Did anyone just get really tired after finding *not much* except the wait continues for the Mini I????
That is my wish...*clicks heels 3 times* that the Mini I, actually does come out by 9/1, and to have it ordered by 9/1....Cmon Mr. Dell! -
do not give up! there is hope!
http://arstechnica.com/journals/har...ell-to-announce-subnotebook-in-delhi-tomorrow
Dell has been rumored to planning a release of a subnotebook or netbook for a long time now, and a new rumor may be right on the money. Vnunet claims a secret Indian source is telling Indian print media that Michael Dell will reveal a new Eee competitor at an event in Delhi tomorrow. -
Dell E cious

-
*crosses fingers* (again.....
-
I would definately like to know what time the event is... or if anyone learns of any news if they would post on here... i'm sitting at work pressing refresh on 5 different pages while co workers are giving me dirty looks...
-
-
I'll keep my eyes out and see what I can find.
In the mean time, you can check out this Dell-hosted blog about the E:
http://yourblog.direct2dell.com/2008/05/28/something-from-dell-at-d6/ -
it doesn't seem to be being broadcast on the net and I don't see any mention of a time.. I guess best case scenario it just pops up on dell's web site and someone reports it
-
So, hey guys...I'm thinking..the first person to *hear or find out anything*, any potential new or updates.....,
Report it here in this thread, per usual..That way we can all learn *the latest and the greatest*And let our minds *wander* even more

looks like they only discussed the latitudes and no netbooks... *cries himself to sleep... -

I guess now we wait til October when the 10" is supposed to come out. also the lenovo netbook comes out in october too
-
There's a good story up on lilputing about this. I think the only thing that wasn't mentioned is all the Dell diehards that having been waiting (ie, everyone here) that have been turned off to Dell by this.
http://www.liliputing.com/2008/08/why-the-dell-inspiron-mini-matters.html -
Between this and them not having any consumer level notebooks with Centrino 2, I am started to get annoyed with Dell. Just release the stuff, then it will be all alright.
-
What is so hard about discussing the notebooks that should, and need to be released??? The ones that us consumers use more on a daily basis?
-
There's no way Dell (the company, not the person) doesn't hear all of this negative feedback regarding the E. Hell, at this point, if the machine won't be ready until September or so, just tell us so we as consumers can make some decisions whether we want to wait it out or not.
-
I don't know if Dell is going to allow customization like the liliputing article hopes.
I always thought one of the reasons netbooks were low cost was because they sold in fixed configurations and could be mass produced. Just build a bunch and ship. If they allow configurations then it's going to probably cost Dell more.
I do hope it's upgradeable so that you can change the RAM and HD if you want. -
The SSD in the Dell E is 99.999% soldered on to save space. I really doubt they are customizable either; you may just be able to order accessories. The leaked documents showed only three models, and if Dell ever gets around to releasing them, those will be the only configurations available. The Dell E Slim will have a regular hard drive, so that should be able to be swapped out by the consumer, but I still would doubt they offer customization on that either.
-
I'm pretty disappointed with no mention of the Dell E! My fiancee and I were both going to buy one; won't want to wait if they keep so tight-lipped about it.
-
Yeah, I think we are all *disappointed*...Don't quite know whats going on..it surely is a waiting game....
And, the longer that Dell prolong's the release...it give consumers *other brand options*
Now is the *prime time* for Dell to release the Mini I
I'm still hanging on....for a bit -
Definitely...not only is Dell behind almost every other major brand, they won't release any dates, so waiting for it is not an option for a lot of people. I guess the price is still unbeatable at least. I'll wait lol.

Cmon Dell!

