Congrats virtuoso!!![]()
I would also like to ask: Do you notice any graininess on your screen?
Man, all your orders are being released or dispatched or delivered and I still have no idea about my order. This is really sad, I hope it comes out of customs tomorrow..
-
Absolutely no graininess... only bleeding at the bottom but not as bad as i thought it would be at the beginning... btw its an lg screen
-
Thanks a lot. Hope you enjoy your notebook! I'm jealous

Hello Everyone
When should I expect my Laptop ? any idea ? like after reading all the stuff about shipping. Do I expect my LT on same EDD ?
I have order Inspiron 6400
My order date : 17th aug 2007
Ship from factory : 18th aug 2007
Estimated delivery date : 6th sep 2007 -
@visshal: seeing the time they've taken for our deliveries, i would recommend bracing yourself for a week's delay... EDD is given as 3 weeks on site, i was told delivery time 4 to 5 weeks while ordering... my bro's past experience its about 4 weeks for delivery (he orders quite frequently)... and seeing my own experience i think 4 weeks is a good guess... especially with the snafus with dell manufacturing at present... PS- don't forget if you have some spl coloured cover, it might be delayed further.... all the best!!!
-
But Vishal since you ordered an Inspiron 6400 chances are that you might get yours pretty soon than the ones who have ordered the 1420/1520/1720 or a Vostro 1400/1500...
-
How come dell doesnt have a secure payment gateway? Giving my card details over the phone totally freaks me out. together with these delay reports, I am thinking of not even ordering with dell. guess i will pick up from an HP or something..
-
Is customs the cause of the most added time to your orders?
-
Yeah...my Order was on hold just because the logistics guys, never had any payment details. Actually they ordered my Laptop only when my cheque was cleared from the bank and received the payment.
Came to know that, Dell do send the laptops by Ground Shipping so it will take few more days before I get it here in Pune
And Yes...Customs was the biggest cause of Delay -
hmm...anyone ordered via card?
and do you guys really get discounts from the sales reps? -
Not special cover but I order cherrywood color kit
Also I called CC about order status the guy on phone said that your LT has reach in B'lor and waiting for invoice you may get your LT in 3-4 days -
Hi Ash
why so ? -
and also I get dis from the sales reps
I got free shipping with no other taxes it goes around 3-4 k -
@10x : i also ordered via c/card... i was informed by the CSR that online order form is currently for corp. customers only... it is a bit discomforting to give your c/card details over phone...
@mask: customs clearance issues of Dell have supposedly cropped up recently due to some new notification... then again i have read diff. excuses given to diff ppl...
@ to everyone : just got a reply in writing to my query to the Dell ppl same is as under...

XXXXXXXX
... now i don't know whether "john l" is a pseudo name... and i am not too bothered about the same... i am just hoping that i DO get my laptop by 1st so that i can play around for the weekend....still keepin my fingers crossed
Anybody else bothered to respond to the email address given by Dell on order status page and got a response in writing???
regds, -
so visshal, how much did you pay (net) for the 6400?
uff, one day i think abt ordering right away, and the very next day i get drawn away by some comments...
btw, i guess dell is the cheapest in India right? (lets take away zenith and the likes away from the equation)
-
I pay 42k for Inspiron 6400
Yes dell is the cheapest with Quality with Good Config -
What do you mean by "free shipping"? I have read my replies here, "I got free shipping" etc. Would the delivery guy ask me for some money? WTF??
Also, I called DELL for the first time today, and asked for my ESD. The guy said September 6th, 2007. I said the order status page says September 9th, 2007! He said **** it, your machine will be delivered on or before this 6th!
But I would not accept the laptop if the DHL or whatever ask me for money, as I don't have any! -
@visshal
cool, what was the RAM? Did you chose T2080?
btw, does anyone know whether I can schedule my delivery on a weekend or say on a weekday but late in the evening? I dont want to recieve the lappy at my office..
@silas
free shipping, i am guessing, would be the Rs 750 handling charges Dell charges when you place the order. So its possible for them to waive this off. -
I think when you order online you must checked Total Cost
Here is a demo
======================================
Total Amount Rs 45,650.00
Total Amount Before Tax Rs 45,650.00
VAT - 4% Rs 1,826.00
Total Amount Before OCTROI TAX Rs 47,476.00
OCTROI - 4% Rs 1,899.04
Total Tax Rs 3,725.04
Total Amount After Tax Rs 49,375.04
====================================== -
-
So I'll have to pay Rs. 750 to the DELL guy, or is it included in the payment that I have already given to DELL?
