India Inspiron/Vostro/XPS Order status thread

Well, usually Indian orders move and get shipped very fast. If you see my sig, you will see that I placed my order on the 14th and on the 18th, it got shipped. So shouldn't be too long, hopefully.

 

hmm...so when did you start bugging them, for the delay? was your EDD respected?

 

and mine says ESD as 04/10, not even EDD!

 

Where does it say the ESD on that page - I searched but couldnt find it though....

Actually, my EDD was 6th Sep. It's just that my order reached India on the 19th and I ask how long it would take. The CSR told me that it would take 4-5 days. Well, after 10 days, I just could not stand it and started bugging him. So he transferred me to Customer Care and thats where they took hold of my case. By this time, it was starting of Sep.

Anyway, it didn't matter what my EDD was, what mattered was that my laptop was in customs for more than 15 days.
I got it on the 9th, not bad considering 6th was the EDD. But usually, it comes much earlier. Its just that during my time, the customs issues were there.

 

Well, I recieved my laptop on Tuesday evening! It is so ****ing beautiful! On top of it, I am getting two 2 GB RAM sticks and a carry case for free, as the compensation. I asked for the tracking number of FedEx, and they told me my two modules will be taken back, and two 2 GB modules will be installed, thus making my memory 4 GB! It was worth it. Every second of wait. The first thing I did was formatting. I removed MediaDirect as well, what loads of bull****. Now Vista runs so smooth! Now, I'm going ape**** on the services, and tweaks etc. I want my machine to be perfect when I get a 4 GB RAM upgrade. 17" LCD rocks man! It sucks Vista 32 bit doesn't take all 4 GB of RAM. But I'm not complaining! Rs 21,000 worth RAM, and a bag worth 3,000 for free! OMG DELL I love you, I take back everything I said!

I received the RAM and bag package this morning! I am just about to install the ram modules. The bag is very good as well, my 1720 fits perfectly.

Oh man, just format everything, reinstall Vista from scratch (with AHCI and Turbo Cache enabled), have a 256 MB graphics card with 4 GB RAM on a 17" LCD, you have the best machine n the world!

The only bottle neck is the processor. It is only 1.5 GHz C2D, and 32 bit as well (hence does not take full 4 GB of RAM). But guess who's birthday is coming this December?

I will post the pictures of the RAM upgrade package (2x2048) in 1 or 2 days for those don't believe me.


Also, I don't have to send the 2x1024 RAM that came with my notebook back as well. What do I do with it?

 

Well you can sell it online on ebay I guess for a good rate ?

 

I don't have a CC, so I don't know how to sell on eBay. But damn, 4 GB RAM! It even rhymes too!

I think what he meant by 32-bits is that the OS was 32-bit

 

Yeah, no 32bit OS can take advantage of the full 4GB ram. I think they use 3584MB or something.

 

The actual amount of RAM detected by the OS is dependent on the amount of free address lines that can be used to decode the memory.... Always the address lines are first allocated for decoding the memory related to the internal PCI devices and stuff, Graphics memory and finally only the main memory.....

So it usually comes to something around 3 GB or so.... Also higher the Graphics memory, the lesser the main memory you will be having with 4 GB of RAM....

Actually, after allocating the upper level memory for system devices, the exact number left for actual usage is 3582MB. I am running 4GB on 2 systems and thats my observation. Your observation may vary, specially if you have a shared graphics card.

 

Hmm I just did a google search on 3582MB and found out a lot of results... I guess you may be right here.... It may be that all the motherboards usually dedicated a fixed number of address lines for their purpose (excluding the graphics memory)....

 

Oh my God! My order is still in WIP! And I am going crazy. How are they going to deliver me on 4th? URRRRGhhh.... Is there any Dell India order hotline, or do i call the same CSR?

 

bs. dell revised my edd to 8/10. yesterday they said they have no clue about my order. i kinda think my money is not in safe hands!

 

I bet they will soon change my EDD too soon since it has been in shipping stage for around 4 days and october 4th is the coming week Thursday

 

they did not even have the courtesy to drop in a mail saying EDD has changed!
and I believe this is just a make belief, after I got firm with them yesterday! how can you not have a clue one day and have tons of information the next?

