I got my lappie on 30th oct, even though my EDD was 5th nov :D
Everything is fine, except that the hard drive capacity is around 149GB.
Where as I had opted for 160GB.
Did u all (who already have their lappies with them) got the right size of Harddrive?

The thing is storage device manufacturers use the factor of 1000 for representing kilo, mega, giga, etc. whereas in computer terms it is actually 1024 for the same.... So a 160 Gig Hard Drive will have 160,000,000,000 bytes of storage and which is nothing but around 149 Gig ;)

So you will get only 93 % of the hard drive capacity in GB as mentioned by the manufacturer....

Can I use Colin to clean my screen? I mean damp the cloth (the one used to clean contact lenses) a little bit, and wipe the screen with it. Will it be fine? What about the outside cover, the black one?

It is such a misconception. I used Vista for the first time when I got this notebook, and all went extremely fine. If you can't do it, don't assume no one can.

Seriously the Vista's partition manager sucks.... It cant even distinguish Primary and logical partitions for non-Windows filesystems..... Gparted is far far better considering it is an OpenSource too....

hey silas, i remember seeing 5250 in your sig, when did you get the 7700? and from whom, dell? or private? and did you have to change the mobo? people here say there are socket issues with various processors. guess then the 5250 and 7700 sockets are the same. cool!

DELL compensated me for their stupidity, I got the T7700 from them for free, as a replacement for T5250. I didn't have to change the motherboard, and there were no socket issues or otherwise. I took the old one off, and put the new one in.

I ordered Inspiron 1520 on 27th Nov. But I wasn't offered any freebees from dell.

    EDD : 17th Dec.

Ordered Dell Inspiron 1420 with the following specs:
Intel C2D T7250, 2GB RAM, Vista Home Premium, 160GB HDD, No case, Jet Black

    Order date: 14 Nov 2007
    EDD: 05 Dec 2007
    Delivered: 28 Nov 2007 evening

Installation was performed on 29 Nov 2007 morning. I am very impressed with Dell's responsiveness (some others may disagree) after going through all the delivery delays many have been facing, customer support problems etc. In my case my order was processed on 14 Nov 2007 and the product shipped out 15 Nov 2007 (I even got a paltry 3.5% discount)..

    Some tips for the cribbers:
    1. Order through phone. It is safe trust me.
    2. Order Jet black. Color models have just started volume production in Malaysia. Black models reach India a week earlier.
    3. Exempt yourself from octroi. It makes no difference to the delivery time.
    4. Bargain!. Yes bargain with the Dell Sales guy over phone. I actually got the 3.5% discount saying that I am an employee of "xxx" company. Of course you need to show proof!
    5. Dell does not update order status on the website for everyone. So check up with the sales guys to be better prepared. I was caught off guard when the courier guy called me.
    6. No. I dont work for Dell!

P.S: Aero works like a dream with X3100 Integrated GFX in my notebook. Dont waste money on the inferior nVidia 128MB dedicated card (even heavy gfx games do not work as good with the nvidia card)

    Adios

I dont agree about the statement about the 128 MB Geforce 8400 GS.... For playing games like Need For Speed in Windows XP with 2 GB RAM - even under max settings the game should work very fine without any glitches.....

Hey, did yo all get the retarded TSST Corp TS-L632D as your DVD+/-RW drive? If not, then which one did you get? Does it work properly? Because mine doesn't.

I agree with you. Win XP + 8400GS is perfectly fine because XP graphics does not load even 10% of the engine in 8400GS. But Vista loads it thoroughly. My contention is: Vista + X3100 is the same as Vista + 8400GS. Games have suffered ( only 3 to 10 fps for most games with all Vista updates and latest graphic drivers). Besides I am more power conscious. 9 cell nvidia lasts as much as 6 cell-X3100. Atleast for me.

I havent had the time to check who made the DVD drive. But it makes a helluva noise. The HDD also seems to make constant noises when being read (as though it has some audio indicator :) ) So far it has worked neat with all DVDs, VCDs and dual layer discs. Is TSST Corp a chinese co.? Then I am sure we all have the same stuff. My drive has got good speed. It read off Ubuntu Live DVD and played it pretty quickly (load time).

But I have anyways faced my 1st crash (Vista's or rather Microsofts trademark I suppose). My Apple Ipod drivers have crashed Vista. But it recovered to an extent. Have to see if my PC will be reliable and repeatable.

    Cheers

    Hi,
I ordered a Dell Inspiron 1520(Rs. 60k) and the EDD was 17th Dec. My order was in the custom clearance stage.
On seeing the XPS 1530 however I changed my mind and sent an email today to the sales team to change my order.
Anyone here doing the same ?

    Greetings All,

Any idea what is the current delivery time for Inspiron 1520? I have ordered one on 18th Dec and the current status shows as "Ship from factory on 19th Dec".

    Thanks
