I talked to a friend who just left Dell in the past few weeks (he was a products manager/liason) and he said that the soonest they'll hit the streets is 09/08/08 unless Dell feels their hand is being pressured and drops it sooner, but he says that Dell isn't quite ready for it to come out yet; they're still in the process of training people on the product.

Well, they could at least do like Lenovo and actually begin to take orders. I actually haven't even received anything about my order from them to let me know when it might be shipped. Last I saw was approaching late October.

To the best of my memory, I don't think Dell has ever offered pre-sales before, they just hype a product and then (eventually) make it live.

Yeah, they don't which really sucks. They must be aware of what is going around the blogosphere and realize they are missing out the longer they keep us at bay.

alot of people are getting upset and angry at dell for the rumors/delayed release date... plus alot of the people that are posting comments about getting so dissappointed that they want to buy an acer or asus... if you really are upset with dell and you need a netbook soon then you should go ahead and buy one...
i think atbnet said it best:
it kinda is just fun waiting for a netbook... i don't NEED it right away but i would like to have it soon... if i needed a netbook i would have bought the asus or msi wind a long time ago...

I don't know... the 8.9 inch acer aspire one with 120gb hard drive, intel atom, and 6 cell battery is looking pretty sweet right now for $350

exactly, this is exciting times for people wanting to buy a netbook. There are so many options out there. It really is not worth the time/effort getting disappointed over a product. If you don't need the netbook now then it's fun watching the new products come out. If you need one now then there are so many nice netbooks out. Afterall, dell could completely re-evaluate the market and decide that now might not be a good time to release their own netbook.

I don't wish to start a new rumor, but.
Last I heard from a reliable source, unless there is a last minute change (who knows?), the 901 will be out late September. 12" model in the middle of October.

It is true that the minis are out today, just not for the public. Did you guys really think Dell is just gonna release them without a proper press conference?

It's getting much better. Asus has begun to price themselves outside of the netbook range which I would consider to be between $300 and $450. Anything above that, you really need to question what exactly you are getting for the price. Acer dropping the price definitely helps out consumers.

Lol. My initial question question about where the price info was in response to this quote here by a previous poster:

"I don't know... the 8.9 inch acer aspire one with 120gb hard drive, intel atom, and 6 cell battery is looking pretty sweet right now for $350".

I don't know how we got into a tangent about the price drop but it still doesn't address THAT particular quote. Again, the price drop still doesn't show any 6 cell battery Acer One at $350 so I'm wondering where said poster might have gotten that info.

    Gotcha.

There's mention on a hot deals site that signing up for broadband @ Best Buy gets you a $100 instant gift thingamajig that we can use on laptops. I REALLY hope Best Buy carries the 6 cell version on Sunday (they only have the 3 cell advertised). That would be an AMAZING deal to get the 6 cell bad boy for $299.

    Hey everyone,

I guess no Dell E (or Inspiron 910) release today huh? =( So what's the next likely release date to target for now? I have a $200 Dell promotional gift card to use so I think this is the netbook I'm most likely getting. :)

what store? and what type was it? I'm starting to lean towards the 6 cell one foe $400 since school starts monday and I want to send in my 1520 for heating issues, but I'd prefer to have a laptop for school int he eman time.

i'm going to go ahead and tell myself that this laptop will come out January 21, 2009... that way if it comes out any earlier i'll be pleasantly surprised rather than being sorely dissappointed about the 9/10 date...

anyways i did manage to get a good look at the acer today (not in real life but specs on the internet)... it seems like a good laptop... a few quick questions:
    1) Where can i find the linux model for $329... everywhere i look is 379
    2) Does linux model come in 6 cell battery?
    3) Is the power adapter the same size (or very similar) to the leaked dell photos which were the size of a phone charger?
    4) Are any other linux models coming out anytime soon for the acer?
    5) Does the Dell look like it will outperform this laptop?
i know this is a dell thread but since i've been on this thread for a while now i know what the users on this thread are looking for in a netbook and i think that we have similar interests... thats why i wanted your opinions on this...

    -Thanks in advance...

I had made a visit to 'Future Shop' which is now owned by Best Buy here in Canada.

apparently, someone else on another forum mentioned that they called DELL today asking about the Inspiron 910 and the CSR informed them the release had been pushed now to Sept 4th.

How the CSR even knows that type of information is another question so not sure how accurate this 9/4 date is....

@Goophy - True that the training site would have the estimated release date. However, who knows what the upper decision makers are thinking/planning. They could be re-considering a release date much different again.. It is coming eventually...

Gonna check out the Asus 901 in the store today... Checked out the Acer Aspire One yesterday and was impressed... These netbooks are such an exciting category...

Today i checked out the acer aspire one... i actually do like it and i really like the color... specs seem comparable if not better than the dell so far (granted nothing official has come out yet)... if the price for the xp is 350 at best buy tommorrow i will be picking it up... if dell comes out before my return policy is over then i will be returning it (as long as the specs beat out acer)... i know i should wait but i dont want to pass on this good deal... with the 120gb hard drive i will probably dual boot to ubuntu remix making it similar to the dell 910... so dell better hurry up!!!

Yes, understand...I have been *perusing the other brands* and still trying to be faithful to the Mini I... ;) :)

If you can get that at the deal you want, along with the specs..that's a good thing ;) :)

I jumped on the Lenovo deal with the 15% off but balked when I saw the correction from Lenovo that it wasn't using GMA x4500 graphics along with the late September ship date. They should be shipping these immediately otherwise there is nothing stopping us from purchasing the myriad of Acers, Eees or HPs.

Most importantly, the dual core Atom will be released in October, making these netwbooks much more usable as primary machines. Even late September/October is too late.

I canceled my IdeaPad S10 order. I think the Acer A1 is a very good option today.

Seriously, a dual core mini notebook would be pretty sick =D. I'm guessing if/when the competition starts releasing dual core mini notebooks in October, we'll have to wait a ridiculous amount of time before Dell releases theirs =P.

I looked at the reviews for the Lenovo, it looked nice...And the Acer..yeah it could be too...But, I am going to hold out for Dell for a bit..and see if there are also any further pricing/spec changes...Once Dell, finally decides to factually release the Mini I. *sigh* :)

I think you will get one for sure ;) :) ...and perhaps it's good that Dell, is taking so long..possibly tweaking here and there to what it's competitors are doing? I dunno...just a thought. But the more adds to the specs, the better ;) :)

Yes, that would be nice :D  ...Yes Dell's release time = ;)
