RichardT, I dare you not to check the status of your order for 3 whole days....... ;)

Each of the various stages has a variable amount of time it can take, and it's all down to part availability and workload. If it's gone into production that fast then it's definitely a good sign, but in itself it doesn't mean that much. You're really waiting for the "shipped" stage; that's when you can pretty much add X days (depending upon where you live) and it will be there by then.

Sevenofnine - I too like the Mac OS, I have a macbook air that I use for travelling with. However, just as Macs don't run Windows as well as a windows based machine, I suspect you'd probably find the same vice versa.

Do a google search and you'll probably get more info; unfortunately I can't discuss any further in these forums.

3 days ?!? Haha,There is no way i could do that,I think I've already checked it about ten times today!

I'm just going to base all my hopes on Jid's sig

    "27/08/09 - Processing
    27/08/09 - Pre Production
    01/09/09 - In Production (finally!)
    03/09/09 - Delivery Prep
    03/09/09 - Shipped! (Wooohooo)"

I'm already 4 days quicker than his schedule but hopefully the rest will be the same :D

Had to sell my samsung NC10 for this,Possibly my PC and an old phone to fund it,Better be good :)

You were lucky, I had to wait 5days for production, it all depends on if all parts are ready etc.

You could be in production a week, or a day or two. It entirely depends on the parts and order load.

As soon as it ships, as Fragile told me, 2-3days is normally how long it takes to get to you, but could be sooner for you as you are in Ireland... ;)

My Walsh Western Tracking hasn't appeared yet so I am waiting on a phonecall to tell me the delivery date. As Fragile says, don't look at the tracking all the time, otherwise it drives you insane as the order doesn't progress (I should know!). You will be pleasantly surprised when you come home to find - Stage 5 Delivery showing up! :D

I ordered one of the stock models on the dell site,The middle version and all I did was just add a backlit keyboard,I though €40 was a bit crazy for it,But after thinking for a while I decided I may as well go for it or I'll torture myself when I see pics of the backlit keyboard..

So time will tell,As for not looking at the site,I cannot do that I'm one of these people who needs to know where it is etc,Just in case it ends up in the wrong place :)

Shouldn't be long now. They called me 3 days after mine was shipped and delivered the next day. I've had mine since Thursday and the Walsh Western tracking site never showed the delivery status for my order, it kept saying the numbers don't match.

I would say give it 1-2 more days depending on your location.

    Hello,

    Me again...!

I was wondering if anyone had had any specific experience with ordering certified refurbished Studio laptops from the dell outlet store ? Other posts on this website seem to give good reviews. Is the price of laptops in the outlet store related just to components or to do with blemishes as well?

    Thanks.

There are some great deals lurking on the outlet store.

If you read through these forums you will see that Dell Refurbs are pretty good. I wouldn't know regarding blemishes etc but the prices are usually related to the components but cheaper than buying a laptop with the same spec new ;)

    Same here!
Shipped Thursday and no tracking!

Fragilexx told me on another thread they usually take 2-3business days after shipment for delivery (thats on average). Which for us would be either be Monday or Tuesday.

However bare in mind the Dell Order Status page states:-
Which indicates to me it can be upto 5business days for delivery...

You are called by an automated system by Walsh Western either 24 or 48hours before the delivery date to confirm the date, could someone confirm the time before the call?

Also I am not sure whether they will call on a weekend or only weekdays...

I am on my second outlet laptop and both times it has been a 'scratch & dent' and both times they have have looked as new - this current 1555 has a tiny rub mark on one of the corners but they don't sell anything less than pristine machines to the original buyers.
Given that I saved up to £600 on this spec depending on which model you customise on Dell's site, I think Outlet really is the way to go if you can find the spec you are after.

    Hi Donka,

Yeah I agree, seems like there's some really good deals going on in there. Thanks for the input. Do you know if outlet laptops are eligible for Windows 7 upgrade yet? I saw a notice a couple of weeks saying that they weren't yet but haven't seen it since.

    Thanks!

Depends which country you are buying from. The UK site: http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/default.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=dfo& has the following words on it's entry page

    Hi Fragilexx,

Yes, i'm buying from the UK - followed your link, had a good scour - I couldn't find that message! Even used Find... Any idea when they might start offering it? I guess only once they start shipping laptops with Windows 7 on?

    Thanks.

I got an UK Outlet Studio 1555 at the start of August and when I put in the details for the upgrade page it was there and I have now registered for the free Windows 7 upgrade. The original order date of my machine was the end of July which is why the system ID was available for the Windows 7 upgrade but ymmv. It also took about a week after receiving my Studio that the ID showed up in the Windows 7 Upgrade database so if you get an Outlet machine, keep trying the web site every few days until it shows up one way or the other.

I think he was only "registering his interest" about getting a windows 7 upgrade,You pay P&P* at a later stage..

*Its seems for me the upgrade is free and you just pay to get it to you,Should be the same for everyone I'd assume

My service tag still isn't being recognised by Dell's website so I can't register for the Win7 upgrade. It's been 3 days, should I get in contact with them or wait a bit longer?

    Hi Fragilexx,

Ahh that explains it - the link you gave me take me to a different page to the one you kindly exported to imageshack. Thanks for your help.

Donka, thanks for the info - sounds very promising! That's pretty much the only thing holding me back from getting a laptop from the outlet store.

You guys are so helpful! thanks.

    Hey guys.

I just got my Dell Studio 1555 a couple of days ago and I'm loving it. I've got the 720p, Intel Core 2 Duo 2.00Ghz, 500gb HDD, 4GB RAM, ATI Radeon 512Mb 5470 version.

I recommend anyone looking for a new laptop get this. Fantastic value.

EDIT: I got it from the Dell Outlet so I didn't get the chance to add the backlit keyboard option. Does anyone know where I can purchase one? Thanks.

I think your warranty would be void doing this,Depending on the machine,You may have to remove the whole bottom of the laptop and then some keyboard screws,Or like my Old HP laptop it took seconds to remove,When I get mine i'll have a quick look and see if I can figure it out,Although there might be a tutorial somewhere..

No problem,Can't wait to see what the backlit keyboard will be like when I get mine :)

You can take apart, replace and put back together pretty much most of your notebook, and the original parts will likely still be covered by the warranty. Just that Dell can potentially state that the damage was done when you upgraded x component, or the damage was due to x component not being compatible.

For guides for the Studio 1555, try this link http://support.euro.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/studio1555/en/SM/index.htm

No, some manufacturers still put secure seal labels over parts of your notebook, and Apple for example are notorious for not having user replaceable parts.

    Hey All,

Got my 1555! Very happy with it so far. I just had a question that maybe someone could help me with. I got the 512mb video card installed on it and when I go into system information I see under the display tab I see in the Adapter RAM section 512.00 MB which seems good. But then I go into Catalyst Control Center and under the Graphics Hardware tab under Memory Size it reads 238 MB with a memory type of "Hyper Memory"... does anyone know why they would be different? Does that in fact mean something different and I'm just being stupid?

Any help would be appreciated! The only reason I even noticed is because once I rebooted and got a message about Vista going to the Basic color scheme.

Can I ask when Dell sent you laptop for delivery? My customer number doesn't work on Walsh Western but it was only sent yesterday evening so it may just be a delay.
