Great! Can't wait to read the review and see the pics! ;) :)

Nope no news...So, I will look to Dell for the official release when it happens, and check here *Notebook News and Latest Reviews* for the latest and greatest.. ;) :)

Nothing new...I think now is just to wait on Dell for any *official* news, and as above always check the *Notebook News and Latest Reviews* for any impending news ;) :)

I'm still excited about it though! ;) :)

I love Dell, but really, I would like to know why the MiniI stands apart from its competitors? For example, the Lenovo has an ExpressCard slot which is a rarity amongst its inexpensive netbook brethren. So really, why hold out at this point? I feel it is too little too late.

Of course, if the prices undercut the competition then the game begins anew....

I think the main selling point is that $299 entry level price. Asus wanted to be able to sell the original Eee PC at that price, but was never able to obtain it. And since then, they have just completely saturated their netbook selection with higher priced models. Yes, the Lenovo does have some better specs but also starts at $429.

That's so true the $299 entry price is a def. eye catcher ;) :)

The Lenovo does look nice though! ;) :)

ahh... i wanted to write the review... i really did... but i got home late and i start school tomorrow... i'll write it tomorrow after class after i finish setting up my room... sorry for breaking the promise... if you need to know whether this is a good purchase or if i'm having buyers remorse then the answer is i do not regret buying this laptop as of yet... the extended warranty does however make me wary... but thats best buy for you...

Does anyone know what the specs on the $299 entry level model will be? I am wondering how it would compare to the Aspire one that was advertised in the bestbuy ad today.

Well, they did attain it, actually, albeit with a decidedly uninteresting model sporting no frills, the 2G Surf.

Never ending sytem problems are preventing Dell from releasing the line. Don't be surprised if the date sails into october. I'm guessing that if the product is not ready by late September, Dell will do a holiday release [Nov].

On the positive side, the final product might be worth the waiting, so I hear.

Don't take this as "news", I don't want to start any rumors. What I do know, however, is that they really want to get this out by September. Recent competition (the September price drop of the Acers, anyone?) really got them working overtime, and missing their projected deadline might have hurt their sales greatly.

Well, its a wait and see.. and relying on Dell for release information is the a good way to go about things! So a push for September would be nice...

    That's my own opinion! :)

Looks like the starting prices of the Inspiron Mini are going to be $349 for Ubuntu and $389 for XP... and these are just starting prices...

Prices look interesting indeed... by the time you spec out the 16gb SSD, higher capacity battery, bluetooth and 1.3MP camera the price could be around $500-$550 I am guessing... so competitive with the Asus 901 indeed... very interesting times...

Well I wish dell made the specs available and all the upgrades and price points avaialbe so we would know how it compares to the competitors. I was set on getting a dell xps 1530, but then saw the coupons that work with the new 15" Hp's and was looking at those, plus my bestbuy has the gateway 6860 on clearance for 950,(but it is a 17" and just so big). If bestbuy would drop the price on the gateway even more, i might have to go that route and buy either an inspiron mini for portability(cause 17" isn't that portable), but I doubt they would just drop the price, I would most likely have to buy the acer aspire one or something with it to get them to drop the price. /shrug, so many choices, wish this decision was easier.

The XPS 1530 I was looking at was from the EPP deal that is posted in the deals thred. I get the epp discount through my employer plus I already registered and got that 5% discount that stacks. Just not sure if I want to get something with midrange graphics like the 8600 or 9600 or something more powerful like the 8800 gts in the gateway.

on the australian dell website under the home laptops it says
inspiron (3) indicating that there are 3 inspiron laptops however if u go in there is only 2. I wonder if that is just a glitch or maybe the minis are finally coming out!

Thanks for that Cin'. I promise I'll pay attention in future.

Looking at a few netbooks over the weekend has rekindled my interest and I'm hoping Dell will produce something better and better value than the oposition. I hope the delays are due to them getting it right first time; they must be under pressure as other manufacturers take market share.

I saw one of these briefly at my college campus. A Dell rep was showing to a bunch of people. I didn't get to handle it, but from what I could see, it looked like a pretty sleek laptop, and the screen looked quite sharp and bright.

I called Dell tonight to inquiry about the Mini Inspiron and was told they couldn't say anything yet as it's "not quite ready". The sales person gave me her contact information and said to call back around Sept. 4-5 and she would know more. I wonder if that means a release the second week of September?

I wonder many of the netbooks put the shift key to the right of the arrow key?

I would much rather have it to the left and have the arrow key above the right arrow key since I don't use the arrow keys nearly as much as the right shift key.