-
Yes
http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/products/category.aspx/notebooks?c=in&cs=inbsd1&l=en&s=bsd
Just have look on it in footer
"*By delivery only. Delivery charges are additional depending on product type: Inspiron & XPS Notebook (Rs.750), Inspiron Desktop (Rs.1,250)"
Also its depends upon your invoice check it out. -
****, I gave the wrong address for delivery. Can they change????
-
@ Silas
Dont worry if they unable to reach your house they will give you call for conformation. -
Actually when you try to configure your laptop online and finalize it you will get to another page.... There an option is available to get a tax-free and octroi-free delivery but that will add 4-5 days extra (according to that page).... So free shipping can be availed by anyone I guess.... And after requesting for a quote and you give the contact number a DELL CSR would call you for confirmation of details and other stuff... That time I think you can talk to him to get more discounts and stuff..... It depends though....
And Vishal the reason I said you can get your laptop soon because most of the people are now ordering only Inspiron 1x20 series and Vostro 1x00 series.... The parts for these two series of models are almost the same..... So DELL would not have stock for them immediately....
But if you order a 6400 (which not so many ppl are now ordering) chances are that no parts have to be back-ordered (i.e. all of the required parts will be available in stock) and so the build-time will be even less....
But I guess most of the late deliveries now are mainly due to customs delays (still dont know if it is the truth)...... So on the whole you should get your laptop somewhere before 3 weeks if my prediction is correct... -
@silas: you have already paid for the delivery charges (or handling charges) while calculating your invoice amt. - no charges payable to the courier / delivery person
-
Well I called DELL and asked them to change the address, and the said that they would, and then I fired up emails to 4-5 people at DELL as well! So nothing should go wrong, and if anything does, I'm safe!
And as for the shipping charges, my order includes this amongst other things
(like processor and RAM)-
Also, I chose not to pay VAT, who'd like to add an extra 4% to their bills????
-
@Ash Hi fi zone
Got it
@ Silas
"Also, I chose not to pay VAT, who'd like to add an extra 4% to their bills????"
It may be affected on your EDD. If you choose 0 % tax exemption -
Basically, if you choose not to pay VAT, then Dell takes the delivery for you in Bangalore and then sends the laptop over. If you pay VAT, then I think they deliver straight to your house.
Anyway, I called up Customer Service today (as my CSR is a clueless guy who is not apparently not interested in me as a customer since I have already placed the order). The woman at the other end told me that they are having problems with customs and it should be out maybe by Monday, but she told me it will take another 8 days or so for it to be out. So I am confused. I asked how much time does it take after its out and she said 4-5 days.
Then I asked will it be delivered definitely by my EDD of 6th September. And she said "oh absolutely!"
Is it only me who is getting the brain dead customer care people or do all of you have much better luck than me? -
I think the main problem here with DELL is they are receiving a large volume of orders for laptops and the delays are mainly due to that....
But since these laptops are really bang for the buck, hardly few ppl would cancel their orders in this waiting time..... So an extra 2 - 10 days would not make such a difference because ppl have waited more than 2 - 3weeks for their laptop and they wont mind waiting another week or so..... DELL is taking advantage of this and these CSRs do not disclose the actual delivery date even when they know when it is.... -
I certainly have better luck than you!
-
@silas:
regarding the how do i know query? - when you first configure the system online, the price which appears is not the price given in the ad but includes the delivery, etc. (Dell calls it handling charges, insurance charges, etc.). Plus when you pay, they do not inform you that any additional payment is to be made. Courier companies do not collect cash from customer unless its VPP, etc.
However, if you really want to be sure, spk to Dell CSR and confirm about the addnl payment.
As regards discounts, what Dell waive is Octroi and VAT (in which case there is 4-5 days delay in delivery due to the circuitous route adopted).
------
@ to the CSR query: I advise looking up direct2dell to see the crap they talk about the Indian CSRs. On the other hand i can't blame em too much, i'm sure our CSRs must be giving the std. Dell BS regarding the delivery problems, etc.
delivery status update: so far no call from Dell logistics to inform that laptop has arrived in their mumbai office... so near yet so far.... -
all the best regarding the delivery date mate!!!
-
I just ripped off DELL and got myself the 1920*1200 resolution thingy for free!
And you all can do it too.
Here is the conversation that took place between me and the technical department guy -
This is the conversation that took place between me and the Customer Care girl -
-
@ silas..have patience, mate...if ur laptop doesn't show on 9th, then you can fire them up..regarding the upgrade...i think that will delay ur order, as they will have to fix a new screen there itself, instead of sending in a replacement
-
Also, if they'll send a replacement, I'll keep the old one till the new one arrives. -
Yeah, but just think what that 1920x1200 will do to your eyes!! I can't even imagine that res on a 17" monitor..
Regarding the CSRs, well they're awful but now I am talking to a nice person at the Customer care department and she has been mailing me the updates. So I guess there are some responsive people over there
But the bad news: Now she tells me that I will get my machine on or before the 13th of September. My original EDD of 6th Sep hasn't changed on the Dell website. And now I am getting irritated. It is lying in customs in Haryana! I am in Delhi. I can probably drive down an hour and collect it.
It's been in customs for 10 days now.
