Bah...who cares about the 16...such an awkward number, between 15 and 17..

I am more interested in the 13 and hopefully that will be out soon.

...ok... qaz... I just want to clear up the air regarding Hybrid SLI.

Current operating systems do not support Hybrid SLI, SLI, Crossfire, or whatever NATIVELY. Microsoft is not and does not need to be responsible for including drivers in their OS for another company's products, in this case ATI and NVIDIA's GPUs.

It's far better this way since the companies themselves are responsible for making and updating the drivers rather than the OS providers.

I don't know about you, but I would rather NVIDIA be in charge of making updates for it's own hardware rather than relying on MS to do all their work for them.

Perhaps dell is waiting for CES 2009 and will introduce the new laptops there? early january, 8-11. Just a thought.

Wouldn't that be like suicide for dell?
Their xps line appears to be winding up (took long enough)
The two studio's they have, at best are describable as over- priced.

...Wow... if the Studio XPS 16 comes in at 2k... I don't even want to know what the smaller 13 will come in at. >_<

    EDIT:
givemanick, that's even worse. That means they were delayed for a year and not a couple months. :p lol.

No, that was a Dell concept NBR got hands on at some convention last year/early 2008.

That is not the final design, just a mockup as there were hardly any 16in back then.

The article was published in January 15th 2008, like 8 months before any details of new models from Dell came to light.

I would buy Sony Z, but price 3000$ is too much for me :( I am thinking about Macbook too, but still it's 2000$ in my country. I really don't understand why are things cheaper in USA when you get more money... My month pay is like 800$ even less...

Jayson, Are we still expecting XPS 16" to start selling in November?

I have not read back the last few pages, but a few days back it felt like the XPS 16" had been delayed.... Is this still the case? As of today i have my money for my new laptop, I'm really wondering if leaving it another week will see any difference on the Dell side of things.

I am in the same situation as you - I really dislike OS X but I was going to get MBP so that I can get the backlit keyboard and hybrid graphics card. If the Dell doesn't become available soon then it's the MBP by default.

I wish I could get something else but those are my only 2 options.

When one sale ends another begins. Stop saying that the sales will mark a new laptop or there would be over 50 laptops released each year by Dell.

    I have to agree.
I was really hoping for Dell to get their act together and give us some solid details on the XPS's during this week, I'm still hoping for the next week, but my gut tells me it might be hopeless. I'm really dissapointed with Dell and they should be dissapointed in them selves because waiting so long with the new XPS's, can't be good for them.
I'm willing to wait til beginning of December, then I have to trade in my old Toshiba Satellite... if no new XPS by then, I'm gonna have to start looking around...

Well....I think I'm going to have to go another route because looking at the XPS and the coupon expiring on 10 Dec 08, that probably means nothing till January because the turn around time and getting packages to people might be a problem.

Although I believe it to be a bad decision, I think Dell doesn't want a flood of sales before Christmas with all the cutbacks maybe because it might slow down orders as some people might expect their computer before Christmas.

Who knows but again, I don't know if I can wait that long for another system. I plan on buying 2 but I really would like to have the 9600 video card, Montevino chipset and backlit keyboard.

And thus my dilema with Apple because they have all of that. Hmm...c'mon Dell - at least introduce your product.

I was in dell showroom yesterday again... and spoke with the guy from there... The new studio xps line is ready to be released because its development has already finished... And he said that he dont know what is dell waiting for... Probably stock issues of m1530 and m1330... And another important point.. He did say that new xps will go down with performance and also with design(including materials). As dell is owner of alienware they want to keep hands off the consumers line and focus on bussiness line... So good question is if it is worth waiting for this new XPS or rather get some notebook from other brand...