According to umpcportal.com the dell inspiron mini has been renamed to Inspiron 910:
http://www.umpcportal.com/2008/08/report-brazil-dell-e-becomes-dell-inspiron-910/
the link refers to a brazillian site which states that the netbook will be released on August 22... whether that is August of this year or next... that depends on what dell does...
Meanwhile alot of people have been posting negative comments criticizing Dell's hush hush state on Dell's blog site... if you want to do the same:
http://yourblog.direct2dell.com/2008/05/28/something-from-dell-at-d6/
Lastly to leave an even more valued input on dell:
http://communitypulse.direct2dell.com/category/topics/inspiron-mini?#content
Oh and one really cool neat feature according to the brazillian site... The netbook supports a slot for a sim card enabling you to use your netbook as a wireless 3G device!!! that means you can pop in a sim card and activate a plan for a data only plan and not have to use an external usb drive for internet! -
Hmm another Brazilian website was first to see the production of the Minis too. As for the name, are they deliberately trying to copy the Eee PC now? Thanks for the links, hopefully next Friday will be the lucky day.
Also a choice of XP or Ubuntu 8.04. Nice. -
Cin -
no problem... has anyone else heard any more news yet? or is this a waiting game till 22nd till when we are sorely disappointed and uncover another rumored release date?
-
Not much else we can do but wait at this point. It is close to another rumored released date, August 24th, for the M1340.
-
So shall we say anytime between 8/22 and 9/1????

People. Let me be up front. I’m not a Dell fan. In fact, I have a very low opinion of them. I think they have been a corrupt company with 2nd rate products. HOWEVER, I would have been right there with you to give them a chance to “convert” me with this subnotebook.
In any case, maybe that makes me the person to say this:
First, Dell has no real obligation to tell us when it is releasing the product, particularly when they have never actually announced it. Having said that, they know the rumours better than anybody and if it’s never coming out, they should quietly end the expectations. But they are not obligated to tell anybody, NOW having said that, this is a special time of year: back to school. A huge buying segment needs the product an/or info about the product and they need it NOW. They can’t wait. It’s not due to “impatience”, they have a deadline. Dell knows this also and Dell WANTED to sell them this notebook.(that’s why they were aiming for August)
There are 3 possibilites:
1.They have no respect/sympathy for waiting customers. They simply say, you’ll know when we release it. Could be the 22nd, could be the Sept 4, could be Sept 28, could be Nov 11. That’s your problem. Now, this is actually not likely because they are already missing out on back to school sales which they really wanted. Even if they release it next week, they’ve already lost sales/money.
2.They don’t actually know when they can get it out. Even at this late stage, something is screwed up and they haven’t even been able to even establish a date when it will be rectified. This simply means they’ve blown it and don’t have their act together. Not reassuring at all.
3.They KNOW, but it’s bad news and they don’t want to tell anyone. Now if they said “actually, we missed our deadlines and it won’t be out till October”, many people would respect them. Some might actually wait. Perhaps even suffer through some school work and try to work in the laptop later. Lenova told everyone they won’t be ready until October. It’s honorable. On the other hand, if you don’t announce, while you’ll still lose some back to school sales, maybe you can string some people along, especially LOYAL FANS. Oh…I heard maybe next week….maybe beginning of Sept….maybe at the stroke of midnight….. In fact, if you string them along long enough, it will delay other purchases….oh, now it’s too late for the beginning of school….oh…well hopefully I can get along with it this month, it’s only the beginning….. they will still be netbookless by the time you release and while they might be a bit peeved, well, now it’s there, so they’ll buy one. As you can see, some even admit it “I don’t care when it is, I’ll buy it when they give it to me”.
I think this third option is the most likely, but even if it is #1 or #2, I’m out. They can release tomorrow, I’m not buying it out of principle and will procede with another brand. Tell them what you think with your money. I hope none of you suffer to much more and I hope those who can wait, are eventually satisfied! -
yeah i agree with u there. Dells been dissapointing me hardcore. First i was looking at the XPS m1330 and the xps m1530, ohh **** over heating issues. Then i waited for the xps m1340 and m1640, ohh **** its not coming out and dells gonna ditch xps maybe. Now i was waiting for this dell inspiron 910, ohh **** theyve missed the date and its only classified as a rumor.
sorry didnt know that dmn was a bad word -
There are really two types of consumers, needers and wanters (I realize these aren't actual words). The problem is that people should not base their purchasing decisions around rumors if they are in need of products. However, if you are like me you can sit back and enjoy or get thoroughly frustrated by the rumors since there is no immediate need for said products, you just want something new and shiny. I don't need the Mini nor do I need a new notebook that I just bought, but I want them. However, if you are in need then there are currently products in the market, whether they are Dell or not, that can fulfill your needs. Dell cannot fulfill everyone's wants and especially not in a time frame that will accommodate everyone, so they just attempt to fulfill the needs of most consumers overall and they do a very good job with this. And realize that there has never been a date set by Dell for any new products; there have just been guesses.
So, unless you are in dire need of a new notebook or netbook, sit back and enjoy or get pissed off with the rumors like the rest of us. -
i also would like to add, that dell has been launching new products and particularly notebooks left and right. lets not forget in the past couple months they released the Studio line, new lattitudes, E-lattitudes, 13 inch notebook at walmart and soon the 10 inch one.
Obviously the Inspiron 910 is at the end of their agenda. Dell are NOT the people to blame for the delay, its the people who released the rumor and got all of us hyped up about it.
If Dell officially told us about their new inspiron 910 and kept on delaying their promised date thats when we can bash them.
I believe 95% of the people who are eagerly and frustratingly waiting for the 910 are wanters and not needers, we all have our laptops and its not like we NEED the 8.9 inch netbook or we will lose buisness/fail school or make any major happening in our lives if we dont get it NOW.
Who doesnt like new tiny shiny laptops? the idea of an affordable 8.9 inch laptop is fascinating, and i think thats why we are acting like little children waiting impatiently for their "promised" barbie/Tyco RC car.
Dell never made any promise to us. therefor, i think i can still trust them. -
-
You know what? I am going to continue to wait. Because I like the Dell's, and I like the *sleek and sexy* red look of the Mini I.
I will just have to practice being *patient* some more...and sometimes the wait can be the best part, as you learn more about what you want!

