I think their system might be down. I jumped on this way earlier on a different school with a similar discount and I still havent recieved my confirmation.

I don't see why they wouldn't go through. I mean, you figure thousands of people at Drake are seeing this same offer and they must be gobbling it up; a few of us isn't going to set off any red flags. It's not like the page isn't out there to begin with, either. Nothing wrong with what we're doing.
-
when it asked you for a company name or organization did you guys put none or did you put in Drake university?
-
I'm sure there are forum lurkers and other websites doing the exact same thing. So hopefully tremonti22 is right, that we dont set off any red flags. -
The more and more I think about it, it doesn't seem like such a good idea. The fact that different universities have different deals says something about the actual universities involvement. Dell will probably not honor the prospective student aspect of the deal. I'm not going to try doing this. I'd rather wait a little while to see if my own University updates its page with the new machine and get it legit with no chance at any shadiness.
When they see the abundance of Drake University prospective students orders', they will act on it. -
lol you'd think Dell would have found out about this by now...
-
Another thing that is weird is that I am not being charged tax. Did you people that ordered through drake get charged tax?
-
I guess I'm pretty lucky in that if the Drake thing doesn't work for me, I can get almost as good a deal (actually same price, just worse CPU) from the U of Washington. And I won't be doing anything wrong, since I actually attend it.
I remember someone else using this deal not paying tax. Maybe Dell is giving Univ students a tax break? Awesome if they did! -
how fast do people usually get their order number from dell after the order is placed? The acknowledgement took like 20 minutes and then I havent recieved the confirmation since like 400 central this afternoon.
-
Heh. Maybe Dell doesn't have any stores in Iowa
Edit: oh but that's not the address *smack* -
-
I placed an order with drake and was charged tax base on shipping address
-
-
I don't mean this to be rude in any sort of way or form, but what is up with this whole prospective student thing. It's not like there was any requirement to prove we're Drake students or moreover prospective Drake students. If anything, they wont cancel it because we're not Drake students but because they meant to sell more m1330s at a discounted price than they would have liked. Like Sirius said before, you can get to the same deals via www.dell.com/drake. He made a valid point, that the website is open for anyone, no @drake.edu's needed. So I mean regardless whether we're Drake university students or not, they put it on the net.
Best Buy placed the wrong price of this Sony Bravia TV one night, discounted by half its original cost and my friend totally scooped up on that, and they honored it. But of course they fixed the pricing the next morning. Whereas dell can just go screw you and cancel at anytime. -
-
-
Dell gave you a dollar. Congrats.
-
-
I worked for the Dell kiosk last semester, and if my memory serves me correct, the only reason that 36 dollar shipping fee is there is because it comes with a printer.
So I'm wondering if we call in and cancel the printer, would they also refund us the 36 bucks. Because notebooks esp at this price should be free shipping and I dont remember it any other way. Even when customers ordered a notebook and spare ink or something, it charged S&H, not for the notebook, but for the ink. -
-
Good point.
To Vivek and Sirius_GTO, I love you guys!
I'll definitely have to order this Dell XPS M1330 instead!
This is a once in a lifetime chance and I doubt we'll see this again. -
It's no cheaper for my E1420
-
Well I did it, we'll see what happens. You guys post up if and when you get your order numbers. Ill let you know if I see anything.
-
Do you know if it's possible to order on a university site if you live abroad? I would like to order the M1330 to be delivered to a US address but using an international credit card?
-
I really, REALLY need to stop using my credit card past a certain hour of night. I always end up getting excited by threads like this, and errm... there goes $1500, not to mention the fact that once the laptop gets here, I'm going to have 7gb of PC2-5300, 3 of which I can't even use. I just hope I don't regret this move when I wake up.

-
do xps have the partition on the hard drive to reformat like the inspirons do?
-
Will the M1330 be fine for a desktop replacement?
Also: what's the big difference between TrueLife and LED? Is it worth the $135 upgrade? -
The LED screen is thinner, brighter, and consumes less power. There are only two down sides: the camera goes down to VGA (its thinner) and price. I would definitely go for it.
-
Can you order at drake's from Canada? With the tax and across the boarder prices, I think it still will be cheaper.
-
As another ethical note..
Everyone is assuming it's Dell that eats the cost of the Academic deals..
It might be the schools (and/or local governments) that are subsidizing the computers.
Just, to throw a monkey wrench in your moral compass..
(by the way, to an earlier comment, i just wanted to note.. Morals are universally relative, but 'absolute' within the context an individual's own morality.. Ethics, on the other hand, are not ever relative. They are based on an internally consistent logical system-- if there is no internal consistency in those ethical guidelines, then it's not an ethical but moral structure. fyi. /geek/) -
looks like Drake is also missing the gigabit ethernet or am I missing something?
-
-
And yes, I did have my days confused. I ordered it yesterday EARLY morning before I went to bed (6AM), then went to bed, and woke up (same day) but it felt like the day before... if that makes any sense. So basically I thought it was two days ago, when it wasn't.
My order status is confirmed, and in production.
Best of luck guys. -
And I had to pay $75 in taxes (IL) _ OUCH -
we are waiting...
-
The University of Michigan site lists all of the options except the fingerprint reader. Does anyone know if I can call in and have them add this feature for me. I mean, it's like a $25 part.
-
As for the printer, I wish I had added the laser one for mere $8....:-;
-
When you actually purchase the computer it doesn't say anything about Drake university, so I dont think they are losing any money over it. I doubt they would lose money for PROSPECTIVE students any way.
-
Also, Dell is in big trouble as they are losing their hold on the notebook sector so I would think this can only help their cause...they might lose some money but they will see an increase in # of laptops sold plus others who see our laptops will probably want to order thus it's like free advertising for them
-
does anyone know if a dell gift card can be applied to these orders?
-
-
It has been about 12 hours since I received my order acknowledgment, but no order confirmation yet. Fairly suspicious.
Has anybody receive an order confirmation? -
Nope not yet, i ordered around 11PMCST
-
I didn't see the 100/1000 baseT Gigabit Ethernet or Dual Layer in the Drake Configuration. Can anyone verify?
-
This is dead. They took away all the new systems.
-
yea they definetley took it down, now we wait and see if our orders get canceled...
-
That would SUCK!!!!
-
Mine has yet to be confirmed also. I ordered mine around 11:00 also.