How long did you guys have your laptops in customs? How many days?
I think Dell is going the easier route here and just blaming everything on the Indian customs, knowing that Indians are so tuned to blaming the customs anyway. -
yups phoenix, i think so too. dell is taking every one for a ride with the delivery promises
-
I think Dell has made a mess of my Order
It cleared the custom's on 25th and still not shipped. Every time I called the CS, I get some different excuse.
I just got off the Phone talking to someone and she told me that, its still on "Finance Hold" as the State Code in my Shipping Address does not match. I was clueless as I changed the Shipping Address 2 weeks back then everyone was happy about it...
I really wonder when would they ship the order to me. Can I chat with the CS online instead of talking them on Phone? -
My laptop is in customs in Gurgaon (Haryana) since September 24th, and I'll get it on or before 5th now (yesterday, they told me that I'll get it on or before 6th, and the day before they told me on or before 9th, and the day before it was from 9th to 15th, so I'm getting good news everyday!). Man, if my machine is delayed by a single second, I'll toast them alive, and ask for my money back, with 2 months' interest. And I really mean it. And I'll ask them to include the STD calls, an hour per day, as well in the refund. My sales rep and the one looking after my order, don't reply to me. Shall I contact their manager???? Stupid retards! -
When did you place the Order for your Laptop?
-
muahah just spoke to csr
she said ill be getting my lappy 2mrw
or day after
EDITsilas...dude , my machine was in customs clearance from the 7th august to 27th...good luck with ur thing....and guess what..i emailed my csr's manager...got no reply from her side too...dell sucks
-
The 1440x900 res is used on the 19" LCDs.
So a 17" LCD with 1920x1200 res will make things really small, unless you have excellent vision. And even then I think it would give me a headache.
This is crazy!
I really hope I receive some good news like you and they shift my date back to the 6th or 3rd or whatever. Actually, I hope it just comes.
And yeah, I am waiting another week. After that, Dell can expect a very difficult customer on the line. I am going to be asking for my money back. These 2 weeks I could have been already enjoying my laptop if I had bought it from the market.
And oh yeah, my sales rep is a retard too who doesn't reply back. In fact, he doesn't reply to any emails/calls at all, never has.
I wrote an email to his supervisor, never heard from her too.
The only person who is writing to me now is Priya from Customer Care.
Getting really tired of this. -
@Silas I think the discounts the way you got can only be availed only if you are configuring your laptop thru phone and not thru net.... If you ask me doing it thru the net gives you more transparency of knowing the system configuration and verifying it is just what you wanted.... But you were really lucky too dude
Anyway I'm going to order mine in the 1st week of September through a DELL Employee (a friend of mine) and so can get a good discount on the lappy.... He says I can get something in between 15 - 25 % discount depending on the model and config....
Since my budget was 50k I was planning to settle for the T5250 but since he says he can get me more discount I m actually planning to go for the T5450 or the T7100 depending on the price changes that will take place and the discount I can get..... -
Actually, after you configure it through the net, Dell calls you up to finalise details and take your payment details. Thats the time you can bargain and thats when I did it. In fact, the initial rep assigned to me didn't even bother to call me, so I called and got my rep changed to the idiot I currently have.
Thats great that you know someone who can give a good discount. Is he in the sales or the customer service dept? -
No he is actually in the Software Department of DELL.... Yeah I know that DELL calls you back after you book your quotation for further processing but complaining like what Silas did cant be done abt the DDR3 thing because we were the one who configured it online where it had already said DDR2....
-
And just now noticed that the order delays of 6 - 7 weeks for the RED lids for 1520 are gone.... yippeeee.... I was actually thinking of going to Midnight Blue instead but good to see that I can still order the RED.... And now midnight blue has a long delivery lag time....

I just talked to a John from Customer Care department, and I asked him that I wanted the person overlooking the delivery of my Notebook "personally", changed, and he said she is out for leave till Monday.
He said he will mail me a compensation letter right now. He told me that the dates given to people are just imaginary dates, calculated my the customer department by just adding 20-21 days from the time of order. So there is no confirmed date for anyone's machine's delivery. -
I am not sure what good it will do to change the CSR now that its already ordered. I guess they just have to deliver it and later on, if you have any problem, you talk to customer care directly, and not to the CSR.
So the CSR's role is mostly over, hence I don't care about changing him.
I also thought about the legal things we can threaten them with. But to tell you the truth, they themselves say 3 weeks and then even that is an approximate. It is written everywhere that the EDD given is an approximate and Dell is not liable if its wrong.
So I am not sure if there are any legal options. All you'll do is waste time and effort.
I really am wishing I had bought one off the market. But no other company's laptops fit the specs I needed. I saw a Sony one which did but I would never buy a Sony, for their terrible customer service.
The reason I chose a Jet Black colour was because the CSR told me it will take less time to come, while there will be a delay on all the other colours. What a stupid decision, as its taking as long anyway.
