced by BOE and 2M4XM by LG.
    Am I right?

Here is how the skin looks like:
Edit: The skin for the trackpad is a bit weird to use. It's not that glossy. There's a little friction.

Got this laptop since yesterday, just 2 very small issues, I'm wondering if others are experiencing the same.
    1. I have some coil whine (at least I believe it's called coil whine? ). When I hold my ear on the laptop I hear some kind of noice, which doesn't come from the speakers. It's not very noticeable at all so I'm fine with it as long it won't get louder.
    2. If I go to this test screen: http://hd-beamers.nl/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Testbeeld-3840x2160_ultra-hd_4k.png
and don't zoom in, but only press f11 (fullscreen, so it covers the whole screen) I get screen flicker at this position: http://imgur.com/BGZ6RWE
This is the 4K panel. Other laptops I had also had flicker like that at some kinds of grey, so I suppose it's normal. I haven't seen it at places other than this testscreen yet.

Overall, I love this laptop. Trackpad, speakers and keyboard are good enough, screen is excellent! (Today I compared it to an asus zenbook pro, and this one looks much better to me! I'm happy I didn't pay 500euro more for that one). The 960M performance is better than expected, it got 30FPS on 4K high settings on Sonic & all stars racing transformed. Overall it even seems to perform better compared to my previous laptop on 1080p. That laptop also had a 960M and I returned it for random screen flicker, maybe there was more wrong than just the screen flicker? Or does the 2GB matter that much? )

Hi, I know there has been several posts regarding whether the M.2 port supports SATA or PCIe. I found on Regedit a possible solution for this, it seems that many people were having the exact same issue as we do, with and Alienware and a Samsung 950 pro M.2. Apparently there was no BIOS support.

However someone found a solution and apparently works only with a clean install from USB:

"You have to download windows install to a USB drive and reinstall windows. In the windows install, select your new m. 2 drive."

This solution is confirmed for the Alienware but I'm not sure if this will work on our Dell Inspiron 7559 and I don't have a PCIe based SSD to try.
If anyone has a Samsung 950 pro M.2 to test and confirm please? I would buy one myself but I live outside USA and buying one of these are really expensive and nearly impossible to return for a refund.
Also Technical Support keeps saying it does support PCIe in M.2 2280 form fact.

Maybe the new BIOS solved this? BIOS 1.1.7 available at the Dell Driver Download Center

    Hello guys!!

I just installed Windows 10 on my Dell Inspiron 7559 laptop and I have 2 problems.

    1. Can anyone send me a color profile? I tried something found here, but are still a problem for my eyes...
I tried to calibrate colors from Intel HD Graphics driver, but also unsuccesfully. My screen is
2.The second is about CPU. Even on Power Save mode, the frequency is almost maximum(3300-3400MHz). How to fix that? I installed all drivers from Dell Support.

    Thank you!

With the CPU, if you right click the battery icon and go to power options, then put the plan on power saver or balanced, is it still at it's maximum speed?

Unfortunately yes. Also If I go to options to select maximum processor state, if I select there for example 20%, it remains at 100%. And the LG Screen is yellowish.

    Greetings from Italy!
I've read till page 128, and I will continue after writing.
I've read about fullhd dell lottery, and about 4k glossy screen.
Tomorrow I want to order a Dell 7559 featured:
    I7 6700HQ
    GTX 960M 4 gb
    16 gb ram ddrl3
    1 tb sshd hybrid
    Second slot ssd: empty
    English keyboard back-lit
    I think that's all.

    Fullhd: 970€ with shipment cost
    4k: 1030€ same

The question is: full HD or 4k?
My use will be: video editing, home recording, gaming, in case photo editing. I don't need to use it outdoor and I expect to keep the notebook in charge as often as possible.
I'd like to know if with the 4k is an LG screen for sure, how much the glossy screen is annoying confront to a BOE full HD (i expect the worst matchmaking, cfr murphy's law).
Moreover, if you know about lesser 4k screen durability (maybe scratches, fragility?).
My issues are: battery life (even if I think to keep in charge), screen durability, reflections (not only outdoor, even in my room, with the light from the windows or just a simple light turned on).
Considering my use and this issues, what do you suggest?
Thank you so much for your kindness

    Gabriele

We bought 5 of this laptop for work, and also ordered 4 Samsung SM951 PCI-E SSDs which just arrived... so yup, not recognised in BIOS or Windows or anything!

So there's no way of getting PCI-E SSDs to work? It's so dumb Dell didn't let the laptop support them when it could...