 

Wow today prices have even been slashed down drastically on DELL India... For the 1520 config in my sig which had costed me 66k bucks now it costs just 62k bucks that too with the T7250 instead of the T7100 (T7100 is out of stock I guess and Intel's production of the T7100 has also stopped I believe).... Aint that cool... I didnt check other laptop models but a similar baseline price cut would be seen there too....

So I guess the EDD of October 4th is somewhat accurate.... Really good job DELL..... So how do I see - with which courier service the package will be delivered to my house and also any transaction id or something like that to track for the package ?

 

ordered a vostro 1400 on 19th sep.
Build ---- 21th sep.
Ship ---- 22nd sep.

no news after that.EDD was showing as 1st oct which was yesterday.now it sez mail the customer service dept. to find out.WTF is on?? anyone else who ordered a vostro 1400? how long for delivery time??

Ash: Thats great Congrats...I think you should be getting your machine soon. As for tracking, I don't think you can track it, as you're not given a number. But if you call them up, they might be able to track it. Best you're going to get are vague estimates. Just relax. It'll come in a day or 2.

 

Hmm thats okay I guess.... Actually me and my mom are living in different locations and I've given my mom's house address.... And she usually leaves to work at 10 and comes home only by 6.... And no one else will be in the house.... So thought it would be nice if I knew through which courier service they had dispatched the package.... Anyway we've told the others in the appartment and so they should be able to retain the package if my mom is not at home....

Hmm I think you can start bargaining with them after it has crossed your initial EDD.... Customs clearance is a lot luck dependant if you ask me..... For some ppl it is done very soon (within a week) and for some others it takes 2 - 3 weeks as well....

For the 62k config it would have costed me just 52k thats why worry... Anyway I need this laptop before the middle of October and so I couldnt have waited anyway...

 

i feel like tearing the dell reps apart. some guy i called on Monday said sm1 will give me a call only on next Monday! whats the point of ordering early when even if you order after a week you get it on the same day. whats more, you get a better deal if you wait!

 

and to think i did not take the colour option anticipating it will dleay me further!

 

Hmm the peak sales hit for these Inspirons have already crossed and sales are now not so high as it used to be a month ago.... So all our orders should get processed soon....

 

Hmmm wish I had found this forum earlier as I most likely would not have purchased my notebook from them. I ordered XPS1730 on 27th Sept and paid with CC. It was in manufacturing plant on the 28th. My EDD was today 5th Oct. Yeah right, when I checked today it is still in manufacturing and my EDD is now the 16th Oct. I have emailed my Dell rep but still have not received a reply.

 

you probably wouldn't. the rep is just a sales guy who is just happy to collect the cash from you and then 'tata, bbye'. call them up, if you really want clarifications.
heck, the reps dont even answer your pre sales querries on emails. they would call you and clarify, but never anything in writing! thats my experience.

 

Just now the logistics service called.... My package has reached my home city but since my mom will come back home after 6 only, she has asked him to deliver it after that.... But anyway I got to wait for another 2 weeks before I will be able to see the laptop since that is when I ll be going there

And btw today on the order Status Page the EDD got changed to 12/10... Till yesterday it was 4/10... I guess all thess EDDs displayed do not matter much....

And considering it again my package will be arriving 1 day after the first EDD given to me which is not bad at all...

 

my EDD is now 29/10! i cant even freakin believe it. The dell guy said Tuesday-positively. I think I am now going to give them a piece of my mind!

 

@Mask I think you better try contacting the sales department regularly and budge them.... Keep track of whom you are talking to and that number they give for each convo.... You can very well start budging them to give extra goodies since they are delaying your order very much....

i dont know, i have never been good at asking for stuffs. let them just give me the stuff on time. some guy again re-iterated today that mine has cleared customs, and i will get it on monday/tuesday.

 

today my edd's showing as 23rd oct ...calld them...now they'r sending an optical mouse, 2.1 speakers and a 2 gb pen drive...asked for a friggin processor upgrade...they said they dont do that....anyone got a free mouse??? im sure it sucks....
