i'm thinking its going to be the 9600 m gt... Along the lines of the lg s510. If its in final stages of production the graphics card would have been chosen
-
Hm really?
I hear though that the 9650M seems to be better suited for notebooks... I think it was something about slightly lower power draw? -
-
Jesus I really hope it doesn't have an ati
Sure way to lose a lot of customers -
How can ATI cards repulse potential customers? In fact I feel people are so much disgusted with Nvidia's handling of those frying card problems, they don't want to take a risk. The frying cards were more evident in notebooks because thermal management of most models are shoddy.
My next notebook surely is going to be an ATI based model . I have suffered enough. I will go for the new models from Dell if they have ATI cards. -
I'm with Pranalien here. After having multiple Nvidia 8400m chips go bad on me, it will be pretty hard for me to trust Nvidia again. There is no excuse for how badly they dealt with that problem. I'm hoping for ATI graphics on the Studio XPS laptops. -
GUYSSs...!!!!! Looks like predection after all was true..DELL has launched Studio XPS DESKTOP in UK.....dnt know when they launched..checked today...and its there....SURELY STUDIO XPS LAPTOP will Follow..worth a wait.....dnt U THNK
-
-
they launched them a few days ago, already available in the states for a while i think
-
Well... having had cards from both sides of the camps I can say this much.
ATI driver support stinks.
My old old old Dell Dimension Desktop has an ATI in it... and nothing but Dell's Stock Driver ever could be installed. I tried to update it with a new Catalyst driver which ATI said was compatible, but because Dell messed with the card somehow, IT WOULDN'T WORK.
Same thing again on my Inspiron 6000 that I bought 3 years ago.
I current have an NVIDIA 8800 GT in my custom built rig (yaaay for DIY) and NVIDIA's drivers are just more manageable (that and Dell didn't get their stinking hands on my 8800 GT).
From my use of Dell and ATI, if Dell makes the drivers un-upgradeable or incompatible with ATI's updated drivers... then forget Dell. If they do this to NVIDIA cards too... then forget Dell altogether. I haven't had the chance to own/use something with an NVIDIA GPU in a Dell, so I can't say for sure. However, I'm liking NVIDIA's general driver suport a lot more than ATIs, even if ATI is leading the field in desktop GPUs right now.
Speaking of which... don't ATI mobiles drain more power than NVIDIA mobiles? -
Bringing up old examples is hardly relevant. In the Studio you can use the Catalyst driver straight from AMD.
-
So Dell finally smartened up and let you use ATI's actual drivers instead of hackjobing your GPU so that it could only ever use Dell's driver off their support site?
THANK GOD. -_-
Yea... so then the issue is power drain I guess. I have no idea though when it coems to mobile GPUs. Though... ATI probably has a slight edge on performance over NVIDIA... especially since Steam games are so popular... -

Ok, I agree, now I am waitint for new details from ladycloud
-
I'm more interested in hearing from the Moderator whether the IP addresses for Jayson = Ladycloud
That would be bigger news than any info on the new XPS. -
A mod already said they don't match.
-
Sorry. I must have missed that post. You just ruined my day.
-
I was thinking that it would be interesting to know when the NDA expires...
-
It seems to me that the new XPS will be introduced after Thanksgiving..in time for Black Friday? If they really are going to be released in November..
-
Some companies give important info "on purpose" to random friends of the company workers and tell them they are under NDA wink wink. They are relying on the stupid ones to spread the info on the internet and for that company to generate publicity. For example; Apple. All the leaks of the new bodies for the Macbook and Pro created so many stirs and way more people were interested in the launch.
-
It feels like there are very few knowledgeable people on this thread. It's like half of the people keep thinking new products release when deals end and the other half just say random misguided information when they know little to nothing about what they are talking about.
I've never been more disappointed in a company until now. I mean every other company at least will LEAK you something usually if a new product is coming out soon. It seems dell would rather have us just take our business elsewhere since apparently they wanna live in 2007. -
Funny, though, how NOT LEAKING can result in a world record setting thread length anyways.
If I switched companies everytime that something did not agree wioth what I personally thought the company should do, boy, I would have switched back and forth to MAC and Linux and Windows about ten thousand times.
I have tried each, maybe not the MAC so much as I do not own the hardware. And I stick with Windows, and go along for the ride. For the most part enjoying it. I do the same with Dell.
Being in the consulting/repair business, one thing I really appreciate with Dell is their warranty service and their "backend" to keep track of what is in my client's computers. This means I do not have to do this. Let's here it for the "Service Tag"! Yes, others have similiar, but I think DELL does it best. Everything right there when I need it. This alone has saved me much time and aggrevation over the years.
I really want to see what this new laptop has. But since I am not going to buy it day one no matter what it has, I can, for once, unlike SSD's, afford not to get too caught up in the wait. So, come on SSD's, let's get the price down and usability UP so I can get one, or two.
And yes, as per my sig, I currently have a Lenovo, but I flip back and forth, becasue I like a change and respect both companies products -
-
-
-
booboo12 my point precisely! In my humble estimation this is responsible for Dell's success to a greater degree that one might think.
-
If you buy based on the company you are crazy... I look at whats out and what is coming out and buy. I vary few brand loyalties when it comes to making something perform. I simply read the reviews, look at upcoming products, and buy.
-
I haven't bothered to keep up since. -
I think the tread title should be changed to Never coming soon!
-
So I'm kinda hoping for a 4000 series in the 16" XPS. -

