To add salt to the wound. The first batch will undoubtedly be full of problems. While Asus, HP, Sony, Lenovo, etc.. all have months to worked out the kinks. The new XPS will have to be really good, not just good. Good is not good enough.

Dont get your hopes up. Might even be something simple a m1530 chassis with monetevina and 9600m GT. Im more looking forward to what they plan for the m1730.

To be honest I'd like it if they were keeping the XPS casing (I feel as though the XPS line offers a lot more in terms of style and design than Dell's other offerings like the Studio range).

The original powerpoint slides suggest that the new Studio XPS will be more like the Studio line (which currently has ATI graphics and have just switched to montevina for their more expensive models), perhaps with a few changes to separate the two.

Is it likely that Dell with announce the new line official prior to the swap (so will it be possible to see the new line and compare it to the existing XPS's)?

i think m1530 with GPU and CPU refresh would be the best option for many people... But they are EOL already... so i dont think there will be any refresh...

My info is that new xps studio line would be introduced with its technical specs... so i think it will be possible to compare it with current ones....

ofcourse they will be introduced with technical specs.. ? lol. even the roadmap shares a little bitty of stuff.. it does say hybrid SLI.. for sure montevina.. it does say OPTIONAL RGB LED!!!!!!! not led backlit.. RGB LED.. so ya we will see some technical advances in the XPS line.

wow, is that for a 17" or 16"? sounds interesting.
i dont think i can offer rgb led though, a white led 1920x1080 16:9 lcd option would make more sense in an xps .

I think the RGB is a bit of an overkill for this line. If you are going to be in that sort of business you are probably better suited with the Precision line where it is offered.

well they do have on precision and will offer it as an OPTION on these XPS's well hell why not? its an option not a standard! hehe.. at least you should get a led backlit or rgb led.. to choose from.. a first

Yeah a choice is good, but it is just going to mud things up. If you think people constantly asking about which resolution is best just wait until they ask whether or not to get WLED or RGBLED. Consumers really don't need RGBLED.

but xps's are for pros that need to have a multimedia pc also.. so.. u get me? like me.. i dont want a precision.. because i use my laptop for jobs and for casual home use.. so its a mid term.

Well, IMO it should be offered for the heck of it. It doesn't really matter that people don't need it, but if you give people the option for it, then there's nothing to complain about. (ie, if the screen looks bad... then that's more because you chose that option rather than it being called a design flaw, which is a much safer route for Dell... unless both screen types on the Studio XPS stink. XD)

i was planning to buy an xps m1530, then i saw the rumors about the new ones...
i jus want something that is able to play modern games, 256mb at least
no real prefernce on video card, ati or nvidia with ddr3 memory,
Hope the new line is AS affordable as the old ones.
and is it a 16inch or 16.4 inch xps studio?

Very unlikely. We'll probably get the same setup as the new MBP, a Nvidia 9400M & a Nvidia 9600M GT (hybrid SLI graphics). Now, the Studio 17 may have a better chance of getting the ATI 4650 HD. But then a "regular" Studio model would have a better GPU than a "higher-end" Studio XPS model and that wouldn't make sense. It would make more sense if the Studio 17 got the 3850/70.

Anyway, in 4 days we'll know (hopefully) who won the highly anticipated election and in about 11 days or so we'll know the specs on the highly anticipated new Dell models.

anyone got links to the proformance and specs of these new ATI cards.
if they are like the pc versions, they will be great.

the 4850/70 in pc's are great, so lets hope if these lot are good, they replace the 9600m gt..

hell no, if dell's new version of xps laptop doesn't meet my expetation, i will go with other brand, it's really disappointing they came out three months late for the newest intel chip on their current xps 1530 compare to their competitors such as hp, sony, and everyone else out there on the market.

oh, i heard hp gives nothing but problems so i kinda want to stay away from them.
    sony is too expensive.
dell kinda just falls right in my budget,
and the xps m1530 looks great IMO,
maybe dell was just waiting to put the cheaper an better ati mobile cards in there,
or maybe waitin for montevina prices to drop a bit so the studio xps' wouldnt be outrageously expensive...who knows i'm just speculating........just gotta wait and see

They've recently slashed the prices of the M1730 in the UK Dell site, citing that they're about to get rid. But something tells me it might be the last dell SLI gaming notebook =[]

Dell is just dumb but they are the best I think in innovaton (i.e. slot-load drives standard, back-lit keyboard, LED screens).

They still haven't upgraded to Montevina, they over-charge on old technology like for the Intel X3100 and ancient slow CPU's, they don't care, their QC is abysmal. Dell needs to get the ball rolling, considering HP is still somehow #1 with thier over glossed crap computers. Even Dell expects you to spend big with their crapified Dell Studio 17 on their website. The specs make me want to kill myself.

At least for me is hard to tell. Gateway has its flaws (Heating problem with P-7811FX) and Asus has its own problems with the G50Vt-X1.

My best bet is Dell and since I'm in the market for a new computer I'm getting a bit anxious not knowing about the new line.

Try to stay away from affiliating yourself with a brand. There is a good product at each price range and for what you are looking for and none of it can go to a brand. IMO atm the best 13 inch is the Sony Z or macbook, best 17 inch on a price to performance is the gateway(thats a gaming laptop when i talk 17 inches), and 15 inches I wouldn't be too sure about. I mean no company holds down a whole line and as for 14 inches it's the lenovo T400. But people have their differences on choices as well so whatever. Some just want a laptop which then they can buy anything as long as it works while I need something that can performance to batterylife it up.

Just how bad is Hp? i KEEP hearing bad things, but ive never owned one myself so i dont know.
i feel what you're saying about dell overcharging tho and also with the ancient cpus,
wth am i gonna doing with a CORE DUO in this day and age?
but in my country they have THE most dealers down here, so if something went wrong with your dell, its like "pssh, call em 2mrw have them come look at it."
with hp its like...." awww S#$@, gotta ship this back to circuit city in miami "..or so ive heard.
    r.i.p circuit city btw :p

anyways, hurry up with the announcements dell ;)

HP is horrendous, they should be out of the computer buisness! Everytime I am in a store like Best Buy, Circuit City, Fry's, etc... it's always an HP being fixed, ALWAYS. They are extreamly mass produced and HP gets "new" models out the door ASAP without thinking about fixing hinge cracking, overheating, screen blowouts, component degeneration, etc... It's HP's fault for this gloss trend going on with a lot of lasptops these days. HP wants to go even glossier. Clearly (no pun intended), they are mirrors, therefore they are for women. I shouldn't have to look at a computer to see myself, that's what a mirror is for!

As for Dell, they WILL NOT start selling new systems until everyone has bought their overpriced outdated hardware on their consumer laptops. They must have tons of stock left even though they order on a "as needed" basis. Dell is dumb, and clearly doesn't care. Also, once the new systems come out, if they even do at Dell's pace, most of them will be returned because Dell does Quality Control through customers and then fixes, not internal.