    EDIT: https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/8924-dell-inspiron-15-7559-pcie-ssd/
This guy read the PCI-E configuration of the CPU in Linux, does that show anything helpful? Perhaps a BIOS change could enable PCI-E SSDs on this laptop?

I downloaded monitor asset manager to check and it says it's a SDC monitor. Never heard of that brand before, all I can find on google is some german site with lower res touch monitors.
Whether you'll be annoyed by having a glossy screen is really personal, for me it doesn't matter at all. I'm happy with it and also use the touch sometimes. Since it's made for touch I don't expect it to scratch that easily.

I'm not sure how much battery life you need, but today I used the laptop in class on battery for over an hour and had 72% left. I had put windows 10's battery saver on and power options to high performance. The brightness I used was about half. During this whole time I was working in visual studio, next to that I only had google chrome open. Next time that I only use it for about an hour I'll definitely leave brightness at maximum. If I need a lot of battery life I'll put the power plan to power saver instead of high performance.

Personally, I don't regret paying more for the 4K screen, it looks beautifull and I'm not bothered by reflections so far (I only use it indoors though). Best would be to compare glossy screens and mat screens before you buy in a shop or with laptops your friends/family own so you can decide for yourself.

thank you, you have been exhaustive and convincing. I'll order the 4k one. have you put a film cover on the screen?
You think that the second ssd slot should be filled? and it's better put the OS on it or it's ok leave the OS on the hybrid (so i define if buy now the second slot or later).
    thanks

I didn't put anything on the screen
If you want faster boot times, definitely fill that SSD slot and put the OS on it! :)
Hope you'll enjoy the laptop! :)

Beware the 4k screen on these. If it's an LG screen it will likely suffer from an annoying flicker/dimming when shades of blue enter the screen. Lots of folks with the 4k screen on the 7559 complaining about this. Here's a video showing the issue.

I also notice if the refresh rate is set to 60hz, when the brightness is at 50% or 40%, you can see a very slight flicker. Really noticeable on grays. Doesn't happen on 48hz. It's like you can see the refresh, I guess is what it is - like the monitor can't keep up at 60hz.

Overall I am not impressed with the 4k UHD screen and would not order another one with it.

Thank you. This issue is not covered by warranty? It's strange dell allows this...
Anyway, it has been verified on every 4k notebook?

I went to the same website as shown in the video and can confirm this doesn't happen for my 4K screen, also I don't notice any flicker on any brightness level.
The only flicker I have is at the test screen I posted earlier, which is fairly normal I think as that part is hard to produce for monitors.
Really the biggest problems I have with this laptop is the adaptive brightness on battery (anyone knows how to turn it off? ) and the coil whine coming from the middle of the laptop (whether the adapter is connected or not)
Both are fine to work with, adaptive brightness only happens on battery, and is not that annoying. The coil whine is only noticeable when it's completely silent.

the version I ordered is the one with i7, 16GB RAM, 4K screen 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD at the dell website in the Netherlands.

What's the best way to downgrade the NVidia driver. I'v currently the 10.18.13.6472 driver installed, but I'm getting these black screens at startup now all the time. I want downgrade to the official Video_Driver_CN7F1_WN32_10.18.13.5382_A02 driver I downloaded from Dell's support site.

    Currently installed:
    NVIDIA SD Vision Driver 364.72
    NVIDIA Geforce Experience 2.11.2.46
    NVIDIA Graphics Driver 364.72
    NVIDIA PhysX Systeem Software 9.15.0428

Do I need to uninstall everything or only the two drivers?

It may very well be that Dell uses different brands/models on the 4k screen. If I look in HWINFO64 mine is an LG panel (LGD04D9 / 156UD2). Everyone who has this has this panel has the dimming issue. This is not a true RGB screen. It uses LG's RGBW technology (also known as Faux-K), and this dimming issue is an inherent flaw of the technology. Many reports about it.

Also, as far as I know, there is no adaptive brightness on these. At least mine doesn't have it. That's the first thing I looked for when I noted the screen dimming. If it did have adaptive brightness, you'd see the option mentioned in these instructions: http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/04/SLN287324

Dell's support is clueless. They will acknowledge the issue, but will replace a screen which does the same exact thing. There's no fix for this issue, outside of getting a 4k screen of a different brand. (Which may or may not be possible - I do not know if Dell uses different brands for the screen in these.)

Check out the comments here, where people send it back 2 or 3 times and end up with the same problem: http://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-r...iewpnt?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B015PYZ0J6#R3CMNQCCH0KQPH

Dealing with Dell support is like dealing with a brick wall. They don't check, they just willy-nilly replace parts, and you often end up worse than you started.
