Try the solution in this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Alienware/...ienware_15_r2_bios_wont_recognize_my_samsung/
you have nothing to loose. Also, the latest bios is 1.1.7, just so you know.

The laptop doesn't have an PCIe-interface. Does a SM951 SSD perform faster then a 850 EVO on this connector? Worth it to buy a faster SSD than the much cheaper 850 EVO?

try this dell outlet link - although don't think it will bring you straight to the 7559 but just select the 7559 from the selection list at the side and you'll see they are all listed as having 2GB of VRAM

Alienware 15 R2 also doesn't support PCIE, but they've made a workaround. So it should not hurt to try right?

I can't find the dell inspiron 7559 in that list. When I sort by inspiron it somehow only gives XPS 13 laptops, when I sort by dedicated video card it only shows some older XPS 15 laptops.

If that's the case then why does Dell list the nvidia driver under "available drivers" for that specific service tag? http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/servicetag/21JQB62/drivers?s=BSD

Also, my computer, which has the nvidia 960m, does not list it under the "original configuration" either. For whatever reason Dell apparently does not list that part. And I would bet that's what Dell's moronic tech support is looking at. Dell's support is totally clueless. I wouldn't trust anything they say.

It would seem unlikely that Dell has multiple versions of this motherboard, especially when the specs and model numbers are the same otherwise.

Guys, I'm at a loss here...

My Inspiron 7559 has arrived and I'm quite happy with it, except for two issues.

The first is that everytime I'm watching Netflix on Microsoft Edge or Explorer (browsers that manage to stream at 1080p, since firefox and chrome are limited to 720p), I get a single frame stutter every 30 seconds or so. The sound is not interrupted and the rest of the time the playback is smooth. I did a fresh install, I'm running the latest HD 530 driver from Dell, my laptop is in perfomance mode, hooked to the wall and to an ethernet cable. I can watch 4k videos on youtube just fine, but on Netflix I get this...

Secondly, I have a dreaded BOE panel and I have two backlight bleed spots. Is this normal? Should I should return my machine (I have 5 days to do so, no questions asked).

    Here's a pic below:

    Thank you very much!

Under Internet explorer settings and Advanced tab. Try disabling hardware acceleration. Maybe.

No. I had my service tag checked and the tech support said I have 960m. While the one given by the other guy doesn't come with 960m.

Hmm, got mine today, and I can confirm this. LG panel (LGD04D9 / 156UD2) also. What are the recommended steps now guys? I ain't wanting to get into the 'Dell lottery' again (been there too many times with PC monitors)

Sick and tired of quality not being up to, at least, 'standard', and if I have to give up on this, I will, this time.

    I'm assuming 4 options:

    1. Live with it and pretend I don't care. (I'm not the type)

    2. Ask who I bought it from for a £100 refund to save me the hassle, and also them, then return to option 1. (still not the type, but it would lessen the pain)

    3. Enter the Dell lottery. (which I am not prepared to do)

    4. Drink and die, and forget I even existed. (seems a lot easier ATM)

It really is comforting to hear, and it makes much more sense. The only possibility (I think) of it not coming with the Nvidia card would be if it was custom made for someone, and it would be quite a thing to omit in the description. Either way, the seller is clueless, Dell's support clueless and I'm just freaking out while waiting for it to arrive. If it won't have the Nvidia card though, my local PC store said they can install it for me in addition to the cooling system for it for about 200 bucks.

Wait. Isn't the LG the best panel? Could you tell me more about the ''Dell lottery"? Which panel were you hoping to get?

Also, would you say this is an acceptable ammount of backlight bleed?

Not as regards the 4K screen version, this exhibits the flickering problem. The Dell lottery you will find out about, when you send yours back with that awful backlight bleed, only to get another with the same, or worse problems.

The graphics is soldered on the mainboard so your local shop wont be adding the card for 200. You need to return the unit and hopefully the seller will understand your situation and help you in some way. If he doesnt just shows hes a heartless sob.

Can you see that light bleed once the computer is operating? I have seen that before and some monitors do that. Its never bothered me as once the computer is working you never notice it. You also have to remember that you purchased a budget gaming computer. Its sad the corporate greed causes them to instal budget components, but they would be shooting themselves in the foot if they tried to sell a expensive alienware with identical components as a budget machine.

The way I see it, you only have two choices. Live with it, or try and get a refund. You'll never win the "Dell lottery." The cards are always stacked against you and the house always wins. Dell will replace it with refurbished parts that have the same or worse problems.

I'm 100% with you about being sick and tired of shoddy quality. There is no such thing as quality control any more.

The LG panel is a crap pentile panel that dims/flickers when certain colors are displayed.

Also, $800 is not exactly a bargain bin. Not to mention the expensive Alienwares come with similar budget components and shoddy quality control.

Yup, its going back. They have agreed to refund me in full (including postage), after showing them this thread and a few other links. I'm not prepared to fight it out with Dell this time, nor take any chances. I've grown tired of that rigmarole now, and will look elsewhere for another brand. This will be my last ever dealings with them, although, I should have learned that a long time ago.

Backlight bleed acceptability is subjective, but in my opinion that's pretty bad.

In the options on the left side of the page in the 'Family' section, scroll down and select the Inspiron15 7559 and you will see them listed with a 2GB gfx card

    I think I found the one you mean ( https://gyazo.com/87c7b565625aba349359ab8da8e2be12 )
That's really odd, it may be wrongly listed or a model we haven't seen before. Either way 2GB should be plenty for 1080p on a 960M. So the performance should be the same if it really is a 2GB card.

