    Are you sure ?

My order status for Vostro Desktop says it is being shipped from Malaysia. Whereas market reports and various articles quote that desktops are being shipped now from Chennai.

Yes... Indian ops are only making desktops..... Mal is where the Laptops and servers are being assembled....at the moment....

    However.................

Something tells me...... thats about to change.... with the Indian market for laptops heating up...Dell is planning to assemble its entire range here.....

Hmm I think the reason why your desktop might have shifted from Malaysia might be that the plant in DELL India assembles only certain Desktop models and not all....

    Hi Guys ,
I am planning to buy a Dell 1520 inspiron. My specs are :
    Intel C2D T7250 2.0GHz, 2MB Cache, 800 MHz FSB
    Vista home premium
    3 year complete cover
15.4" Widescreen WXGA (1280x800) Display with TrueLife (TM)
    2GB (2 X 1024MB) 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM
Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy ADVANCED HD Audio Software
    NVIDIA(R) GeForce(TM) 8600M GT with 256MB GDDR2 dedicated graphic memory
    160GB SATA Hard Drive
Internal 8X DVD+/-RW Combination Drive with dual layer write capabilities
    Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945 Dual Band 802.11a/g 54Mbps Wireless Mini Card
Ruby Red Color with Microsatin Finish and camera
    90W AC Adapter
9-cell 85Whr Lithium Ion Primary Battery
    DELL Large Nylon Case

I am getting this in 67 K, is this a fair config and at fair price or should I insist to get more discount???
I am also thinking to wait till diwali , because the current prices are valid till 02.11.07 , so the prices may fall down , what say ??? Is there any chance that prices may go up , coz I will be screwed then.
About color,I am confused between ruby red and midnight blue, I want to use this laptop for next 4 years. I like red more but then think it will attract too much attention , and how is midnight blue .

prices according to me of any eletronics never go up...so relax abt that...i guess take one yr warranty and later extend it when u come to end of the warranty period..but diff ppl diff views on it...i guess the warranty prices will surely come down for same....and yes they r giving good cash discounts so rather go for it .

Latest news is that Dell has postponed estimated delivery date from Oct 25 to Nov 1. That is already a week's delay. 'Order Status' page shows that it is in transit in India after clearing customs and forwarding from hub etc. It has been stuck at 'In transit' from Oct 19 onwards.

In case of any further delays, when should I push the case for compensation/incentives ?? I would like advice on this matter.

The desktop in question is a Vostro 200 MT. Cannot be classified as high end...probably optiplex and Precision are high-end desktops.

I have a feeling though that the shipment is still lying somewhere in a Chennai warehouse and hasn't even started it's journey yet. Btw I am based in Delhi.

If this is for my information .. then I have mentioned clearly in the last post that I was talking about my DESKTOP VOSTRO 200 MINI TOWER.

The track and status log has indicated that even this desktop has been shipped from PENANG, MALAYSIA. It has already been through Chennai Port, customs etc.

I think it is lying somewhere in a Chennai warehouse and the DELL guys are lying about have it already shipped and on its way. Part of the problem IMO could be that they have only 1 shipment to other parts of India once a month. That could be one reason why the inordinate delay on dates.

The EDD for the XPS is supposed to be 5 th NOV. Yesterday I sent a mail to the Sales Rep asking "if possible" to deliver it by latest by 8th Nov (Diwali)....
This morn the customer service rep folled it up by a call to me.....explained that the XPS was at the Customs and will be cleared in 3 to 5 Dys.... She also mentioned...."...... after clearance from the customs the Laptop is sent to the CENTRAL STORAGE / WAREHOUSE for Invoicing....which normally takes 3 working days (she subsequently offered to cut the time to 1 day on Priority basis)..." She also happened to mention "......if your delievery area happens to be one of our 'regular' serviced areas....then the process takes 2 days.....otherwise 4 to 6 days...."

During conversation she also happened to mention.... "......all laptops for India are manufactured / assembled in Malasia..."
    Hope this helps

This has been answered many times in this thread recently. You do not HAVE to wait for anyone, but if you wish to waste your time for someone to come and tell you what a screen is, and how to start the laptop, you can. And you don't have to check for anything before signing the receipt. They won't let you anyways. If anything is not right, you just call them, and they'll send a new one to you. You can return it for a full refund within 30 days anyways if something bothers you so much.

Relax guyz - you dont need to wait for any technician guy to come over..... If you are to wait for such a thing then DELL customer care or sales rep should have informed abt it..... Unless they tell you so you can very well open up the package....

Believe me they didnt even call me after I received the package..... And still my order status is saying not yet delivered.... :D

Good.... that settles it I guess.....
Now for 1 MORE problem..... SONY...
It seems those guys have come up with pretty "neat" looking Notebooks and SURPRISE !!! at pretty affordable prices !!! (Its Sony we are talking about !)....
I need to make 1 more purchase....
15 Inches ..... FOR a Fashion Designer (probably some pretty heavy-duty designing programs ... I guess...)
She needs something powerful and light......

