M1330 - Dell Recommended for University Discount

Wow, I bet you only cross on crosswalks too. Dell lives on having obscure promotions and different prices every day at every url or CSR. There have been much better grey area deals at Dell, and guess what, they're still in business and still offering crazy deals.

 

Jaywalking is a traffic violation, and has in the past caused car accidents or deaths.

With that aside, there is a reason why that offer is listed under Drake University (maybe some other universities, as well) but not under all colleges. Do you think it is ethical for someone to buy cheap laptops sold at marginal prices intended for developing nations, but instead lying about being a qualified buyer and then turning them around and selling them to US consumers for 200% profit? I don't think so.

 

So I'm keeping my M1210.

They just gave me a $200 coupon

 

It's all overpriced anyways.

 

That may be, but that does not give you the moral, ethical and legal justification to be a Stander.

So has anyone who placed an order last night and got only the acknowledgment email called dell and have them confirm the order at the price you ordered it at? Has anyone called and had it canceled on them? I'm debating whether to wait another day to see if they confirm it tonight (as per the guy who talked to the Indian rep who said they should have confirmation emails out shortly) or call them now.

Fuzion, I have am M1210 I was planning to return too.. haha! I wonder if I should just get a coupon like you did instead of returning it and getting the M1330.

For the M1330, I ordered it yesterday and just got the acknowledgment. Should I wait for the confirmation or just call them?

I called Dell. I'm on the phone with them right now. They said my order didn't go through. I ordered my XPS m1330 from the Drake site about 7PM last night. The guy is really helpful and since I saved the order as an equote as well they were able to find it. But i'm being transferred to customer care to "find my order" because it was the dreaded Drake order -- ::awaits::

Fortunately the guy I talked to was from OK City and not India, and he said to email him if Customer Care couldnt help.

 

FusionZO6 does that coupon apply to anything Dell sells and how did you manage to get them to give you one because I recently ordered a M1210 and am pissed that the m1330 is the stuff

 

I've been transferred 3 times on Dell's customer service system, how great.

 

since i called, i got a confirmation number immediately - if you call it will automatically give you a confirmation/order number

on a side note - drake you can no longer get, but you can for florida BUT florida cannot give you accidental damage and CANNOT add it later even if you are not located in the state (i called customer service to confirm that) - since it was a florida package.

and even when i called back - once again was i never asked my college email, wasn't even asked an email address at all really. until i said i want the order confirmation emailed to me and then gave a yahoo email.

 

Alulabear, what do you mean you saved it as an e-quote. I ordered it and got an acknowledgment email but I didn't save an e-quote I dont think? Should I call in now or wait? I ordered last night also.

 

Well, I ordered it, put it on my Dell Credit Card (DPS) and in addition saved one as an E-quote

 

Well, I think I was transferred about 6 times. The last gentleman I spoke with knew about the Drake orders. He said i was the 5th person he spoke to from Drake. He said he didn't know what was up with it. He said give it a week. Since it wont ship out for another week or more, I still have a chance to change the order. I called in basically to add Accidental, change the 9 cell to a 6 cell, and perhaps upgrade to a new processor.

So the wait continues...

Meanwhile my 1420 is in production. Eh, I might end up with 2 new laptops. But now with all this m1330 hype, I have my heart set on that little piece of delight.

So called Dell and put together the same system I ordered last night, a lot more money now to say the least. The Drake deal is gone now that you can't lead them to the site to prove it, unless you have an e-quote. Not sure what will happen with the orders placed online but my guess is they will get cancled. You can still the the Florida deal because its on the website but it is more expensive and not as good. I think im just gonna take the D630 I got for $778 and be happy.

 

Mentioned the LCD viewing angle issue and how I was upset that I purchased a $125 graphics card and did not get acceptable viewing angles.

They originally offered $60 credit + $100 coupon. I went with $200 coupon...

That brings my total for my decked out M1210 to $763 to my door...

Can't beat that. We are getting near the $750 back in the 700m days.

 

Damn, my school has some solid discounts on xps and inspirons, but our latitudes are MORE than just going through small business lol.

I caught the tail end of this deal, saw it on slickdeals. I really mean the tail end .... They had already taken this off the website for a good amount of time, but i had it my cart from earlier in the day. And i was just browsing ... didnt know how good a deal this was at the time. And luckily I forgot to close the cart window. Decided to give it a whirl and checkout ...

I listed myself as a drake professor (lol) in 2 different areas of the checkout process. My acknowledgment and confirmation emails arrived immediately. I also called and canceled the printer with no problems.

What do you guys think about a 9 cell vs a 6 cell...is the extra battery life worth it sticking out.

And does anyone know if the screen can bend much more than 90 degrees backwards; from all the video I have seen of it, it looks like it has the same problem as the macbook pros; and this problem would be worse with the angle the 9 cell battery creates.

Just dont get caught with a fake edu. address. You can be black-list or worse penalize for fraud. Sometimes, lying can have dire consequences. Well,chances are you wont be caught. But once you do, its not going to be pretty.

 

They make money of these students deals.. and then on top of that they want other to pay 600 dollars more ?

out of curiousity how long do you have to cancel an order? I think i will go ahead and order a second one to see if i can get the confirmation and all.

 

I put in my 2nd order around 8:30PM EST and recieved acknowledgement, but no confirmation yet and now its almost 11:55PM EST ... GRrrrr!

 

I was told by a friend who works at a kiosk that they can cancel up until they ship your item. Once it's shipped, it's out of their hands.

 

That's what I've read. If you cancel it before they ship I think they take it apart and just use the parts. If you return it after they ship but unopened it goes on the outlet as Previously Sold New.

But lots of times Dell overestimates shipping times ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=134628) so you shouldn't wait until your estimated shipping date is near before you cancel...

 

Precisely. I was also told that the estimated ship date is the last day they can ship it, so for most systems it will ship prior to that. For instance, systems under Dell Home Office or the Dell Direct Store. But my friend mentioned that for new products the Estimated Ship Date is pretty accurate.

 

What all did you use to get your M1210. I am going to have to reorder mine it looks like. But im trying to save as much as possible.

i ordered through my real university 100 dollars more than the florida and got an immediate confirmation... I still holding on to the florida one just to see if i can get it confirmed

 

I just placed an order online, and i immediately received confirmation, plus it says the status is: in production.

Now how long should i wait before i call and ask them to remove the printer and the 3yr care thing from my order? Can that wait for tomorrow morning?

Also i got charged tax and shipping. How did some of you get out of that?