More than enough. The 960m ain't gonna be running 'top end' games that require high texture load in ram anyway, well it just cant regardless, even if you have an 8Gb memory pool lol. 2Gb is more than this GPU will ever need ;)

Hell, my 980ti on desktop with 6Gb ram, never gets near the half way mark @ 2560x1440 on most games all whacked up. Think about it :)

Yes, most newer games are demanding more GPU ram these days, but regardless, the 960m ain't gonna run them anyway.

Gotta laugh at the 960m 4Gb marketing, lol. Honestly!

    Hi guys!
I am having problem with bluetooth with this laptop from day one - anybody else having issues with this maybe?

Thing is when I connect my bluetooth headphones and listen to music the sound is always cutting every now and than and is really annoying to enjoy the music like this. I have realized when I turn off the WiFi the problem goes away and sound streaming through bluetooth is ok than, no sound cutting anymore - like the WiFi card can't work simultaneously connected on internet via wifi and bluetooth mode in the same time.

Because of this I have changed the original wifi card with the Intel's AC 8260 card but the problem persist - no change.
So I am wondering where is the problem with the laptop than?

In case you are wondering is there maybe a problem with the bluetooth headset, they are fine - working great on smart phone and other devices without sound cutting.

Which is why the 960m is not made to run these high ram intensive games. If one wants to do that, then your looking at a minimum of a 970m, and I mean minimum. Even if the 960m had 4Gb+ ram, its not gonna work.

One cant use a scythe, and expect it to gut a field like a harvester ;) Were talking 'reality' here, lol!

Wanna play GTA V on a laptop?, sure, then go spend big money to do so, but this ain't one of them :)

Did somebody replaced the noisy fans or used software for better control of it? It feels very very loud under stress (e.g. in a game) ompared to my last ASUS. :(

Now I had tested the same game on same situation in battery mode, both fans are silent, max on first speed level, without quality reduce ingame. Shortly after plug in the powerline, fans are wind up. In energy settings cooling profile is passive and no cpu reduce is activated. Is there another switch I can try?

SpeedFan (v4.51) couldn't read fan rpm's despite activated dell mode, other programs shows the same effect. I had learned: What you can't measure, it can't be controlled. ;-) Any solutions?

I disagree. Go play Rainbow Six Seige on medium settings but with ULTRA textures. Works great, game looks far better and can only be run when you have the VRAM. With these settings it utilizes almost all 4gb VRAM. Without the extra memory availability you wouldn't be able to use the higher textures, and it comes with little to no FPS penalty.

I did a clean install of Win 10 and got all the drivers from Dell. My laptop sits on a coolermaster laptop cooler but I am not running the fans on the cooler. Just sits elevated with good air circulation under it.

I purchased this laptop a month ago, as soon as I got it I upgraded to 16gb of ram and upgraded to an SSD. But even with an SSD it took around 25 seconds to boot. Also I didn't like how Intel WIDI worked with Win 10, too laggy and lost functionality that allowed me to control the laptop with mi LG Smart tv magic remote. So I decided to install Win 8.1 pro and I'm so happy I did. It now boots in 8-10 seconds, Intel Widi works like a charm as well.

The only difference seems, I installed nvidia drivers direct from nvidia website. If the environment temperature is insufficient, fans should run, but not on highest level - on battery mode they don't, so I think there must be a "fault" in energy settings...

edit: I patched BIOS to 1.1.7

Sorry, yes i also run the latest nvidia drivers. Also updated to the latest bios. I can hear the fans kik up a bit when gpu is under load, but its barely noticable. I keep checking and my gpu temps never go over 60c. My machine is in my basement and its a cooler environment to start with. I dont have cooling issues on any of my machines down there. People who use there machines in hot climates probably need a laoptop cooler pad for sure.

Got a question about the bios on this laptop, are there any custom ones around the internet anywhere? I am trying to get linux to run without too many problems, can get it to start but certain things aren't working due to settings that need to be set from bios that are not there.

You need to go to Microsoft nd download Win 10 and put it on a USB stick. You need to go into bios settings to enable legacy boot device so the computer can see the USB stick. Once Windows is installed it automatically resets to only boot from SATA C drive. You dont need to use a key for Win 10 either. You do need to get all the drivers from Dell because you will need them to complete the install. I also went to Nividia and got last video drivers too.

Linux is a nightmare on this laptop. Power management is a train wreck and you may even shorten the life of the CPU by running Linux on it. Under Linux the skylake CPU does not go into deep power saving states. It's either a BIOS issue, Kernel issue, or both. I think it has something to do with this: https://mjg59.dreamwidth.org/41713.html

I've not been able to get the CPU past PC2.

Good luck finding a "custom bios", I highly doubt such a thing exists for this laptop.

I've seen other places that have tools to mod ami/aptio bios stuff, which is exactly what this laptop has, I have just never delved into low level moddinig like that before

have the bios loaded into mmtool, looks like it can be edited, curios where to find option roms

looks like someone on page 123 was having some luck

I thought CPU whining is a joke from very audiophile persons - so far. My 7559 whistles while the CPU has nothing to do. It's very annoying.I've wait up to 2 weeks for it for delivery so I defer send it back... Did anybody have the same problem? Did you solved it without returning to dell?

Same for me, 3-4 seconds total from pressing the power button to Win10 desktop. I swapped out the 1Tb HDD for a M.2 SSD boot drive and a 500Gb SSD storage drive.

What M.2 SSD do you installed? I've a Samsung 850 Evo and it takes 10 or more seconds to boot.

Today I use it in garden - the display (LG FHD) is bright enough for working. :)