Like Levon says Dell has been releasing a lot of new models. Sure, we in notebookforums are waiting for the latest and greatest things to come out but the average consumer probably has no idea what the Dell E/Mini Inpiron/Dell 910 is.
The Dell 13" Inspiron looks to be the one they are touting as a back to school laptop. That is at Walmart now and will be on Dell's site at the end of this month.
I'm sure Dell's marketing or product release manager or who whoever decides on when to release products has everything planned out. That's business. I'd assume they don't feel it's ready to be released yet.
That being said... I need and want more info! Hehe. -
My thoughts exactly. -
That being said... I need and want more info! Hehe.
Hey, like what you said..and really like the last sentence
And, as said..I will wait. As, I *both want and need* the Mini I!
When, it *roll's out*, it will be a good thing

I've been following this for the past month, and I just cant wait for the 12" portable! I bought the inspiron 1420 last summer and it is definitely not for classroom use. Lugging it around in my backpack for psych class seriously was so inconvenient that I resorted to taking notes by hand after three days. When I fly back home on breaks, taking the charger was even extra hassle. As a university student (one of the target consumers), I think the 8.9" is going to be too small to do wordprocessing / browsing so 12" all the way.
I know I didnt max out the specs of my inspiron, but I seriously have not done anything in it that I think needed me to upgrade to $1300 worth of stuff. Except for the occasional once a month gaming (Warcraft III DOTA cuz my roommates urged me too), all I did the whole year was surf, type, and watch youtube videos.
I'm thinking of actually selling my inspiron 1420 and replace it with the Dell E Slim as my prime computer. Do you guys think it's a good idea? I'm not going to be playing any games. I will install itunes though to sync with my phone.
Other than that, its just gonna be surfing, typing, and youtubing again.
Also, I read somewhere that the new netbooks won't have an ethernet port? THAT IS RIDICULOUS. I hope that is not true because believe it or not, most college dorm rooms do not have wifi. They still rely on ethernet. My school is on the process of wifi-ing our entire dorm system, and it wont be done until I graduate. The floor lounge, cafe, and actual campus does have wifi, but not inside the rooms. -
Yes, we are all waiting ever-so-patiently!I think you are making a good choice waiting for the 12" portable....*sigh* I cannot wait for the arrival, it's gonna be great when finally released!...
If you are looking for school use, portabllity = awesome~!
What color are you thinking? I'm getting the red to match my 1530....soo *shiny and sexy*
Aaah wifi, there are still areas near where I work, that don't have it 100% complete, so understand!
Are going to sell you 1420 right away? Or, wait for the Mini I to be released?
If you do that...than you can see the final specs...and compare *apples to apples* per se!And, know what you want!