1500 posts on nothing other than a rumour! this is legend.
I really hope something happens soonish, luclily though I'm not in a rush about ordering till after christmas. -
Where the hell is Jayson? Has he been impounded cause of breaking NDA? Or has he finished his "dirty work" and left NBR forever. Or maybe he is just too busy to reply.
This thread should be called "New Dell Notebooks Speculation Thread". -
The 8600GT, 9600GT, 9650GT consume about 20-23 Watts. The 3650 and 3670 consume about 30 Watts.
The 9400M consumes 12 Watts, I don't know if this include the rest of the Northbridge though. -
The difference in heat output between NVIDIA discrete chips and ATI discrete chips is actually quite noticable. Now more lower end or business laptops having the 3470 as an option, I've always asked people to steer clear of those and opt for the X4500M, or buy something with 9200/9300M for better battery life and lower operating temperatures

Mr Dell, its already too late!
I just bought my new Sony Viao Z last week and this baby rocks !!!
First time away from Dell. Dell, you need to catch up! -
-
Sony came up with the answer, the Sony Z with high resolution 13" Led screen, Light weight etc and most importantly, Build Quality.
Hasta la vista Dell!
Sony, whens the Back lit keyboard coming. -
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
-
And what do you think of the comment by "ladycloud"? (post #1417 & 1419) -
If the Sony Z looks as good in person as the MacBook then I think I'll get one of those. I never been just completely blown away by the appearance of a laptop until now.
I just have to wonder how investors of dell are thinking. I mean this just is not good business at all. If tech junkies don't like dell it slowly filters down to the mainstream with time. -
All i know is that dell has had problems with this model in concept/production stages.. and they wouldnt want to deliver a bad product. -
Well. I am not sure when this model will be released by Dell but the testing phase is short. I don't work for Dell but for a private company and as such only 10 people across the world in different countries are getting the model. I clearly don't care whether people regard what i say as true or false. The simple fact was that Googling this particular model brought me to this site because i was curious to know what i was getting.
Yes! I am scared of breaking the NDA because i have signed a contract with Dell/private company. I can face a serious legal issue and i have no idea whether the mods/admins of this site will backtrack me and give out my ip address or not. I don't even have any interest in any Dell products because i don't use any, i am just a tech enthusiast I figured to post here to help people out thats about it.
From what I can make out, dell has no plans of releasing this in December since they pretty much expect us to enjoy this laptop during the holiday season. Thats what i can infer but i could be wrong atleast this is what it was mentioned there.
peace -
But what about the next week thing, that you told us to wait? Will they reveal the specs of the laptop... or will you do it?
-
Dell I am getting very bored at waiting for a Studio XPS laptop.
Given we now have a Studio XPS desktop I really think we are going to see an announcement next week. Not based on any knowledge to be clear other than the current situation doesn't make sense.
At a minimum Dell need to release a statement saying they are having some teething problems and want to ensure a completely smooth launch so delaying it. If they have faith it's going to be a killer machine then release the specs at the same time.
This will stop them losing so many sales. I stood in the Sony shop today and if it wasn't for the fact that I find the FW a horrible looking machine I would have bought one as it fits my needs.
Also the website here in the UK is beginning to look stupid. The XPS laptops have a badge saying latest technology which clearly isn't true.
In fact Dell if you don't release something in the next week then maybe I should report you to trading standards due to false advertising
That could force them to at least update the site to say "XPS - old technology at a premium price, don't buy this or your mad" -

Seems to me if they were going to release a laptop for the holiday season they'd have done it by now == studio 12
small, cheap, perfect for christmas pressies etc.
I'm starting to become a bit pessimistic about dell releasing the new studio's, Its kind of a pitty really, I'd like to have at least had the option.
Now I'm going to have to go and buy something like a sony, samsung or a toshiba - yep desperate, but havn't any time left to wait around and I need to get a lappie this week. Weak effort Dell, very weak. -

Oh no, the 1530 as is, is my baby - I'll prob get something a bit more powerful gaming wise, when I upgrade next.
I'm getting the studio 16 for someone else, well I'd like to get it - though that depends on whether it comes out or not.
I was originally thinking of getting them the studio 17, but I'd hate to get it, then have this new one come out the next daywhich would be my luck.
-
i see your predicament... sad that even if they release specs now, january is still too far away ;(
