cus its a new line of laptop and maybe they have problem build then. . . just maybe
-
Why? They're the same thing, just different colors. And the inspiron comes with like 6 color choices anyways.
-
so does any one know if the RAM slots will be located next to each other or will they have one under the keyboard and one under a latch...i plan to install 4GB and id rather it not be that invasive.
-
From what I heard the 1400 has them both on the bottom and the 1500 has one under the keyboard.
-
yeah..i got the 1500...but after looking at sirius GTO's guide for the latitude, it doesnt seem that bad.
-
You got 1500 means have you received it?
-
lol i dont think he got it . . we not going to see it arrive at list antil next week or more . . after the 25th
-
I already downloaded the owner's manual for the 1500 so I could know what I was getting into. Yes, one of the RAM slots is on the bottom and the other is under the keyboard.
You can get the manuals fby going to support tab->manuals and selecting the system you want to look at. -
lol...no no no..mines going to be shipped august sixth...i wish i had it...does any one know if its difficult to replace the ram in the inspiron..because i saw the guide to change the ram in the latitude but i figure the inspiron would be a closer match.
-
Which model? You can use the method I showed to look up the manual and see for yourself.
Looking at the 1520 though, there is one under the keyboard and one in the back. -
My 1500 has been in the build stage for 3 freaking days ... am I part of a test project to see if they can save money by going from SE Asian labor to chimpanzees?
-
ha ha, today will be my second day of build stage.
just think, once this stage is over it is off to shipping (basically) -
Mine (INSPIRON 1720 be a riot if I didn't clear that up) took over a week to build... three days is a good start i guess, but mine tested and boxed in less than a day so that made up for it

Is there a wait list for Vostros?
-
wait list? well... no one has it yet, and it came out the 10th this month.
I ordered mine monday night and it is supposed to ship the 8th of august. -
AmazingGracePlayer Notebook Deity
I want to order an 1500, and I want it to have 512MB of RAM and then buy and install and 2GB card (so total 2.5G RAM)... I know having more RAM is better, but do you think that'll have any negative impact?
-
i dont see how upgrading would be bad. Should be just as good as ordering 2.5 gig.
-
AmazingGracePlayer Notebook Deity
I was afraid that some RAM chips will not be compatible with the computer/the other chip even if they operate at the same speed...
-
FWIW, I ordered on 7/13 and my 1400 has been in the "Build" stage since Tuesday....
T5470
1gb DDR2 (ordered 2x1gb from Fry's for $70)
120gb HD
DVDRW
8400M GS
WXGA+ with TL
Bluetooth
Integrated Webcam -
My 1400 has been in the build stage since atleast monday. On the phone I was told it would be a 10 day build, which I thought surely they were just saying so it could be built and arrive early. But now I don't know if that will be true.
-
In the 1500 manual it says if you want to receive the 'dual channel' benefits of the ram you must have equal size ram chips in each slot. So a .5 gig and a 2 gig ram chip will work, but IMO having 1 gig in each slot would not only be cheaper but faster and more efficient as well.

Why is vostro not available to EPP customers?
-
^Because it is only available through Dell Small business...
-
There's a thread up about a Chinese guy who's already received his Vostro. Seems there's a Dell rep on that forum accellerating members' orders. Hmmm, any idea why we're stuck in "production" for days on end?
-
Wow. I ordered mine on wednesday and the ship date is August 6. How did that happen?
-
Build stage takes atleast 10 days to complete. Mine went into build on thursday.
-
Well, a 2GB chip of the same type as what ships is 129.99 at crucial.com, while a 2GB kit is 105.99. Of course, I'm going to upgrade to 4GB next spring (probably in January). The current price for that kit is 259.99.
-
hey guys help me in somthing....when i chack my status on line my order is "In Production" but when ever i call dell on thr phone my status is on "build stage".
what the hell is the right one ? -
Build stage is a stage of the production status. After build, it will go to testing, then boxing, then the status will change to shipped.
-
What thread? whats the link?
-
nevermind. I found it.
-
It had better not -- I'm made enough over a damned August 2nd ESD.
-
mine was supposed to have a 10 day build, but i think it will be less. that should be the maximum.
-
Free Microsoft Office Live Basics
can anyone tell me what that is? It says that was shipped to me the day i ordered, which was last monday, but i still haven't gotten it.
I have no idea. I didn't order anything extra. -
Hmmmm, I can cancel my 1500 order and get the 1700 for $130 more... I've ordered a 160gb 7200rpm drive which would be primary and the 160gb 5400rpm drive can be secondary. I could put the 2 gigs of RAM I bought into my gf's laptop. It's a desktop replacement for me, not going to be hauled around much. The highe resolution screen is a $150 option, a bit too pricey. I got the 1440x900 on my 15.4", shouldn't look bad on a 17" considering i'm running 1680x1050 on a 20" screen.
-
it's a new gaming service with which MS is hoping to rip people off for online gaming.
-
anyone exited to see if their status changed? I guess people are saying they update at 9 AM EST Time which is 5 minutes from now.
-
It's already 3:32 P.M. here and mine is still in preproduction but i guess it will be like that for a couple of days before it moves over to the build stage.
-
I was excited............. until I checked the status and nothing changed!
-
If you call in to the status line you'll get more info. Instead of saying Production the voice will say "Your order is currently in Production in the testing phase".
Edit: Forgot phone# 1-800-433-9014 -
Lucky me, seems I'm setting a new record for time in the "build" stage ...
-
Mine was in build 16 days before I canceled it, looking to reorder and go with vostro this time.
-
That's not the price of the RAM you are paying for. It's an upgrade price LOL. -
dang, no one has made it into boxing yet? bummer lol
-
I didn't want to replace the RAM under the keyboard, so instead of paying $70 and potentially ruining my laptop, or paying $120 for 2.5 gigs of RAM, I just decided to pay the $150 and have Dell do it.
-
just called an they "expedited" my order..told me the courtesy upgraded shipping really doesnt do anything besides delay the order further...bull****? maybe...but we will see if my vostro goes before the 8th...
-
how did you get it expedited?
-
yes, do tell nufenstein!
does that mean you get better shipping or does the build process get sped up?
-
btw...my 1400 JUST got moved to boxing!!!
-
what was your est ship date?
Dell Vostro is here!!!
