I told that guy that I don't want the bigger resolution, but something else. He told me he will send me an email, in which there will be things to chose from. I said ok. Ofcourse, the mail didn't come!

I think you better upgrade your warranty since that is one thing they can easily do it even now or get some cool accessory.... I would have choosen the processor upgrade for your config if the option had been given earlier but I guess if you do it now (even if they allow) it will even more delay your order.....

Yes, I'm thinking the same. I think I'll get the whole 3 years shebang and the CompleteCare thingy as well. They'd have to bring the processor from Malaysia if I chose that?

Hmm I dont think they would disassemble the processor in the system here and replace it.... They would do it only at Malaysia for us I guess.... So obviously you wont have the option to upgrade the processor now....

No, the Customer Care girl said I can ask for a component upgrade.

Anyways, I asked for my order status, and I was told that my machine would be out from the customs today or tomorrow! :D I told them I'll be leaving for England as my company is sending me on an International programme, on 7th of September. They told me there won't be a single problem and it'll be delivered on or before 6th! :D If they are late, I'll play my "I lost a job prospect" card, and then I'll let the fireworks fly! :p

    That should be.

Though I don't know what to chose as a compensation. I'd rather have the blue-tooth headphones and a mouse and a bag rather than delay it further.

Lawl! :D They are so useless, I bet they don't even know what an online forum is.

Silas: Where exactly is your laptop? Is it in Bangalore at customs? Man, I have told them too that I have to go out of town on the 8th of September. I don't know why Haryana customs is taking so long.

I think the headset, mouse and bag upgrade, or the 3yr warranty upgrade is better. The processor cannot be changed and if they do that, then a new machine will have to come from Malaysia for you. So it will really delay your order.
Best is 3yr warranty upgrade. :)

My laptop is in Gurgaon, where I live! :) After it is cleared today, or tomorrow, an invoice will be generated in Bangalore, and it'll take a day to reach Gurgaon, and then they'll deliver it to me. Considering there is a Sunday in between, it'll take at max 4 days, around 5th or 6th! :)

    P.S - What's an invoice?

Yeah, the invoice is a bill :)

Man, my laptop is in Gurgaon too as I am in Delhi! :) I called them today and told them that I had to go out on the 8th of Sep for work and after that I won't be able to take delivery, even if they send it. So they talked to logistics and promised me they would try and send it as soon as it came out of customs, on the same day most probably.

I really hope it comes out on Monday. I can't wait any longer.

Btw, its strange they didn't call, mask. As I made an online order on Saturday late night and they called first thing Sunday morning (around 11am). In fact, I had purchased a Dell LCD (which is very nice) and that too I had made an online order on Saturday night and they called Sunday morning. And that came in 2 weeks! :)

I really hope our lot of laptops gets released on Monday.

For this month they have not cut down the prices much for the 1420 or 1520 but 1720 has been lowered a lot.... The only thing now they've added for the 1520 is the default 120 GB hard drive instead of 80 GB.... So around 1500 bucks has been reduced.... Not much but ok :|

I think I ll be mostly going to order either with 1520 with T7100 if the total laptop price after all discount comes within 54k or something and if not I ll have to go with a T5450.... :(

i have ordered my inspiron 1420 here in bombay on 25th august and its expected to ship on 15th sep 07. I ordered backpack with it but then i emailed to ask if i can cancel backpack but nobody have responded my ticket to 5 days. I wonder if this is normal at dell (not responding to customer support tickets).

And MaxBerry it is quite common for DELL not to respond back to emails....

MaxBerry, it is better to call your CSR or customer service if you want to change anything. Don't email them, they never reply.

rhn, well, did you get it then? Please do let us know! I really hope you have got it. If so, then it gives hope to the rest of us that we can also persuade them to deliver our laptops soon. The thing with customs is truly getting ridiculous.

I think my Dell LCD was delivered on a Saturday, if I am not mistaken.

P.S. rhn, I just noticed that you will upgrade to 4GB ram. I must tell you that no 32bit version of Windows reads more than 3GB, so your 4GB will not be usable and only 3GB will be. The only option to use the whole 4GB is to upgrade to 64bit Windows.

Also rhn I dont think DELL gives you 2 GB RAM in your laptop as a single 2 GB module but as only 2 x 1 GB modules and there are only two SODIMM slots on your laptop to plug in the RAM modules.... So you simply cant buy extra 2 GB outside and plug it in to get 4 GB (if that is what you are trying to do or may be not :)) ....

Well, that is sad :( I can see how they don't have much control over customs but its just maddening that Dell being such a big company can't do anything about it.

I really want compensation as well but technically, they are just a week late on my EDD. And they tell you that they may be.

I think it is one thats been sent back, the headphone jack makes a whinning noise with any headset you plug in and its driving me nuts also yep the screens grainy! anyone else from the indian manufactures have the same problem?

ARRRGGHH I think I'll send it back

I think DELL can get things faster at the customs since they've been doing this overseas shipping for a long long time.... I believe there is something else which is delaying the orders....

@rhn if so, then no probs I guess as long as they dont forget to put a single 2 gb module ;)

@Busy_lad, I believe almost everyone is facing the headphone jack problem and more than 50% are facing the grainy screen problem...

That starts to make me reconsider choosing my screen resolution before I place my order, let me see - I ll be placing my order on Monday....

ok guys well m new here and m thinking of ordering a dell xps 1330 as rite now deres an offer on xps on the dell site.My configuration would be:
    Intel(R) Core(TM)2Duo Processor T7300
Genuine Windows Vista(R) Home Premium - with AERO experience
    2GB (2 X 1024MB) 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM
    160GB SATA Hard Drive
Internal 8X DVD+/-RW Combination Drive with dual layer write capabilities
Intel(R) Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100.

Well now I have two questions
1.my budget would be 70k and i cant decide whether i should get the processor upgrade from 1.8 to 2.0 as l2 cache increases from 2 to 4 ,or to get a graphic card.
2.how much time do u guys think my laptop will take to reach me as its an xps

Nope I guess 1710 can be obtained here at India by placing for a quote online and the only possible way is by requesting the CSRs at DELL over phone but I doubt it is still possible....

You can easily play Oblivion at high settings on the 8400GS. Read the 1420 reviews. I am sure you can play NFS as well, though I don't know much about the NFS games.

I'm seriously considering sending mine back, I don't even think I want to buy a laptop anymore this thing is pissing me off so much. grainy screen is grainy and headphone jack noise is unacceptable for a peice of equipment that cost me 2'300 AU.

    arrrggg
