Below is my laptop configuration. I received it two days ago. Yesterday was the first time I was trying to insert a disc in CD drive. Unfortunately it didn't working. Is that a known issue with all DELL studio laptops.
My Dell Studio 1555 :
Core 2 Duo T6500 (2.1GHz) | 4GB RAM | 1080p LED | 256MB ATI 4570 | 320GB 5400RPM | Intel 5300 Wifi | 9 cell Battery | Back-lit Keyboard -
And you should call Dell...
EDIT: and get them to replace it. -
-
EDIT : Answered above..
-
Before you do that make sure you:
1. Ensure you have the latest drivers from the Dell website
2. Try different CDs, it could be the drive is fine but the disc itself is not. -
I've had this notebook for about 3 weeks now. I wiped the HD and installed Win7 RC (64bit) almost immediately, and installed all of the drivers that I thought necessary. I have to ask, what is "FastAccess"? -
FastAccess is the facial recognition software that you would have been able to purchase with the machine if bought direct from Dell.

Yesterday I was doing some video chat in skype. I received a call from one of my friends. When I clicked on Answer then my whole laptop stalled. I was not able do anything. My keyboard, mouse nothing worked... I had no other choice but I have to hard boot the system... Is that a problem with Skype or Studio laptop?

Hi; I have SPARE 130W 2.5Amp Dell power supplies that work with my XPS Gen 2.
They have the EXACT SAME plug as that of the 1555.
The only difference being that the adaptor for the 1555 is 90W, 1.5Amp.
So, can I safely use a 130W 2.5A adaptor on a computer that ships with a 90W 1.5A adaptor? -
My laptop came!!!
Estimated delivery date was August 12 but it came yesterday
Nice. In the US though... I'm in the Philippines... I need to have it shipped here... -
Haha... So i finally got home and have my Studio 1555... been sitting at home for 2 weeks as I was working in the field.
Anyways... from first glace... 1080p screen is very nice. Resolution is great compared to my WSXGA+... buch brighter. Touchpad... well It's not bad... but it feels too sticky for me... will need to get used to that... Keys are very nice and tactile. Overall look is good. Haven't really tested much out... and wont until the weekend when i can reformat. build is very nice though. Much nicer than the Inspiron 15. fan is running... but quietly... not really noticible. I'll do a small review and comparison with my 6400 later on. -
Hey guys,
Has anyone tried out CoD4/WaW on their 1555? Id like one for MSN/Internet/Movies/Light Gaming, and this seems perfect.
Thanks -
-
k... anyone know where the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi MB software is? It came with my system... I reinstalled windows and I dont know where the software is...
-
I'm very glad to hear.
I'll put in an order later today. /check eBay. -
So still dont know how to get the creative software... if anyone can help me it would be great.
But anyways... after doing a clean install... on start up and idle... my computer is at 56 processes... with about 33% physical memory being used and about... 8-15% cpu usage. Not too bad... the keyboard and touch pad are warm... but not uncomfortable. FastAccess is a bit finicky... hopefully it will adapt better... but it's kinda fun. Overall a solid working unit so far... -
about ur Creative software...i also lost it on doing a fresh install..but i got it back by downloading it from Dells Drivers and downloads page.. -
i had some problem with that software installation.. don't remember what it was.. not using it now.. -
So i just opened up the bottem panel on my laptop yesterday...Is that tiny little card realy the wireless card?! Its so freakin small!
Its like this:

lol, a perfect rendition. So what are the other two empty expansion slots beside it? One must be for mobile broadband, what about the other? -
-
Typically one might have wirelss, mobile broadband and a bluetooth connected up to those.

Hey, i just bought a new studio 1555 and everything great except when i double click on file or a program it seems to take a long time to respond, say 15-30 seconds. it looks like nothing happened then i try to double click on it again then the program or files opens up twice. if anyone could help id really appreciate it.
incase it matters my specs are: 2.1ghz, 250gb hd & 4gb ram -
Check in task manager , maybe you have something that is taking all resources -
HI.
I'm looking in to buying the dell studio 1550 but am concerned about fan noise. Can anyone please tell me at what core temperature your studio 1550 system fans kick on. I want to know the thresholds basically. Presumably since these computers are on PM45 chipsets they will be something like 44C kick on 33C kick off. is that right?
Also, is there an option to change the fan temp thresholds in bios? Has anyone had success using programs like speedfan or i8fangui to control these thresholds?
I'd get the P8600 2.4ghz with 512mb graphics so for that model in particular how often do the fans have to kick on during normal light use (ie web browsing, using word etc?) Is it something like every 20 minutes they kick on or is it even more frequent? and for how long do they stay on at a time?
Thanks. -
There were a few threads about the fan temps etc about two weeks back. I think the fan kicks in around 45C so you might be right with 44C. Not sure when it turns off though.
Honestly I think the fan is very quiet. I don't even notice it turning on until I feel it on my thighs. Could be because the system is new and theres no dust build up yet, and the only time I really hear the noise is when I'm playing a game. Under normal use I don't notice it via sound since its a much lower rpm. -
Has anyone notice the Battery Status Light indications?
The little booklet says when the Battery is charging, the LED is solid white, when its almost fully charged, its flashing white. I've never seen it flashing white and I was looking at it at 99% and it wasn't flashing white. I looked away for maybe a minute and then it became 100% and the light turned off. How long does the led stay flashing white? -
Mine never flashes white either. I'm sure that booklet is just copied and pasted from and older model for which that is true. It's either solid on while charging, or completely off when complete.

no you cant...at least not If you have any common sense.

Has anyone tested Compiz (under Ubuntu for example). Does it run flawlessly on 1080p display (1920x1080 resolution)
?

i downloaded a 720p and 1080p movie from online and when i try to play it on my new studio 1555 it starts off working but if i try to skip forward at all it freezes for several minutes or longer and i end up closing it and if i try it with the 1080p movie the same thing happens but this time i get a popup saying i dont have enough ram. is there something wrong with the way dell installed my ram?
i've got 4gb ram, 250 gb hd and 2.1ghz processor running on vista -
Well, I've had my 1555 for almost a month now. Been running Win 7 RC pretty much since I got it.
Overall I am very happy with it, after the initial quality control oversight. If I had to do it over again, the one big thing I would change is I wouldn't get the edge-to-edge display again. The display is fine, but man it picks up everything from the keyboard and palmrest area. Any oily residue from those areas finds its way onto the glass when the notebook is closed. It's a bit annoying, basically large smudges where the palm rest is, and outlines of the edges of the keys in the center of the screen.
Anyway, I've noticed lately some clicking from the hard drive, never a good sign... All is working (and backed up) now, but I think I'm going to need a replacement. Any advice on how I should present this to customer support, seeing as it hasn't actually failed yet? -

How reliable is Dell's outlet? I mean, are the "Certified Refurbished" items usually in good condition and do they ship fast?
Oh, and do laptops ordered from the outlet come with the Windows 7 upgrade coupon? -
-
Outlet laptops do not qualify for the Windows 7 upgrade, unfortunately. -

Outlet laptops do qualify for the Windows 7 upgrade. Here's the link: http://www.dell.com/content/topics/.../dfh/windows-7-consumer?c=us&cs=22&l=en&s=dfh -
I was just thinking...If the Soundblaster software edition is entirely done through software, whats to stop me from downloading it and enjoying the benefits without paying?
