The Dell QuickSet software included with your system has an on-screen indicator of Caps Lock.
Get Windows 7 64 bit. There's really no reason anyone should be running XP on a new computer these days unless you're running 20 year old programs that just won't work with Vista/7.
A few of you were asking about the chainlink pattern...it really doesn't stick out at all. If you're not focused on it, you won't notice it.
Clickers beware, these pictures are huge; well over 2000px per side.
Don't let this pic scare you; I took it with flash on just to better illustrate the contrast:

This is more like what it actually looks like under normal lighting:

That means I could receive it on monday...... Lets hope.... My order date was the 30th. My receiving date is the 22nd... Have you tried to register your computer for the Windows 7 update? -
EDIT: Wait, my bad; didn't read the part about canada day specials LOL. I did the same thing! Hope it comes tomorrow/Monday. Does purolator function on weekends? -
I dont think they do shipping on weekends.... that's why I say Monday.... Hopefully we both get our systems Monday Junctioned. Lets cross our fingers.
My 6400 is still giving me stupid BSODs -
-
Awesome... I hope my computer will register without a problem too.... Dell better not screw up my order....
-
I just found out Purolator doesn't ship on weekends =(
EDIT: Snap, you beat me to it. I was actually looking it up...haha. -
Would the 500GB make the computer anymore heavier compared to the 320GB?
What about heat? -
I dont think the difference would be noticeable. Its not a huge difference. Get a faster HD not a bigger one.
if 320 isn't big enough..... look at external ones? -
honestly, I don't understand how people can fill up a 500GB harddrive. I'm using a 80GB desktop, and i have never gone past 30GB. Ironically, my studio thing comes with the 500GB, so now it pisses me off that it's heavier. =(

Those are the Options from Dell Canada. So if you were going between the 320gb and 500gb... go for the 320gb 72000 RPM instead.
Obviously options vary with your location... I know for instance the 900p screen isnt available in most places. -
-
500gb is the only option on the best spec base model, but if you choose the one down, you can choose other hard drives
-
Yea... Dell has funny promotions. Oh well. I'm getting the standard 250gb 5400rpm. Didn't really get a say in that. My computer that the 1555 is replacing only has a 120gb.... haha. I remember when we had 2gb hard drives, a pentium 133 and Floppy discs.... well i remember more than that... my parents even had a computer with a turbo button!
-
120GB?! My current Dell 9200 Laptop only has a 40GB HDD. LOL Technology goes so fast. -
What does a faster HDD mean? quicker boot up? less heat? -
-
I dont really know about heat. It probably generates a bit more because well... it moves faster. It also uses a bit more battery juice. But nothing too dramatic. -
A question. I got my computer today and it is already having a couple of problems. The computer is telling me that "windows defender" cannot start and GrooveMonitor cannot start? Any ideas on how to fix this?
-
-
How much performance difference is there between the 256MB vs the 512MB card? I don't really wanna spend the extra $100 if I don't have to...
Also during that 12 hour charging period when I first get it... can I use it? -
Thanks for the advice! I actually just solved the problem (thankfully...I would have been pretty upset if my hours-old computer was already having unsolvable problems!).
-
-
Can't help with the graphics card though. -
You don't need to charge for 12 hours the first time. Lithium ion batteries don't need to be calibrated like the old NiMH or NiCad batteries.
-
Scorpio Blue 500GB is another good hard drive, a lot faster than Seagate 5400.6 500GB. It even rivals the Seagate 7200.4 http://techreport.com/articles.x/17010
Personally I would trust Dell's advice as they probably know how to minimize battery returns. I would also make two deep cycles at the beginning. Not everyone agrees at the latter, but I've got very good experience with them; seeing the fully charged capacity raise. -
When you say two deep cycles; do you mean depleting the batteries 2 times FULLY?
Thanks. -
Also I recommend downloading RMClock, to read your 'Fully charged capacity' before you begin. That way you can observe any effects. -

My Dell is here , to say so , by "lotery" got Samsung 720 p lcd monitor
For now the only annoying thing is that blue is not blue
A user post earlier some settings to improve this thing , but I cannot find his post
Can you help me please
Regards -
Blue is not blue..... therefore it is feeling blue... and hence red?
I'm sure there could be a way to calibrate it or download drivers? I'm not really sure. I can't see how these screens can be that bad. Like I've seen many laptops, and really, unless you are really that picky or comparing side by side, only the budget computers really show a major downside. These Studio panels shouldn't be THAT bad....? -
On my computer looks natural , on Dell 1555 pannel is ....purple
What shoud I do , its annoying -
Now I am sorry for buying it , I shoud pick an Acer or something cheaper
-
-
My 1555 has the Samsung SEC5441 720p panel, and blues are very blue, not purple.
-
If you know what to modify please share
Thank you -

I guess everyone's making a big deal out of samsung screens cause it was like a random draw between AUO and samsung screens. -
Hey guys i need your help!
I'm about to order a Dell Studio 1555. I have decided for a nice setup but a have a HUGH dilemma.
720p or 1080p display?
I've heard so much good things about the 1080. But i think it all comes down to this:
I will play a few games on the laptop the first year. This probably will happen in 720p to get a smooth going. But how will games running in 720(or lower) resolution look on the 1080-native display? Will it be blurry as hell? Will my need to play games on lower resolutions make the 720p-display a better choice for me? Help! -
The pixels are so small on the 1080p screen that it's not a big issue to play in lower resolution.
-
Granted it won't make a huge difference if you don't follow Dell's instructions, but is it really that difficult to leave a brand new machine plugged in for twelve hours? -
I know it's what they say, but it's probably just to be on the safe side. I plugged my machine in for about 2 hours the first time, until it was fully charged, and unplugged it. It got about 6 and a half hours of life right off the bat.
@spett: I would go with the 1080p. Downscaling to 720p will not be very blurry.
@junctioned: Last time I checked, Columbus, OH was in North America. -
Get the 1080p. I haven't heard anyone complain about the 900p or 1080p screens... so i doubt you would be dissapointed.
Mastershroom - you get the chance to benchmark your computer with the T6400? -
Actually the 1366*768 from AU Optronics is quite good. 230 cd/m bright and 200:1 contrast. Chances are slim of getting it though. The Samsung panel seems a lot more common.

tipoo, is this in canadian or american dollars?
If it's canadian, i would think it's decent. I bought my studio1555 (after tax) for like $1400, but I have a better processor, graphics card, battery, backlit keyboard and harddrive than you. (so it sort of evens out) -
Thats Canadian. I hate sales tax
But i guess free healthcare balances it out -
btw, dell.ca has a sale on studio1555 right now; you can save $160.