So? Any Views...? Inspiration or Sony ?
The sony model she was looking at was VGN-N37GH/B @ Rs. 54,500 Less some discount (something like that)

I have absolutely NO idea about SONY models in India....
    Need some help here.....

    VISHAL !!!! 10 Days !!!!!
    RING them up !!!

    2 strategies:

a> If you have purchased from a "corporate" account (company purchase) ring them up and WEEP.... say ur BOSS is going to hammer you.... That the Moral responsibility of u getting fired rests with DELL....somewhere later down the line .... ask them for a discount....OR better still.... "ASK THEM to do something to make ur BOSS happy..." MAYBE bump up the CPU to T7300 ? Eh? He He HE..... If thats not possible (The lappy is stuck at the customs....or something.....) .... ask them to "Gift Wrap" it with the most expensive laptop cover in their store !!!!!
2> Personal purchase....This is a tough one.... The can probably cite half-a-dozen clauses in their "agreement"....which , unfortunately, all of us hardly read.....BUT....there is still hope.... How about the ANGRY DAD angle?
If the above fails or u think u cant pull it off... sound disgusted... say you are better off with the LENOVO/SONY/HP "Diwali Offer" (something u just dreamed of... be imaginative).....

    Anyways, best of luck !

    Me to Dell
    Oct 24, 2007 11:15 AM
    Hello XXXX,

I find that yesterday the Estimated delivery date has been suddenly postponed from 25 Oct to 1 November.

Considering that according to Dell's own time-table the desktop has been in transit from Oct 19 onwards. I find it difficult to appreciate the exigency that warrants a weeks delay. No place in India is so far off.

Feel that you owe me an explanation. And no officialese please. And kindly call me back within next half hour or reply me an email.

    regards,

    Dear XXXX,

Please note the Delivery Dates are tentative and may happen at any point, within the 10 -12 working days from the day the order is placed. However since the Logistic is Outsourced to a 3rd Party there is no Way that DELL Can influence the same. However will try to get an update from Logistics.

    Please cooperate.

    Thanks & Regards,

    XXXX XXXX

    Me to Dell
    Oct 24, 2007 11:44 AM

Yes XXXX, November 1 is way over the 10-12 day deadline. It is a week over the October 25 estimated delivery date.

I am aware that logistics could be a problem, but am expecting delivery this week as per your 10-12 day deadline. In case that is not possible I need a clear date when I can expect the same.

It is not possible for me to wait forever with no clue as to what's going on with no satisfactory explanation and I will expect to be compensated for any further delays.

    regards,

    Hi,

I am planning to buy a Dell 1520 within next 10 days. I am going for T7250 which is 170 USD costlier than T5250. Please tell me if there is any noticeable difference between the speeds of two of them ?? What applications will require higher processing power than T5250 ?? I mean is it a wise decision to spend 170 dollars more for that speed difference ??

Also,I have decided 160 GB SATA HDD , should I go for 7200 RPM ,which is 56 dollars costlier than normal SATA HDD. Again , is it worth the extra money
and will it make any noticeable difference ???

    I have decided following config:
    Intel C2D T7250 2.0 GHz
    Vista Home premium
    3 Year Complete Cover
15.4" widescreen WXGA 1280*800 display with truelife
    2 GB RAM
Integrated sound blaster audigy advanced HD audio software
    Nvidia 8600 GT 256 MB
    160 GB SATA HDD
    8x DVD writer
    Midnight Blue color
    9 cell battery

    Raj,
If you are willing to spend more for a T7250 then I would personally suggest T7300 with 4 MB L2 Cache (.....does the T7250 have a 2 MB L2 Cache or 4 MB Cache?)
T7250 or 7300 gives is a considerale improvement..... but i guess that depends upon what you are planning to use? "Simple" spreadsheets and Word documents do not warrent the extra expense.... but Large spreadsheets, databases, GAMES etc etc..... you better make your investment future proof.....(3yrs?)
7200 RPM does make a difference ....but Only a minor performance boost...again.....are you going to work with very large databases?....Also, HDD repracement is easy... you might consider going in for a 5400 today and replace the same ...say 2yrs.....down the line with a bigger better HDD..... your choice....
3 yrs Warrenty is a bit too much..... go in for 2 yrs and then LATER bump it up by 1 year.... should be cheaper in the long run...again depends upon how your deal is structured.
    Regards.

Ok guyz I did a thourogh check up on my laptop for any headphone noise stuff, cpu whine and also grainness (on my AUO) and found my lappy flawless..... Also did a clean install of Vista from my recovery DVD too to check whether the DVD was working fine.....

And the hardest part of it all was my goal on this laptop to Install Vista, Linux along with MediaDirect worked splendidly without any problems at all.... I ll be posting that HOWTO soon.... So anyone interested ?
