European M1330 order progress

Be careful with "infinite" statements in the computer world.
I thought EXACTLY that when i bought my 286, 8MHz (16 in Turbo mode) with 2MB Ram and 40MB HDD about 20 years ago.

In perspecstive, the OS will never see the technic reach that limit in its product lifespan, but its pretty certain to assume that many of us reading this thread will.

As you say in 20 years the CPU clocks, HDD and RAM sizes were multiplied by 1000. However I'm not sure if we'll need 2^64 bit (~1000.000.000 GB) of RAM in our lifetime...

 

Any European orders already delivered? I wonder if we also get the xps sleeve...

yeah after one month mine is still in pre-prod... I just sent an email to my rep to tell him that if my order is not delivered the 14th as promised I'll cancel it, let's see...

 

yeh well I guess I won't cancel eventho it wouldn't arrive on time, just gonna whine for some upgrades or smt. It's too tiresome to try and find some other equally good lappy for the same price etcetc.

 

there is no 13.3 inch out that there is as good as the m1330 even in the months we've been waiting for them to ship no one has come close - even the sony sz doesn't have the edge on the m1330 - which is why dell have us all in a choke hold.

my priority when i ordered was light weight and around 13.3 inches with a dedicated gfx card, high end santa rose chipset (T7700 at the time), along with at least expandable up to 4 gb of ram.

 

yeah I agree, the problem is that I go away for one month on the 15th of August, so if it doesn't arrive on time it's just better to cancel and reorder it when I come back. The rep told be there is no problem to cancel at least...

 

BTW do you think it's easy to upgrade the chip? Because I ordered the 1.8GHz since I want the battery to last longer, but perhaps in a couple of year I would like to upgrade it.

I was very careful when using the word "cancel" around CSR. The one time I did use it was with the Laptop Messenger Bag I ordered, I simply asked "should I cancel and order from somewhere else because my ESD is 1 month after my laptop is meant to arrive."

I did not request the order to be canceled, I was just asking. Anyway they jumped on the chance and just canceled the bag immediately. Then the next day they had the Free Bag offer in the USA. Very odd.

I just had a chat with my sales rep to check on my order status.
Its currently still not being build and i get a bit anxious about it.

He told me that the reason for this being the CPUs.

Ok now, how reliable is this information?
I guess pretty reliable, as i decided to make a visit and walked over to his desk in corporate sales.
He actually showed me my order in the system and the only component having a lead time (+23 days) currently is the CPU on my order. Further he told me that he is seeing the same thing on all orders he is currently preparing.

When I placed the order there was no note on the order page of any extended wait or delay. I did original have a order of a M1330 due to arrive on 20/08/07 but i cancled it since the price of parts had changed quite abit (could do with saving money!)

I join this discussion. I am in Italy, I ordered the 1330
Tuxedo Black, LED, T7500, 2gb RAM, 200GB 7200rpm, BT, WirelessN.
Ordered July 3; Preproduction july 10; ESD july31
Then preproduction posponed to July25, ESD august 30.

No explanation on which is the problem.
My question is: what does it mean that it is still in preproduction?
How long does it take the process when the computer goes into production process?
Should I worry for my computer still in preproduction?
Dell just offer me a 60€ computer bag.
As far as I know non XPS1330 deliverd in Italy until now.
Any Italian guy that received the XPS1330 here?
